[Q] Just got my Galaxy Tab where to start? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, just got my Galaxy Tab, I was wondering where to start?
This is my sw info:
GT-P1000
fw: 2.2
P100XXJIE
FROYO.XWJJ3
What would I like to do is to unlock it (it is locked to VIP provider in Croatia) and flash some custom rom.
Where to start? What rom? How to unlock? Where is Waldo?

1. Back up your existing firmware, in case you want to revert.
You can do this by rooting your Tab - I use SuperOneClick.
Titanium Backup is a very good app for backing up, it needs root access.
2. Visit the Dev thread.
3. Choose a ROM. Make sure it is appropriate for your Tab, i.e., don't try to load a CDMA ROM, or a P1000L/P1000N ROM
4. Thank the Developer - it's important to be nice.
5. If you don't like that ROM, choose another!
Hope that helps...

[Q] Way to unroot I9000 Froyo 2.2

Hi,
I need to root my device (Galaxy S I9000 International) to do a simple replace for a file in an app's directory. Then I want my device to be unrooted. My ROM is stock. My device runs Froyo 2.2 . Is there a safe way to root my device and then unroot it? (without having to risk my phone or having to backup and do full factory restore?)
I was looking for an answer in the FAQ, but haven't found & I'm not sure it is updated.
Thank you very much.

[Q] Is this the correct order to fully Backup & Root a new Samsung i9000m?

I just got my first android device:
Galaxy S i9000m,
Froyo 2.2
Baseband: I900UGKC1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build #: FROYO.UGKC1
I would like to completely preserve the orginal stock ROM, folders, files, bootloader, etc for full-restore to out-of-box condition if warranty is needed.
I have been reading a lot of XDA-threads for days but am still confused especially about Step 2 and 4 (I'm actually dreaming in XDA).
I feel better knowing what I am doing and where I am going BEFORE I get started.
My plan is the following:1. Root - (via SuperOneClick)
2. BACKUP EFS FOLDER - (via EFS Pro)
3. Back up Stock ROM - (via ROM Manager's Clockwork)
4. Unlock - (via Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool or Galaxy S Unlock)1) Is this the RIGHT order to do these steps in? Will this backup everything?
2) Should I update to 2.3 (reported to be available) or newer via Kies or leave at Froyo before doing anything?
3) Any other advice is warmly appreciated.
If this is correct, perhaps it will help other first timers as well.
Thanks in advance!

Samsung Galaxy S removing vodafon logo?

Hi guys so first of all i was a iPhone user so i'm newbie at the Android development,i have a couple of question on which i hope you can help,i bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 but when the phone is booting it shows annoying Vodafon logo and Vodafon apps,is there way to put back default booting and apps? on the phone android version is Gingerbred is there way maybe to upgrade on IceCream sandwich?also one big question ,can Samsung can be locked i mean now it's unlocked on my network and if i do update over Kies will it lock to Vodafon or someother network is there way to check it?.Thanks
Hello rider17...
First of all, welcome to this amazing community.
The first thing you need to do is read, read and read... a lot.
The section reserved to our Samsung Galaxy S is very active and there's always something new to try.
To get rid of all that bloatware from Vodafone you need to flash a stock or a costumized ROM.
One of the most important tools that you will need is Odin. (search the forum you'll find it easily)
The first step to enter the world of costumized ROMs is the get ROOT.
There are several methods to achieve this but the one I recommend is to flash the CF-ROOT appropriate to the version installed in your phone.
With CF-ROOT you get 2 things in one step, ROOT and CWM (Clockwork Recovery Mod).
After that you can install any customized ROM, just follow the steps of the ROM Maker/Cooker.
If I helped you out, please hit the "Thanks" button!
If you need some more guidance, send me a private message.
Thanks @kavsko for your reply, does anybody else have suggestion to answer on my other question so i can start with Android

If the Phone is unlocked it will stay unlocked.
If you install a custom ROM you will not be able to upgrade using KIES. In fact you will not be able to use Kies.
I strongly suggest that before you root/install custom ROM that you look up how to back up your EFS folder. This folder contains your IMEI in a HEX file

Not really much help for your topic but follow what the guys above have suggested, if in doubt ask and be as detailed as possible when you do so, but make sure you read up on everything before you try anything you would want your first android experience to be a bad one. good luck

You are now on your way to having a rooted/custom rom.
1. find a rooted version of your kernel in 'settings>> "about phone"
2. backup EFS folder
3. find rom/flash rom
My rooted version is :2.6.35.7-i9000 BUJVA-CL220544 [email protected] #2 what to do with this?
Just look for a rootet Kernel, like Semaphore, CF-Root, Midnight e.g.
Take the one for your firmware, and flash with Odin.
Or you could also look for the latest Stock Firmware and flash this before flashing the kernel.
I did that and i rooted ,i used a CF-Root but i have a problem ,phone keep's restarting after booting up ,i used Odin 1.85 and CF-Root-XX-2.4 version, and the Android version on my device is :GINGERBREAD.BUJVA,it keep's showing me Vodafon blotware and restarting i described problem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26698525#post26698525 .Please help me
Are you saying that you are getting a boot loop?
Can you get into Recovery or Download mode?
In recovery perform a factory reset (all apps and data will be erased. Internal SD card should be ok)
If this fails create a account at samfirmware.com and download the firmware for your phone/carrier/region
Once downloaded flash using Odin take note if it is a 1 file or 3 file (note you will need to extract from the downloaded zip to get to the Flash .TAR .PDA etc
1 file flash in PDA in odin
3 file is self explanatory
boot phone and once up and running attempt root flash again
I don't really know waht boot loop mean, but i can enter download and recovey mode,in fact i can enter the phone, but after using it for 5-6 seconds it reboots,do i need to do a EFS file backup?I tired wipe data/factory reset from recovery but it's the same still rebooting....????
Thanks now it seem's fine and rooted now when the phone is rooted what i need to do to remove the Vodafon sign/blotware,put another ROM ?do i need to do EFS backup i read that thread that you send me but i don't know how to use adb shell,is there easier way to do it ?

To remove Vodafon bloatware i use Titanium Backup locate vodafon app and Un-install (remove at your own risk)
Voda fone boot logo you can leave it there it is only boot images.
If you do not want to use the ADB way to backup the EFS folder you can use Terminial emulator from Google play and enter the commands directly into the emulator. This is the way that I backed up my EFS folder
$ su
# tar cvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
(OR)
# busybox tar cvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
$ su
# cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
(OR)
# busybox cat /dev/block/stl3 > /sdcard/efs_dev-block-stl3.img
Once you have the *.img and *.tar.gz you can copy them as normal to your computer.
Nope i was wrong the phone is still reboting, grhhh like it won't accept any kernel ,where can i find a damn kernel that work with SGS Vodafon(Germany) i recorded video so you can see what's happening ,sorry for low quality : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t7QObFHN_g&feature=youtu.be
Again news phone is now defintly fixed,i backup the Efs folder and img ,now how to remove the Vodafon blotware?

[Q] New GT-I9000 - what to do

Hi guys I have just got a new (to me) GT-I9000 that was on T-Mobile and has been unlocked by the previous owner. It's spec is:
Firmware 2.3.3
Baseband version I9000XXJW4
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9000BOJV8-CL273008
Build number Gingerbread.BOJV8
32GB SD Card
I have test connected it to ODIN in Download Mode (3 button press) after giving up on Kies !
1. Should I Root it, and if so how. I have read various articles on here but don't want to brick it due to using the wrong Code/Version
2. Should I back up everything, image etc onto the SD card, if so what method do I use to do that
3. Should I stick with this ROM or are there better/newer ones out there I should flash .. if so which versions and how ?
Apologies for the simple questions, but step by step recommendations would be most helpful so I don't mess things up.
thanks
1) I really recommend rooting it, or installing a custom kernel (like Semaphore). You will get a lot more options to play around with, but more importantly: built in Voodoo Sound.
Here's a guide you can follow if you'd want to flash or just root/flash kernel. If you were to flash a kernel, you just open Odin and put the downloaded tar into PDA and hit Start after plugging in your phone (be sure to matching version).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
2) If you're referring to backing up apps and etc. I personally use Mybackup Root + SMS backup & restore. Also, syncing everything with Google, like contacts. Flashing with Odin does not erase your SD-card but for safety reason I always backup my files to a computer.
3) If you prefer stock/Touchwiz I would suggest you stick with stock GB, maybe XWJW8 which is the latest one? If you'd like a customized GB rom I recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689513 which is JW7 with some extra tweaks and Galaxy S3 theme.
You could also go with ICS/JB if you want the latest Android versions. Hope everything works out for you!

[Q] Help!!! Tried to root the phone , now phone won't boot.

Hi all,
This morning I tried to root my brother phone by using the "1A.Root + safe kernel + advance recovery.".
Link
After downloading the zip file, copied it onto the external sd card, I applied the update from external storage. Now, my brother phone won't boot.
I am here to visit and now my day is stuck trying to fix this.
Here are two things that I should have done in hind sight.
1. I should have backup his contact information.
2. I should have check his ROM versiion (i.e. ICS or Jelly Bean).
Now, the only thing that I can do is getting into "Philz Touch 5".
I could do backup and restore.
Here are two questions that I have.
1. Is there way I can backup the contact in "Philz Touch 5"? Is this include in the "data" backup.
2. Can recovery this back to previous unrooted "kernel" or origninal kernel.
It seemed that I can also run "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" in Kies. It prompted me for the model and serial number and it asked whether I want to proceed. But that would wipe everything.
EDIT: I just tried KIES's "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" and it failed. The pop up with a message in "square boxes". I guess it failed doing "Firmware Upgrade and Initialiation." :[
Please, any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
- Leapfrog.
Okay, I downloaded "N7000ZSLO2 N7000OZSLO2 - Taiwan" from here, installed it and got it back up and running too. Contact list is still remain intact. However, I am not sure it is the right ROM for US T-Mobile model because I got H+ and occasional 3G.
My brother said his is an international version. I am not sure if the correct for his phone.
Can someone please point me to the correct ROM for US T-mobile version of Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000?
Thanks!!!!

1. Philz kernels are specific to rom version, so lp9 must be flashed with lp9 rom.
2. Goto settings about phone and double check the model number before you do anything else.
3. Urm, think the clue is is the rom title you downloaded (korea)! Go through Dr Ketan's thread and it outlines rom localities.
