With the release of ATT's actual 4G speeds this Sunday, does anyone know if our HSDPA speeds will get any faster?
What exactly are you referring to?
lte=4g we will not see any benefit fro its implementation ....it requires an lte radio
Or is your area (or all for that matter) getting true hspa+ (not really 4g but faster than plain old 3g) ?
if that switch hasnt been turned on for your area and they are turning it on then yes....you could see an increase in data speeds.

I think what he means is will LTE turning on alleviate some of the stress on the flipped on markets HSPA networks, or maybe the backhaul has been approved in these markets.
I can speculate that no there won't be an immediate improvement. First, there are simply not enough LTE devices and users that would hop on the new network leaving the HSPA network to make an impact, not yet anyways. Second, I really really hope AT&T is not using the same backhaul on both networks, so the HSPA backhaul probably won't improve much in these markets.
But hey, what do I know.

I thought the same....relief idea....but the only lte devices in market right now are hot spot (only 2)
No phones...and we wont see any until the celox and holiday are released in q4
Even then lte is only active in a few markets right now.
There are however quite a few markets that dont have the backhaul thingy turned on yet....so if that is what he talkung about sure....he could see an increase.
Here in dallas it has yet to be on full time. sometimes its active (and insanely fast) others it isnt (but still faster than tmo and sprint)

I think he's asking if AT&T will upgrade their HSDPA ("4G") now that they've rolled out LTE.
Imo, no they won't upgrade it.

But that is the thing...they haven't finished rolling out HSDPA...and there are no immediate plans of a national roll out of LTE ...it's market by market...
they plan on maintaining both ...I do know that for sure... but I don't know how much they plan on enhancing HSDPA

lol..an average of 3 is about what most people get.
It cracks me up when people refer to that as slow (I jumped ship from Sprint 2 months ago...we were lucky to get 1 mbps down)
But yeah...those speeds may indicate that they haven't switched it on for you yet...it's the same here in Dallas.. unless you are up late or out in the middle of nowhere.
I'm lucky enough to have a backhauled tower right by my house and I pull a average of 8mbps when at home.

that fastest i can pull off in my area (Bakersfield, Ca) was 1.33mbps and 0.46mbps. Verizon has true LTE here by the way.
Funny thing for me my "4g" thrill only gets about 3-4 mbps at my house. My captivate would allways be over 4mbps hmmm.......

If you're up for the challenge, the latest update of the Thrilled ROM fixes the speed setting that AT&T has on the phone. My download speed doubled from ~3 to ~6 mbps.
I Also increased speeds after the thrill rom installation. ATT has the build.prop tweaked for lower speeds. The thrill ROM addresses that.
As far as the LTE rollout for ATT, they don't even have ANY Lte phones out yet. I asked at the store last week when I got the thrill. Supposedly they will have around 20 4g and LTE phones by the end of the year. I don't know if that is nationwide...but it is the story I got here in Orlando Florida.

I'd like to know whether I'm on UMTS or HSDPA generally... How would you go about doing this? I know when I ran the Galaxy S i9000 ROMs on my Vibrant, it would show the H if I was on HSDPA, seemed useful enough for me.
If you go to settings, about phone, status.. it will tell you what you are connected to currently... there is also a connectivity widget also but I'm not sure what its called..

i hate to break this everybody but the Nexus S does not support HSPA+ which is what TMO's new network is. it does support HSDPA 7.2Mbps and HSUPA at 5.6Mbps. this is no good for t-mobile users.

Did I say HSPA+ anywhere -_-. Either way, HSPA+ benefits even HSDPA phones. The only thing that makes the G2 or MyTouch 4G "more 4G" is that they are capped at 14.4mbps (hardware) instead of the 7.2.

Not to mention the specs
Tri-band HSPA: 900, 2100, 1700

Why would it be on the spec list and not be on the phone? HSDPA is a standard for T-Mobile phones. It doesn't do HSPA+ which is up to 14.4mbps... I'm pretty sure I saw HSDPA in the settings as well I'll check again next time I'm getting 5mbps down

It takes equal amounts of data, H just does it faster. And speeds depends on your modem, and the service where you live.

Were in Ottawa are you? Im in Kanata and have yet to see lte speeds. im in an ongoing battle with rogers to get lte here. they told me were there towers were in Kanata i went there and nada. i know hunt club and merivale is a strong signal as is baseline and woodroff were their flagship store is. I have gotten decent speeds here and there but i dont believe there network is even half functional. i bought my phone in Toronto in oct and the lte speeds were pretty consistent and coverage was fairly accurate in terms of their coverage map.
First they said my device was defective even though it worked fine in Toronto. So i bought a sierra wireless lte modem and had the same results to prove to them it wasnt a device issue. then i drove to there towers with google maps on my screen to show them my position and the fact that my phone was in edge and sometime 3g at best and emailed rogers tech support pics as well.
There supposed to send a tech out again tomorow but at this point im not very optimistic.
As you can see in the pic when lte works its great the speeds there are from toronto and 2 are from ottawa, just not anywhere near me lol, other pics are of my position less than 100 meters from the towers and you can see the network its on 4g if lucky otherwise edge (tower is corner of campeau and teron other one is castlefrank and 417)
Also do you have issues with the phone when it tries to switch between 4g and lte?
I live in sandy hill and work downtown. I hit 4g downtown but 90% of the time I'm on LTE at home which is pointless as I have WiFi.
Sent from my HTC-X710a using XDA App
i haven't really noticed anything when they switch, but i'm not really aware of when it does.
what i have noticed is that when i'm on LTE my signal kinda dwindles, but its not unusable. its actually more functional than with full strength on 4g.
So I figured out why I was getting such low speeds on my tests. I was running off a Montreal server so it was skewing my results.
After using the Ottawa server my results improved drastically. The top 3 are after I switched to the Ottawa network.
I am impress.
LTE for the win.

Im in the same boat, for some reason speedtest and alot of other cell signal apps put me in montreal as my location when trying to figure out my location via cell signal. funny thing is it only happens when in lte, wonder if this is some sort of bug? when i change it to ottawa speed def picks up.
Also rogers is having issues with their lte they gave me 50%off my bill for 6 months so i pay 25$ for 10 gb and 25$ for my north america unlimited plan, may be worth calling in for you as well
AT&T LTE is about on par with your LTE speeds, cept I haven't managed to get more then 2 bars on LTE.

Your local tower/site might be being upgraded to LTE. If so, you should expect some down time. My site literally went offline for a few days (100% roaming on Verizon) until they finished whatever upgrade they were doing. Got LTE about a week later. But as stated, your mileage may vary.

My S4 is the same speed on 3g as my Evo 4G LTE and as our S3. I used Speedtest to verify. I'd take the phone into a Sprint store and run Speedtest on it compared to their display model. Turn wireless off on both phones first, of course.

If you don't have upgraded towers, your service should remain the same. If not, I would suggest you get your new phone looked at since it's still under warranty.

I'm coming from a Nexus S 4G too and this phone has so much better reception, especially wifi. Don't really get LTE that often though, which is kind of disappointing because I actually had pretty good WiMAX coverage. But I know LTE coverage will only get better with time.
Signal != Data speed. If your signal is good but your data speed is slow, it's most likely that the sector is overloaded or the site is currently backhaul limited. It sounds like the site you connect to hasn't had Network Vision upgrades yet. Go familiarize yourself with Network Vision over at s4gru.com.
Call sprint before you return it. I had the same thing. I had great signal with my HTC Evo 3d and when I switched to the S4, I was dropping calls like crazy and with 1 bar or no signal. Found out that they were updating the towers and I also have 4g in my area now. Woot!

Your phone can't make something out of nothing. My service sucks with every phone I have had because of the service provider not the phone.

Your local tower/site might be being upgraded to LTE. If so, you should expect some down time. My site literally went offline for a few days.

Good speeds. But this is a development section. Your post should have been in general. This is for active ROM/kernel/tweak development.

They are in an area where they have access to band4 its roughly 80mbps. I found an article that said most large cities east of the Mississippi and some western cities already have access to it.
Going to take time for the rest of the county to get access to it.

I get speeds like THIS ^ here in North Central Florida/Tallahassee .... I lost ALL of my screenshots due to my G2 locking up - just lost recovery after flashing a kernel & had to revert .... meaning LOST EVERY-THING on my sdcard .... but I have a lot from my GNEX with CONSISTENT speeds just like these !!! Point being, I get these speeds on my G2 but I only have proof of them from my GNEX running KK
I was in the mall the other day, stopped @ a T-Mobile kiosk to check out the S5 .... the dude asked me what I had in my hand .... then, what carrier (VZW) then he asked what speeds I get with LTE. I told him I ~average~ 50-65+MB/down while topping out at over 80MB/down at times - HE COULDN'T BELIEVE ME .... Soooo, I showed him my GNEX w/KK screenshots .... dropped his jaw

Did you drive all the way out to an LTE broadcast station just to do that?

I've gotten download speeds of up to 55mbps and upload of 22mbps when I was first testing my area for the best 4G LTE tower to point my directional YAGI antenna at ( I have no high speed internet options other than VZW 4G, so I use a Wilson 4G signal amplifier and YAGI antenna to get a high speed connection in a fringe area). Theoretical limit of current 4G LTE is 100mbps down / 50 mbps up so your numbers look pretty good. Remember though that if the cell you are in gets a lot of traffic your rate can drop off dramatically. When I test my connection now I usually run about 15/20mbps down and 8/12mbps up. Next gen LTE ups the max rates to 150 down / 75 up I believe, but I think the biggest changes coming in 5G are smarter bandwidth coordination between cell towers and more dynamic bandwidth and load management.
Don't wanna show off but.....zoom zoom!

Nop. That's is where I live. I'm getting that speed most of the time, Sometimes around 50mb but always fast.
Not as fast as some of you guys, but pretty good for living in the middle of nowhere ☺
I guess band4 hasn't hit my area yet. Is there any kinda roll out map out there?

I haven't seen one. It seems really random on which areas get it though.
This is what I get at home. Thank God for WiFi lol
