I have some questions that are confusing me...
1. What is it that makes ROMs more difficult to develop for the CDMA tab?
2. Exactly what, if any, is the latest update to the Verizon tab?
3. Is the Sprint Gingerbread the only Gingerbread ROM for the Verizon tab (apart from the leaked stock ROM full of bloat?
4. I'm very familiar with rooting and using ROMs on Android phones. Is there a root and ROM combo that is best for the Verizon tab?
5. If adw and launcherpro are for phones, is there some tablet equivalent I've yet to find?
6. The only thing even CLOSE to Honeycomb is the theme I saw someone use on Youtube right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPihz5x4enE&feature=related
Thanks for any guidance. Just wanna update this thing as much as I can.
You need to check threads by oldmacnut
He is going to be your best lead for cdma tabs... look into his "better than life" series roms, or check out his CM7 (still in alpha)
MIUI is on the horizon as well
There is a honeycomb beta by oldmacnut as well.

Cool, thanks. I'll check that out.
So, am I right in what I've been reading?
- The CM7 is the first priority to be made (understandably) but isn't yet
- The honeycomb is way down the line (as one guy can only do so much, obviously)
- The Sprint Gingerbread is just Sprint but still full of bloat
- The Verizon Gingerbread is also full of VZ bloat.
Is that right, Verizon users?
That's pretty much it. OMN's Better than Life roms for sprint and VZW strip most if not all of the bloat out, so can save some time.
Also, there is a more functional version of CM7 available from a different site (check my thread about running CM7 on Sprint tab in General section)

The honeycomb Rom is not beta, its alpha, Alpha 2.5 to be exact, it was not created by oldmacnut but was created by spacemoose, oldmacnut took the cdma alpha 2.5 and "remixed" it and is now calling it 2.5.1 with some minor improvements including sound.
Still too many broken things for everyday use.

Check under galaxy tab dev threads... its still in top ten last I checked... there are a lot of people watching that thread and many of them could possibly answer your questions... you might have to wait a couple days to post if you are new to xda keep posting here til you've racked enough posts to post in dev thread... people in that thread should have better answers for you.

My asking questions is only cause I've never had a cdma device. And it would appear that there arent really any completed roms for the verizon tab 7.

Sorry about that man... once Jim (oldmacnut) runs out of walnut I think he'll be back lol last I talked to him he got some fresh walnut and was working on a kickass blanket chest... check his cm7 thread for a pic of his progress, he's a really good woodworker and if you look under galaxy tab accessories you'll see some beautiful wood docks for your tab (I just bought one for my Droid x and its awesome btw) I believe he still has one of each style left... Jim planes his own wood from logs, he doesn't use store bought wood... look at me rambling... anyway once he's back we'll see some awesome work, as he's a perfectionist when it comes to his roms.

now, on a serious note, nobody knows really, progress has been made in the initial stages of it, but thats about as much as we know
2-3 Weeks...S.p.e.c.u.l.a.t.i.o.n....
6.1 is going to have Galaxy S support. Once that happens I'm sure Captivate support won't be too far behind.
Any update on this?
Its being officially developed for the vibrant and not the captivate, but it shouldn't be that difficult for us to port it, worst that could probably happen is us having to remap a few buttons and perhaps flash a new kernel

The build is close. there was a teewt pic that showed it booting on the vibrant but it got stuck in boot loop. so.....we can expect the vibrant very soon and the captivate wont be far behind thanx to atinm and the cyanogen team.
I submitted the script to extract the proprietary files from the captivate last night to wesgarners github, so they have that now

Thought that was for an Epic?
Anyways - whatever you do. DO NOT ASK THEM. They will push the release date out 24hrs.
I'm pretty sure that they are waiting for the "official" OTA from Samsung before they start really hacking at it.
And yes.. since most of the dev team seems to be on T-Mobile the Vibrant will be first.. shortly followed by other Galaxy S phones that are of similar hardware designs (Captivate, Fascinate). Personally I'm good with that... let the Vibrant folks beta test for me - so when its released for the Captivate most of the quirks should be worked out
I think the one that's going to get screwed is the Epic folks on Sprint. There is ONE person hacking at it so far.
Oh.. and Viralblack has posted a current "State of the Galaxy" post. Nothing for Captivate (yet).

Good idea..but we still need to show our numbers and support for getting it ported over..The stronger the response the sooner it happens as soon as the official 2.2 RC is out.
Mac
Also... hate to say this - but money talks and I hear the Dev's love extra beer money.
The more donations they receive from the Captivate side of things, the more likely they will develop a ROM for it.
Ooo... and antinm's github. You can "see" the magic happen: http://github.com/atinm
Note: I am not the maintainer of this ROM.
Has anyone here installed and implemented ShadowROM 0.2.2 for every day use? I am curious as to how it performs, with stability and ease of use being two of the more important attributes. Please reply with your experience, and this post will be updated with any bugs or notable issues that appear systemic.
Download link: ROM Manager
Known Issues:
I installed it but didn't tried for daily use because (just like MIUI) the media scanner doesn't recognize pictures/music from emmc. It is based off CM6 so many of the features of that ROM are present here. The only "highlight" feature I noticed was an option to disable the bootanimation. They have a whole subforum at DroidForums so you can get more info here:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/shadowrom/
The announced they are going to split from CM6 source code, so it'll be interesting to see what stuff they come up with. Here is the thread where they make the announcement:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/shadowrom/93037-important-shadowrom-breaking-up-cm6-future.html
Cheers!
I ran this ROM for about 2 weeks strait and found very little problems with it. It has nice customization features like changing the notifications bar color and the drop down bar color along with the text color of notifications etc. It was very fast running Launcher Pro and great on battery (although I use SetCPU and underclock to save battery) running KK's AOSP BFS kernel.
Just like the above poster said tho about it not recognizing files on emmc is an obvious problem, tho it wasn't a major issue for me. Lot's of AOSP roms have problems in that area until they get fixes.
I'd say try it out, just nandroid first so you can go back if you don't like it.
So what's going on with this ROM now? Did it die or what?
The ROM Manager link for it doesn't work and the website offers no information.

Billygalbreath (one of the dev's of SR) turned his attention full time to application development jubefore Christmas. Shortly after Christmas InsaneNemesis (the other dev) informed me of his decision to discontinue further development of ShadowRom and that he would be returning the development phones to me. The reason being he wants to enjoy his last year of high school. Can't argue with that and I wish him the best. He was very absolute about unplugging and enjoying life. Insane used to idle in the Cyanogen irc channel but I haven't seen him there in at least two weeks.

They actually did get it working using one of Koush's kernels that had the required drivers. However, I'm not sure they publicly released that version.
Are there currently any devs working on a Gingerbread rom for the Verizon tab? I was working on a honeycomb theme for the VZM tab, but have decided to try to produce a gingerbread rom instead. I also figured what's the point in a honeycomb theme when spacemoose is close to giving us a rom. There again why would we want gingerbread when spacemoose has honeycomb around the corner. I know that we should get a VZM update of gingerbread eventually, but my experience of Verizon and Samsung updates has left a bad taste in my mouth. I own a fascinate and we were the last galaxy s to get froyo. I am trying to get a team together to get gingerbread for VZM early. If there is anyone interested in helping, pm me.

i was just about to post the question of why cdma tabs get no love with roms, keep me updated if anyone puts out a gb vztab rom. its really unfair that gsm tablets have several different kernals and roms and voice data and were left with minimal support
Ya and the sad part is spacemoose is about to release a cmda vzm version of honeycomb and there is like 5 million gsm peeps whining to have it ported and I am thinking dont you guys have enough...they have even donated him a gsm tab...geese lay off of what few devs we got. Lol

I am really starting to feel left out of the cool kids club(GSM Tab Owners). Owning the sprint galaxy tab is like buying a mustang V6. I mean sure you have a mustang, but any ordinary ricer with a decent tune could blow you out of the water. Sure you could strap on a short air ram(rooting), or even sport tune(rooted apps), but your still no V8(Roms). Yeah I like cars a little, but I am really sad about my Galaxy tab from sprint. I had very high hopes, and they were all crushed......So Devs if you find it in your hearts........bring us some Sprint tab LOVE.
Well im running hc alpha 2.5 on my Sprint tab i think thats not to bad ,of course all thanks to spacemoose!

Your problem is that GSM technology is world wide, so you have people from all over the world working on roms.
CDMA is only in the US, so you have a much more limited set of potential developers.
Do you have a link to the rom? and does the market work?

It is in the "Android Development" section of the Samsung Galaxy Tab forums. And yes, the market works. While the GSM crowd is still getting Gingerbread ROMs/ports, we CDMA users have HC now. There are some glitches as the developer is still in the early stages, but overall, it runs, it's a great move in the right direction, and it's on CDMA first. (The dev was working on CDMA and GSM simultaneously, but the development on CDMA for whatever reason wasn't as difficult. I don't know if the GSM HC works as of now, but I know the dev. was close....)
And if you hate it that much, put it on ebay, sell it, and get a GSM.
Thanks for the info,
I don't hate the device as much as sprint.....and the way they locked up all the goodness behind profit grubbing.

You're welcome, although I don't understand the part about all the goodness being locked up. You just have to root your tab, just like all other Android devices. Once rooted, the device, and experience, are what you make it
I have someone that wants to trade me their sprint gtab 3g (I use sprint) for my wifi 16g ipad. I have a nook color rooted running cm7 overclocked at 1300 and an evo 4g running cm7. Do you guys think that's a fair trade? I'm not a big apple fan but my wife gave me the ipad for my birthday and use it for Netflix only. I have a question. I rooted my tab when I first got it, how did you install alpha 2.5, I have sprint and when I try it with rom mananger ,sprint is not in the recovery just att, verizon and tmobile. I tried to flash the verizon recovery, and it was a no go. It reboots into the samaung recovery. If you have a sprint tab how did you do it?
I have nothing but mad love for my Sprint Tab. Bear in mind I'm not doing nearly as much with it as you're wanting to do though. I don't have it activated with Sprint and I'm not flashing ROMs or anything on it.
If you want to make some changes to your Sprint tab, check out the informational thread I created.

I found a new love for my tab, I flashed it to 2.5 HC and it is neat again. It's buggy, but fun to toy with again........Yay Tab.
I've played with the HC 2.5 port, and it's just too slow for me. Stock, rooted with CWM (converted to ext4) seems to be the best thing out there for my uses thus far. Hoping we'll get a official gingerbread soon, or at least a functional CM7 port.. otherwise i love my tab! Sure there's not tons of roms to play with like the GSM tabs, but I'm happy with what i paid for it and my uses..
Hello everyone,
I'm new here,
Starting this thread so that beginners and new users (like me) can know about what people have done with their monsters and what they are capable of!
Tell me about your favorite top 10 apps and must haves!
Reason for choosing Droid 3?
I'd also like to know if some serious droidians can provide links on how to achieve what they have!
Would also like if they can tell users like me what should be done with their Droid 3 if they just took it out of the box!
I have a Motorola Droid 3 Verizon [XT862 (its obvious but still)],
5.6.890.xt862.verizon.en.us (I think its stock rom, but I could be wrong)
Using it in India.
And thats all I know about it.
Its not even rooted.
My reason for choosing Droid 3:
I wanted something solid, which felt like a monster in my hand, not like the new phones being thin and light as a paper, I needed something heavy! The large screen, 8 mp cam, 16+16 Gb memory are just add-ons to the list,
the main reason being the 5 row physical keyboard. I did not find any other phone with k/b with such screen and cam. And Motorola is well known for being modded and customized!
Share anything and everything you can, it is always helpful to someone!
Tell us about different processes of flashing, about roms, latest updates and so on.
Very excited to hear from y'all!
Hope. to get some really interesting and helpful posts!
Don't forget to have fun while doing this and help as many people as you can
Thanks a lot.
Really?
Really guys,
no one?
I was hoping to get some really good feedback!
Kinda old phone! I got it because i wanted the original but went with the Droid Incredible for processor. So I saw the droid 3 and it looked just as good.
Phone is end of life. These discussions have been had many times before. People are waiting to upgrade to a better phone.

Droid Incredible?
Isn't it a cdma phone? With 1Ghz processor?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Oh, I see.
But buddy, this discussion is not only about the features of the phone but more about what can one do or should do if they just got it.
This phone is not available at the place I'm using it. Specs are incredible, except for the software update.
I do not see a single phone with a keyboard like this with such a screen over here.
Even though it is an old phone, I got it regardless of its lousy software update.
And therefore I wanted to know, what people are doing with their droid3 regarding software?
I wanted to know which rom are they using and what apps are must haves!
Thats all.
Thank you all for reading.
Rom toolbox, safestrap3, thats all i recommend for must have apps.
Run stock for a while, and then put on safestrap and see what roms you like.
You can also use the ubuntu install app in the market if you want a linux distribution, worked ok on my droid3.
If you like at&t or tmobile, use the radio hack to skip verizon.

you shouldn't loose unlock but if the rom wasn't dev'd for your specific device..ie..xt862,xt860 ect you might have to flash the proper radio and build prop
