Quick video guide. It works! Its no more dangerous than SBFing the DX. I know alot of people were trying to freak you out about it, but if youve ever sbfd this wont be easy to screw up.

I just got my bionic today and I was browsing through the forums and couldn't find any sbf files. If I were to root my phone and get rid of all bloat, how could I get it back to stock in case of a warranty exchange? I've been a DROID X user for a very long time and there was always an sbf method of getting back to stock and have it like you just bought it. I don't want to root my phone unless there's a way to get back to stock.
Thanks

There are a few ways to root/unroot your device. To get it back to stock I would recommend using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262540
Using the Fastboot Images ZIP (system.img, boot.img) is the safest way imo. This will restore the phone to factory default (pre .893)
Cheers,
Java
Thank you my friend. Wow, shocked that Motorola is no longer using sbf files. This will work. I'm on 893 that's what my phone came preinstalled with.

Hey guys I haven't updated my.phone to 902 yet because of fact I accidentally deleted my stock 901 backup meaning I'll have to flash to update...my problem is last time I tried flashing, it alway it always failed, but it always got to different percentages everytime
Is there a total noob fail proof way of flashing so I don't brick?

Flashing through CWR or RSDlite? I did it with RSDlite (this wipes everything) and it failed until I got RSDlite 5.6, then it worked great.
RSDlite but mines v5.5

Go grab 5.6 bro. And make sure you're using the right FXZ.
And there's definitely no failsafe to flashing. All I can say is plug the usb into a back usb port as front ones aren't as reliable. If it gets disconnected even for a second during the flash, you could have a very expensive paperweight... permanently
R3l3as3DRoot and For3v3r root can take you back to stock 886.

I have a bionic that i system updated to 5.9.902 a couple days after i got it. Then i made the mistake of coming here and messing up my phone because i have no idea what I'm doing
I installed safestrap and did the whole noob step by step guide. Installed eclipse and a couple other roms. For some reason i wiped my internal and external storage. I have no backups of anything.
I've tried releasedroot, petes, rds lite with the 902 xml. I got stuck all the time with what seemed to be a driver issue.
I just want to return this thing to stock and stop messing with it
As of now when I press power i go straight to ap fast boot flash failure screen. I press power to power off and hold vol up and down to boot into recovery but just pick the normal boot option. Phone then boots into what seems to be my stock 902. I dont know if im rooted anymore.
If i could rid my phone of this flash failure and safestrap, i would be stupid happy
Anyone out there willing to help a total noob? If any more info is needed I'd be happy to provide

What error did you receive using rsdlite?
When you go into your phone settings..can you verify your on 902?
I'm at work now but it was some sort of usb failure. It got stuck on 1/22 mbm something.
Yes as of right now im on 902.
Is there a tutorial on how to completely remove usb drivers? Even though rsdlite says I'm connected, I don't see my phone drivers in device manager. That's where I think I'm going wrong but not really sure.

I come from an eris phone where you wipe and flash roms all day long. Well I got my bionic from android market wiped and flashed 2.2 eclipse using rom manager and laptop with no issues using rsdlite. From what I have read here I should not have been able to do this, no bootstrap or safestrap. Is it possible I have an unlocked bootloader?

This makes me wonder if ROM Manager has actually managed to include some Bootstrap-like functionality to accommodate locked bootloader devices.
If you wanted to truly test if your bootloader were unlocked, you could go manually download CWM recovery for the Bionic and then, when booted into Fastboot mode, use fastboot.exe to see if you can invoke the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img. At worst case, you have a bricked Bionic and have to RSD Lite it back to normal. Otherwise you could get access denied. At best case it works out.
Also, Bionics aren't sold via the Android Market. Where did you actually get it from?
RSD Lite shouldn't ever be a problem on any Motorola device. All Moto devices are made to respond to RSD Lite assuming you have the correct SBF or FXZ fie.
Sorry got bionic from Android Central

Good ol Droid Eris. I loved that thing, but the manufacturing sucked and I went through 6 of them before Verizon finally gave me a Droid 2 as a replacement. But the Roms, I haven't had an Android like it since. I got kind of spoiled on Roms and went through flash withdrawal after it. From my understanding, many former Eris owners also went through withdrawal since our newer ones had no where close to that much development. I may end up buying a used one just to flash around with. I swear I had my old one running better than most people's Droid 2s thanks to xda.

I rooted my phone a while ago using Motofail and would like to update my phone so I can put the ICS update on it that was pushed out the other day. I am kinda a noob to hacking my phone and would really like some help with this. I have found the Motofail for ICS for once I install ICS.

Just download and install all parts of House of Bionic and follow the on-screen instructions. In order to un-root you need to choose option 2 then option 2 again. Check out the FAQ if you have trouble with ADB. Read the post very carefully and probably more than once but it is actually very simple.

Thanks Samuri for this script, I have been telling everyone about it. Cheers!
?
does anyone know if the apps that hide the root will work or do I have to completely unroot the phone?
rooting the phone
as you most likely know motofail will root the phone, settings applications unknown sources, development usb debugging i also check leave screen on, then when usb is plugged in make sure charge only, have a good charge also on yer battery, if in 7 right click on motofail run as admin
i also like to have wifi already going and download root checker, this verifies, sometimes, dunno why, when i go to one rom or another i have to use one version of motofail or another version of it, also motooneclick worked for me also,
either way that'll get your phone rooted, i haven't done anything with ics, i did see a version of motofail for rooting ics afterwards
i'm on eclipse 2.2 which i just love, need anything else gimme hollar, skype allen-sec or yahoo allensecz
learning the bionic and this myself, been at it for about a month, learned a lot, just don't have 3g flowing yet,
so if you got that going on yours, hey gimme hollar
sincerely, mrbeav
Bare with please
I asked in a different thread but I got some things answered but not all exactly.
I keep hearing if I want to unroot my Bionic I need to use all the HoB files or FXZ. I will explain why I'm still a little confused.
I used Razrs Edge to root my bionic earlier this week after the OTA ICS update. Worked in like 3 minutes and put safestrap v3.05 on and made a backup of my stock OS. I want to restore and then remove safestrap but I'm confused on how to unroot. Since all the unroot methods seem to be based around HoB or motofail or using the Pete's files (which the links never seem to work)
What i need/want answered is how do I unroot it if I used the Razrs Edge method of rooting? With one of the methods i mentioned above work? If so, which one please and will i just follow the same method?
My reasoning is when/if JB OTA comes out I want to unroot to get it so i figured since I'm involved now, I might as well learn how to unroot it now and get it over with.
Thanks
Eric
You may want to try OTA Rootkeeper. You can find it on Google Play.

I did this and it worked!
I just started using SuperSU, which has a clean up root option. Seems pretty slick so far.
