While I am listening to a voice-mail through Visual VoiceMail I am unable to change the volume level while the phone is to my ear and the screen dark.
When I move the phone away from my ear and the screen lights up, I am then able to adjust the volume of the ear-speaker.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Another concern
I also noticed that I cannot change the volume while the phone is to my ear when I am on a call. So whenever the phone screen goes dark, the volume cannot be changed.
Is there a setting to change this?
I noticed this issue too and it bothers me a bit. It seems like this is a small bug that needs to be addressed in an update.
From what I have noticed, you can still change the volume with the phone to your ear while it is dialing, but once the person picks up, you have to pull the phone away from your ear in order to change the volume.

When I am in a call, usually to my other half, I use the jog wheel to adjust the in call volume and the volume level varies depending on the person I speaking to, I adjust it the volume to the lowest setting during the call yet her voice still takes my head off.
Is this a problem with the phone in that the in call volume can't be set below a certain level or does my girlfriend talk freakishly loud.
Either way I am going to lose the hearing in my right ear if there isn't a fix to this. Either gagging her or a ROM update/Registry setting to change.
I have a Vario III.
Anyone else suffer from this?
Some calls for me are Freakishly loud some are barely audible on the highest setting. I sometimes get calls that have background noise that kills me and even on the lowest setting it doesn't help to stop the high pinched squealing. This phone acts weird about the volume the lowest setting is not very quiet like you say.

I have the same, but thats not my phone problem.
or any on screen buttons in the HTC dialer. anyone know how to get rid of it? its supppper annoying
A little more information would be helpful -
1. does this tone happen when you press a button while on a call?
2. if it does - does your other party hear it or only you?
3. what buttons does it happen on touch screen buttons or only the buttons on the front of the phone?
4. is this when you have speaker phone on or a headset or simply using the phone?
5. is it only when you hang up or any button at any time while on a call?
6. do the buttons make normal sounds when you are NOT on a call?
7. have you turned off sound on your buttons - have you at least tried this to see if it kills the problem?

when in the dialer go Menu->Options then Keypad: Off
ahh keypad tones off got rid of the annoying beep lol thanks! wish there was a way i keep the beep for the numeric keypad without the obnoxious beep that came out of the speakerphone part rather than the ear piece when backspace/ call history/ speed dial is pressed
jut realized it still makes the annoying noise when it connects to a call
i found that someone had my exact problem on a wings smartphone. they edited the registires in order to turn it off. i played arround with mine all day but no luck. here is the thread if anyone can apply it to a kaiser id be very greatful!

Ive noticed since I got my X on Monday that randomly my notification/ringer won't make any sounds. Even if I have it set to the loudest possible setting. When I choose the volume thru the volume buttons the sound when raising or lowering doesnt always work either. I have all the settings correct to make sounds. Could this be a Lollipop thing, or is it my X? Has anyone else had this happen?
Yeah, it's been happening with my device aswell.. no idea what could be the reason, either the Lollipop update or some conflicts with moto apps perhaps? Wish I could fix it.
Bumping this in case someone finds a solution!
I found that if I use the volume buttons to change volumes it goes silent. So I just adjust the volume in the settings/sound to change volume.
I've noticed that the volume takes a step down in certain apps and situations, for instance: whenever I get a notification from whatsapp with the screen both on/off, the volume is rock solid.. but whenever a notification comes through facebook messenger with screen off, the volume is ABSOLUTELY low; meanwhile, with the screen on the volume is fine with both of them. SMS, Youtube and Email notifications are fine aswell (for now).
EDIT: well, it happens randomly even when ringing from a phone call even after adjusting from the settings and not the volume rockers. Gosh, Moto should fix this one asap.
If we had a LED I wouldn't care. I have to keep turning my screen on to see if I have a text msg
Hey All,
Does anyone else have an issue while during a phone call if you witch to speakerphone the volume stays low?
It gets barely louder when I flip it off handset volume to speaker. This didn't always happen, maybe over the past month or 2. I've got all updates, I've reset the phone, not sure if it does it in the middle of a call of if it happens right away as I mostly notice it when I set my phone down mid call and flip to speaker ... I crank the volume, the speaker does change but it's very quiet.
At a loss on what to do here, I've gone through all the volume settings while on call and nothing makes it louder when on speaker so unfortunately end up flipping back to in call so I can hear the other person.
I recently received a Pixel 4xl and really like the phone except the call volume is a lot lower than other phones I have had. I have to press it up to my ear to be able to hear the other person. The volume is already set to the max. Is there a way to make this louder? The phone is not rooted, but will root if that is what it takes to fix the volume.
Thanks!
Mine is fine with the headset, but I had a similar bug with my pixel buds and maybe it's related.
While on a call. Press the volume up button, then while the volume slider is on the screen, slide the volume down and then slide it back up. You'll notice it's much louder. You can also try pressing volume up and then slide it down with your finger on the slider, then use the buttons to turn it back up.
I only had to do this once and then in call volume was fine after that.
For some reason it got stuck in some sort of limit where the ceiling wasn't really the ceiling.
Other than that, you can try factory reset. If not that, then it could be some sort of hardware issue.
