Can't get GPS to lock at all - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

so here's the story. I've never been able to get a GPS lock with my captivate. I didn't try the GPS when I was originally on stock so i'm not sure if it ever worked. I'm currently on cm7 and when I turn GPS on and go to maps or GPS test the GPS icon comes up in the status bar but just continuously blinks.I've flashed back to stock with Odin and got nothing while on stock either. it won't find even a single satellite. I've tried a dozen different modems to no avail and a bunch of GPS fixes and GPS aids. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've looked high and low for a fix for this thing. Got any ideas i'm up for trying anything right about now.

You shouldn't have a problem with a phone that new. I believe any phones built or refurbished after last November have working GPS. I'd recommend flashing back to stock and hitting an AT&T device center.

mine is 1107 and my gps locks 5meters inside my house, sometimes 10meters using google maps.. the navigation is smooth, never miss compared to my old 1008, so unreliable gps.

Even, though I've had my phone replaced over this summer I've still had horrible gps with most roms. But from this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16306082#post16306082 , I've had absolutely fantastic results. It's extremely simple too. Just copy and past in /system/etc and replace the original gps.conf that's there. Try this first. Hope it helps

Does it work on I897 roms or just I9000 ports?

I don't think it matters. I've used it with both. All have the same gps.conf file

What is AngryGPS?

What is AngryGPS and why should I leave it on my phone... as I already have 4 other GPS apps I use? There is precious little information on Google about it.
Never had that app, maybe you should ask the creator of your custom rom?
I am wondering this too, Ultibread installed it on my phone and I have no clue what it is

That doesn't tell us anything about AngryGPS.
I believe it's part of Google Maps for their navigation. Weird name for a navigation system though. What if it gets angry and gets you lost?
Idk but i think is not much usefull? I deleted that from my rom and my gps is happy. It cant go angry now. Btw the performance of gps dont decrease.

is it only on samsung stock roms? I could not see it on ICS port for captivate
It was meant to fix GPS problems for the first batch of Galaxy S devices in which the GPS was "utterly broken" and "non-functioning".
Perhaps it is used for finding the device when lost?
Just an educated guess really, but i'm guessing it's one of the apps used when you ping your phone remotely. Perhaps it's always running in the background and can't be turned off for security purposes? Hence the term "Angry" GPS. Couldn't say for sure though. Again, just an educated guess.

gps has worked well for me. not the best I have ever had but not bad. Try different modem/kerne
I use the evo 4g with sprint. Im running miui 1.4.29 and everything is working fine. The gps is flakey, i use the telenav and it seems to stall. App loads i enter the address and it keeps searching for gps, then it fails and i hit retry and then it loads the route, but it doesnt move like as if it lost signal. Anyone can help?
gps works awesome for me. you need to just find the right modem kernel combo and i think you'd be surprised.
I'm having GPS issues since rooting and ROM-ing RD-MIUI-2.4.13_ICS-EN-DESIRE HD.
Using Google Navigation, I get a GPS lock on straight away but after about 5 minutes, it just keeps searching for GPS. Is there a way of installing the stock GPS Radio only?

Blutooth problems.....

yeah my phone won't connect to my Creative D200 speakers........they will pair but won't connect......I've see this mentioned in a few other threads but still no solution.......any advice? This problem persists regardles off rom, kernel etc
I had the same probel with certain Roms. I am now using darky and all is good. Since switching to a gingerbread Tom the sound has even improved.

Ok sorry, I got it it lock within 30 seconds to 1min by replacing the gps.conf file from a thread found through a fix for my G2X and it seems to be working for now indoors and out. I guess we'll see how this goes over.

Be glad the gas isn't locking on, I ate spicy last night. Wait, what?
gps.conf ? Could you link this thread? I haven't had any problems with the GPS on my DS7 but it is a little slow it seems.. Almost every time I use the built-in GPS it's about a minute, doesn't seem like it's keeping fresh ephemeris data or something.

what system are you using and where is this gps.conf file?
I am running the honeystreak 2.0R1 and used the file found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085354
You can unzip the file you need and copy/paste it to /system/etc but I would make a backup of the one in there before doing this. I get a lock within 30 seconds.

thanks man - i'll try it tonight...cheers!
Just use FasterFix in the market, you can pick which region you're in. But first off, look at /system/etc/gps.conf, if it's already set to your region and it looks right don't mess with it. My Nexus One was what I expect, and the DS7 is slightly different. Worth a shot I guess.
But again, I'd do it from the market app, less likely to make a typo.

There is no need to edit the file all your doing is replacing it. With the one with your correct region. If the app from the market works that's great. I perfer to edit or replace my files manually so that I know I have a backup incase I need to restore.

At least you get a lock. Mine takes up to 30 minutes and isn't worth the hassle.
I get a GPS lock in 2-3 seconds most times at my house with a typical wooden/shingled roof.

Issue with ICS leak and Navigation?

I recently flashed the ICS leak, build # 6.7.2233_DBN_M4-3 and my Google Nav app nor any app that uses navigation works. The map will work, and it will find my location based on 3g/4g, but it will continually say "Searching for GPS" and hang. Any ideas?
Not sure...I've been on 2233 since it was leaked and Google Maps Navigation followed me perfectly from Melbourne, FL to Isle of Palms, SC and back.
My gps signal also locks on pretty fast...before it would do it once in a while but on ics it locks on in one second every time Mine actually working faster and better if not the same. Just try uninstall and redownload.. If u haven't already..

Maybe instead of using the old leak try 232. I have yet to have any issues with anything i have used so far on that one.
Mine keeps losing GPS signal, then will come back about 30 seconds later. Not really good when you're trying to get thru D.C.
Oh, I'm on .230. Probably gonna flash .232 later and test it out.

Worked perfect for me on 2233, 230 and 232... in fact, just used it 2 days in a row for 4hrs straight each day... no drops.
I actually was having problems during my last couple of weeks using 905 GB. Gps was not accurate showing me driving through a field most of the time. Ive use 2233, 230, and 232 with great success. Even love the new voice.
