Ive had the Samsung Galaxy S for about a month now, download the app GST (Galaxy S tweaker) and while doing the changing the lockscreen feaure the phone was hanging at the startup screen and not booting. After much research i evantually figured out i had to reinstall the firmware myself, downloaded all the necessary programs and flashed the fone. The firmware is now debranded and when i connect to it to Samsung Kies and click "Firmware upgrade" it says this firmware cannot be upgraded. Is there anyway i can get the firmware back that came with the phone originally from Orange? Or i would i have to send it back to orange for their branded firmware? The main reason for this is that i want the official release of Froyo when it (evantually) gets released.

I rooted my phone due to issue with wifi to take care of it and fixed by rooting deleting one of the file associated with wifi.
But now when I connect my phone Kies give me "this device's version cannot be updated" error. I think rooting caused this issue.
I unroot, reset to factory, and cleared the cache but it's still showing "this device's version cannot be updated".....
Anybody know what's causing this and know how to fix this issue? I've search all over on google but no luck.
Please help!

I have finally fixed the "this device's version cannot be updated" error.
First, I uninstalled kies then download the kies from the link below.
samsungmobile.com.br/suporte/samsung-mobile-software.do
Choose Galaxy S then you should see program version available.
Download the program and update the program within kies.
This should fix the issue.
Let me know how it goes....
Only the latest KIES version does the update. The older version would say "this device's version cannot be updated". Thus, no need to uninstall/install, just update to latest version. At least for me.
I also had the same message and to fix it downloaded the latest kies version without uninstalling the old version.
Note my xp home computer now has problems connecting to kies since i upgraded but my windows 7 ultimate computer works like a dream.

I've bought my sgs from Orange Poland, and I updated it to froyo, but update brought me nasty lag bug... after update procedure, kies told me "this is the latest firmware".
so I've decided to debrand my phone in Samsung's authorized service, because my in fw version number info in kies I had (IDE) at the end.
service fixed the lag problem they put me on 2.2 fw from 2010 nov. they promised me that they debranded my phone, I asked them, would I be able to update my phone via kies later, they said, sure you will be able
after I got home I connected my phone to kies, and I saw an info "This version of the device cannot be updated." WTF, I thought something is not right... but update to 2.2.1 was nowhere near and I had better things to do
today I solved a mystery (because samfirmare twitted about new 2.2.1 rollout in kies ) what exactly "This version of the device cannot be updated." means...
my new firmware from service was XEO not IDE "brand", but in kies I saw IDE... kies cant update when CSC in firmware does't match this one in *2767*4387264636#
and here is the bummer, service did not run preconfig, and did not changed my CSC code in *#272*IMEI# I had IDE in preconfig, I've change it to XEO, and afrer phone reboot and data reset, now kies is saying "this is the latest firmware" with (XEO) at the end.
now, Samsung roll this 2.2.1 update please I am ready

How do i change that value?
I have the Samsung Galaxy Europa (GT-I5500) and I'm trying to update to 2.2 and Kies is saying that this version of the device cannot be updated. It's really annoying me and I really want OFFICIAL 2.2 on my phone. Any thoughts?

Im having this same problem with my girlfriends phone.
Everytime I try to update her phone it says that it cannot upgrade her phone.
I updated mine to 2.2.1 now. Her phone is still on 2.1-update.
Her buildnummer is I9000XXJF5.
Either she does not recieve my MMS.
Very strange.
P.s. Im from holland, and the phone arrived in Germany Language.

Your apn settings will be different on o2 if the phone is from orange which is why probably both internet and mms doesnt work.
Don't know why kies isn't playing ball, make sure u have the latest version.
I'd suggest changing to a stock firmware from samsung. E.g. The latest jpy firmware.
First thing is to check the 3 bitton combo works, if it doesn't then there is a really simple windows based fix for this on this forum that doesn't require any programming or command line stuff.
Next, visit samfirmware, sign up free, download odin and firmware. Follow instructions to a T. Install jpo firmware first as it's v2.2 then you can go for jpy as the v2.2.1 is really a vast speed increase.

Ive done all the setting with o2 and still dont work.
I did the three button combo and reset my phone and put all the setting back in still no good.

If your phone is O2 UK you get update to )2 firmware .
If its an Orange product code phone you need to check Orange has updated the firmware .

you could always do what i did with my o2 uk phone that wouldn't upgrade to latest version...im guessing that you may still be on JM1 software? [thats what mine was].
all i did was download the Kies registory patcher and use it to tell kies that i was on XEU firmware. next time i connected to kies it told me there was an upgrade available to JPY [2.2.1].

Let me get this straight- Kies can only update Galaxy Tab Firmware if it matches the region of the previous firmware with the region where you are at present?
-I mean if I bought my GT in Hongkong and bring it to Dubai I have to go to hongkong to use Kies to update?
i believe it checks your tab's current configuration of the firmware via PDA PHONE CSC versions. if it matches a configuration found on the server it checks this if its the latest firmware for that said configuration if not you will be prompted with an update notice. if your configuration cannot be found on the server you would get a notice "tab version cannot be upgraded" or something along those lines. i think this is regardless of geographical location.
Does it mean that there is a record in Samsung server of the fw that is associated with my GT when it left the factory?
i don't think so. it just checks for the proper firmware configuration.
If so then how come Kies states that the stock Italian GB cannot be updated? It should instead state that it is the latest......
In another post you stated that the DX firmware you installed was recognized by Kies as the latest firmware.I am assuming you are in the Philippines. If I flash this fw on my tab will it still be recognized by Kies as latest even if I am in the Middle East?

But AFAIK, Taiwan is in the far east so in the same region.

I do not like to flash/update to the Arabic fw though-I don't read arabic and also not a Muslim so I don't need the Quran , Qibla direction and the prayer times.
BTW, what is the difference between the DX and the Italian GB?
mostly just the localizations/languages available out of the box.
I tried the dx fw and was able to boot successfuly.noticed the extra icon on the home screen-I think it was readrs hub cant recall now. But when I issued *#1234# i only got.the phone part.pda and csc were blank. Of course kies will not see the fw if blanks so I reflashed with the same result-BLANK PDA ,CSC.
At this point I made a decision to give my tab abreak and reflashed to the latest Arabic fw JM5. The process was succesful and Kies saw the fw as the latest. This reinforced my suspicion either the tab is registered with samsung to have arabic fw when it left factory OR that Kies will only update if the tab is within the region.
No rom flashing for me for now. Thanks for replies.

Yes I thought of the csc file you gave me. There is another issue, when I rooted using CF ROOT my dx fw and rebooted the sound which plays about same time as the samsung logo plays about few seconds AFTER the samsung logo disappears. So there was an issue I cant see. This happened also the second time I flashed.
I will wait for the official JM5 update thru Kies and rest my tab for the moment from the stress of flashing.

To put this at rest. It happens via CSC. Sammy doesnt care where you are located. CSC is Country Specific Code. Kies checks phone pda and csc to check the device has an official untouched firmwarr. Then checks the server against the CSC for instance if its ITV italy. It will find the GB update and roll it out.
Then how come when I flashed italian gb fw with itv or xeu csc kies says that it cannot be upgraded? Maybe I the stock fw from xda is not official?
Then the froyo I got from samfirmware happens to be official?
Samfirmware also does not guarantee kies will recognize the fw they provide.

Simple. Sammy pulled out the italian firmware I know what I am talking about. My tab updated numerous times from jj4 to jk5 to jmg with DBT CSC since i got the tab from germany.
Ah ok. Thanks for the explaination. Now only the Asian dx gb fw is official, according to noxxious info.

I can now conclude that region where I am in now does not affect Kies. I have since updated my tab to the latest Asian GB even if I am in the Middle East!

kies refer to firmware upgrade. every times I start windows but when i follow the instuctions shows the latest version is installed is there any relations wit upgrading to gingerbread
what exactly does you mean mate? are you already in gingerbread? if so, you hae to make sure :
1. the battery is full
2. quality of connection
3. back up the data
4. plug n play for about 45' (my experience upgrading firmware dxjpc - dxjpe)

When you start windows the pop up that you see might be the "kies update" not the firmware update. My systems(both on windows 7 and xp) will not tell me of a firmware update for the tab unless I start kies and connect my tab to the pc.
2 things you can do for us to see your problem:
1. do this on the phone app-*#1234# and post here the result OR
2. better still post here what kies says about your firmware:
like: PDA= PHONE= CSC= (sales code here)
then somebody here can answer you....

There is still no official kies update for your tab which is Arabic firmware.....
