Custom Ringtones for Contacts - Motorola Droid Bionic

Am I missing something? Can I not add a custom right tone to a contact? I just switched over from my Droid X today and I came across this issue.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk

I believe the way to do it is if you open the Contacts app then click on the contact and when it shows their info, hit the menu key then select options and it should then give you the option to set a custom ringtone for that contact.

I've tried that but the only choices that are available are the stock ringtones that came with the phone I'd like to use an actual song from my music library as that contacts ringtone.

I noticed the same thing! I like to have different songs for different people, i don't want to be limited to the lame generic ringtones, i want Beck and Death Weather and QoTSA!

I just upgraded from a Droid X today and I able able to add custom ringtones to contacts then now on DB it doesn't seem to give you an option to do that I'm surprised

Might try adding the music files to a folder named "Ringtones" on the sd card. It worked for my portal 2 ringtones.

Files placed into: /Internal phone storage/media/audio/ringtones are usable as ringtones. If the folders already exist, just move your files there. If the folders aren't already there, you can use the pre-installed Files application to create them. From with the app, click Menu then New Folder.
Then do this keeping in mind that it needs to be done from the View Contact screen, not the Edit Contact screen:

I figured it out: I opened the music app then long pressed the song I wanted as a ring tone. The go to the contact select options and when the list of ring tones opens looks for the song title and hi-light the song done. Thanks to all of you for helping!!!!

I had some songs and alert tones that I put on the external SD card, and the system found them and added them to my list of available ring tones without me having to do anything.
have had no issues with custom ring tones and alerts.

Thanks. That also worked for the notification ringtone.

I guess this is just another method that works again I'd like to thank everyone for there input

Check out "Rings Extended" in the app market. Once installed it operates in the background. Assign a ringtone as normal, but when you do you get the option to use Rings Extended. It will let you choose any music on your phone.

[Q] Send small audio clip via mms??

Is there a way to send a small mp3 clip (200k) via mms? Im using handcent and I have it set to 1M but everytime I try to attach the clip I get an error message "sorry you cannot add this audio to your message" Im on ATT running kangorama
They usually have to be very small clips.
Have you tried using the default messaging client to see what it does?

Yes, Ive tried both handcent and the stock messaging client. The clips can be smaller than 200k and it still wont sent
I too cannot figure out how to attach an audio file to a text message. I have tried the stock messaging app and handcent. I have tried to attach .mp3, .3gp, .ogg, and .wav files. All below 200kb. I have also tried upping the max size. Nothing works. pretty sad that there are options on these audio apps to send but it doesn't work. The crappiest of crap phones can do this but a $600 ' smart' phone chokes. There dont seem to be any answers for this debacle either. Not that I can find anyways. Is there ANYONE that has an answer besides 'email it' or ' go back to your old dumb phone'?
Go SMS has an option to add Audio to a text message, worth a punt, plus its nicer than Handcent anyway (IMO)
Im wondering if out has to be in a certain folder. Turns out I can attach mp3s with rings extended but voice recordings don't show with rings for whatever reason. And tapeatalk doesn't have an option for changing output folder. ill check the stock voice recorder.
EDIT: nope. no option in the stock recorder either. Wtf..

I just got tapemachine from the market and rings extended shows what is recorded with that. Just says too big and can't attach. Prolly cuz it's a wav. Looks promising.

Recforge from the market allows mp3 voice recording for I think 30 seconds or 1 minute in the free version. It also allows you to choose the output location. Perfection. Good looking app too. Icons from buuf. Only thing is rings doesnt see the new recordings until the sdcard is scanned again so I had to get sdrescan, also from the market. I used to use rescan media/root but it pwnd my gallery so I didn't want to get it again. sure hope sdrescan doesn't fail in the same way. Final verdict: I've figured it out. Hope this helps anyone else with this annoying problem.

"Private Photo" hide...

Is there a way to keep some photos hidden but still keep them on the device? I will typically let people go through my pics especially my 3 year old but there are pics of other things that I don't want him or others to see.......
So, what is the best option?
Vaulty will hide them but it doesn't encrypt them. It just changes the file extension so the phone can't read it. But it would take a bit of a guru to look that far into finding your pics and will most likely be sufficient for you.
I personally use it.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Unfortunately, Vaulty force closes every time I select multiple pics..
Trying to hide those Scarlett Johansson pics, are we?
No, much much filtier
You can put a .nomedia file in any folders you don't want scanned by the gallery app, most other apps will skip these folders too, though some have an option to allow you to see them when you want. It won't encrypt them and they'll still be visible to file explorers though.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
Hide it pro works great. And its free. Once you hide it, delete the pix out of your gallery. You can even hide apps.

look up "photovault" in the market.

Anything out there for video hide?

Any that censors my wifey when she flashes me on skype when I am in a public place
As ind3p3nd3ntsaid, Should be able to drop a file named ".nomedia" into the folder you want hidden from media players and galleries. Has always worked fine for me.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
How are you supposed to create this file without linux? Windows wouldn't let me do it.
I did it on my phone, just find a random text file, make a copy of it to desired location and rename it to .nomedia

I like this method, definitely going to try it out. I'm pretty sure none of my friends like to go rummaging around in my file browser... and if they do they will perish!

[Q] how to set the ringtone on cm9 rom?

I have just flashed a cm9 rom last night
thanks somone help me to deal with the problem with external sd card
I have a second problem
that is
how to set the ringtone, there is no option or menu bar for me to set the ringtone except the default songs ...
when I start the song, I cannot find any opinion to set the ringtone
can anyone help ?
search the melody that u want than long press on it...it will appear a menu and select set as ringtone
Search it with what? A file explorer? I use Root Explorer and it doesn't have that ability, at least I haven't found it. I also need to set a custom notification as well.
Save SD.kartu MP3 ringtones folder, then choose MP3 as the default. Other applications from Google also play, Zedge,, there you have it and get on the phone directly to the menu nastavení.Stačí sounds, ringtones and set up.
sry my bad english.
Similar problem

A problem I've run into with both cm9 and cm10 is that it ignores my choice of ring tone. I can select them, but almost randomly it will just ignore the fact I've chosen it. Nor will it default back to cyan tone but this obscure quiet beep. Which is a bit annoying as it is almost as if my phone turned on silent.
Had to avoid almost all CM based roms. Hope there is a solution, Cyangenmod has come along beautifully.

How did you set ringtone? Through system menu? Maybe use your media player to set it and try if problem still exists.

I have a different problem. I set ringtone, it prompt me "Andriod System or ES Explorer". I pick ES Explorer as default to select the ringtone in one of the folder. Now every time I want to change a ringtone or notification it goes to ES Explorer. How to go revert to stock?
Go to your stock music player.
Long press and select the song.
A menu appears and select it as your ringtone.

Custom notification sound

Hi all, just a quick one, does anyone know how to set a custom text tone? I've got an mp3 file, I've messed around with file explorer and placed it in media, audio, notifications and also created a notifications folder but it's still not being recognized in the settings as a choice for notifications.
I'm not rooted.
It's odd because I can see the Facebook pop sound in the notifications folder I'm trying to put this file in.

Ps-original file I'm trying to use is a voice memo if that makes any difference

I downloaded some sounds off zedge and had to move them to the /media/notification folder and they did not show up, after restarting my device they were there.
