Is it possible to hack ours to allow this?
maybe, give the developers time. But seriously, you can get a webtop for like 30$ now.

Not forking over $30 for something that is physically unnecessary. It basically "opens up the ability" to do something the phone can already do.
Yeah, it IS completely unnecessary. I'm thinking that someone should be able to get it working for free soon.

Agreed. Hopefully someone sees this thread that can do it.

Well I thought I'd give it a stab in the dark. I copied Dockprovider.apk, Dockservice.apk, and Portalapp.apk from Here over to my system/app folder and immediately got system force closes. Rebooted and set permissions in Root Explorer, reboot again.
The only menu available when putting the Bionic into my HD Station is bedside and productivity modes. I have to copy the OEM files back and fix permissions to regain full use of HD Station and HDMI cable.
I'll keep working at it and see if I can modify the files to work on the Bionic, but don't count on anything as this will be learn-as-I-go lol. I sent a message to Fenny who made the post for the Atrix Webtop hack...we'll see what happens.
I just watched a YouTube video of a guy that got the USB host on the Atrix to work outside of webtop using 5V on the power rail..... I would assume some sort of trigger mechanism should be possible with the Bionic and webtop.... I might get one of the $30 webtops and canabolize it to see if i can figure out what in the device triggers webtop. Would be an alternative to modifying the menu to always allow webtop.....
Actually, I wonder if you activate the usb host and plug in hdmi if that will trigger webtop.... I will mess with it this weekend...

Completely doable and done it with car dock and standard dock....
Don't know if you've already seen this elsewhere. But if you either own the car dock or the standard dock (I have both, thanks to Costco) there are 4 screws on the back of the car dock (covered by rubber grommets) remove these rubber grommets and remove the screws, VERY carefully and pull the back cover, and you'll be greeted with a tiny PCB with a cable going to the micro USB connector. The PCB is only clipped in place, so remove gently from the dock body. Slide out the micro USB, connect it to your DB's micro USB slot and connect the HDMI as well and to a display of your choice. As soon as you do so, you will be prompted to select a profile. You will notice the webtop option is now available. Select it.....
The same applies to the standard dock. Remove the rubber feet, unscrew, unscrew PCB and cable management clip....plug in and done.....
Or spend $30 and get yourself a webtop adapter.
Btw, Apple's magic mouse does not work with DB even though you can pair it.

Anyone know where to get the TV out cable?
Google 73H00274-00M
I believe that's the cable as it has the extra USB connector to charge the phone while it's outputting the video.
I think this si it. YOu may want to email the seller and confirm tho.. http://www.amazon.com/OEM-HTC-Out-Cable-ACT100/dp/B002OOZDSE
I think that cable is mini usb not micro
Correct that is mini not micro, cable will not work. But what about the combination of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OOZDSE/ref=oss_product and
http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Micro-Male-To-Mini-Female-Usb-Converter-Adapter-Cable-p-11269.html
I think $20 bucks is worth the try.
That won't work either... the adapters only push through the standard pins, not the special pins used by HTC for their TV out...
dammit
i need to get 6 of these cables....
anyone know where i can find out how to build my own?

one for each TV in the house
Seriously I need this... with the skyfire browser this will be the most useful cable ever. No more hooking up the laptop to watch last week's shows that I missed.
I have heard from wirefly that verizon wireless will give it out in a month..
But what I dont like is that there is no dedicated output port in incredible .. (ie its a matter of time when your phone will get discharged ).. So this thing will be useful only for quick preview on TV(like done for camera).
they could make a cable with an inline micro female to charge simultaneously
do not buy the ACT100 cable it does NOT work with the incredible. the slot is like the same as the HTC HD so it will not fit.

According to this video HTC explained that the TV-Out cable has an extra Micro USB port on it that allows the device to be charged while having the TV-Out cable connected as well. Really hope we get this cable in stores soon as I'd love to try this feature!
Correct you will be able to charge as its plugged in.
I just really hope that the dev who made the app to sync a Wii remote with Android comes up with the HTC fix. It would be so nice to have all of these game emulators on your phone that you can play with a Wii remote on your TV or anywhere there is an RCA connect.
Off-topic: There is a bluetooth controller that supposedly works with HTC Sense 2.1 devices I am considering purchasing, the MSI BGP100. I dont much care for it, but it supposedly works according to the dev website. It uses the app Gamepro on the market. Id much rather use the Zmote, but Ill probably just wait for Wiimote support on the Incredible.
On-topic: VZW warehouses dont even have them in stock. As in, they are still awaiting mass-production apparently. Fullfilment Inventory= 0. A few HTC events have had the cable being demoed but not for purchase. Good god how I long for one! Like many of you I have also scoured the interwebs for one with no success. Outside of bumping into a htc rep, looks like we might just have to hurry up and wait fellas.
Yea, just as everyone else i want one bad!!
It is not listed on their parts site yet either. Even though a lot of stuff there is back ordered.

^--yes, that's it, but it is not in production yet as far as we know.
Does anyone know if VZW plans on releasing a desktop dock in the future. I remember a little while back someone posted a link to a .PDF that had all current/future VZW Incredible accessories listed and their model numbers, I just can't seem to find it for the life of me.
Edit:
Attached, .PDF limit was 800kb so it had to be zipped.
I dont have an account for that site can you post it here.
R.I.P Desktop Charging Cradle for the HTC Incredible
http://htcpedia.com/news/htc-incredible-desktop-charging-cradle.html
opens the door for seidio to go ahead and make one. Maybe they will.
As hard as it is to plug the charge cable in sometimes, I'm betting we'll end up not seeing one. That, and the inability for the phone to go into landscape mode on the sense desktops, and no way to automatically switch to desktop clock mode...
Yeah...this news sent me to the wood shop. I posted round 1 in another thread. One of the issues I have with landscape is that the volume controls end up being underneath the unit when its placed this way.
Cm 6 solves this problem. Allows for landscape both ways.

Yes...I am anxiously awaiting camera working version.
Saw this desktop cradle over on the droidforums.
http://store.droidforums.net/mobi-products-cradle-w-spare-battery-slot/5A100A7114.htm
This one is no good. The phone stands straight up. I bought 2 and had to send them back. They do have one that lets the phone be angled. FYI
http://www.thinkhtcincredible.com/htc-droid-incredible-desktop-charger-10078.html
I have this one... its a little snug fit but I dont plug my phone in to charge it I just use it for a secondary battery charger and it works great... you can charge the phone and the battery at the same time but with the issues with the phone charging the battery I choose not to

Froyo does the same.
I'm hoping that after Froyo for the Inc comes out officially, we'll see a landscape dock that works..
I really don't understand HTC and Seidio's reasoning for not building one of these. They say its because the charging port is in a weird position. How hard would it be to just make a dock where you slide the phone in from the right side? Like just have one side of the dock open. That way you can use all of the functionality of sense, and don't have to worry about losing the volume controls.
I agree. I would prefer it to stand up anyway. The ones where you have to then plug in the cable are no good for me, I would rather just slide it to the left to seat it without having to try to plug in the cable.
Something like attached
Yeah that's exactly what I was trying to describe. Thanks for the illustration! It can't be that hard to design something like that. It probably wouldnt work with a case, but hey at least its better than nothing.

Heres a nice custom dock.. maybe someone with an account there should have him make the vertical left slider dock!
HERE is the dock I was going to get. But after seeing the one above that UgXvibe linked to, I may have to wait a little longer and see how much that one will cost. It's sweet too.

My wife has a Captivate and as I hold it side by side with my Focus it looks like head phone and micro usb ports are in the exact same position. So this makes me wonder if this dock will work on the Focus??
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECR-D981BEGSTA
This looks like it would. I found it for around 20 bucks online, maybe it is worth the try.
I'm not sure I would want mine in landscape mode, just because of all those incompatible screen layouts.
yes
By works if you mean does it charge your phone then the answer is yes. I dont think it does anything else. I haven't tried anything else though. Will check when I get home and report back.
Yeah I am wondering if it lines up and charges the phone.
Also, does this dock have the ability to connect to your PC via USB or is it hardwired with an AC adapter?
according to samsung, it is not *guaranteed* to work, and, to answer your question, it looks like there is a microusb slot on the back of it so you probably can connect it to the pc
I saw in the picture on Samsung's website that it looks like it has a micro usb slot, but in the Amazon review people were complaining that you could not connect it to a PC. Now that could be because they did not realize that they could use a micro usb cable instead of an AC adapter but i was not sure.
I guess for $30 it is not that big of a deal if it does not work for me they way I hope.
Thanks
Has anyone tried it yet?
It looks like the Captivate/Vibrant **** has the microUSB port in the right place, but not the Epic.
USB is USB, so as long as the physical location is correct, I can think of no reaso it wouldn't work.
Has anyone actually tried the Vibrant or Captivate dock yet to see if it fits

It doesn't "quite" work.
I bought one from eBay after noticing that they looked similar too. Once I tried it it was a mm or 2 off from fitting. I broke out the ol dremel after that and now it does work, but it won't without some moding.

They are flipped. I just ordered a refurbed unit from the AT&T site for $175 and just plan to flip the connectors. There is a user on here that already did so for the Sprint Photon. Will let you know how it goes and take lots of pics when it comes in on Wed.

ALL OF THE CREDIT NEEDS TO GO HERE. I just confirmed his hack works for ours as well.
I thought I got lucky and got a N7 without any problems but it looks like my micro USB port is defective! The plug only works if I lightly push it down, the contacts inside aren't connecting properly. I've attached a picture showing how I had to rig it to get it to charge.
Interesting. Mine has been on charge for 5 hours and it still won't switch on or give any charging notifications. I've already requested a refund from google, but if this works I'll at least be able to spend the £15 play credit on books!
when come out of the package, there is a clear tape/wrap around the plug, did you remove that? I didn't bother to remove mine and I find the usb plug to be pretty tight.. tighter than all other devices I've owned..
Odd, if anything my USB port/cable are tighter than any other device I own.

You're keeping it, in this state? RMA is your friend
This sucks! I need to be able to use this device daily for work. It's replaced an older one I've gotten rid of. Will Google send a new one first?
try replace a cable first?? Use one from your phone and see how's the fitment first. Could be just the cable.
I have noticed that the one that shipped works fine, but I have another one with a longer cord (so it can sit on my desk and charge it's a long way to the floor) and that one slips out unless it's sitting on the desk I can't use it or the plug will fall out.
Mine seems to be the tightest fit of any device yet but I have left the plastic on the tip.
If you have to rig it like that it more then likely has a bad solder joint meaning it the charging port needs to be re-soldered back down to the phone, or the port may need to be replaced because one or more of the legs has broken off of the back of the port, or one or more of the pins inside the front of the port is bent out of place.

Yes, ask for an Advanced RMA. Although, to get one you need to give them some payment information. They send you another device and put a hold on your credit card until they receive the other device.

My USB port has become loose after a week of general use and charging. Going to contact Google for repair / replacement I think. Not the first device I have had this problem on - although I doubt like my Alienware they will send an engineer out to fix it on site (now that is service).
Ive got this problem now too. GOing to return it tonight and hopefully get a new one.
Had to return mine also
I had to return my micro USB plug also ,,, but Nexus sent another
in about a week ... called them for info on how ,,, and they
sent info to email ..
I understand completely, I wish someone would tell me a simpler method than resoldering the port. I'm nowhere inclined to do this myself being as I have no clue how to even begin how to solder anything. I have to use 2 rubber bands, an 8 inch strip of clear duct tape, a bottle of hair gel to add weight, and my microwave to hold it all in place.. =| HELP??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!
