[Q] warranty phone sending back to htc - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking for suggestions in what I should do before I send my phone in for replacement. It is currently rooted and a replacement is on the way because the top button on my phone stopped working. Should I go back to stock? Has anyone ever had a problem with a rooted phone being turned away? thanks so much for the input. Mike

I would definitely recommend getting it back to stock. Don't bother with a stock recovery, but make sure you're on 2.1 or AT LEAST stock 2.2.
I sent mine in stock 2.1 with a custom recovery and they had no problem fixing it because it was a HARDWARE issue that I didn't cause. They run a test to see if the problem comes from the user.

Ok thanks... If I want to go back to stock I can just flash Update-Passion-Full-FRF91.zip just like i would a rom Right? Thanks Mike

[Q] How to revert back to stock rom?

Hey guys,
I'm currently on FR12 MCR custom rom and I am still facing the random shutdowns where I have to pull the battery out. I think it might be some hardware issue which I'm gonna bring back to the service centre.
How do you flash the phone back to stock rom so that the service people would not know that I'm rooted and void my warranty?

NVFlash / SmartFlash .....
Check out this the threads.
I have a previously rooted rom when I backup using the Clockwork recovery. So I did a wipe and do a restore and reboot the system. Now the screen is stuck at the LG logo with the loading bar.
What can I do?
try this, follow the instructions,

If not the Baseband will help you, try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007825
This will bring you back to Stock 10b on a low level
As in, my phone is currently at the LG loading bar, do I have to wait very long to get it to the main screen?

What have you done with your phone ??
If you want to return to stock, NVFlash it to 1503 10b.. or SmartFlash it to the latest 10b..
The threads is available in the DEV section.
Hi there, I used the Smartflash and flash it to LGP990AT-00-V10b-NEU-XXX-APR-05-2011+0_CP but when I restart the phone, it brings me back to MCR custom roms again.
Any reason?
I tried already, then after the flashing is done, the LG logo now keeps blinking.
What should I do?
Have you tried to use SmartFlash for the Singapore ROM?

Going back in time... Sort of.

Ok I got a quick question and the searching I've done really hasn't turned up anything definitive. I've got andromeda 3 right now and a back up from rom manager from when my cappy was stock running 2.2 and just rooted running either possibly onix or speed mod kernel that I made before I went with andromeda and, I also have a stock kernel backup from sgs kernel flasher.... I know I was very paranoid before my first rom flash. My question is if I wanted to go back to stock at some point should I just use clockwork to restore the nandroid I made with rom manager and flash the kernel after with sgs kernel flasher or should I do an odin 1 click to get to stock 2.1 then use mini kies to go back to 2.2. I guess it wasnt too short, really I just wanna know is one way 'safer' than the other to go back to stock if I decided too.

There is a cwm flashable stock image in dev somewhere, I don't have it bookmarked sorry. I always use ODIN to go stock. Doing a nandroid backup wasn't backing up all the files like it should back in the day. Not sure if it is now, but I never relied on it. I haven't used kies in months, no need to do a stock update. But, really, the only reason you would want stock is if you're selling it, warranting it, or something where you need stock on it. AdamOutler is working on heimdal. I think there is stock version of it. But as far as bootloaders go, you're on 2.2, now. ODIN brick is ok. I've had a few. Jig will solve it.
Edit
I guess, to answer your question, ODIN is fine going from any 2.2 rom to stock 2.1. The trouble is going from 2.3 to 2.2 or 2.1. Then the bootloaders change. If something messes up in the process, you're screwed.
Ok thanks that's what I've been trying to figure out, and yeah I have no reason to wanna go stock but its just for future reference, wanted to sell *gasp* or need to have it repaired. Who knows maybe i'll throw my back up at it at some point just to see what happens and see if it really was a full back up and I'll search for what you mentioned. Kies has worked the one time I used it so maybe I'll try that for fun and see if it goes alright again. Really I'm just looking for the fastest way to go back which if it goes alright should be my rom manager back up. Thanks for mentioning the deal with 2.3 roms from the forum threads I've read it seemed kinda risky to make the jump so I've stuck with 2.2 roms so far.

[Q] Best Way To Prepare Captivate For Warranty Return?

Hey all, I am in need to a new Cappy since mine seems not to have a fully functional external speaker or microphone anymore. I miss calls/alarms/texts/emails all the time and I figure since I'm still under a year since my purchase, it's high time to get a replacement. I am posting this to ask what the latest stock ROM is to flash back to, and preparations to make before sending my Captivate back. I am rooted running a custom Gingerbread ROM and Kernal.
This thread from the Droid Incredible boards helped on the backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732497
..but I need Captivate specific information on the latest official AT&T ROM.
I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233620&highlight=flash+to+stock
..and was wondering if this is the latest released official captivate ROM to flash to, so the folks at AT&T don't realize I was doing anything hokie and detrimental to my warranty.
I love this phone very much, but I would love even more not to be stuck with a lemon. So if any of you have any information on the best way to prepare my Captivate for a journey back to meet it's maker, I would be much obliged.
Thank you all in advance.

no that is not the offical rom . you should flash back to stock fyoyo and do a factory wipe on top of it to clear your personal data .
im resending my phone back to warranty for my external speaker, to prepare my phone is i went back to stock android 2.1 then used samsung kies to upgrade to at&t official froyo 2.2. backed up my pics to my computer and did a factory reset on the phone to erase all the junk in the internal sd card drive.. hope that helps.
Wich froyo did you use? I've used JF6 and JH2 and Kies keeps saying Unregistered Device

I want to go back to stock 2.3.4/GRJ22

I have an AT&T N1 rooted and running CM 7.0.3. I've looked all over and all I I run into is outdated tutorials/wiki that involve rolling back to FRG33 which does not work for a Gingerbread/rooted N1.
Anyone know a work around or a method to restore my N1 back to stock 2.3.4/GRJ22
BTW if you don't have useful advice and all you can say is "search" please don't reply to this thread TIA
EDIT: Never mind I just rolled back to FRG83 and going to update back to stock Gingerbread

[Q] Question regarding camera warranty repair.

Hi all,
I have had the annoying purple camera issue with my M7 and I've decided to send it back for warranty repairs. However, I have also had the phone rooted and flashed it to the OneDroid custom rom. Can I still get a repair? And if so what do I need to do? I assume at least move it back to Stock firmware, but is that enough?
Sorry for the noob question, but I'm pretty clueless.
Thanks in advance.

I have seen rare cases where users sent back their non-stock M7 to HTC for a camera replacement and they repaired at no charge. But returning your phone back to 100% stock is much safer and you'll be sure HTC will not request you to pay for the repair. So imo, revert the phone back to 100% stock before sending it. If not, be ready to pay for that repair just in case...
To return the phone back to stock, follow nkk71's guide linked in my signature below.
If you have any other question regarding camera purple tint, please post in the dedicated thread.
Good luck
