How do I flash different ROMS to my Captivate using stock out of box 2.2 ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
which rom do u want to flash? The easiest way is
Download and place ROM on your SD card
Download a custom kernel which includes CWM support.
Flash kernel.tar using ODIN to get CWM
Reboot into recovery and select Install zip from SD card.
Find your ROM and flash it
Op fyi That is if you're flashing a froyo(2.2.x) rom. A gingerbread rom (2.3.x) would require a step before the custom rom to flash gingerbread bootloaders with odin.
If you flash a gingerbread rom without the bootloaders first you will not be able to boot into recovery you will just get a weird scrambled screen.
OK I used ROM manager but I think I had a bad flash how do I redo the flash

Is Fasty 2.5 a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM?
Edit** Never mind, it's a 2.2 ROM.
You don't use ROM Manager to flash the ROM. Simply put the ROM on your SD, boot into recovery(Volume up+down+power), install zip, choose zip to install, select your ROM, and you're off

I need ROM to flash with Odin. Clockwork thing is not working for me and all the modded rom's are clockwork oriented. I am actually dying to install cynogen. Off late they stopped releasing odin versions. Somebody please suggest some rom better than the stock Froyo which is flashable using odin.
My phone is rooted and unlocked.
get clockwork working properly....so much is riding on clockwork...

Are you in leaked froyo ji6

Exactly i am in leaked froyo ji6. I rooted it.
You have two options. Swap in a kernel that has 2e recovery or flash back to stock and then flash the rom of your choice.

What he said. I would use odin to flash stock

The version you are on had a recovery that prevents you from using clockwork

Ok so I posted a thread earlier about how my usb drivers arent working at all so using odin to flash back to stock is not an option. I did however successfully root and install andromeda without them. Now heres the problem, I backed up the stock rom using rom manager. Anromeda installed a kernel and modem so I cant use rom manager to back up the rom unless I get the kernel and modem back. My question is could I somehow find the stock kernel file and use neldars sgs kernel flasher to flash the kernel back while still using the andromeda rom withouth having any problems? Also, will the modem affect my rom at all because I will change it as soon as i switch roms
H you can not flash a 2.1 Kernel on a 2.2 rom
Not sure what you are looking to do though
Im looking to install a different rom the problem is that I cant use odin because of the drivers not working. What im trying to say is if i flash the backup stock rom from rom manager its going to cause problems because its using andromedas kernel right?
Let me put it like this...is their another way to flash back to stock without using odin and without using a usb cable?

yes. you will need a CWM flashable zip of a 2.1 kernel and modem.
you would boot into CWM, flash that zip that includes kernel and modem, then restore your nandroid backup
ok thankyou!!! Ill try and locate the files myself but if anyone knows where they are and can tell me would be much appreciated.
why dont you just flash a 2.2 kernel with built-in clockwork mod recovery? you dont have to keep the kernel that came with your rom...
so... use sgs kernel flasher, why not? flash a new kernel then boot into its recovery (usually thrugh the power button menu on custom rom/kernels)...
Because I'm trying to install another custom rom, if i install a 2.2 kernel then flash back to.the stock rom which is 2.1 wont that cause problems?

H you can not flash a 2.1 Kernel on a 2.2 rom
Not sure what you are looking to do though

Search jh7 ota design gears posted it a while back. Just must disable all lag fix before flash
ok so i found the file do i go into recovery and reinstall packages or choose zip file ?
With lag fix disabled
Select zip from sd, choose zip, jh7, confirm
Thank you man, helped out alot

Why bother flashing back to stock at all? Just flash the new Rom and save all the headaches having to screw with lagfix.

A better option would be to borrow a friends computer for a minute and fix everything properly...
If I flash a new rom while using Andromeda instead of stock wouldn't that cause.problems on the phone because of the.files being.mixed.or something

I am currently running Darky 9.5 with JVE modem but want to try JVK or JQ1, would I just flash the modem in Odin or is there more to it?
+1
I need also to know.
I have recently update my phone.
The prevous modem is better.
I need only to flash a modem.

you can flash a modem on its own.
no need to flash a rom or even use odin.
download desired rom and flash it in recovery
Thanks for that, Im actually thinking of going to ROM Kitchen and creating a rom on there.
i recommend romkitchen soooooo much.
its the best place for a tailor made rom.
and if you forget anything, you can make an update.zip with the bits you missed, so you dont have to make a whole rom again
EDIT: i noticed in my last post i said 'download desired ROM and flash it in recovery' What i meant was 'download desired MODEM and flash it in recovery'
my bad
Well I've created and installed my rom and so far I'm very happy with it, its good to know about update.zip. So even if I just want to change boot animation I just create a rom the same as the one I have but with a different boot animation and rename it update.zip and flash in recovery?

you dont even need to make a rom. You just select 'create update.zip' and you just put the things you want like new boot animation, ringtones, themes, and then flash it.
no need to create the whole rom again
That's awesome!

You should be able to flash most 2.3 roms out if you have the appropriate bootloader through recovery. Just put the ROM zip on your phone, clear cache, dalvic cache, and personal data in recovery and then flash the rom.
Really, just read the first couple opening posts of the rom thread and they will give you instructions on flashing and if there are certain steps you need to go through.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
If ur on the leaked 2.3, then you don't have cwm in order to flash roms, so you need to flash a 2.3 kernel, via odin then flash rom. You can use the cog 5 kernel to do this. It has cwm4 and it's in the dev section.

Galaxy Mini running Android version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread)
How do I install this CM10.1 ROM on my phone?
I've rooted + flashed ROMs before on my i9100 but it appears the Galaxy Mini process is much different. Help is greatly appreciated!
Does the Mini have to be rooted prior to installing CWM or custom ROMs?
As far as I know I simply plug my phone into computer, download a CWM file and flash it to phone with Odin. Then I drag the CM10.1 zip file onto the phone and using the CWM recovery menu, flash the ROM?
Thank you in advance

I don't understand what you are meaning here. I asked in my original post the instructions for flashing CM10 onto my Galaxy Mini and whether or not the steps I outlined above are correct or if I am missing something.
Ya thats right, but u before must do hard reset, cache and dalvik wipe but i think u already knew that

First root it , then flash cwm tar file in odin as one package , and thej you can put custom rom on sd and go to cwm recovery wipe cache/data and cache partitation. Then just install the rom zip and there you go.
If you dislike the rom just flash another and if your tired off custom roms flash back stock rom
