Just wondering if anyone has noticed this issue. I'm running a Samsung S6 Active (Cricket, but I've also just AT&T).
By default my phone starts with the preferred network as LTE/UMTS auto and I'm unable to get any sort of connection. The only thing my phone will connect with is when I have it set on 'WCDMA Preferred' or 'WCDMA Only'. Any other setting causes my phone to heat up and have battery drain.
When I'm traveling in other areas of the state the phone seems to have no issue connecting via LTE/UMTS. I suspect that the issues is the 'Partner Towers' that my phone is using near my home and work.
Does this make sense? Any ideas why the phone would have issues switching automatically? My wife seems to have no issue with her iPhone. The thing that frustrates me the most is that I routinely lose a connection even when set on WCDMA Preferred (and that I have to specify each time I reboot my phone).
Currently Running 7.0, but seem to have this issue regardless of version.
I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Did the phone ever connect properly, especially before the 7.0 Nougat update? I can get a connection, but the phone keeps flipping between band 30 with a weak signal and bands 2,4 or 17 that have good signals. I updated my S6 Edge to Nougat around the same time and it too is doing the same thing. Other phones I have are fine. It's probably not your phone. I think one of AT&Ts updates caused the problem.

I actually had the same problem before the update (I was hoping the update would fix things). Cricket basically has said they won't support my Unlocked AT&T phone because it is an unlocked phone.
The really strange this is there are areas in town where I can connect just fine (not at my house or work). Any when I'm travelling to other areas of the state (Montana) I don't have this issue.
Update - I tried everything I could think of (even swapped our Sim a couple of times). Signal would randomly drop and phone calls would often be lost after a couple of minutes.
Long story short-I picked up a Moto G4 and it isn't having any of the same issues. Most importantly I reliably receive phone calls when my 8 year old needs to contact me.

Once I set my network type as Auto, the phone cannot access to 3G and cannot dial out... Help...
If I set my network type as GSM, phone will run as usual but without 3G ...
Do you have a 3G sim card?
Of course.
This happened to my phone too and I'm afraid to say it was terminal for 3G. Symptoms were: good reception indicated on screen but only about 1 in 10 calls in or out went through, otherwise just three pips as if out of range. GSM fine every time. Neither a soft or hard reset worked and I had to have the phone replaced. Definitely a hardware problem in my case.
I think that I might have killed my 3G the night before I realised it was broken: driving along using tomtom, battery ran out, used a non HTC car charger that was capable of only about 0.8A or maybe 1A. Wasn't delivering enough juice to keep the phone alive with tomtom running so turned off wifi, phone and data.
Sorry to tell you this sorry tale, there are only a few reports of Kaisers losing 3G so I don't think its a common problem, but other folk have reported this too.
I am currently having the same issue. I cannot make or receive calls when in 3G. Everything worked fine until about a week ago. When GSM only the phone works without issue. Any suggestions or is this a simple replace the phone since it is still in the first year.
thanks
bwqipzbpd, Sarin did you do anything out of the ordinary lately with your handset, charge with a non Kaiser charger or play with the connection settings?
Nothing out of the ordinary. It started slowly. At first i would just notice that sometimes the phone would not ringand show no missed calls but i would have a voicemail message. At that time I was still able to make calls without issue. Now the phone is useless as a phone while the signal is 3G.
I may change the setting of connection. But I forgot what I edited....

no fix i'm afraid...you have to swap the phone or send in for repair

I'm not rooted, and have stock ROM. It's a SIM-Free HTC One. Connected to EE network in UK.
I've got a fairly new issue that I just noticed in the last week. My HTC One is my second phone so I don't use it as much, but I'm at a point where I want to get rid of it due to the following issues:
I can't make calls, it would sometimes connect but i can't hear anything. This doesn't seem to be a network issue as a user with an iPhone5 seems unaffected.
I can connect to my 5Ghz WiFi network, but not the 2.4Ghz one, it just saves the password but won't connect. I've also noticed if i disconnect from the 5Ghz network, restart phone, i can make calls and hear the other side.
Using Data network, it doesn't seem to want to load anything, it shows 5 bars HSDPA and either goes incredibly slowly or just doesn't load at all.
General performance issues, everything would become incredibly slow, stuttery and incredibly annoying to use. yesterday the device crashed and restarted.
Any ideas what I should do? Try a full reset (ugh...) or is the device faulty in some way and I should contact HTC Support?
go to the dialer and type
*#*#4636#*#*
choose phone info, scroll down to the only dropdown box and select the correct setting for your provider ( wcdma preferred if you don't have a 4G contract)
and then back button about 4 times and try it again
It seems to be the way it should be: GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto. I was in France a week ago and it had serious issues roaming and data roaming, i had to change it to GSM/WCDMA auto or WCDMA only to make it work. and now back in UK, i set it to the same setting it used to be before I left.
On a side note, I have realised that EE is having data network issues in my area. I tried the SIM in another Galaxy S3 and it had difficulties loading websites, but, it COULD make calls without problems.
Also, no crashes as of today on the One, I still can't connect to my 2.4Ghz wifi router. Could the fact that I was using 5Ghz somehow messed something up inside the One?
I've been having this really annoying issue where all of a sudden I just wont get a data connection even though there is a strong 4g signal. Any app that uses the internet will say there is a connection error, it just completely stops. I've been getting around it by having to turn on airplane mode and then turning it off. After I do that, everything starts connecting again, but it is insanely annoying. It seems to be getting more persistent, which is why I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing and if so, how did you fix it?
Thank you.
Oh and just in case, I'm running completely stock non rooted.
I've had the same problem the past few days. Don't know why & it happens fairly randomly. Only way to get around it is to connect to WiFi or turn data off/on.
Are you on KK or LP? Its happening to me on LP. I live in CO and its even worse closer to Denver I go.

I'm on Lollipop. I think it happened on KK as well but it's definitely happening way more now.
I'm on Lollipop. Just started having the issue a few days ago.
I'm in Atlanta, both my devices have sluggish Internet def not what I'm used to. I called into tech support twice, was told they are doing network moderization....yea ok

Having the same issue here in Atlanta was told it should be sorted out by today. I'm also using lollipop stock but rooted. In the meantime ive been forcing 4g by using the lte dialer since I've been having frequent changing to edge network since the update, but I'm still having issues with a strong 4g connection especially YouTube app.

Some serious hacking went on yesterday. I'm assuming some of the slowness was related. Many online services were slow and United Airlines was take down completely.

I have the same problem. I had it on my s5 too
T-mobile
from what i heard t mobile was doing some cleaning up of files or upgrades i called them since i was getting 3g.
I too have been seeing the same data issue. It could just be coincidental timing but within days of loading LP I started having the issue. Even flashed the ROM again in case it was a bad flash.
As stated in OP I toggle airplane mode to fix. Annoying for sure.
PopRocks v5
T-Mobile
Bump.
I have been having this issue too ever since upgrading to Lollipop. I've had it on 2 versions of Poprocks and I now it have while using Rapture. Extremely annoying.
I got around it by rebooting the phone. I did not think of airplane mode or data on/off, i'll give that a shot. I was actually thinking maybe it's an APN issue, but no one in here mentioned that. For what it's worth I live in Southern California.
This issue is really starting to annoy me. One thing I do with my phone is stream music while I'm driving, and now I'm having all kinds of issues once my phone drops off wifi & has to switch to data. My music just stops playing & I have to toggle airplane mode to fix the issue, which isn't fun/easy while driving. Plus, when I do that my phone doesn't reconnect to my car's bluetooth. Ugh! I sure hope this gets fixed soon.
As an update, months later and I still have data drops all the time. Really annoying and it has definitely soured me on the Note 4. First with the GPS issue I was having (that was only fixed after getting a replacement) and now this data issue.
They only doing this too trick us into getting the note 5.

After reading the new info on the Note 5, I'm not all that impressed. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like a good device, but I wasn't really impressed with the changes. I'm sure it'll still be a great phone, but I don't know if I'm willing to risk another year of the data issue. I may go with the new Nexus this year.
I've had this problem (5 bars, but can't even ping 8.8.8.8... but if I toggle data off & on, I instantly connect & usually get fast transfers) all the time (Fort Lauderdale area) for months, but it seems to have been particularly bad for the past few weeks.
Is this T-Mobile's fault? Or do Note 4s on other carriers (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc) have the same problem?
My theory:
* The number of bars is determined mostly by the signal strength of the nearest tower
* The phone doesn't necessarily use the same tower for data that it uses for voice & SMS (in fact, when it's using HSPA+, it HAS to be simultaneously connected to two different towers).
* The modem firmware resists changing towers when there's an active data session unless it totally and completely loses sight of the tower it's currently using for data. I'm not sure whether it's the fault of Android or GSM network design, but data hand-offs seem to be "hard" rather than "soft", and always involve a connectivity break of at least a few seconds before the new one gets established.
* Thus, you can get into a situation (say, by driving a half mile or so) where the phone establishes a data connection with one tower, you drive *just* far enough away that it can still hear the original tower -- but can't actually complete a transmission without unrecoverable errors -- but voice & SMS messages go through the nearby tower. When you toggle data, it breaks the old data session, and establishes the new one from the strong nearby tower.
One thing that appears to have changed (in South Florida, at least) over the past few months: I always had problems with losing data connections while driving unless I disabled LTE, but NOW it appears to be doing the same thing even when GSM/WCDMA only is selected instead of GSM/WCDMA/LTE. It's like they figured out what was making LTE dysfunctional, then went out of their way to make HSPA equally dysfunctional.
i've had a Truphone SIM now for a few days and I've noticed I'm getting charged for data even when I'm keeping the phone nearby, e.g. today its not left the house and is consumed 1MB.
I conclude it might be that the BT or Wifi is going off briefly and the phone switches to LTE? For now I've gone into settings, cellular and changed from automatic to off and so will enable when I deliberately intend to go with just the watch away from the phone.
Does anyone else have this problem? LTE being used when it should not really be used?
has anyone noticed that the 4G on the S10 is quite buggy?
the speeds are extremely unstable, and sometimes completely unusable. (not a problem with the carrier, tried it on another phone and it's fine)
What I've noticed is that if it ever goes into medium power saving, 4G will stop working completely, it'll still show 4G, and i can still make calls, but no internet connection, even after exiting power saving mode. The only fix is I'd have to restart the phone for 4G to work again.
anyone have the same problem/ knows a fix?
I've read that I should do a factory reset, but I really want to avoid that, setting up the phone is time consuming.
Side note: battery life is not as good as expected, but that seems to be an issue for all exynos, not just me.
Same Problem here i unlock phone 4G shows but it tanke some time if i can use the Internet
Speed is Very slow and unstable
I am having connectivity problems as well. Keeps loosing the connection. I have to turn on airplane mode then turn it off all the time.
I don't have any problems with network connectivity, so far. In the link my result a moment ago: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/4796337263
Hope you get some sensible connectivity soon. Cheers!
Same issue here! It was fine since I first received the device, but yesterday, I manually changed the network toggle to get better indoor signal. However, even after setting the toggle back to the original setting the LTE and data service kept dropping out. I tried manually toggling, switching network bands, etc... but nothing worked. It just keeps dropping data service.
I just hard reset the phone moments ago, and will update accordingly!
Update - Even after a network reset and hard reset it still dropped to Edge data a few times. However, after the last hour or so, it has locked back on to LTE+ and is holding strong. Seriously hope this is a software bug and not a bum radio chipset or antenna.

not sure if i should say that its good to know I didn't get a dud.
but man, samsung needs to get their sh*t together, this is not acceptable for a flagship phone.
looks like i'll have to do a factory reset soon.
I'm on tmo as well. I have a feeling it's just jacked up radio software. I did some more tweaking and went into band settings *#BAND# on the dialer and disabled all the LTE bands that aren't used by TMO and that seems to have helped as well. It think this issue is congruent to the known issue with Sprint devices trying to connect to incorrect bands. I haven't used it out and about yet, but it definitely helped my phone stay latched on to LTE from my home. Additionally, when it does drop to HSPA, it doesn't get stuck like it used to.
I recommend tweaking the band setting before doing a hard reset.
Update - still doesn't fix the problem. Pains me to say it, but I'm afraid I have a hardware issue. I'm going to try a sim card swap as a last ditch effort, but will also seek an exchange as well just to get ahead of the problem.

This shortcut only works on Snapdragon version, do you have Snapdragon with 4G issue?
This code only runs on the Qualcomm chipset version. Oddly enough, my friend with the Exynos version has no problems, even though he's missing a couple of TMO bands for the US.
Yeah I have Exynos S10+ as well and it runs fine on T-mobile USA

This code is not working on SM-G9730 Qualcomm Hong Kong version. Any ideas?
Same problem here. I got the snapdragon US unlocked variant using here in Spain and compared with my old Google pixel, they do not have the same speed LTE connectivity even using the same SIM card. I tried to force using the 20 BAND (800 MHz) but I dont really know how. My galaxy s10 plus is using the BAND 3 so it does not let it picking the fastest possible band in my city. Any ideas? I also did think galaxy s10 plus US variant did not have 20 LTE band, but I checked it and realize it even does. One more question, what is the difference between 4G and LTE? Here in Spain all devices are running 4G, not seen any device running LTE, but my new samsung does. How can I switch it to 4g or LTE+? Thank you everyone boys.
just wondering if anyone has gotten the ASCA/ASC8 update and can report whether this problem is solved wit firmware update?
Bands matter depending on where you are. Depending on your area, only specific bands will be used. However, some bands used, while not faulty, are easily interfered for some reason with cases or other obstructions like your hand. Most likely, Samsung is planning to give a large update considering signal direction. I would probably not factory reset if you have a lot of data, and the problem would probably come back.
I ended up having to send my device in to Samsung for analysis and repair. I'll keep everyone updated.
after ASC8 update, i think the problem has been solved, havent noticed any problems so far
