[Q] NFC support - LG Optimus Black

Is Optimus Black support Near Field Communication? I searching for information and found nothing.. It looks like OB is not NFC enabled, i just want to confirm my suggestion...

Yup there's no nfc support
Sent from my LG-P970

Is it hardware matter or software matter?
Is there any possibilities for OB to be able to use NFC with Gingerbread update?

Hardware. Phone need to have nfc chip installed.

there're SD cards that have NFC chip included, so all the devices could have NFC !

yes microSD, sorry...

No, not all devices will work with that microSD card.
This sure sounds convenient, but there are some caveats: the first rule is that neither the back cover nor the microSD card holder should be made out of metal; then secondly, we noticed that due to the tiny antenna coil, scanning could become tricky if the reader has a small sensing area -- you'd need to position your phone at just the right spot; and lastly, the phone needs a special background app to communicate with the NFC circuitry.

And also I believe that it should be support by android.. Since OB doesn't have NFC ship, so i think it's android wasn't built to support NFC...

Android 2.3.3 has NFC support built in, also they release the SDK so modders & devs maybe can integrate this to their roms... maybe

http://www.talkandroid.com/29727-android-2-3-3-sdk-presents-new-nfc-functionality/

is the NFC chip separate from the chipset inside the phone?? or will be built-in??

Separate. Need to be on board as separate chip.

we dont have a nfc chip...
Oh, well I guess that answers that. Thanks for the quick response
The sgs2 has a chip if you want to use it.

NFC support might be able to be hacked on.
We might be able to use the new SGS2 batteries which have an NFC chip in the battery itself (thought I'm not sure if the connection is internal or via BT.) If that fails there are NFC chips that are stickers that can be attached to the backplates of phones that communicate via Bluetooth that will probably work for us and other phones.
see this news item here
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...droid-phones-google-wallet-friendly-20110527/
Although there's a more recent news item that indicates the stickers have some limits vs phone version: http://www.slashgear.com/google-wallet-worries-nfc-stickers-mia-20181114/
Just because we don't have it doesn't mean it won't ever happen, Vibrant FFC mod is a good example.
Also between QR codes/GPS based checkins etc, do you really need NFC? I pay pretty fast using a starbucks card app as is....
Thanks for the info guys.

Hi,
there are already some other XDA threads for NFC ReTag available ;-)
but anyway: my nfc hotel key cards do not have a golden chip (or a magnetic strip) ....the nfc stuff is usually not visible --> chip and antenna enbedded within the plastic ... sure the NFC card could have additional features (like a magnetic stripe or a additional contact chip) ...but this is usually not the nfc stuff ;-)

I just use my smart public transport card
oops! accidentally beamed from my awesome NEXUS S!
work with my university card
and with my transport card too
(France University Nice Sophia Antipolis studen card)
Yeeah, should work with EVERY NFC card/token/sticker ....
with one exception: some security chips (e.g. in passports) change for security reasons the id on every read attempt .....so you canĀ“t use them!
But beside that it will work with NFC enabled lift passes, hotel key cards, company badges, puplic traffic tickets, libary cards, student ids and many more

Searching on Google, I found a site selling something they're referring to as an HTC Vivid Micro USB OTG Host Adapter Cable Connection Kit
They're asking 331 dollars for it.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure any OTG host cable would work if the phone's OTG compatible. When you tested it, did you try it with a keyboard or something else? Hard drives might be problematic if they're not ext 2/3/4.
This phone DOES NOT support USB OTG! It does not have the hardware capability. It has nothing to do with ICS or the Kernel.

[Q] NFC

Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S3 Mini in http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Unloc...e=UTF8&qid=1359994419&sr=8-2&keywords=s3+mini and the specs said that have NFC,
I was wondering, how do i enable this NFC and transfer some files?
Thanks
you may have been misled like a lot of other users who thought they have NFC. Have a look in the ABOUT phone in settings, if it says I8190N then you have it. First phones out don`t seem to have NFC built in. It`s false advertising really. If haven`t got it return it and get NFC version if you really need it. GT-I8190N has just been released end of January. Have look here: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Samsu...anuary_id38935
thanks for your reply, i've read that the antenna may comes with the battery (NFC battery) but i'm not sure if it really works
Yes I read that also. Do u have any options about NFC in settings in your phone. If your phone mentioned says GT-i8190N then your OK. Please let me know thanks.

I have N version with nfc... i heared that battery contains antenna for nfc and that every device has nfc chip inside... so if you cant use it i guess you only need battery with antenna..

No, I don't have any NFC options (looking in all configurations menu)
No one tried using a i8190N battery on a i8190?

Can I get NFC on my gt n7000 note

I don't think so, even if you have the software for it, you will still need the nfc hardware to make it work.

there are supposedly batteries with nfc chips, havent seen them but supposedly
OK thanks for the info guys

If you look inside the service manual, you'll see that NFC option is connected to SIM card reader.
Maybe battery can provide NFC antenna but only antenna. NFC chip needs at least 10 elecrical connections battery have only 3 or 4.

This ofcourse is not really a problem.
Just as there are kits outhere to make a dual-sim option, there is no reason why you couldn't put your simcard inside a simcard reader on the battery and then a cable that goes from the battery into the original simcard reader.
Anyway overhere is Europe NFC is hardly used, and by the time it gets implemented we might be using our Galaxy Note 6....
The back cover can provide as the antennae
