Anyone know how to remove the voicemail notification in status bar? Its been stuck in my status bar since day one. Everytime I boot my phone it notifies me that i have a voicemail twice and its very annoying. I deleted all my voicemails and its still there. Im also trying to avoid a phone reset.

Try calling from another phone and leaving a new voicemail, then call voicemail and delete. I've had to do that a couple times.
I had that problem with my d1. It was caused by having google voice take over my phones voicemail. If a voicemail got past google voice my phones default voicemail service would pick it up but I couldn't access it without disabling google voice services. For me it wasn't worth the hassle of checking the vm.

I set my voicemail to go to Google Voice, but someone just left me a voicemail, and it never showed up on Google Voice, and that annoying icon is in my notification bar. How do I get rid of it? Also, is there anything special you have to do to set up Google Voice with Verizon/the Bionic?
Clear data on the dialer application.

This sometimes happens when your google voice line is "busy". The caller will be reverted back to your old voicemail. You can disable google voice by dialing *73 and then choosing "my carrier" in the voicemail settings. Then you can dial in to your verizon voicemail. After you get the message the notification will go away and you can reactivate google voice by dialing *71(your google number) and redo the voicemail setting to "google voice".
My co-worker has this happen occasionally.

Let's make this thread dedicated for suggestions on visual voicemail options on the Nexus 5!
With that out of the way, I'd like to point out in case anyone else may have missed it like I think I must have, but not sure if its a 4.4.1 thing, but I noticed that in the stock phone app, when missed calls come in and someone leaves a voicemail, a voicemail icon will appear under their name, along with a play button, which when pressed plays the voicemail along with options to play via loudspeaker, scrubbing, voicemail info, etc.
Before updating to 4.4.1, I was confused on visual voicemail. There's also Google voice you can get on the play store, but I like that VV is in the stock phone app, and straightfoward . I have sprint so apparently there's no extra app like with other carriers.
Any suggestions? Detail on features would be nice

Mine just sends a blank text from 9479 or something like that. Then I have to call the old school way.
Yeah it did that at first. At least that was while on stock 4.4. I just ended up using Google voice, but once I upgraded to 4.4.1, I just noticed today the missed call and visual voicemail with it.
Have you actually called into your regular voicemail and setup through the prompts? Maybe its something that occurred cuz I set up for Google voice, though the stock phone app mentions Google voice nowhete

Are you sure that you entered your google voice number properly in the forwarding options? I had trouble for the first few hours, but called T-mobile and they checked the forwarding settings... now it works properly.
In the call log, you will see only a missed call. The message itself will only show up in your gmail list, and the browser version of google voice... I think.? There is also a stand-alone .apk app for gVoice, available in the play store]

I am sure ebbed it right as it works just fine for calls. But in a 4.1 I believe they added the option to have your vm show up in the call log to listen to only. This worked fine on my n4. And the option is selected in the stand alone app.

I'm having some strange issues with GV on my Z1S. Just switched to T-Mobile last week and immediately made GV my voicemail. I removed my number from the website and re-added it, went through the prompts, and got the forwarding working. Now, I have 2 strange issues:
1. All the time the phantom voicemail icon will appear on my phone. I force quit "phone" (the app) and it goes away, but it'll show up sometime tomorrow or when I reboot my phone or something.
2. The GV voicemail seems to work intermittently (may have some effect on #1). Meaning, someone will call me and tell me they left a message, but the message is no where to be found. My theory is the forwarding didn't kick in, the message went to T-Mobile voicemail, and the phantom icon appeared. However, I can't yet confirm that.
Anyone dealing with either of these issues?
Is there a way to check my T-Mo voicemail after I've set everything up with google voice?
Thanks.
Same issues am having. For number 1 i am going to try and reset my number from the website.
For number 2 I just disabled the option to see vm in the call log.
The Phantom vm is tmobile picking up and then GV taking over so essentially a vm on each. It's annoying

Like the subject says. I have the voicemail notification on the top left hand side and when I use the drop down menu its there, but I can't seem to get rid of it.
How can I get rid of it?
Thanks

Hate to ask a silly question, but:
Have you checked your voicemail yet?
Also, in some VM systems I've used, if you listen long enough or go into an advanced menu, there's sometimes an option to clear the VM indicator on the phone.
Yes sir... That's why I am up in the air. I've even tried to look for the voicemail service to see if I can clear the cache and get it to get away but can't find it.

Try calling yourself and leaving a message. Then go to your voice mail and delete it. It should clear your icon.
I've seen this happen with T-Mobile and a new SIM several times.

My experience with this was I was using something else for voicemail. I use Better Youmail (Youmail) but as I was setting up the phone I got a voice message on the Verizon side before I forwarded over to Youmail to handle vm... I had no messages on Youmail but it was on Verizon side why I had the icon. I had to unforward the Youmail service to get to the Verizon side, delete the message and the icon went away. Then I set the forward back to Youmail.

I had this a few times on tmobile in the past not on this phone?. I use google voice. I rectified the problem by calling tech support, they corrected on their side.
just had the same issue
Clearing the data + cache for everything with the dialer icon fixed it
So I have an unlocked note 8 from samsung that i'm using on Verizon. Had it about a week and just noticed that I have not received any notifications of missed calls or if I have a voice mail message. I'm not talking about visual voice mail, just plain old basic voicemail. There should be a notification along the top that I have a voice mail. I called *86 and I had a bunch of messages but never received a notification.
Is there a setting I missed? I can't find anything for these.
Thanks
You have two options:
One, go to the website, log in, under Products and Services find Blocks, go to Service Blocks and block off visual voice mail and premium visual voicemail. You'll have basic voice mail only and the notifications should start coming to your phone.
Two, forward unanswered calls to Google Voice. You get a great Google app and you get transcribed voice mails, a feature that Verizon charges $2.99 for in "premium" visual voice mail.
Thanks. I called verizon to see if that was it. I asked that specifically and they said they couldn't turn it off visual voice mail. She turned of an ims setting (I don't know which one) and now I have notification back.
Interesting. I just called Verizon and they said because I have an unlocked phone that I also bought from Best Buy the phone didn't come with the Verizon software on it and I won't be able to get any vm notifications as a result.

You have to login to your MyVerizon and disable both visual voicemail and premium visual voicemail . Just like odesskiy said and then it will go old school and send you a msg with the little logo that you have voicemail. Worked perfectly!!! Glad I went unlocked.
Can someone help me and I am on Sprint and tried calling them no help. Just got an unlocked Note 8 and in my notifications window it says 4 new VM dial *86 and it won't let me get rid of it will not go away. I am using You Mail and have never used Sprints VM but I am thinking when I restored my phone from the backup maybe it downloaded something but I don't see any voicemail app I see the voicemail icon up top in the corner and when I pull down my notifications I see this 4 new voicemails dial *86 and I can swipe it to get to a setting which is just about hiding or blocking phone notification and then I see the phone icon. I've gone under apps and advance apps I was at some screen where I saw the *86 in there forgot how I got there but even still I can't get this notification to go away. Samsung had me do a few things also. I don't want to have to reset my phone just for that. But I googled my question and it took me here. I never used Sprint's VVM but do I still need Sprint to block it it's not on my phone unlocked phones don't have it unless I have regular VM somewhere but I can't find it to make this go away from my notification screen. Thanks!
It didn't work for me.

I blocked the " visual voicemail" then when I blocked the "premium visual voicemail" it automatically unblocked the "visual voicemail". So, I tried to block the visual voicemail again and it unblocked the premium visual voicemail. Seems only one can be blocked at a time--in my instance anyway. I didn't get any messages.
Same for me on my note 8 . Just switched from Verizon to Sprint because they had 5 lines unlimited for 100 bucks and 10gig each phone hotspot. Can find regular voicemail icon to put a shortcut on my phone? Been on Sprint tech support but don't see how on this unlocked note 8..still love the phone
Hi, I have the same issue on my unlocked note 8 regarding voicemail notification. I just spoke to a Verizon agent, had her block my premium visual voice mail, call me on another line to leave a voice mail and finally got a notification that I have a missed call and a new voice mail. I hope this helps as a Real Estate agent not having voice mail notification is bad news! I'm beyond grateful to see that notification again.
I have an unlocked Note8 and Verizon. Been missing my voicemail notifications and can't install the verizon voicemail app... with instructions above, I called Verizon Support and asked them to turn off the Visual Voicemail feature I've been paying for the last 10 years because I had a new unlocked phone that doesn't support it... not branded Verizon phone... So, support said they turned the feature off, and to reboot my phone. I rebooted, then got a text saying that Touch ID has been enabled for my phone, then from another phone, I called myself and left a message. I got a notification! And, the notification came with a link to click and install a their voicemail app, the blue one with the recorder icon... not the red one. It does everything I want, shows caller ID, or phone number, and click to play messages... easy delete. Perfect!
