[Q] The led's on the menu buttons won't shut off! - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just flashed Serendipity and all is going well until I lock the phone. when I shut the screen down the 4 led's on the touch buttons won't shut off. They just stay lit with no purpose other than to drain my battery.
Is there a way to fix this?

You using BLN?

Tried it once but it ended up being of no use to me. Could I use it to turn them off?

That rom has BLN you need to download the app. Read their facts

Well they dont drain your battery !
They just stay on,weird though i am using serendipity 6.4 at the moment and those lights stay on only if you have notifications.....!
clearing the notifications should shut them and trust me dont worry they wont drain battery life

[Q] Help, extreme battery drain!!

Hello
I can't use my Galaxy S more than 3 hours, after that the battery is on 0 %. I've tried some of the guides here, but nothing helps. My phone is running Darky's Rom 9.1 Extreme Edition. I would be thankful if some of you could help, so i can use my phone without it should be plugged in the charger!
- Mosawer
I also got some issues with darky's 9.1. Did you tried 9.2 version? it solved most of my battery problems. but still i can't wipe battery status from the CWM.
No but i would definitely try it. I've also had Darky's rom 8.0, and the battery life wasn't the best on that also. To be honest, my phone has never survived a whole day without i should plug in the charger. I've also tried the battery wipe, but it didnt work, actually it just got worse. Before i tried the battery wipe, it could hold 7-10 hours, but now i cant use it more than 4 hours.
you could calibrate your battery, as flashing ROMs all the time can confuse the battery and make it think it is at a different % than it actually is.. try this
1. Run the device down until it turns itself off.
2. Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again.
3. Remove the battery for 10 seconds.
4. Replace the battery, but leave the device off.
5. Charge the device until full and then for another hour.
6. Boot into recovery and reset battery stats (or, go to console and type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin”)
7. Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off.
8. Charge to full while off.
9. Restart and use as normal.
when you have done that you could try a battery saving app i use juice defender its free, but there is a paid version with more features. what this does is everytime the phone sleeps (screen off) it disables all connections like 3g wifi data mode etc but still allows you to receive calls and texts..
also get your self a good task killer, and place a icon on the home screen to kill running apps quick, i do this everytime i put my phone in my pocket, making sure nothing is eating my battery apart from me when im using it.
try them methods and post back with your results in say 2days time ?? good luck
EDIT: another thing to do is use automatic brightness, this adjust the brightness of the screen depending on the ambience of where you are. e.g if its sunny the screen dims down, if its dark it brightens up... great for saving battery.
Thanks man, i will try calibrating my battery this way, but dont think i'm gonna download the task killer og battery saver, but i'll sure post my result after i've tried it !
well there is samsungs own built in task manager its good, you will be suprised what apps open up on their own and start using your connections and running processes without you even knowing. all that drains battery. but just see how you go
Well it didnt work dude, the battery life still sucks as much as before
- Anyone else who wants to help me?
Maybe u need a new battery...

If you flash a rom and the battery no longer behaves as it should and hundreds of other posts report exactly the same problem . Then is it not the rom you flashed to blame .
jje
Yeah i know, but it was after i've flashed the problem occured. I tried calibrating my battery plenty times without luck.
- I really dont know what it is, and its very frustrating!!

Hey... first off, what sort of things are you doing with your phone? Casual browsing, youtube, streaming? Wifi, GPS on?
If the battery is not defective, there must be some program instance that is draining that battery.
Wifi, GPS and that sort of things are off. I'm browsing a little bit, and then just use my apps and games, and of course i write some sms's. and hear music.
Thats the thing i'm doing on my phone.
Btw: When i unplug my phone from the charger, it immidately drops 2-4 %.
Btw: When i unplug my phone from the charger, it immidately drops 2-4 %.
You have a darky rom its a known problem read his pages .
jje
Is the extreme drain also a darky problem?
Read posts on darky section if you have problems likewise read posts on xxx rom section if you have that rom makes sense .
jje
There are 2000 pages of posts man Do you want me to read that?

Running
Docs Rom Kitchen and no battery drain
Haha okay
But i would be pleased if someone have a solution for this problem!
Nothing have worked, but i finally remember how the battery drain started! It was when i decided to calibrate my battery. After i did it, the extreme battery drain started! So it has nothing to do with Darky's rom or something else, i is the battery calibratings problem. Anybody knows how to fix it???

You might have some rogue apps running that overheat the cpu. Look in taskmanager which apps are using much power. Download cpu spy free from the market to see if the cpu comes in deep sleep or not.
Good luck
I also have it occasionally. POWER+HOME button to reset. One time need to remove battery. Actually I felt like phone is still open but screen cannot come back. Next time I will call my phone when it happens.
I've had this happen twice. Both times a battery pull fixed it. At first I thought the phone was going dead, completely black and the power button would do nothing, but the second time I hit the volume button several times and it started beeping, so even though it looked completely dead, it was still turned on. I don't know what the problem is, but probably something software.
Which ROM/kernel are you using?
Any special CPU profiles?
How's the temperature?

happened a few times too. So, last time when I found it "dead" I did some test.
1. used my bluetooth headset (MW600) tried to play music, surprisingly music started playing but screen cannot turn on by any keys.
2. I called myself using another phone, Caller can hear ring normally and the call NOT dropped to voice mail, however my Note doesn't ring at all, screen still cannot turn on by any keys.
So it doesn't look like it's auto switched off by overheating, seems like unable to completely wake up after deep sleep.
Phone using Stock Rom(rooted with CWM), with System Power Saving mode turned on. I suspecting it's related to the power saving mode.
I'm also stock 2.3.5 rooted, with CWM, but do not have system power saving turned on. I haven't noticed any heat, but haven't monitored temperatures.
Do you also have the stock kernel?
Are you using setCPU?
Try using cpuspy, from market.

Dead
I also had this case yesterday for the first time. I bought it the 30th november.
Did not want to wakeup, darkscreen. Only way to recover was to remove battery. I am on 2.3.6 french.
I do not use Setcpu.
Mine is unroot. In other words, stock ROM and kernel.
I think it is software problem. And I think it is either Samsung software or Android system. Someone need to run logcat though.
For your information.
When you sure it's sleep dead(not shutdown cause by no battery)
Disconnect any charger/USB connected. Press and hold the power switch for around 10-15 sec,
that will restart the phone, no need remove that inconvenient back cover for battery pull.

The first time it happened to me I tried holding the power button but it didn't work, so I did the battery pull. I haven't tried again since then.

It just restarted thats it!!! Im at stock kernel unrooted 2.3.6 so what do you think guys should i root or just wait for Ice Scream Sandwich upgrade?

See if you hold the button long enough for over 10 seconds, before I would release and think power button not work after 7-8 seconds.
I have experienced "sleep of death" many times on different firmware versions. I has never happened since I flashed KL3. I'm on AbyssNote 2.1 kernel.
update:
since I replaced the stock launcher & locker, no more sleep dead issues. I suspect the problem source is stock locker or some stock widgets. Also, battery last longer too.
now using: widget locker + awd launcher ex + multi-picture live wall paper.
For those wonder why phone can't wake up for some reason, a user at the green power app forum had got the solid evidence.
http://greenpower.pouzerate.com/ind...-s2-freeze--black-screen?limit=6&start=48#465
"And if then it looks like the touchwiz launcher has crashed and changed pid when restarting without telling the InputManagerService about it, so it can't wake up the screen for that reason."
So the culprit is the stock launcher. And this matched with my experience even after I uninstalled green power free, my phone still have "not waking up" problem . But since switched to use 3rd party lock and launcher for a month, the "not waking up" never happens again.
This happened to me for the first time yesterday, when I eventually got it restarted by removing the battery, it was at 88% so don't think it was overheating, otherwise it would be much lower. Also I had Go launcher Ex running so touch wiz unlikely to be the culprit. Maybe some widget, I have loads!

This actually fits well with my experience. Touchwiz crashes on me occasionally and just last night I was experiencing the sleep of death thing. This time I thought it might have been the battery, so plugged in the charger and that somehow woke the screen back up to show touchwiz in the process of starting up, caught red handed!
This has happened to me as well 3 times, and every time it has been related to using a highres picture on the stock locker. It would lag out on unlock, black screen of death, which i would have to batt pull to fix. Didn't realize i had to hold down the power button for 15 secs to achieve the same thing. Have since switched to a low res pic on lock screen and haven't experienced the issue since. Will try the alternative locker solution if it happens again.

[Q] Deep sleep issues G.Note N7000

Phone: Galaxy Note N7000 Blue/Black version
Does anyone know wat's causing my phone to not be able to go into deep sleep mode?
I already made sure not to pull the charger while it's screen off.
I have betterbatterystats installed.
what should i set to see what's causing it all; kernel wakelocks, partial wakelocks, processes, alarms?
and under settings, wakelock percent of time of what; time on batt, time awake, time awake minus time with screen on?

They say pull your charger out when your screen is on and unlocked...not when its off. I would also recommend restarting phone that usually helps. If that doesnt help. Turn on airplane mode, turn off phone, remove battery for 20 secs or whatever, then put battery back in, restart phone, turn off airplane. That usually gets you back to deep sleep but the issue will come back. At least that is what I experience in ICS.
what i said, I already made sure not to pull the charger while it's screen off.
what you thought i said, i already made sure to pull the charger while it's screen off.
restarting the phone helps but i have to do it everytime it doesnt go into deep sleep mode.? i've tried the other method you mentioned already too. does anyone know wat's the process multi_pdp and l2_hsic?
sorry for the mistake.
This is what I have now done after having bad battery issues.
1) Rooted phone using Dr. Ketans method.
2) changed kernel to Abyss thru CWM
3) wiped cache/davlik/etc thru Abyss
4) installed Criskelo v7
5) changed kernel to SpeedMods latest.
phone has been going for 24hrs with still 25% left in the tank. GPS Google maps for an hour or so. Texts...basically all the stuff I was doing before on stock except the difference is I didnt need to charge it once like I would have already needed to do.
Not sure if you are into all the stuff that I did but it has made a gigantic difference.
does anyone here in the forums who can work well around the problem if i were to post screenshots from my phone's betterbatterystats app??

Absolutely sudden battery drain-GingerDX

Hello Guys, I'm using GingerDX from months and lately I started getting a strange problem- I go to bed with fully charged phone and in the morning the phone is switched off and when I turn it on it has only 1% battery left. This happened only 3 times-always through the night-one of the times I was even on airplane mode. Beside this- the battery acts pretty normal- 2 to 3 days.I took every popular battery saving measure, by the way and the internet traffic is always off when I don't need it.What this could be?
It happen on all roms, that battery goes down very fast. Like 2% in minute. If you see that, just reboot your phone and problem is solved + stop running services!

Thanks, but I can't see that, since it happens while I'm sleeping.I also have very few services running almost all of the time. And why isn't this happening all the time- I'm using the phone in the same conditions and settings all the time?
if its at 1% and the phone continue work then you might need calibration, but if you are telling that its shut down then might be hardware problem( of your battery)...
but you dont loose anything to go back at stock and see if the problem resist....

It shuts down, because the battery got empty at some moment-I guess this is normal. Then it stays switched off till I awake and notice it,let's say few hours ,and then when I am switching it on- I guess it has enough power just to turn it self on, after which I'm putting in on the charger. And yes- battery is calibrated last time I changed the Rom.

[Q] LED Notification CM10 i9000m

Hi,
Im running semaphore's 2.6.5 JB kernel with CM10 stable rom. The issue is that when i receive notification the notification led/capacitive button light works. The problem is that it wont turn off until i turn the screen on myself. I feel that it drains the battery. So is it possible to change the duration of the led notification, like if i want the led to turn off after say 15mins

From what I've seen there is no such feature. I dont quite get the point of such notification if it would turn itself off But seriously, it shouldn't be draining the battery much. Have you used Better Battery Stats to maybe find the real culprit?
