I have an AT&T N1 rooted and running CM 7.0.3. I've looked all over and all I I run into is outdated tutorials/wiki that involve rolling back to FRG33 which does not work for a Gingerbread/rooted N1.
Anyone know a work around or a method to restore my N1 back to stock 2.3.4/GRJ22
BTW if you don't have useful advice and all you can say is "search" please don't reply to this thread TIA
EDIT: Never mind I just rolled back to FRG83 and going to update back to stock Gingerbread

I am looking for suggestions in what I should do before I send my phone in for replacement. It is currently rooted and a replacement is on the way because the top button on my phone stopped working. Should I go back to stock? Has anyone ever had a problem with a rooted phone being turned away? thanks so much for the input. Mike
I would definitely recommend getting it back to stock. Don't bother with a stock recovery, but make sure you're on 2.1 or AT LEAST stock 2.2.
I sent mine in stock 2.1 with a custom recovery and they had no problem fixing it because it was a HARDWARE issue that I didn't cause. They run a test to see if the problem comes from the user.
Ok thanks... If I want to go back to stock I can just flash Update-Passion-Full-FRF91.zip just like i would a rom Right? Thanks Mike

This is probably a question answered a milion times. But my friend has a verizon droid and it has been slow ever since he got the OTA froyo update. He wants to go back to Stock 2.1. His phone is not rooted and he dosent care for it to be. I have flashed tons of samsungs back to stock and finding guides are easy. But for some reason I am having the hardest time finding what I need for this phone. Can someone please tell what I need to get and where to get them. So far I got RSD Lite v4.5.3. Please help. Thank you in advance.
I installed 2.2 froyo early on the captivate...and whenever i go to get a software update OTA it say's it can't connect to the AT&T server's. I want to get a update to my software if there is one out there...somebody please help it's aggravating me.

This doesn't belong in the Development section. It is well known that once you root and install ROM's you will not be able to update over OTA. If you want flash back to stock and use Kies mini to get the update...By the way it's only JH6 which is still Eclair 2.1
I wouldn't know if there are any software update's since i can't update over the air. and i dont wanna go back to stock 2.1 cuz i will loose all of my progress in all of my games that are on my phone.

seriously. read.
2.2 isnt officially out on ATT yet.
if you are running 2.2, then obviously you arent going to get ANY updates from ATT since they are not pushing 2.2 out.
common sense will tell you that if ATT is not providing 2.2 to us, then obviously there wont be any updates since their only update is JH7 which is ECLAIR 2.1-update1
there are about 5.2 million threads in the q/a and general sections that discuss this. please do some reading.
You won't lose your progress in your games if you back up with Titanium Backup, but there is no reason to go back to stock because there are no updates that have anything newer than your Froyo ROM.
as you can see i am a huge noob at this stuff. but to reply to sixstringsg about the titanium backup...how would i use that? cuz it's a app. so if i go back to stock 2.1 that will be deleted, meaning i will have to re-install it and i will still loose my progress.
Install it, and back up all user apps. Then either copy that over to your computer, or your external SD card if you have one, then when you flash back to stock, Root, install Titanium and reinstall through it.

Titanium backup and restore does exactly what it says it does. it will backup and restore apps+data
once on a new rom, you would install titanium backup again and click on RESTORE and it will restore your apps
the apps are saved on your internal SDcard which does not get wiped by merely flashing new rom
Please do some research before posting a new thread, let alone in the wrong section. If you are running 2.2 then you have flashed a rom and know how to search for your answers. It is all there to be read.

Guys,
I really appreciate the wealth of good information here about the Captivate. I do have a quick, specific question I haven't seen answered but perhaps I missed so apologies in advance if I did.
I am on a rooted factory 2.1 phone right now and would like to flash a new ROM (undecided but will probably try a few). I have seen a few mentions that it is advisable (necessary?) to revert to stock before doing this and I am curious if it matters if I revert back to 2.1 or if I can 'revert' to 2.2 and would that be any advantage/disadvantage since it seems to be a temporary thing anyway.
I see both files on mobiletechvideo's site among other places. Would really love to know if there is any difference and if, in fact, I do need to do this step at all.
Thanks.

The only step you'd need to take is to backup your things, and to do a Master Clear. It shouldn't really matter too much actually, so if you can't be bothered, feel free to flash away!
Thanks, venomio.
To follow up, I ended up flashing to 2.1 but using a version that had the 3-button fix (for getting into recovery mode I believe, which my phone could not do). Everything worked pretty much flawlessly getting back to 2.1 and 3-button fix was successful.
Then I flashed to Cognition 4.2.2 and again, everything went perfectly.
So if anyone stumbles across this in their research, go for it.
Ok I got a quick question and the searching I've done really hasn't turned up anything definitive. I've got andromeda 3 right now and a back up from rom manager from when my cappy was stock running 2.2 and just rooted running either possibly onix or speed mod kernel that I made before I went with andromeda and, I also have a stock kernel backup from sgs kernel flasher.... I know I was very paranoid before my first rom flash. My question is if I wanted to go back to stock at some point should I just use clockwork to restore the nandroid I made with rom manager and flash the kernel after with sgs kernel flasher or should I do an odin 1 click to get to stock 2.1 then use mini kies to go back to 2.2. I guess it wasnt too short, really I just wanna know is one way 'safer' than the other to go back to stock if I decided too.

There is a cwm flashable stock image in dev somewhere, I don't have it bookmarked sorry. I always use ODIN to go stock. Doing a nandroid backup wasn't backing up all the files like it should back in the day. Not sure if it is now, but I never relied on it. I haven't used kies in months, no need to do a stock update. But, really, the only reason you would want stock is if you're selling it, warranting it, or something where you need stock on it. AdamOutler is working on heimdal. I think there is stock version of it. But as far as bootloaders go, you're on 2.2, now. ODIN brick is ok. I've had a few. Jig will solve it.
Edit
I guess, to answer your question, ODIN is fine going from any 2.2 rom to stock 2.1. The trouble is going from 2.3 to 2.2 or 2.1. Then the bootloaders change. If something messes up in the process, you're screwed.
Ok thanks that's what I've been trying to figure out, and yeah I have no reason to wanna go stock but its just for future reference, wanted to sell *gasp* or need to have it repaired. Who knows maybe i'll throw my back up at it at some point just to see what happens and see if it really was a full back up and I'll search for what you mentioned. Kies has worked the one time I used it so maybe I'll try that for fun and see if it goes alright again. Really I'm just looking for the fastest way to go back which if it goes alright should be my rom manager back up. Thanks for mentioning the deal with 2.3 roms from the forum threads I've read it seemed kinda risky to make the jump so I've stuck with 2.2 roms so far.
