Exchanging the Bionic for the Samsung Charge or HTC Thunderbolt - Motorola Droid Bionic

I can change (for free) my device for either the HTC Thunderbolt or Samsung Charge
Both have 1GB of RAM
My question is, with 512 of RAM (which sucks), I was able to survive with the Tmobile G2X for 6 months
Now, I tested the quadrant score and it's 1700
With a single core the result is 1300
So the dual core devices (as least according to Quadrant) are around 30% faster
Anyway, if I stay on Verizon, which device would be a better option and why?
Maybe dual core is cool but it's not enough
do you guys think I should switch to Sprint in order to have the Samsung Galaxy S II?
I DO NOT consider Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile to have 4G yet.
I have never seen speeds of >=14000 kbps like Verizon 4G LTE
So I consider those carriers 3.5 G or something like that
I like the Samsung Galaxy S II but that device will NOT be able to reach speeds of 14 000 kbps like the Samsung Charge on Verizon
So I might get 30% more CPU power but the internet speed is 3 times slower
So, in simple words, will you either have internet speed or 30% more CPU power?
And the most important question, is dual core so important that it's worth it to have a slower internet connection as long as I have the dual core?
I am thinking switching to Sprint, but I tested the HTC Thunderbolt today and it looked alright
Anything but the Bionic, it sucks, screen sucks

Would be prudent to ask these questions to owners of those devices.
The bionic is a killer phone and I love the screen

why is OP quoting those phones as having 1GB ram then...heh...
Actually, I just went through this guys history, he simply takes every chance possible to bash the screen and this "horrible" phone he's had for 4 days of use. I can't tell if this guy works for another carrier or is just trolling the Bionic board....

I only had the Charge for 12 days before I turned it in. The only thing I miss about it are the gorgeous blacks. Other than the screen, I never saw anything spectacular about the phone that set it apart from my Incredible and now my Bionic.
If you're wanting to change phones because of the Bionic's display, I suggest the Charge, but that's simply because of all the battery woes that you hear about the Thunderbolt.
If you have another problem that you want to switch for, let me know and Ill do my best to let you know what it was like on the Charge.

Confused?
The dual core, do you see a BIG difference?
Because my dual core is SLOW, but I have 512 MB of RAM with my G2X, so I think RAM is more important in this case, then CPU
It would be super cool to have a good phone with Dual Core, 1GB of RAM, 4G LTE (Verizon) and super nice screen
so the HTC Thunderbolt is all of that except the dual core (from my own experiment today I'd say that gives a 30% boost or so)

Well I went to Verizon today and I installed Task XP and Advanced Task Cleaner Pro
I killed all the apps and had around 400MB of free ram, which is all I need
anything around 400-500 I would say produces a pretty good lag-free device
Also, just for the records, I have a Samsung Tab 10.1, so if I want to browse websites, I will use my tablet
I want my phone basically to tether, use it as a GPS, and check email, and check websites every now and then
if it doesn't performs awesome while watching a flash video or watching a MP4 or MKV movie I don't care too much
Even if Netflix sucks I don't care, again, the Samsung Tab 10.1 is for that
Basically I switched from Tmobile because at Best Buy, Frys, WalMart... I would have zero connection
I would really like to use the phone to make Skype phone calls as well

Well, obviously basically any phone will do most of you stated.
The MP4/MKV is pretty decent on the Charge. Only problem I experienced was when I was watching an Assassin's Creed video, about 8 minutes in, the video would stutter in action. Which I wasn't really happy with.

Weren't you returning it because of the screen? Now you don't even need it for videos...
Besides the ram being better than those two devices, the 4g radio is much faster, so if the primary use is tethering....the best choice is clear. Just keep the bionic.

I dont know how you guys deal with this screen. Its the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. I feel like it could be used to play checkers

This clearly does not belong in the Droid Bionic forum, can we get it closed/deleted? Also can we get this guy to stop posting how much he hates the Bionic? He has started at least different 4 posts about how he is getting a different phone and how bad the Bionic sucks. His opinion is fine, just tired of looking at 4 different posts saying the same thing.

Exactly. Turn off lte if you're at work or driving around a lot and the battery will last forever.
And yes, it would be great to have these complaint threads consolidated or removed.

Out of the millions of people who bought a Bionic, if only 10-15 people returned theirs then that is an excellent ratio. The screen is great, battery life is 3x the Thunderbolts, the speed is AMAZING, the Bionic isn't perfect but with some Roms out it will be.

Locked down?

Will the Bionic have a locked down bootloader like the droid x?
I have no knowledge on the subject, but I can only assume that it will.

Yeah, Moto confirmed it. It can still be rooted though (I'm assuming) , which is the most important thing to me personally.

I love this community, and the ability to try others' work. I think Moto will keep their products locked to a degree. Done with them yet holding on to my Droid.
Who knows though now that Xoom is unlocked, maybe Moto finally got the hint. We can all wish, but until the release comes, we won't know for sure
The Atrix 4G got locked down, but hopefully we will have better luck..... My Droid Eris is feeling slower by the day, but I won't use my upgrade on a locked-down phone.
I remember reading from a few different places that the bionic has a good chance of being unlocked. That's because the chip they are using in the bionic vs. D2 and dx. The d2 and x have a certain chip that needs to locked down or something but since the bionic has the Tegra processor it won't have that special chip. I hope this is the case.
is this phone even worth getting? i'm due for an upgrade and they been trying to throw the iphone4 at me but i've been waiting for this...now i wonder if this is a waste of time... my eris is driving me crazy so i want something fairly soon...this phone seems to be the only worthy choice though for verizon customers...are there any other competitive options besides this phone without switching carriers?

The atrix boot loader is signed not encrypted
I expect the same will happen to the bionic as its basically an atrix with less RAM and a larger screen

Good News!!! And I definitely want the Bionic because the Thunderbolt is essentially the Evo 4g with less battery but more ram(768mb vs 512mb). It also is essentially the same thing as the Droid Incredible, but with 512mb vs 768mb of ram.

not really as the signed partitions and the bootloader is essentially checked each boot
devs are working to see if we can bypass it or something....but at least it isn't encrypted which gives the devs a slightly higher chance of finding a fix vs having the bootloader encrypted
Not to get get off topic but I wish the root population was larger. Then when motorola does encrypt their phones then it's not like the lesser 5% of the phone purchasers being upset about it. Me getting this phone depends on if it's unlocked or not. I have friends all the time ask me to root their phone. I have a few friends that run custom roms that I put on. Not one of them has had a problem(knock on wood) I don't see a big risk in rooting and flashing custom roms, especially with how easy it is nowadays. That's my 2 cents

I know that, but it's better news than if it was encrypted and/or had something similar to an e-Fuse, and that's what I meant in good news. I knew it wouldn't be the same as a Nexus S or Nexus One (which are Dev friendly), but my Eris had a bootloader (S-On) which so far as I can see is the same as a signed bootloader (correct me if I'm wrong). Hopefully, it'll just be a couple of weeks/months to crack it but (knock on wood) at least we won't be stuck with the situation Droid X owners have.
Also, unrelated note, but I played with a friends Atrix 4G for about 30 minutes, and a couple things......
Good
1. Fast as hell! (In apps, games, typing, etc) Very lag free! (see below)
2. In game, incredibly smooth and great looking screen. Better than other friend's Droid Incredible, and colors look nearly as good as my old Zune HD.
Bad
1. Home screen lags quite badly. My friend had lots of apps on desktop and though the Live wallpaper and app drawer were smooth, switching left to right was laggy.... Very nitpicky but annoying.
Overall, I still want the phone (more than before), and want Cyanogenmod on this thing badly!

Not really, the thunderbolt has a new generation snapdragon, between that and the extra ram, and better video processor, it's actually WAY faster than an Evo 4G. Out of the box quadrant scores are around 1975, and general performance is really much better than an Evo in every way. (not saying it's faster than a bionic obviously, but it definitely isn't the same thing as an Evo).

Thanks for clarifying. When I looked to check facts for the comparison, it only said 1 ghz Snapdragon, so I assumed the same CPU/GPU as the first gen.
still the tegra 2 is a faster processor ... otherwise its more of a wait and see...
I have decided to wait for the bionic instead of getting the thunderbolt... unless the tb comes out tomorrow... but that is very unlikly.
im so sick of seeing people compare the evo to the thunderbolt, first things first, LTE is better than WiMAX. Second of all the processor arent even close, and you know on the evo if you use a task killer, it might have 250mb or RAM free, when you do it on the bolt, you will have overmb free, it will never lag. ever. and the only time it will fall behind the bionic or atrix is gaming, thats it

Need some Feedback: Should i buy the Droid Bionic?

Hello XDArs,
Currently i am using the Droid Revolution, but planning on buying the Bionic. Any suggestions/feedback that you guys can give me about the Bionic?
I have been reading user reviews all over the internet, but i feel true review comes from somebody who has used/operated the phone for a longer period of time.
Please throw in any feedback...
The bionic is awesome. It is super fast and its just a very nice device. I must tell you one thing so you are not caught off guard. The screen is not great. It looks very good but when you compare it to an iphone 4 or Samsung charge under low light it will not look as good as either of the mentioned phones. In the daylight even under direct sunlight it looks awesome and better than any other screen I had. I highly recommend the extended battery especially because its only 25 bucks.
If you're looking to root your phone and start flashing roms and kernels right away I would go with something else since it'll probably be a short while for the bootloader to get unlocked

After a few days of use, I can tell you that its a fantastic device. The overall experience is positive, and I would only caution you about the camera focus issue, and minor bugs in skin. Both of these will probably be solved in the near future... It is a new phone after all.

Thanks, all!

Screen its great. As long as you don't put out directly up to your eye ball, it is a beautiful high resolution display that is perfectly viewable on direct sunlight.

Okay so I have add plenty of new phones, and the Bionic Dual Core Processor and incredible 4g coverage is the perfect mix that will satisfy anyone. I am a owner of the Motorola Droid x (3g coverage only) , HTC thunderbolt (3G and 4G), and now the Motorola Droid Bionic, and this far the bionic is deff the best phone. I reccommend to get it now because vzw has a special on extended batteries for under 30$. This is a amazing deal because the life of the phones is 24+ with moderate use and 4g coverage almost always available.

24+ hours..??? and you have so many phones..u shud sell your bionic to me,..
The bionic is very quick. I came from a droid x and this beats the droid x in speed in every possible way. Web browsing feels just as quick, if not faster, than an ipad 2. I recently connected my droid to my tv with an HDMI cable and i'm really happy with the different options it gives you.
People are talking about this screen "problem" but I never noticed anything wrong with the screen until the threads started to pop up.
The only thing that I'd like to figure out is how to put pictures into folders to organize what I want to see.
If all this appeals to you I say get the bionic with the extended battery.
If you have to ask yourself "hmm...should I buy this?" the answer is don't buy it. Only buy something you truly want. You already have the experience of 4G, all that's left is to get a powerful phone, and if you can get something like the Prime in a couple months, I'd tell you to wait for that.

Yeah, its the same people that will walk up to a 36" 720p television screen and complain about the lack of full hd, when in fact the difference isn't noticeable to the eye unless you are right on top of it.
Holding the phone as little as 12 inches, give or take yields a beautifully crisp image. Text and all.
Even engadget digs the screens. They raved about the qhd in the x2, and for some reason I feel this one is even better (I owned, and am currently trying to sell the x2). For the most part they are usually right in the ballpark with their reviews, imo.

I upgraded from an OG Droid, and this phone is flat amazing comparatively. Get the extended battery though, and turn off 4G if you aren't using it. It's a battery hog. I got about 14 hours out of the stock battery with 4G off most of the day; only used about 30 minutes worth throughout the day. I had 30% battery left after about 14 hours on the extended battery (first day, batteries seem to get better after about a week) and that was with about an hour of solid 4G usage in there.
One odd thing about this (and in searching, it seems to be happening on other 4G phones, so it must have something to do with 4G and 3G decisions on the phone) but from time to time, 3G disappears. There is a thread about this question here, but I can't post because I don't have 10 posts and it's a development thread. All you have to do to fix the data connection is put the phone in Airplane mode for a second, then turn airplane mode off. It resets the radio and 3G comes back. Even if you turn on and use 4G, 3G doesn't want to come back until you reset the radio.
All in all, great phone, much better battery than OG Droid, awesome display, camera needs work and motorola is working on it, very smooth and fast, and the 4G is blazing. My best download is 21Mbps, and my best upload is 7.7Mbps.

Somewhat buggy.
If you have a Nissan or Infiniti with BT, BT is going to suck no matter what due to Nissan's horrible implementation. That said, Bionic's BT was the best of HTC, Samsung, and Moto phones I had. The least amount of distortion I've had while using the car's speakerphone. I've seen some complaints with Ford's SYNC as well.
However, it wouldn't automatically connect with the car all the time and it would randomly drop at times. I'd have to tell it to manually connect with the car or it would just sit there. Even with the manual connections, it would take longer than other phones.
Not a huge deal, but it is somewhat annoying.
Biggest annoyance can be the screen. You have to look at it and play with it to see if it's something that works for you or not. Works for some, not for others.
I also had some issues using the sdcard storage when connected to my PC. Sometimes only one of sdcards would mount. Sometimes neither would. In those cases, it took a reboot to fix it.
Other than those issues, great phone overall. Great signal and reception, and LTE rocks. Phone ended up not working for me, but it can be a good choice for some.

Subjective. Everyone's eyes are different and pick up on different things. I could hold it at over 12" and still see the pixelation. It was really noticeable when green or blue was a dominant color on the screen. Look at the demo of Let's Golf 2 and it was quite obvious when it was all green.
Others will focus on color saturation and make a call either way too.
It'll bother some and not others. Neither opinion is more right than the other as it's a personal thing.
Here's my summary on the phone. This is subjective based upon my few days with the Bionic so its not a final definitive opinion but simply my views on the Bionic.
Pros: Fast device. 4G speed is great. Phone feels pretty light in hand yet still "heavy" enough to where it doesn't feel too bulky. Moto Blur for the most part on the Bionic is pretty tolerable enough to where I actually didn't think about using any home screen replacements. Sound quality is very good out of the speaker. 720p/1080p video recording is decent. ZumoCast works great for streaming audio. Battery life at least from the few days I had the Bionic was pretty good as I got about 17 hours with "moderate" use... however....
Cons: ... the battery life isn't so good when you start to use it beyond "moderate" usage such as streaming video or even heavy audio/bluetooth use. The screen is very lackluster due to it being pentile - I highly recommend you play with the phone via store demo for at least 5-10 minutes to see if this bothers you. Camera quality is so-so and could be better. No camera hard button on the phone like the original Droid had but then again it seems like most phones have abandoned that. A bit overpriced at $299 since I feel $199 is stretching it for this phone.
I have generally good things to say about this phone, but since you already have a LTE phone, I might suggest standing aside until the next generation starts rolling.

Droid 4...

I know people have made threads about the droid 4 before but this is me pondering with myself when im bored. Do u guys realize that pretty much the only major significant differences between the d3 and d4 is the fact that the d4 has about 500 more mb ram than d3 and it runs at 1.2 GHz and ours run at 1.0... welll i was thinking... we have overclock now so there goes that difference. Plus as overclock progresses and as time goes by i feel like we could hit as high as 1.5 safely. So pretty much the only major difference is the ram butt whooocaress? Like not to brag about our phones but Once were unlocked (which i feel like wont be much longer) our phone literally will be superior to any other android phone. What do you guys have to say (;
P.s. i could be missing specs but i feel like those 2 are the major ones.

You forgot the LTE radio.
You also get ICS and Webtop support iirc
4g lte is major...
Will the Droid 4 be a Global phone again?
Yeahhh butt like i honestly feel like 3g is better than 4g i really do. I dont care for 4g at all.

i dont understand that. 4g is alot faster than 3g. only problem is battery life, and that is only if you dont know how to manage battery life ;]
What about the screen?
Another problem is that D4's LTE is only good for Verizon.
DYP, screen seems to be the same as D3's. Screenshots clearly showed pentile matrix and specs say TFT - so it must be the same crappy screen as D3.

Yeah i agree its faster but it pretty much is an upgraded 3g like it not always works. It sometimes drops. Data bills increase. Idk man i just dont really care for it. And yeah battery life decreases tremendously but once people are able to flash stuff for it it will improve. I feel like 4g has alot of improvement to do not gonna lie
Sent from my droid 3 using Tapatalk
cant lie about lots of that. 4g is a great technology, its the carriers that arent using it to its full potential. If you look at the actual 4g capable speeds and the speeds the carriers are letting us have, you will be even more disappointed lol.
The battery sucking isses will hopefully be obsolete once carriers get more heavily engaged in research using fuel cells.
Everyone says the Droid 4 is what the Droid 3 should have been.
For my part, yeah, it kind of gets on my nerves, but not too much. 1G of RAM would be nice, but I rarely run out with 512MB. I don't stream multimedia, so 3g is fast enough for me.
And the price was nice, $150 with a data plan. So I have no complaints.
As things stand now, the Droid 4 will probably be my next phone in a year or or so.

What bout the fact that you can be on the phone and go online at the same time. not sure if that is true but if thats the case then that will come in very helpful to me for work.
I didn't know about that. Yeah, that's pretty sexy. It's annoying when I get/make a lot of calls and my IRC session constantly drops.

Battery life is not the only problem. I bought a Bionic in early October but had regular issues with random data drops - so that I had no LTE, 3G or 1X - in area where I know there is strong and solid Verizon 3G. There was also a nationwide, 24 hour data outage when I was ten days in. I exchanged the Bionic for the D3 because it was the best 3G phone on Verizon.
Since then there have been two more nationwide LTE outages (which also takes out 3G for the LTE phone, but not for 3G phones), and the Bionic forums are filled with people still complaining about random data drops. (Apparently this is fixed with an LTE SIM swap, but who has time to keep going in to Verizon for a new SIM?) Meanwhile, my D3 has been a solid, solid, solid data device every since I got it in mid-October.
LTE is still not mature and I think I'll be happier locked in to a solid 3G phone like the D3 rather than an immature LTE phone (because surely the hardware and network will get better in the next year or so) for the next 20 or so months. I would be happier if the D3 had been 1 GB RAM, but I don't feel it's that big a deal. I can tell you that it's frustrating when you need data access somewhere and find that the phone isn't getting data where you know that it should be.
If you turn off LTE and force CDMA on your 4g phone, you can can be locked into 3G connectivity. That said, I like having a removal battery. I like that I have the choice to buy the extended. I think Droid 4 will be a bust tbqh. More memory would be nice but with Dpwhitty11's ROM, I don't have a need for it.
I don't honestly care. Hash has the ICS ROM coming along well and when it has the camera to me it will be perfectly stable for an Alpha. I am glad that it works and yeah 4G would be nice but I don't care honestly.

I do believe that someone is working on a ics rom for the RAZR. so assuming that the 2 phones will be comparable it should be relatively easy for someone to port it over to the droid 4 "ASSUMING" they are going to be similar.
Razr will get official ICS support, not sure why anyone would work on it on their own. It would merely be a waste of their time.

3G connectivity is still affected by LTE outages on LTE phones. If LTE is down (as I believe it was again toady), 3G almost always is as well, though it is not for 3G-only phones. I also had as many random data drops with CDMA only mode as I did with LTE/CDMA on the Bionic.

[Q] Get HTC One aka M7 (Snapdragon 600) or wait for Snapdragon 800 device?

I am thinking of getting a HTC One. But, after seeing the spec sheet of Snapdragon, comparing the Snapsragon 600 (used in HTC One) vs the Snapdragon 800 the latter seems to be far better than the 600 series. Also, in the spec sheet the SD 600 is categorized under mid-high end phones, where the SD 800 is intended for super premium phones, tablets and smart tv's. Source: Spec sheet and Qualcomm Press Release
So, I'd like to know your opinions. Should I go for the HTC One, which seems a great phone overall, just not the best possible SOC (but great enough for a phone I reckon), or should I wait for one of the first Snapdragon 800 devices?
These days no matter which phone you buy, few months later something better will get released.
And besides that, at the moment snapdragon s4 pro is best soc available(until htc one comes out) and snapdragon 600 is suppose to be 40% better in performances, so I would definitely go for it...
Sent from my Evo 3D GSM using Tapatalk 2
I don't think we will see the 800 on phones at least not until a new chip can beat the 600.....
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
at this point i honestly feel like phones don't really have a need to get any faster for day-to-day usage. it's more about software features. 1080p is nice, but it's not a MUST HAVE over a 720p. snapdragon 800 is a great bonus if you're in the market for a smartphone when it comes out, but getting the s4 pro or the 600 will probably not give you any lag or speed problems. i mostly root and install stock android on most of my phones so the 2 things i always look for are:
1. battery life
2. design
that's it. though i wonder if i'd rather stay on htc sense if i ever get an htc phone. everyone always bashes it but i find sense to be extremely good looking (even better than stock).
S800 will come around Q4..And there isno end to it.I am sure when it comes out there will be talksof anoher high end soc..S900 maybe..Its only bcoz u know about it that you are waiting..you should not wait and besides s600 is blazingly fast and the fastest chip so far!
after the S800 the S900 then the S1000 etc... every few months there will be something newer and faster just like dual core, quad core and now the supposed 8core chips that are being developed or already developed ... as well as the SGS3 then SGS4 then SGS5 , note 3, then note 4 etc.. you get the idea if you wait for the newer thing thats "about to come out" then your gonna always end up waiting and never have anything ...
Since I get a new phone every 2 years I could wait a couple of months for better, newer hardware though. SD800 devices are said to use Quick Charge 2.0 and Voice activation, which are ONLY available only for the SD800 devices. I read somewhere that there are already 55 SD800 devices in the works (source), so waiting a couple more months for a significant performance boost, even lower battery drain, and charging the battery up to 75% faster seems logical to me. (Not to mention encode/decode of 4K HD content, 50% boost in graphics and 100% boost in performance due to Adreno 330, 50% faster LTE bandwidth and clocked to 2,3GHz) Those are a lot of high percentages! Voice activation could be interesting, but I rarely use voice so that's not a big deal for me. Maybe in the future when Google Now becomes available in the Netherlands though.
The comments are understandable that you should not wait for the next best thing as you will end up having nothing. But a few more months for such a performance and feature boost, to me, is a better insurance my phone will keep up the next 2 years (hardware wise).
But thanks again for the replies!
Well, I've had early access to one running a final build in Canada. If it's performance you're worried about; I've ran Nenamark 2 on it, and it never went below 60 FPS. The result was 60.2 average.
The only major thing that could have made me wait though is the quicker charging feature, however I mostly charge my devices at night so charging times makes little difference to me.
Don't take my word for it though, I'm biased towards the One. I've been following it since it was just a rumor and had already pre-ordered it.
Its the most poerful device rite now..what else do u want? Evn s4 wont be that big a difference..and plasticky

HTC One + will be out in a couple of months after the S4 release, as HTC always does.
And XDA will be there to make sure there would be no difference between the two (maybe apart from storage).

Well, 'no difference' would be a little weird since they always upgrade something in the hardware department, otherwise it's just the same phone. I'm still hoping HTC will release a new One model, like the One+, but hopefully with the SD800 (and all the perks that go with it). That would be the perfect phone I think..

According to some rumours there may be S800 phones out as early as July. I don't think anyone really knows.
I say you wait, that's what I'm doing. Q4 we are going to see the snapdragon 800 and tegra 4, hell we might even see the Exynos 5 make its way to America maybe in the next Note (assuming it becomes LTE compatible). but these processors far out class what you would be getting in the One or S4, so what's 3 months.
And the Results are? :::drum roll:::
Greetings, Bramgg. After Googling the SAME question... it brought me to your post and this forum. I was fascinated by some of the insightful comments you got on this post, Bramgg. i'm a AT&T customer in the US and unless i plan on losing my fishing partner (and more importantly his boat!! lol) i'm pretty locked in with my service provider! Lol.
I currently am using an HTC Vivid (pausing for those reading this to groan) and i'm primarily still using that phone because i have been dragging my feet waiting for the Snapdragon 800. i happen to REALLY like HTC even though i can't deny the sluggish performance and lag times on the Vivid have been verrrry frustrating. I guess my frustration is part of the reason i have dragged my feet in selecting a new phone but honestly, i can't take it any more!! i need a new phone.... hopefully in the next few days.
I have a real fascination with the Snapdragon 800... and am curious if you waited for it or went with the 600 as you were contemplating? Are you pleased with the speed? This is kind of embarrassing to admit on an advanced user forum but i'm not even aware if the 800 is out yet and available on HTC devices. I'm not completely locked into HTC i guess, but i do like the 'Shortcut to Four Apps' feature on the lock screen and i do think they build a high quality phone compared to many of the other companies who flood the market with phones and discontinue them three months later.
Thanks in advance for any help you or others reading this can provide... i'm very anxious to have a phone that responds more quickly.
Steven

Shadow, I'm fascinated (and slightly jealous! lol) of your knowledge on processors. i told Bramgg (in a post below on this thread) a few details about what i'm contemplating and why. May i get your thoughts please... when time permits, of course. i suppose i could wait a week or so if something specific had already been announced but i'm not sure i can wait much longer for a new device as i'm verrrrrry frustrated with the lagging on the HTC Vivid. The Vivid has a 1.2 GHz dualcore processor with 1GB of memory... but it's not cutting it. Texts, Apps opening... all verry slow.
Thanks in advance.

A better Alternative.

Hi there after watching the unpacking event, and reading the full specs I dont really see much of an upgrade.
Yes they have added some good additions like the fingerprint scanner which is awesome, but alot of the other additions wont be used on a massive scale by all users.
Hardware wise, wasnt too inpressed on these either really, would of liked to see an octa-core version, plus the battery isnt too much of an upgrade.
But Ive found a clone version which in my eyes is better, comes with octa-core, looks exactly the same
http://www.goophone.cc/phones/goophone-s5.html
Again this is only my opinion, and of course others will feel different which is there right to do so.
I may even change my mind once ive got my hands on one and have a play, but as for right now, im quite disappointed with the S5.
And I am a Galaxy User myself currently having the Galaxy S3 and soon will have the Note 3 also.
Thanks for reading.
I'm sure this cheap knockoff will be worth every penny.
I wouldnt give you $100 for that phone ROFL. No 4G data (3G only), knockoff CPU, bigger battery 2800mah then the S4 2600mah with less talk time then the S4.
would be great but no lte? i'd like to try before I bought one haha.
It's so hard to find a flagship phone that looks good, has a replaceable battery and microsd slot.

Hmmm... No LTE is a deal breaker. 3G is barely good enough to stream YouTube vids, and sometimes it won't even stream at all on 3G.

No, it's not at all. The Note 3 is AMAZING! You should check it out.
The Note 3 in a 5 inch form factor would be perfect (spec, looks and feel). Why couldn't they make a Note 3 Mini?
I already own the Note 2 and it's a big too big now and it weight a lot. I currently have the HTC one and while the metal body is great, it feels like you're holding a brick.
Yes I do understand that it doesnt have all the features of the original and of course the price represents that. But I just wasnt really impressed with the S5 so far. As I said my opinion may change once ive had an hands on experience with the device. Its thoughts at the moment.

Don't you think users will use the improved camera (a major update - not just in megapixels) and the water proofing? The improved screen with higher and lower brightness? Yes the puls-rate monitor is a bit gimmicky but unlike ALL the "air" features of S4 these functions will improve every users daily use with the phone.
Kudos for Samsung for not focusing on the one-time-wow-factor and instead improving the users daily rutine.

Speaking of everyday average users..90% won't even notice the camera is improved over the s4, so that argument doesn't work IMO.
I won't even comment on the "higher and lower brightness" because that is just lolol. Sounds like iPhone users trying to sell things android has had for years.
I'm sorry, but people are grasping when defending this phone. What I can't figure is how websites like android central praise samsung for making Touchwiz closer to vanilla android and less gaudy....but How?? They put a freaking camera shortcut on the lock screen and gave us a white battery icon, otherwise the rom grew by about a GB over the s4 and is more bloated than ever. They are following the apple footprint by locking the phone down and offering extremely minor upgrades, but I don't blame them because they still make millions by working less because people still buy this stuff like it's the best thing ever.
Note 3. That's innovation. This phone does everything. Maybe the Note 4 will arrive with features worthy of an upgrade. The normal people can have the s5 because commercials told them it was cool.

Are you really suggesting that users won't notice they take less crappy photos? That their phone is better in direct sunlight?
How exactly is Note 3 innovation? What new features did it bring that it's predecessor did not have besides the usual performance bump?
what intrigues me is the fact the s5 uses wifi and data at the same time when using the web be great to see how that works and if it really makes a difference should imagine its pretty fast?

at the end of the day people will keep praising samsung and choose to buy it after finding out that the new HTC One will have only 2600mah battery and non removable and oppo find 7's 2k screen is washed out and you can't tell difference with 1080p screen anyway. not to mention lg g3 will have a very powerful processor like the snapdragon 805 but still laggy. i predict in the end samsung still wins although i hope i'm wrong. cheers
