For some reason the LG Thrill 4G doesn't have a gps.conf file, at least mine didn't, and caused locks to be very slow, and rarely indoors. I have a fix, at least it worked for me, you will need to be rooted and have a file explorer like Root Explorer-
1.Using Root Explorer navigate to the system/etc folder
2.Select the Menu button on the bottom of the phone, select more and then select "create new file" from the menu, name the new file gps.conf
3.Once you have the new file in the list, in the upper right corner of the Root Exlorer window select the "Mount R/W" to make it say "Mount R/O", this enables you to edit the file.
4.Hold down on gps.conf and select "open in text editor" from the menu.
5.Okay, now you have the blank file open, put this in EXACTLY as it appears:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
SUPL_HOST=supl.google.com
SUPL_PORT=7276
6.Select the menu button and select "save and exit" from the menu. It will automatically save the blank gps.conf file as gps.conf.bak, a backup.
7.Reboot your phone, and you should have MUCH better GPS performance.
This is actually the first time I've ever seen an Android phone come without a gps.conf file, but putting it in fixed my GPS issues.

The strange thing is that mine came with the GPS.conf file. But not with those exact settings. I'm gonna try replacing supl.nokia with supl.google and see if I can get faster locks.

I wonder if that's the reason the GPS problems don't affect every phone, some have the file, like you and some don't, like me.
I may have false hope
i went out side said 1st lock 21sec 0/6 none fixed but before all of this i never got anything took 1hr to get a brief lock so it progress for sure but today ill drive to work with it and report when i get there at 400 pm Eastern time thanks for this fix we are close i do believe.

I will be curious to see how it does on your trip to work today (have a good trip by the way!), the in-motion testing can tell even more about if this fix is really complete.

Odd, I dont have the file either. I lock super quick outside and in my car. In my computer room/office I have a lot of electronics running and cannot reliably lock. All other places downstairs and up seem to be fine though.
Also might be easier to make the config file on a computer and then copy over to the phone or push using ADB after mounting R/W.
I can always delete this file if it makes things worse right?
Lastly, rumors are a Gingerbread update is coming out soon. If that does happen, it may fix this and it may keep me from changing out for a SGS2.
I did have a gps.conf file i only had to change the supl.nokia.com and the port just tried it out lock is quicker accuracy is the same. I didn't have problems before just thought i would try it out. Nice find man.
Well mine is not so great it locked on in 13min so I start driving and 20min in lost GPS signal so this is definitely a improvement since before I never locked on I think something just needs changed with in GPS.conf not sure but we are on the right track I'm sure
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
The conf file and the xml file both have somethings that can be edited for improvement. AGPS is on so data network should be enabled, also the more you use AGPS the better your lock time and accuracy will be.
mine has never been good i even left the gps on inside my car all night pluged in to ac charger with gps status up it has been horrible performer i dont know were to turn from here i have a opertunity to get another thrill or a infuse im kinda torn between the 2 any imput is welcomed.

Where'd you get the phone? Have them pull out another Thrill and check the GPS outside the store. If you keep having bad luck with the GPS on the Thrill and you have the time left for return, I'd hold out for the sgs2 on the 2nd as opposed to going with Infuse. The infuse just seems like a step backward.

I agree, you'd be losing the dual core cpu, dual core memory, 3D and I think nicer screen, but the Infuse is certainly a nice phone as well. I would stay with the Thrill though, as Aria said.

Are they out of stock on it? I'm just wondering why they can't now, instead of having to wait until next week.
I came fron the Infuse. no way i could go back to one. id try to stick it out with the Thrill. i had gps issues on my Infuse, but not on my thrill. odd.
and i know quadrant isnt really always relevant, but stock infuse i couldnt crack 1100. on my thrill stock best i got was 2737. the performance of the thrill to the infuse really isnt even comparable.
you could try these settings. seemed to help on my infuse.

I have used the TD with a golf navigation programme (Mobile Golf Scorer). However, using the gps drains the battery, and after just under three hours the battery was empty, the the device 'dead', so I opened it and changed the battery to a a fully charged spare. The device came back on, everything works as usual - EXCEPT the gps which can no longer get a fix. I tried to get a fix in Google maps (to check that it wasn't some sort of software failure in the golf navigation software), still no luck.
Please, can anyone help!
Try to change the gps settings to:
Port: 4
Baudrate: 19200
My NavigonNavigator 6 works only with 19200.
I sometimes have a problem too that all of a sudden my GPS doesn't get a fix, or simply looses it while driving. Reboot doesn't work. The only way I can get it to work again is with the HTC GPS Tool and give it a cold start.. So I'm going to return it to get it fixed since this happens to me several times a week..

Is this port for the hardware or software?
If one is on com 4 which should the other be set to?

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what you mean by HTC GPS Tool (I am new both to HTC and TD). Would you mind elaborating? Also by 'cold start', do you mean hard reset? Because that was what HTC Support suggested (along with setting speed to 4800, which doesn't work either). But I cannot bear spending another 6-8 hours to reestablish everything, tweaks and all, after a hard reset which would be necessary as Sprite comes up with error messages.
No no, this hasn't got anything to do with a hard reset (thank God lol).
The HTC GPS tool is for download at http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853/Nadavi_HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab and it's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 .
In the first screenshot in that thread you can see a drop-down box which says "hot start". What I do is to first click the button "open"... then in the tab "sattelite" my problem gets confirmed (can't see any sattelite then). I go back to the first tab, I click the drop-down box, select "cold start", click Nav. Init. click the button close and immediatly open.... et voila, it works again. Sounds quite complicated, however once you've done it a 1st and 2nd time, it's a piece of cake lol

Its not letting me receive any calls. Because by the time I press "Accept" it becomes unresponsive for like a couple of mins and the call has already ended.
Its taking forever to load any apps too. It takes forever to open the Programs folder or the Settings folder. Everything takes like a min on the phone now.
I don't know what has caused this. It was working fine yesterday. I haven't installed any new apps either.
I have the HTC stock ROM downloaded from this website. I've had it installed for a few months now without a problem.
Can someone please help me in understanding whats causing this?
I've restarted the phone a few times now. The boot time is around 15 mins for some reason. It stays at the Window Mobile 6 screen for 15 mins before starting up.
Hard reset anyone?
Is that the only solution?
I'm sick of this and slowing turning anti-windows.
Some times things need to be refreshed. Don't be scared, it will be ok.

Somebody please explain to us that this slowness/unresponsiveness is unique for the TYTN II?! Should I expect the same from a HTC Touch or a Samsung?

Have you, by chance, been experimenting with network folders? I saw something similar with the file explorer, after I had connected to a network drive at home. It was trying to reconnect while I was away from the home network.
You should expect it from any electronic device like this. Maybe not 100% of the time and not 100% of them, but things like this do happen. There are too many things trying to live in harmony and not step on each others feet for there to never be a problem.
Do a hard reset and see what happens. If it doesn't solve your problem then it's time to look into a warranty claim. If you can use the phone, just backup your numbers and then reset. It's really easy and doesn't take much time to get things back to normal.

I've done this (hard reset) before and I have every right to complain. Not trying to be a troll, but sometimes I feel I should've bought an iP***e instead.
Right now I'm trying to take a backup of my files on the Storage card, but Total Commander is unresponsive (trying to copy 5 files for the past 30 mins).
I know I'll eventually hard reset this thing, but I'm just pissed right now.
So you don't think people have to hard reset their iphones? I laugh in your general direction.
If you can't make or receive calls, send or receive text messages, or access email or the web
Check the cell signal indicator in the status bar at the top of the screen. If there are no bars, or if it says "No service," try moving to a different location. If you're indoors, try going outdoors or moving closer to a window.
Check to make sure you’re in an area with network coverage. Go to your carrier's website to see network coverage areas.
Make sure airplane mode isn't on. From the Home screen choose Settings, then turn Airplane Mode off.
If that doesn't work, turn airplane mode on, wait 15 seconds, then turn airplane mode off again.
Make sure to include an area code for every phone number in your contacts list that you use to send or receive text messages.
If that doesn't work, turn iPhone off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPhone for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: If you enter the SIM PIN incorrectly three times, you may need to contact your carrier for a Personal Unlocking Key (PUK) to enable your SIM card again.
If that doesn't work, there may be an issue with your wireless service. Call your carrier or go to your carrier's website.
If that doesn't work, restore the iPhone software. See this document or see "Updating and Restoring iPhone Software" in the iPhone User's Guide.

is it possible that its just having trouble reading the sd card (if you have one?) maybe the file system is becoming corrupt on the card and its constantly trying to read it?..

I thought about this. I tried using the phone without the SD card. But the behavious was the same. Currently I'm hard resetting it
So how did it go?
Just finished hard resetting it. The phone works now. Fortunately I had an export of my contacts in an XML file (using a .NET utility that I wrote.) Unfortunately, I haven't written the import part of the utility yet
The phone works, but my docs and pics are gone. The SD card works fine. Thanks for your help guys.
Outlook works nice for backing up contacts and there is also a program you run from your phone that does the same thing. I think it's PIM backup
use cleartemp from now on to clear unneeded items on every start up
it is pim back up
its the BEST

Hey everyone, I'm trying to upgrade from Myn's Warm Eclair [BETA 1] (I know, I know, lol I should check here more often...) to Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS10] [7/8/10] (the download link that says "DOWNLOAD RLS10" in large orange font underneath the "What Doesn't Work" secton on his 1st post.
I'm doing what I usually do to install android, which is:
download the .nbh (which is voguimg-240x320-froyo-08-07-10.nbh)
rename it to RUU_signed.nbh
place it in the ROMUpdateUtility
add the ANDBOOT folder to the root of my SD card
placing the androidinstall.tar file inside
holding the power and camera buttons to boot into the RGB 'usb' screen
then running the ROMUpdateUtility to install it and boot up the linux
in linux I hold down the center button to get the the install menu
then install both system and data to the NAND (since I don't have partitions on my 8 gig SD
Here's the problem that I'm running into, once it formats and goes to install it says allot of random stuff then goes through about 15 lines of code saying "no such file or directory exists"
I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong or using the wrong files together.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
this happens to me all the time. the question you need to ask is "is the device getting to the desktop?" and "is the operating system fully loading to a usable state?"
in my experience answering either of these questions 'yes' puts you in a good position. there have been reports of boot sequence taking up to 20 mins. personally, i can make it to desktop in about 10 mins every time.
hope it helps.
sometimes you just need to format the sd card to fat32 again then try reinstalling after putting the files back on the card of course. if the sdcard is formatted wrong then it wont be able to read the directory and will give you that error

It's not a problem - this is the permission setting - ignore the messages
Just let it get back to the install screen, and then hit Quit or soft-reset device.
Then wait about 10-15 minutes for first boot and go through startup setup
Reboots are quicker, maybe anywhere from 2-4 minutes.
I overclocked my vogue to 496mhz with no issues & I guess some people hit 510mhz safely.
Just to add, Ive been running at 520 for a month now without noticing any major adverse effects...Sorry to chime in
I second wisconsinated's note -- I had this problem last night. I reformatted the card as FAT32 and things went as expected after. Not sure why they tanked in the first place, but I suppose that's not important, right?
ill third that. a reformat of my microsd did the trick.
i think it says on most of the eclair builds that you should just run the installer then let it sit for a good 10 15 minutes and you should be good to go.

oddly enough, with an experimental operating system, one needs to exercise extreme patience at times.
glad its all in order for you now
Thanks guys, I got it to finally install after the third try, I guess it was just having hiccups trying to install. Everything's good now.... OS installation side at least.
Now I have a different problem... my touch sensitivity is kinda out of whack.
it's like touch screen is dead half the time, on my stock sprint ROM it will work perfectly, but, on the newer builds of android (2.1's) the touch screen won't react most of the time. Like, I'll have to hit the screen over and over a few time's before it'll finally pick it up. I've used the calibration tool to get it all lined up, but when I go to test the calibration I notice that it will only recognize my touch between the .50's and .60's range, it's like it's locked into that area and won't pick up anything else. I also drew a circle around my screen about 10 times once I got it to recognize my pressure and out of the 10 circles 4 or 5 drew a line directly to the bottom right corner of the screen then it would bounce back to where I was actually pressing. It makes it really hard to get anything done on a touch phone if the screen doesn't want to pick up lol.
Like I say, when I move back to my original sprint rom everything is fine and dandy using WinMo 6.1 but who wants to use 6.1 now adays
So, is there any way to fix my touch sensitivity? or is my screen just crapping out on me?
Digitizer going bad
Ok, I've been looking around on the forums, it seems my digitizer is going bad, this is my second vogue (the first one's power button broke). I've only had this vogue for about 8 months so far and I really don't want to pay another $100 dollars to get Asuiron to send me another replacement. So I was wondering if there is any way to salvage my phone, maybe a screen pressure threshold setting within android to help the sensitivity issue?
Is there any way to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! =)

I am not sure this can help, are you familiar with terminal?
open terminal or adb and type
Code:
cat /sys/module/tsc2003/parameters/sensitivity
to see current setting, it usually is 8192
write it down and change the param to lower value like 3072
Code:
echo "3072" > /sys/module/tsc2003/parameters/sensitivity
check the result
Code:
cat /sys/module/tsc2003/parameters/sensitivity
it should now display 3072

So i arrive in england and i get my new phone. The internet speeds are terrible and my phone takes up to 3 min to open some pages.
Not normal right?
I am at ebay and pressing the email link in a sale i want and it will not allow it. Nothing happens
I go to paypal to update my new address and when i click on that option it selects the option above it, even if i magnify the screen to ensure i am pressing the correct field.
I read and delete emails, then an hour later it tells me i have new emails....nope. It will be old deleted mail
And last night it just shut down and would not come back on and had plenty of battery left. I had to remove the battery for it to power back on.
Should i just donate this thing to the concrete or what?
helps if you tell us what network you are on and what signal strength you have and what data is showing G/E/3G/H

Sounds screwed.
Root it and flash a nice brand spanking new ROM onto it.
Sounds like your screen callibration is out. Flashing will hopefully fix it.
Some kind of weird battery problem. Flashing will hopefully fix it.
Email issues. Reinstall email? Flashing will hopefully fix it.
Terrible speed. Sounds like mine when I got it. New modem driver time!
Flashing will fix it!
OK for your various problems I see only one clear solution. Send it to me and I'll see that the concrete gets it
So head over to the Galaxy Note developer section and choose your new ROM.
Do you also have heat issues too? If yes then flash Cassies Rom V6 (or new V7).
If you want good support then CheckROM V5 is probably a good choice.
Use the LA4 modem which is the latest. But its already built into those ROM's so you don't need to do anything special.
Also if you are in a low signal area then how you hold the phone can affect it. The antenna is at the bottom, so try and hold the phone higher up. And make a game of how often you accidentally press the power button and turn off the screen over and over. Really its fun once you give up fighting it

helps if you tell us what network you are on and what signal strength you have and what data is showing G/E/3G/H

I guess i will try flashing it when i get the new one.
I have had an iphone for a bit so have not played with rom flashing since my touch pro 2. Seems stupid to have to do all of that to get a working phone. Maybe thats why i went to apple in the first place. And yes the power button is mad annoying.
This weekend I tried another way around the recent LG Mobile Update lockout on KDX Updater.
I installed Fiddler 2 (http://fiddler2.com) and set up AutoResponder to return the KDZ file of my choice from my HD to LGMU instead of getting it from CSMG.
It worked, LGMU decompresses the KDZ file, starts the flashing process (up to 7%), then complains about not being able to communicate properly with the phone, phone not bricked after disconnection.
Setup:
Latest LG software (drivers and LGMU)
Fiddler2's AutoResponder set up with "EXACT:http://csmg(...)V20(...).kdz" and my KDZ's path, non-matching requests passing thru.
Phone (no battery) connected in Update mode (volume up) and Emergency mode is used from LGMU's menu.
Thoughts?

I might add it to my tut, if you want me to

You're welcome in doing that! I've used your solution before trying mine, and it was most helpful.
I just wanted to make a simpler solution but didn't even scratch the surface. Latest LGMU doesn't show anything other than the % progress.
Downloading just one single piece of software, one ROM, changing 3 bits of configuration in the same dialog and making LGMU do the rest for me apparently wasn't mean to be.
Has someone tried that already?
Finally did it!
And better yet, took even the time to flash the brazilian open version (V20A).
Conclusions:
Brazilian V20A is, in 3D terms, FAR better than the european V20N. In Quadrant, the moon graphic glitch is gone. And not just that;
The version letter, across regions/countries, doesn't mean anything.
The only problem seems to be a mem loss issue with Fiddler2's buffers. I had to restart F2 whenever I could throughout the process.
Bingo!
Nice one, but did you already check, if they didnt just remove the file, that is also know for speeding up 3d accel? Cause thats what is done in most tweaked versions, in order to boost the quadrant score ;-)
