I have a G1 that was given to me from a friend. Everything seemed to be working and she said she'd never had any problems with it. Of course, I went right to rooting it and installing a custom ROM. Normal process - nothing unusual and didn't have a single problem through the whole process.
It's currently running SuperCSDIv4 but I've noticed that it refuses to connect to EDGE. It will pick up 3G just fine, but never switches to EDGE, and when told to only use 2G networks, it never picks up a signal. This is killing the battery life, of course. I tried flashing SuperD as well and a stock rooted Donut ROM, but the issue persists.
It's running the most up-to-date OTA G1 radio and latest version of DeathSPL. Like I said, I had no problems rooting the phone.
Could this be a hardware problem or is there something I can do software-wise to remedy this?
I've actually unrooted the phone and returned it back to factory state out of curiosity - still no EDGE. I'm assuming it's some sort of hardware problem. :/
What are you trying to do exactly? Still a little confused on what you are trying to say. Do you have a data plan that you are trying to connect? Or you are just trying to turn down the setting to save battery life because you do not have a data plan?
I've got a data plan. It just absolutely refuses to get EDGE. No problem with 3G, though.
Why? You have 3G that's better than EDGE.
Battery saving purposes. And obviously when I'm in an area that doesn't get 3G service it'd be nice to get EDGE.

Hi,
I've seen several posts about this issue, that all seem to end in limbo. My At&T Tilt initially worked great. I got it on 12/18 and it worked seamlessly from edge to 3G/HSDPA and gave excellent results.
I upgraded to Dutty's rom v6 and it continued to work just fine. I ran bandwidth tests and made voice calls in and out of 3G areas(I don't have 3G at my home area) with the Dutty rom no problems.
Then last week, while traveliing to a friends the phone stopped working for both voice and data. Long story short(see my other post) I had to install a comm manager that allows to disable 3G for the phone to work at all..which it does when forced to edge only. I cannot under any circumstance get 3G to work again, not even voice calling.
At&T says to return the phone or call the mfg. Has anyone who experienced this gotten it resolved? I really don't think it is the rom and suspect there are major network changes going on but don't know.
thanks

may have solved my own problem.
I entered the sim unlock code per the instructions on my att wireless account. It seems to have fixed it, the roaming triangle immediately dissappeared and 3g works when I enter an area with it active. Try it out anyone who is affected and see.

nope dwon again..sorry for the crosspost...no help folks?
Well skratch the idea of the sim unlock fixing it. It worked for a while...it a different 3G area(Worcester MA) but near Boston it still would not access the 3G network. Just guessing in the dark, maybe some sort of network update thats causes this is happening and some areas arent' affected yet. I may return the phone.

anyone have any input???
I've had this problem with my Nexus One for as long as I could remember, but kinda ignored it - thought perhaps a new radio would fix it, or a new ROM...
But no, it still bugs me.
Basically, if the phone is on 'normal' 3G, I cannot receive any data. It just gets no connection. If I have HSDPA, or GPRS or EDGE - it all works fine.
But 3G? Nothing. And its EVERY time.
Travelling on the train every day, HSDPA isn't stable, so it often drops to 3G, but then it drops dead. I have to restrict the phone to 2G if I want to check things reliably.
I've tried every radio from every country from the original to the latest 5.12 leak.. yes, speeds increase, HSDPA engages more often, but as soon as I'm on normal 3G: Dead.
And I've tried all ROMs (original, MCR, Cyanogen, Desire, MIUI) - same.
Any build.prop tweaks I could find... same.
Now, I remember talks about this when the Nexus came out originally - but there doesn't seem to be any threads about it now, so do I just have a faulty Nexus One that I've put up with since Christmas last year?
Or have I missed something blatantly obvious that every else did to fix this problem?
Any help gratefully received
Pardon my grammar and spelling I'm typing from my phone without swype and its annoying. I had a similar problem. When on 3g I'd miss calls texts, etc...I had my boss call in my face and my phone didn't ring. It got so frustrating I turned off 3g for several months. Too make a long story short ....all those 3g problems went away when I 2.2 came out on xda I put a new radio and rom on. I can't tell u if it was the radio, 2.2, or if tmo had simply added new towers or improved signals from tmobile.
I'd call tmo see how your area looks and if there's any new towers.
I've been on 2.2.1, and 2.1, 2.2, and used all the radios that have been released.
All the same.
I'm in the UK and on Orange, and I have spoken, well, tried to speak to my network about it a couple of times, saying the fact that I've had this issue in the past with my HTC Hero, and I've tried every software update, radio, etc, but because the Nexus One isn't an Orange handset they blame that, Android, or the signal in my area. Yet, I can't believe its just 'Android', and it can't be all signal where-ever I go, so perhaps my phone does have a fault? I don't know!!
The common denominator between this and my Hero is the SIM card.. but convincing them the SIM is faulty is nigh impossible. I'm receiving calls and texts on 3G, and get data all the other times, so it can't be... can it?
Argh, as you can see, this is slowly driving me mad..!!!
Yours sound worst than mine. I used to have very reliable 3G data until upto mid October. After that period, there were numerous reports of Orange UK users struggling with data blaming (with high possibility) on merge plan with T-Mobile.
I tried SIM with my Hero and Nokia N82. All 3 phones suffer the same poor 3G connection and in places I spend my time mostly, all struggle to get any form of internet. Few months back on same places, all my mates were impressed by Orange's coverage.
Yesterday, out of nowhere I received a sms from Orange confirming that merged plan went well and customers are to benefit from all cell towers of both network. Couldn't stop smiling then tried to access XDA on N1's browser. Safeguard was ON and access denied. Tried to open few more, all same. Frustrated almost dialed 150 but couple hours later, all started as normal with H signal. No interruptions, no waitings and no error msg. Tested for almost 8 hours. Though still to confirm the reliability.
One more thing I noticed is that before I was using WM's AVS kernel. Almost always once in every 4 attempts, a msg would pop up on error connecting. Changed to SVS kernel and msg still would appear but very very rare. BTW, on latest Nightly.
Coming to end with orange contract and if problem continues, I'm moving to O2.
Try your SIM on other phones to see whether it's the issue with N1.
I might have the same problem. but this just came up 2 nights ago. while connected on data network, all is fine until it drops to 3G, app (opera mini) freezes and you will have to force close. restricted my network to 2G and all was fine. then a while ago i enabled again on 3G and all was fine again.
is this a sign that i may get your same problem soon?
Recently my signal is constantly switching from G, 3G and H (sometimes full bars with no signal icon). I'm at work so not in a new poor reception area. It'll switch even if I move the phone a couple of inches in one direction. Generally getting poor reception tho.
What I'm wondering if whether to speak directly with TMob or whether it's a) atmospheric issues or b) something to do with my Darky ROM flashed modem (BUJP5)
I have a sneaky suspicion TMob won't help if they discover the phones seriously modded.
It's causing me a lot of grief
Thanks in advance for any advice
Well, I guess I'll sort it out myself.
It appears that it might have been a couple of things; Juice Defender seemed to screw up reconnecting to 3G leaving me with full bars but no signal plus the Preferred Network Type was set to Unknown. I've now changed this to GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) and my signal seems to have stabilised (still a lousy strength tho)
Clue to problem board is littered with problems from one rom and thats it
.
Its the rom remove that before trying anything clean wipe and stock install .

It looks like there is an issue with 3G or LTE connectivity. About half of the time internet connection is extremely slow or there is none at all, even though there is 100% reception. It doesn't apply to a particular app but to the whole system. Again, only with 3g/4g, but not on wifi.
It's an international version Nexus 6, bought in the UK, factory unlocked. It's running stock 5.0.1, not even rooted (for now). I've tried reflashing stock and nothing.
Anybody has experienced something similar?

Thanks for that but no, that's not the issue.
I swapped sims with my previous phone, which worked perfectly fine. That same day I experienced the issue with the Nexus 6 so it's not really a network connectivity problem. I may try getting a new SIM card but I suspect that's not it - otherwise there wouldn't be connectivity at all.

if you are on android 5.0 still, then your speeds might be a little slower than before(mine was slightly slower, not extreme). i had the same when i was on stock 5.0. after 5.0.1(ota just started, factory img available to flash as well), you should see a little better data speeds. i did at least, after flashing the radio that came with 5.0.1. if its not about data speeds, then i dont know, sorry.
Just wondering if anyone has noticed this issue. I'm running a Samsung S6 Active (Cricket, but I've also just AT&T).
By default my phone starts with the preferred network as LTE/UMTS auto and I'm unable to get any sort of connection. The only thing my phone will connect with is when I have it set on 'WCDMA Preferred' or 'WCDMA Only'. Any other setting causes my phone to heat up and have battery drain.
When I'm traveling in other areas of the state the phone seems to have no issue connecting via LTE/UMTS. I suspect that the issues is the 'Partner Towers' that my phone is using near my home and work.
Does this make sense? Any ideas why the phone would have issues switching automatically? My wife seems to have no issue with her iPhone. The thing that frustrates me the most is that I routinely lose a connection even when set on WCDMA Preferred (and that I have to specify each time I reboot my phone).
Currently Running 7.0, but seem to have this issue regardless of version.
I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Did the phone ever connect properly, especially before the 7.0 Nougat update? I can get a connection, but the phone keeps flipping between band 30 with a weak signal and bands 2,4 or 17 that have good signals. I updated my S6 Edge to Nougat around the same time and it too is doing the same thing. Other phones I have are fine. It's probably not your phone. I think one of AT&Ts updates caused the problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using Tapatalk
I actually had the same problem before the update (I was hoping the update would fix things). Cricket basically has said they won't support my Unlocked AT&T phone because it is an unlocked phone.
The really strange this is there are areas in town where I can connect just fine (not at my house or work). Any when I'm travelling to other areas of the state (Montana) I don't have this issue.
Update - I tried everything I could think of (even swapped our Sim a couple of times). Signal would randomly drop and phone calls would often be lost after a couple of minutes.
Long story short-I picked up a Moto G4 and it isn't having any of the same issues. Most importantly I reliably receive phone calls when my 8 year old needs to contact me.
