Do not extract the .zip file,
But to use it just copy and paste it in the /system/media folder using Root Explorer.
If you don't have Root Explorer then make a new folder on the root of your SD card and call it "system" then make a subfolder within that folder called "media" then place the bootanimation.zip in the media folder,
Go into Terminal Emulator and type this while pressing enter after each line,
su
cp /mnt/sdcard/system / -rf
Then exit and restart your phone,
The Beats Audio boot animation should now show up.
Hey. First thanks for the bootanimation Now my own Beats by Dr. Dre theme is prefect!
But I'm having some problems, i don't know if it's me or everybody has the same problem. Before i installed bootanimation I've watched the video on YouTube where the phone is Sensation and the boot was blazing fast. How ever when it's booting on my HD2 NexusHD2 the animation is really slow, so I'm wondering if that's normal because HD2 isn't that power full as the Sensation?
Thanks for the answer.
Cheers.

Ok, thanks for the fast response.
How do I revert back to my old boot screen? I tried just deleting the .zip from my SD card again but it didn't work. The animation is super choppy and slow and doesn't look nice at all
I'm new to the terminal emulator and busybox and just installed both on my phone after discovering this topic, so I have no clue what commands I possibly need to use to get my old boot screen back
thanks beforehand
can some1 help me? I cant get it to work on my nand rom
EDIT: Nvm Solved it myself.
Some roms use System/customize/Resource instead.

Suggestion to solve Slow animation: Increase framerate?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/ said:
---------The desc.txt file--------
This file defines how the images in the folder(s) are displayed during the boot animation, in the following format:
Width Height Frame-rate
p Loop Pause Folder1
p Loop Pause Folder2
An example of a desc.txt file is:
480 800 30
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1
As you can see, in the first line, 480 and 800 define the width and height of the boot animation in pixels for this example. This must be the same as the screen resolution of your device for the boot animation to properly play in full screen. 30 is the frame rate in fps (frames per second) i.e. number of images to display per second.
The second and third lines have a same format, start with p, which stands for a part of the animation and end in part0 or part1, which denotes the folder in which the images for that part are present.
The number after āpā defines how many times this part will loop (repeat playback) before switching to the next part (if present). Specifying 0 would make the part loop indefinitely till the phone has fully booted.
The next number is for the pause, and is expressed in the number of frames, which can be translated into time by dividing it by the frame rate. A pause of 15 for example, would mean pausing for the time it takes 15 frames to play and since the frame rate is 30 frames per second, 15 frames would take half a second.
Translating all of this in case of the above example, the boot animation will play at a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels, at a frame rate of 30 fps, starting with the contents of part0 folder and after playing them in one loop, switching to contents of part1 folder and playing them continuously till the device fully boots.

Our Desc.txt file reads
540 960 15<------framerate?
p 1 1 android
p 1 1 beats
And the framerate is 15 frames/sec? Can anyone maybe increase it to 20 or 25.
Ps. Can anyone remove the hTc quietly brilliant from the animation? Just the Beats would be enough.

The BEATS by Dr. Dre is based on HTC Sensation XE which got a 768MB RAM.
It will work well with devices having 768MB or more of RAM. The HTC HD2 has only 448MB of RAM so the animation is little bit sluggish.
Always remember to keep a backup of your current boot animation, before jumping on to replace with a new one.
Be safe by using a boot animation changer than a manual replacement method (root explorer, adb, Terminal Emulator etc)
I recommend you to use Root Toolbox PRO. It's just an awesome app & got all the features you want (backup, restore, import) and it's easy to use.
Since MIUI is a highly customizable Rom, you can change the boot animation from the customize theme option.
If anyone require any specific boot animation, i will send you the link.........

DISCLAIMER: Any modification to your phone is done at your own risk. I am not responsible for any problems you MIGHT incur by applying these bootanimations.
Also, I have only made/tested these on my Captivate running Cogniton 2.2 Beta 9. I can not guarantee they will work on other phones/ROMs.
Since Designgears has finally released a version of Cognition 2.2 with Voodoo and Boot Animation support, I've been having a little fun making a few. I thought it might be a good idea to make a thread specifically for Captivates, since this hasn't always been easy for us Cappy users to have custom boot animations!
I figure this would be a good thread for everyone to post their bootanimations, and get help on how to make them work.
If you post one that you did, please try and make a GIF of the animation as well. Even though it may display differently on the phone, it would give you an idea of what it looks like.
These bootanimation.zip files need to go into /system/media. I use Root explorer to just copy them from my SD card to that location.

I actually used this tutorial to get started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623960
I had used this kernel that supports the bootanimation.zip files first, but couldn't get it to work until I installed DG's beta 9 Cog 2.2.
It just seemed to work then.
Take note, if you look at some of the ones I posted, my part0 folder is empty on some. It doesn't seem to need anything in there, since the instructions in the desc.txt file tell it not to loop, so it goes right to the part1 folder. That is where all of your images go.
If people still seem to have questions, and maybe don't get that tutorial I posted, then perhaps I'll add a simple quick tutorial at the beginning of this thread. Bear in mind that I am using old school software (Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation shop), so you will have to adjust accordingly if you use newer stuff.
Anyway, just added two more!
I like "Android Basic". It's simple. I like that.

Since my day job is video production, this seemed like a fun and natural extension. Plus, it gives me a chance to work on my After Effects and animation skillz.
If anyone has any ideas or concepts they would like to see for a boot animation, I'm all ears... err, eyes. I'll probably try to make a new one each time a Cognition ROM rolls out, as that is my ROM du jour.
Thanks again!

Thanks! I built that using Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, and a couple third-party plug-in packages I use. AE is probably a little more coin than you want to drop for something like this, but hey--never hurts
I can build a "non-beta-branded" version--no problem. That way this one can live on if the rest I build suck As mentioned, I'll probably roll a new one out every time an updated ROM drops, though at the rate they seem to be coming, I'll have bloody stumps of fingers in just days
Anything else you'd like to see in that text line instead of the "beta9" part?

UPDATE: Stock systemui.apk uploaded. Flash to remove animations and have stock status bar returned.
[MOD][EF02] Spinning Eye Animated Status Bar: a baseline test
Let me take a minute to explain exactly what it is I'm doing:
One of the major issues that I noticed right away with these status bar images is the fact that they're not modular in regards to the end users; rather, they are another method of themeing that are applied to an apk. What this means, and what this is relevant to, is that they're not easily ported between themes.
A for instance: user is running marcusant v7 rom, which is themed nearly entirely red and black. But this user likes the spinning eye animation I uploaded, which uses the stock systemui.apk (green and black). Obviously the status bar won't match the rest of the theme.
So at this point, there's only two reasonable choices: the author of the animation has to theme systemui.apk with marcusants theme (remember, we can't just modify v7s systemui.apk since its already themed, and thus won't compile), or marcusant has to incorporate the animation himself and release it as an addon.
Ultimately, this restricts the end users choices. Because its unreasonable to expect either the animation author or the themer/dev to incorporate every possible choice. In addition, the common xda end user is unable and unwilling to decompile, theme, and compile the apk themselves (let's face it: it's tedious work if you don't know what you're doing). But in the name of choice and customization, the end user should be able to have any animation/theme combo he/she desires.
So this is an attempt to standardize a new, animation friendly systemui.apk. The objective is to have ALL themers and devs use this new apk in place of the stock one. Obviously, it needs to compile correctly (which it currently does) so that they can theme it. It also needs to incorporate an effective and easy way for the end user to add any released animation they want.
The method I came up with is this:
1. The themer/dev packs their themed systemui.apk in a flashable .zip and releases it along side their theme/ROM.
2. Animation author doesn't need to do anything other than make sure their animation frame names comply with the standard.
3. End user downloads animation of their choice, and the systemui.apk flashable from their theme/ROM of choice. Opening up both archives side by side, all it will take is a drag and drop of 4 components.
I know compliance is a tough thing to sell and get everyone on board with, especially when it involves an extra step or two, but themers/devs should look at the compliance objectively: the vast majority of effort involved is done by the end user. The only thing a themer/dev would need to do is post a simple systemui.apk flashable. By me releasing a master copy, any other effort on the themer/dev side should be eliminated.
So here's where we stand: master copy decompiles/compiles and flashes correctly, so its ready to theme. However one user attempted the animation method (drag and drop) and it broke.
I think what broke it is the fact that there's no pulldown_animxxx.png's in the original zip; thus, adding a new element rather than simply replacing one causes the apk to fail (I *think* its because the pngs need referenced in public.xml, which happens automatically when an apk is compiled; the purpose of this project however is to enable the end user to effectively avoid decompiling/compiling)
The only solution that comes to mind is adding "placeholder" pngs of a small size (~1kb) to the master apk, but not reference them in pulldown.xml so that it still retains the stock sytemui.apk appearance and functionality. I don't think this will prevent the .apk from decompiling/compiling correctly (meaning it should be themeing ready), however this seems to be a very brutish solution, and not an elegant one as I would like it to be.
Anyone with any thoughts, suggestions, or questions about this, feel free to post here or PM me.
More info and current download [BROKEN]:
***caution! May not work! If it doesn't, systemui.apk will FC and you'll need to flash either another animation or the stock status bar in the OP!***
Instructions:
Download here http://www.mediafire.com/?te9qc780gi6mou5
Open .zip up in 7zip (or winRar), then navigate to /system/app and open systemui.apk
Then in another window, do the same steps to open systemui.apk from the animation .zip in the OP (or another one that you might have for GB)
With the windows side by side, you'll need to drag and drop 4 items from the animated systemui to the on you just downloaded, placing them in the same folders where you are dragging from. Make sure to hit "yes" to replace files:
1. Pulldown.xml in /drawable
2. All the animation frames in /drawable-hdpi (should be named pulldown_animxxx.png or something)
3. Shade_bg.png in /drawable-hdpi
4. Status_bar_tracking.xml in /layout
Back out of all the windows. If you did this in winrar, make sure you confirm to update the original archive when you close the window that has systemui.apk open
Flash! And let me know if it works!
NOTE: if it doesn't work, try deleting the corresponding files you are replacing first, then dragging the ones from the animation over. PLEASE let me know if you had to do this, but try the other method first.
HEY! WHAT IS THIS?
This is a modified stock systemui.apk that contains a modified status_bar_tracking.xml and has pulldown.xml added. It does not have an animation in it. Rather, it is an attempt at making a standard systemui.apk for themers and devs to use in order to make pulldown animations more portable between themes.
If this phase of testing goes well, ill post complete details in the OP.
Other findings from my experimentation. Just trying to see how involved we can make this.
squshy 7 said:
ok so after some quick testing, it appears that the number of frames for animations are limited by the number of images in drawable-hdpi, not the number of frames listed in pulldown.xml nor the sum total size (in kB) of frames. Reasoning:
Spinning eye animation consisted of 30 frames spinning in one direction, then 28 frames spinning in the opposite direction. The second set of 28 were simply duplicates of frames 2 through 29, renamed to be 31 through 58. pulldown.xml was written simply as frames 1 though 58, with each frame at 33ms intervals. This configuration caused SystemUI.apk to FC upon flashing. Logcat dump indicates error "bitmap too large for VM allowance" (paraphrased).
In the next configuration of the animation, I removed frames 31 through 58, and edited pulldown.xml to play frames 1 through 30 then 29 through 2, same 33ms interval (which honestly, in the name of efficient developing, should have been my configuration to begin with since the frames were identical and the master set consisted of 30 anyway. but its ok because it helped me discover a limit ). Upon flashing, animation was successful.
As I stated previously, my very first tinkering with this mod was to port the Red Nexus boot animation, which consisted of 49 frames. The size of each picture, and the sum size of all pictures, was MUCH greater than my initial Spinning Eye animation which FCed, so size should be considered irrelevant (except when thinking about performance; the status bar obviously became very laggy).
So, what does this tell us? We know that picture filesize shouldn't matter (can't exceed system partition size obviously), there doesn't appear to be a limit on the number of frame references in pulldown.xml, and that the limit exists in the number of unique frames created in drawable-hdpi.
As I said, I know 49 images will work, and that at 58 it's broken, but I haven't had time to increase the number of pictures by increments of 1 to find the exact number. So I'd say keep it under 50 lol. You can, however, repeat frames, seemingly as much as you'd like.

Hello guys,
I need to know if I can do a bootanimation using JPEG images? I have made one that I will like to post here but man PNG files even I have optimize then still at 32mb compressed on zip extension at 216 frames that will have split on 2 folders.
If I can make it on JPEG extension I can make this go to at least 5 to 6mb on size.
Maybe I will have to edit some source of XML file to make this possible as I have read it only works with png files.
Any ideas will be appreciated
Please share files...
Perfect my friend, the file is below as MediaFire
I have founded the animation googling around and I have modify it to enhance the colors to more vivid and added a second folder.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/dl28h997lz3dnwg/bootanimation.zip
If you convert the images from RGB to Indexed, the larger files in the first folder should take up less space. I don't think you will get it down to 5 or 6mb without resizing the images though (maybe 10mb). 200+ 480x800 images are going to take up some space.

Thank you mate, nut I need then on png with good resolution. I will try something and if it work out I post here as I will love good resolution on the images. I already tried the shotdown animation and it worked out perfectly.
If there a soft that I can batch convert from jpe to png please let me know as it will save me at least 30mins on each try I make. Another thing is if anyone can tell me the zip permissions and the notepad inside the zip is ok.
Thanks

I ran several test with different settings and every time I convert back to png the file gets larger even when going from jpg to png. I used a batch conversion and also tried photoshop.
I would recommend doing it all in jpg honestly I cant notice any major difference in quality on my phone (HTC HD2)

I used png in my boot animations but also did jpg just to give people options specially for slower phones smaller is better.
Your "desc" file is ok but I would experiment with the frames per second if you slow it down you can cut the number of frames in half without loosing anything.
(Delete every other frame)
For example my miui vs cyonogenmod animation is 15fps but if I did 30fps like your animation I would need x2 the frames to be smooth.
here is my "desc" file
480 854 15
p 1 0 part0
p 0 0 part1

If you need the batch software pm me.
Jpeg works just fine. Another trick to make the file smaller is to resize the images to half of the screen resolution. Like 240x400 instead of 480x800. That's how I do all of mine.
http://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTEyOTE1MzA3OQ
ok guys I simply did it on JPEG and looks great.
I have add more frames to it since my vibrant did well. is over 230 frames adding up both folders and I have enhance each one of the images for better resolution at JPEG making it look like an actual png file. Took me hrs to optimize the whole animation making it much better from the original one.
The credit goes to the creator which at this moment coulndt find.
Second folder is a continues animation that change android color. (nice)
the biggest deal here is that we get the best JPEG image resolution it can be done and I have optimized to less then 2.1mb on size for slower phones even though it have that many frames.
Please test and let me know
Looks good

This is an experimental lockscreen I made that I would like to hear other users feedback on. It's a decepticon logo normally and when you open one of your 4 apps on the lockscreen it changes to an autobot logo
I say experimental because I think there are only 2 files you really need to change so I made the 2 files that I don't think you need to change one black and one silver lockscreen. I haven't been able to make them show, but if you can, please let me know (it could even open up possibilities on other changing screens)
File has been edited to take out the annoying gray circle when you open an app directly from the lock screen (thanks jmaher)

I wipe cache before I install anything, so I always recommend it

Screenie??
The ring you edit in fusion.apk is the unlocking ring. The ring you see when you tap a shortcut is in the idlescreen_base.apk. its called motion ring. The motion ring just appears over top of the other ring. So both rings are on the screen at the same time when u touch a shortcut. If they are two different images it will look distorted or something cause one will be ontop of the other. Unless the fusion ring is smaller than the motion ring and there isn't any transparent parts in the motion ring so it will completely cover the other one.

these are my instructions from another thread. It's honestly the best I can explain it:
pull out the .m10 files with 7zip and put them in seperate folders
Run m10 editor to decompile them
find the .png and replace with exact same size image with the exact same name
save the file in m10 editor (repacks that folder back into that file
(repeat for the other 3 files)
keep going up folders in 7zip until you're out of the .zip entirely, it'll ask you if you want to save each time you back out past the apk, click yes obviously
move to SD card and flash like all the rest...
*note: I keep 7zip open the entire time from start until putting it on the SD card
it will likely take you tinkering and learning it for yourself. Once you figure it out though it's a freaking breeze

sorry man, I'm not doing requests. It's more of an experiment for the greater knowledge of the community. That ring is both, if you look at the pictures, it changes. I initially tried to do it the other way, but the autobot logo would have had to have been a lot smaller to fit under the deceptacons logo
use my instructions and do it yourself. Once you figure it out, it doesn't take very tong to actually switch, just however much time you put into the image you're using... (I spent about an hour editing just the autobot logo on this one, had to get down to single pixels)

I just rename my image to the name of the ring and replace it in the folder m10 editor creates on the pc, save the file with m10 editor (that you leave open until you're completely finished), which then replace the original m10 I puled from 7zip on my pc and then move that file into the 7zip directory replacing the original
No worries i did see it changes. Legit man thanks.

This is just the beginning, I'm really excited to be contributing to the XDA webpage

The funny thing is that your thread was the reason I got into lock rings to begin with...I had the EVO 3D before my htc one and your lock ring of Akuma was a MUST HAVE!! At the time, I was obsessed with Marvel Vs Capcom 3. Akuma was so bad ass in that game, that I wanted to theme my phone after him. So first I made my own boot animation of his three special. Then I found your thread with the Akuma lock ring and it was a MUST HAVE. Then I changed my unlock noise to an Akuma grunt which I found on zedge and edited.
But its crazy lol both in the business of making lock rings

The ones i used where the Actual PNG files i used int he Lock ring so they showed smaller on the page, the originals were way to big and took up a lot of room.
When you start to organize them it can take a while. plus i didn't actually title them i made the images the download links to save room

Lol I did not, BUT currently... Akuma is my boot animation, that is so awesome, thanks for that, beanstalk is awesome, has a setting where you can add a custom bootanimation. Downloaded it to my dropbox and there is an option to download from your dropbox, lol literally took 30 seconds, what rom are you using right now?

These are just some lock rings I have been working on and would love to share.
Please if you have any request just ask, dont need any donations, this is just fun for me
I have also resized so the lock rings will be between 200x200 and 250x250 so they fit nicely.
This is just the beginning, I'm really excited to be contributing to the XDA webpage
Let me know if anyone has anything they would like to be done, just give me a shoutout

I've never tested them before, but I'm thinking.... how could they, where would the lock icon be on the screen? I use beanstalk, i mean you can try it out and let me know if you like, its not like its going to break anything, the worst that would happen is that it wouldnt show up on your screen
