A friend of mine just got the revolution. He is brand new to any smartphones. I searched on here but came up with endless threads that didn't answer my question. His battery life isn't that great. We both work 12hr days without being able to charge the phone all the time. So I had him turn off various functions like Bluetooth and gps. Is there a way to turn off 4G? I can on my EVO but didn't see an option on his phone. Thanks

That should do it...

The easiest way is to get the free apply DataSwitch. Just click it yo turn it on and off

Maybe i'm just a bit off topic but I use a combination of apps to get great battery life.
1. (Watchdog) keeps track of data hogging apps and allows you to decide how it alerts you and what to do with those apps.
2. (AutomateIt Pro) lets you set rules to decide what apps and services are active and when along with countless other options.

Both can be found in Android Market with far better explanations on how they work...

Here is an old App which goes right to Mobile Network Setting for Android 4.2.1
Search Mobile Network Setting shortcut
The *#*#4636#*#* code to get to the menu to choose 3G/2G is not working. How else do you choose 3G or HSPA or 2G on the phone?
Download the app Phone Info from the Play Store, it works as a replacement to it. Works 100%

its only shows the info not change anything in radio settings though
So, you can't force the phone to go into WCDMA only mode with the app?
Update: I tried forcing it and it is working so it is certainly more than just an info app. Or did you mean something else?
Of course you can tinker with the settings, I used it to disable 4G LTE

How did you disable LTE? I try switching to 3G or EDGE and it goes back to automatic
It works fine for me, the 4G logo remains but 4G stays disabled. I set it to WCDMA only and it stays that way.

That trick (*#*#4636#*#* ) is still in some official support notes but may no longer work, perhaps due to a JB update or provider chicanery, and on my phone Power Toggles only invokes a native configuration screen in which network settings is greyed out .
I've been using "LTE Setting" by Ryo Ueshima to force 4G without LTE. In spite of having been designed for the Sony Xperia, on my AT&T Atrix HD the "LTE Setting" app successfully forces the setting until phone is next powered off (not sleep, actually powered off) like so:
Within the app under "Set prefered network type"
- Select "WCDMA only" to use 4G (HSDPA) without LTE. Phone shows 4G icon without the LTE icon.
or
- Select "GSM only" to use Edge (LOL and to hear some nostalgic interference in nearby speakers). Phone shows E icon for Edge.
- The default for this setting on my phone/provider combination is LTE/GSM/WCDMA. Phone shows 4G and LTE icons. This state is restored if the phone is powered off/on and I wont mess with any other settings in this app.
I don't know of this will work for providers other than AT&T but has worked like a charm for me while AT&T updates software for Lucent switches in their towers in an attempt to fix an LTE specific issue where phones are not properly being switched to the phone-call state by a service called Modem FastDormancy Monitor Service (the service resides on the phone but problem invoking it is in the towers). Coincidentally the aforementioned update to the towers was applied just days ago and today is the first day that I haven't needed to force 4G without LTE in order to prevent missed calls. This settings force also has battery conservation application and may help maintain more reliable service when when mobile in some instances.

Tweak the build.prop to use WCDMA only. Don't have the value off hand...you're a 3 year xda member...longer than me...you should be able to find it. Might have to do a factory reset to make that setting stick. Titanium Backup Pro batch comes in handy for doing build.prop mods.
Cleaning up old threads and found this. Late though it is, why not add; If you use Nova Launcher you can create a shortcut to an "Activity" named "Phone Info" which invokes the same settings panel.

Turn location settings on and off then go I to Google settings app and turn location off then back on. Then on the weather settings select detect my location and reboot the phone.
When the phone comes back on you'll have a box asking to allow location settings, press accept and it should work.

I'm going to use chronicaust's directions for the download booster, except I changed the download booster to the mobile hotspot, since the directions for the shortcut are nearly identical.
TO GET THE QUICKSETTINGS TILE: ROOT ACCESS IS REQUIRED.
1. Download SQlite editor version 2.1. It's 2.99 in the playstore, unless you obtain it free from somewhere else.
2. In apps, find settings storage > settings.db > system
3. Search for notification
4. Choose Notification_Panel_Active_App_List (there are a few VERY similar ones, make sure its the right one.
5. Add WiFiHotspot; Make sure you don't forget that semicolon.
6. Reboot
Mine was a little buggy, so I deleted the shortcut.
Thanks for the response. I ended up using Power toggles app.
Add widget to home screen.
Modify widget by clicking add.
Add WiFi hotspot item.
Click done in upper left corner.

I changed build.prop:
ro.product.name=kltexx
ro.product.device=klte
The last tile on the becomes "Wi-Fi hotspot" (next to Toolbox).
The pull down also changed: now it has "S Finder" and "Quick Connect". 4G LTE icon also changed to 4G and 4G changed to H+.
Then for some reason, even I remove AT&T's Mobile Hotspot app by Titanium Backup Pro, after a factory reset the icon comes back in Apps, without AT&T's provision though.

Nexus 6. Stock, this phone is not rooted.
This phone came directly from Motorola and they were sent directly from China I believe.
So these ones are not from any T-Mobile, att or any other carrier local store. I believe that sprint have this issue.
Check video

Problem solved, as last resource I had to do a factory reset. It fixed the problem.

The heads up notification is in the SDK and has to be disabled/enabled by the developer (in this case Google for the Phone app). There is currently no option to turn the heads up notifications on/off anywhere in settings or the Phone settings. You could try a factory reset on the phone, and see if that fixes it.
If you are rooted, I would not factory reset. I would get the phone app from XDA, remove it from the phone, and install it as a system app and see if that fixes it.
Otherwise, the only possible way I know of is through a custom ROM (you would need to be rooted). I know for a fact that Pure ROM has a setting to turn heads up notifications on/off, don't know if any others have the option.
I'm on Sprint, so I had to do the "Settings - > More - > Cellular Networks - > Preferred Network Type " and switch to 3G. It's a pain, but this is the only fix that works for me / until Sprint fixes the network CFSB issue.
