Hello all.
I am trying to make the media control buttons work like this guy did.
Google search for "wisebread android" you will see the link I mean.
He took a 4 pole headset plug and bridged the 4th and 3rd conductors with different valued resistors.
I have tried to replicate that on the LG Revolution. All i get is pause/play.
It doesn't seem to rewind or fastforward.
From 0-855(ish) ohms. it will always activate play/pause.
had anyone else tried this? I get the same thing on the Droid 2 (A955).
You can experiment with a spare Camcorder cable and cut off RCA Jack from an RCA extension cable or cut off female-female cable.
Left is White
Right is Yellow
Mic is Red
No one has tried this ?
Nothing.?

So I picked up an HTC 3 button headset. It has forward, back, and play. Unfortunately, both beyondpod, stock music and Google play music respond to the headset as play or pause for all 3 buttons. I was about to close the case on this. I was going to write it off as not having the capability in hardware.
This was until I was in a phone call, and less forward or back to drop the call. To my surprise, it didn't.
Maybe this handset just needs some code to work.

I had the same issue. but can not tell what's triggering it. Together with charging playing music and running a navigation app (google nav does not work in my location) I run yandex maps to see traffic jams. So it could be maybe one of the apps hanging the phone. I'm pretty sure I was on one of CM 6 versions. Or it could be overheating.
Do not see it lately on 6.1 N1 stable. for about 2 to 3 month its stable.
Out of curiosity, how many shiny bands (broken by black indentations) are on the plug that you're inserting into the device? The Nexus (and many modern smart phones + media devices) are designed for a 4-banded plug to accommodate remote functions (play/pause, volume up/down, etc). Standard audio cables only have three contacts on the plug. If the three-contact plug isn't sitting just right and shorts out some of the contacts inside the phone, all sorts of screwy things can happen - and I suspect this is what you are experiencing.
So I have looked everywhere and havent really found the answer im looking for. First of all my headphones, also others i have tried including an aux cable dont seem to fit into the nook color headphone jack all the way. This is causing problems hearing sound in both ears, or getting any sound at all. I have to fidget to get it just right. Does anyone have any solution or similar problems? A specific pair that work?

It isn't broken. Just stick the headphone jack in and when it gets stuck just push on it until it goes in
My nook is like that and doing what I stated above will not break your nook or headphones

really?
i found mine to be a bit hard to plug in and unplug but im kind of use to it now, i just thought all nooks were like that
It requires a bit more force to insert and remove than other devices I have, but that also makes them harder to disconnect by accident. /shrug
They do work fine if you insert them all the way rather than stopping at the first click, as the tip slides past the ring contact, which may be what the OP is doing.
Wow... im a crackhead lol. Anyways thanks guys, sorry for wasting your time.

lol no problem it was a valid question and i was wondering the same thing when i first got my nook color, i just accidentally ran into the solution like 1 hour later lol
Yes, the headphone jack is extremely tight on the NC. I feel like I am going to break something every time I am plugging in the headphones. I am sure that they inserted completely. However, out of 5 "plug in and out" cycles, only 1 will yield the full spectrum of the frequencies for me. Specifically, there is no bass, all mids and highs. I have to plug and unplug few times to get sound with bass+the rest. I am not complaining that the bass is weak, there is simply no bass at all until you get a right "fit". I tried 5 different headphones (ranging from cheap iPod headphones to UE TripleFi 10) and different sources (e.g., Pandora, music player, etc), and the result was always the same.
Anybody else with this problem (i.e., complete lack of bass until you find the right "fit")?
3.5mm TRS audio jacks have three contacts, one each for the Right and Left stereo channels and one for ground. A channel is either present or absent. Any bass issues you are experiencing are not due to the jack; it simply is not wired that way.

"However, out of 5 "plug in and out" cycles, only 1 will yield the full spectrum of the frequencies for me. "
I am certainly experiencing this issue as well. I've found a way to reproduce it. If you push the plug in fast enough all the way, you can get the plug to produce full sound, but if you push it half way in and wait for NC to change the sound from speakers to headphones you'll be missing some spectrum, after you're hearing broken sound coming out of your headphones, even if you completely push in the rest of the jack, the final results will be missing some spectrum. So the only way to get complete sound is to push the plug in before the NC switches to the headphone output.
Wonder what a pair of the little powered external speakers would sound like?
So I gather there's at least two different "standards" out there for headsets with 3.5 mm plugs, which all use 4 pins (3 rings + the tip of the plug), but with different pin outs - let's call them 'iPhone style' and 'Nokia style'.
Which one does the Legend use? Is there a list somewhere of headsets that are known to be working 100%?
TIA
From what I'm aware of I don't know of any third party wired headsets that allow the same full functionality of the HTC supplied ones.
I'm pretty sure all iPhone compatible headsets will work for audio / mic / call answer button, however I don't think volume control works (on headsets equipped with it).

As I looked for a headset with a 90° plug, I found the Nokia HS-125 wired HS.
I ordered and found out - not working. I opened the little plasticcase and swapped
those two wires (Pin 3&4).
Now its working perfectly and its possible to play/pause and select the next track (double press). And call functions also work.
What I did is that I bought the "cheap headset" and 3,5mm jack earphones from sonyericsson (I was able to buy those earphones without the SE adaptor...)
Now I have a great sound plus the ability to play/pause and it only cost me around 17 EUR (with shipping) try and search some local e-shops I'm sure you'll find something!
My Iphone headphones are fully functional as are my old hero ones
Thanks guys, looks like iPhone-compatible ones are worth a try.

Got mine from Gatwick airport and the clarity is awesome.Made for the iphone 4 but is pretty damn great on the legend
The Marshall Minor headset is also compatible (but no volume adjustment) - and both sound and build quality are tremendous. I'm a bit puzzled about the mic button functions though. Using my Legend's stock music player, all I can do is play/pause the music, pressing the Marshall's mic button once. If I press it twice, the phone starts calling the last-dialled number. If I press and hold the button, nothing happens. Using Poweramp, one press means play/pause, press and hold means skip forward. Double press does nothing but play-then-pause, i.e.no auto-dial function. Using Mortplayer beta, one press means play/pause, two means skip forward, three means skip backwards. No press-and-hold and no auto-dial. I'd like to have the Mortplayer functionality as well as the auto-dial function. Anyone knows a music app that does this, or another workaround?

Anyone have luck controlling volume with headphones? Which ones are you using?
I haven't had any luck too. Only the pause feature works
Using the MotoBuds wireless Bluetooth headphones. Controls track selection..volume..calls etc.

I tried the Samsung branded headphones from the S4 with no luck. I tried another pair of headphones that only have a pause / play / answer button. They didn't work to control pausing or answering the phone.
The wife may have a set of Apple headphones somewhere. I'll need to find where she put them and try them out.
I just ordered some Motorola ear buds online. Should be here next week I'll let you know how they work.
UPDATE: I just tried the Motorola earbuds. They work the same as the apple ones. However they don't have volume control on the headphones themselves so not much of a solution.

JayBird Bluebuds bluetooth work perfectly! All functions, volume, next track, pause, google voice etc. Little pricey tho.

I just bought and tried out the Jays a-Jays five for android and only the middle button works.
Based on this and what other people said it looks like the only way to get 3 button functionality is via Bluetooth
I haven't really encountered anything like this. Not that I really try too hard to do so.
I've had the Motorola S11-Flex HD headphones for a while.
The good:
5-ish hours of battery life & very quick charging.
Pause; forward; back; vol up; and vol down all seem to work well. Forward and back require double and triple taps on the pause button... a little awkward while running.
I've heard no complaints taking calls on them either.
I find them pretty comfortable, with your ears holding the weight... might not combine with glasses/sunglasses/hat.
Seem reasonably durable, being chucked in a gym bag with shoes, lock, weight belt, etc.
The bad:
Not very loud. The out-of-the-box "ear cushions" are very thin, letting a lot of outside noise in. In a way, I like this. Running in the city, and I can still catch ambient noise like cars trying to run me over. Also, it's easy to have a conversation with someone without removing some heavy isolation buds first. Still, during podcasts or movie dialog in loud environments, they can be frustratingly quiet.
First set died after a month, but Moto customer service fixed me up with a warranty replacement.
Not the cheapest... amazon is slinging them for $65 at the moment. I paid $90.
I am using BOSE bt headphones and they were great
After searching the webs and finally even talking to some developers at Motorola I have come to this conclusion.
Best Moto headset
If you want in ear with best sound, these beats Bose on sound and price any day of the week. Also includes 3-button microphone "100% Made for Android"..

Tailor your headset button actions
If you want to tailor the 'clicks' on your headset using your Moto, you can download this App, and tailor 1-2-3-4-5 clicks to do what you want. Brilliant and very well functioning and it is Free.

I'm using some Bluetooth beyond the ear Motorola headphones. Everything works perfect on them. They were on sale on Newegg for about $30 a while back.

Hello.
In the web page: http://apphelp.degausslabs.com/phones/ The Droid Turbo "No support for 3 button headsets"
I ordered the "pocket" model.
I inform how "Pocket" works in my MotoMaxx aka Droid Turbo.
I'm using the Lg Infinim's and every feature works, from volume control to activating goggle voice
Cable Headphones w/control

I'm think the real challenge its with Cable Headphones w/control, not the BT
Oh well I also have a set of wired klipsche. That will control basic functions but, you have to download the klipsche aps
Do the above DegaussLabs wired earphones work with the turbo? All 3 buttons?
Droid Turbo/MotoMaxx aren't compatible with any 3 buttons wired headset.

Nop, don't work....Hardware incompatibility
My phone seems to have touchy connection with the 3.5mm Jack. When I plug it in in my truck it won't hold a connection. If I'm using headphones when I bump the phone or set it down it pauses and if I tap the back near the top again it'll play. Sometimes with the cord in Google Now opens when the back gets tapped. I hear a small rattle around the area too. Not sure if it's related. Is this some stupid accessibility feature? Help? I just got this phone yesterday

I know this thread is kind of old but did you ever get this issue figured out? I'm experiencing the same thing. I even disabled the Google search app hoping it would fix it, and the Google voice search prompt no longer pops up, but it still pauses and skips tracks with any light bump (at least while using Spotify).
It's very annoying and even kind of dangerous that I have to keep messing with it while I drive. Thanks for your time.

It is very annoying and no I really haven't found a solution. I now only use headphones when I'm sitting still. I have found that some cords seem not to be effected by this problem but I'm not sure why. I have tried different brands and styles to no avail. The only thing I ever read about this was that on M8s people put rubber o- rings on their headphone jacks because it was shorting on the metal housing. Obviously not the issue here because the 626s is plastic, but perhaps worth a try? Let me know if you find a solution
I can tell you I don't have this issue. I am using some headphones that came with my LG 8 years ago lol and an aux from the dollar store. Haven't tried anything else.
I have some trouble with my headphone/aux port too, but not quite like what you all are describing. I'm also using one of the AdvancedStock images from Sandix, so I wasn't certain if that had something to do with it (although I doubted it). I have a cheap but sturdy aux cable in my car that connects to my phone (this cable worked flawlessly with my last phone). When I plug it in, the phone recognizes a cable is plugged in, displays the right icon in the notification bar on the top and the sound works properly (going to the car) for a few seconds. During this time I hear some clicks passed through from the phone. After a few seconds the clicks stop and the phone changes back to as if no cable is plugged in (no icon, sound goes out phone speakers). I then have to unplug the cable and re-plug it back in to repeat the process. Finally after 2-4 tries it sticks and the aux cable stays working. At no point is the connection touchy; in that if I move the phone, shake the cable, whatever, the connection stays the same. I recently learned if I plug the cable in slowly, the phone things I have a headset with a microphone plugged in (this is not that kind of cable; it does not have the third microphone connection). It still does the clicks thing, but when it stops, the aux connection is still working fine, every time. I have not tried it with a normal set of headphones/earbuds yet or an actual earbud-with-mic set.
Noticed with case seems to not do it as much. With mine I have to twist cable to get it to work. There seems to be certain spots that it stays playing but sometimes finicky
