What is AngryGPS? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is AngryGPS and why should I leave it on my phone... as I already have 4 other GPS apps I use? There is precious little information on Google about it.

Never had that app, maybe you should ask the creator of your custom rom?

I am wondering this too, Ultibread installed it on my phone and I have no clue what it is

That doesn't tell us anything about AngryGPS.

I believe it's part of Google Maps for their navigation. Weird name for a navigation system though. What if it gets angry and gets you lost?

Idk but i think is not much usefull? I deleted that from my rom and my gps is happy. It cant go angry now. Btw the performance of gps dont decrease.

As previously started it replaces what used to be lbs test mode in froyo

is it only on samsung stock roms? I could not see it on ICS port for captivate

It was meant to fix GPS problems for the first batch of Galaxy S devices in which the GPS was "utterly broken" and "non-functioning".

Perhaps it is used for finding the device when lost?
Just an educated guess really, but i'm guessing it's one of the apps used when you ping your phone remotely. Perhaps it's always running in the background and can't be turned off for security purposes? Hence the term "Angry" GPS. Couldn't say for sure though. Again, just an educated guess.

Extremely slow market after Froyo update

Am I the only one experiencing this? It's frustrating searching for anything cause it takes soo long!

That's odd, mine works perfectly fine and everything is just smoother.
I have noticed a little lag actually, mainly when opening an apps page... Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
Mine was lagging on the first day. Been fast today though. I think it's just their Market database refreshing the caches located worldwide to include 2.2 in the filter rules. (The rules that determine whether an app shows up in your device)

Yeah, I just checked and I think it was just a temporary thing, things seem to be up to par now.
I was having the same problem...
Fixed by going to settings->privacy then unchecking both checkboxes (first the second the the first, as just the first didn't fix it for me)..
I think it's that it's trying to restore an app no longer available and that's what's using all the resources?
works!

Can you be more specific when you say updated radio. the froyo updatw till put you on 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7 - so I assume you mean downgrading the radio rather than updating? Or did you reflash the new radio version afetr flashing froyo. This info could be useful to many experiencing problems with froyo

Hmm my market is still unbearbly slow. I have just given up using it now until official froyo is out. No great loss as it means I don't have to wade through the masses of chinese girl porn in there.

Just rooted, Now what?

This is the first time I have ever been near or used an Android phone. I got my i9000 a few days ago and have started messing about with widgets etc. I have been reading this forum for a few months prior to owning an Android phone as technology interests me. I was following a home screen thread and realized I had to root my Galaxy S to be able to take screenshots. Then I found the One Click Lag Fix app that was on the Android market. The lag was something that was really bothering me and now its running really smooth.
So now I have root what else should I do to my phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
A couple apps I use that need root access: mybackup pro and root explorer.
Have fun
I'll be sure to check them out. Anyone else?

Flash roms, overclock cpu, clear app caches. Modify system apps (eg make browser fullscreen).
Anything really.
Clocksync - if cell-network time sync sucks.
MarketAccess - if you can't purchase apps on market
Autokiller or Minfree manager - to keep memory tidy (less necessary on the most recent firmwares)
Screenshot - should be obvious.

[Q] Miui GPS

Hey guys im sure yall have all noticed that gps on our phones all suck but with a few tweaks like Adam has done for supernova and phoenix is there a way we can get a semi working gps on our phones using miui?

gps has worked well for me. not the best I have ever had but not bad. Try different modem/kerne
I use the evo 4g with sprint. Im running miui 1.4.29 and everything is working fine. The gps is flakey, i use the telenav and it seems to stall. App loads i enter the address and it keeps searching for gps, then it fails and i hit retry and then it loads the route, but it doesnt move like as if it lost signal. Anyone can help?
gps works awesome for me. you need to just find the right modem kernel combo and i think you'd be surprised.
I'm having GPS issues since rooting and ROM-ing RD-MIUI-2.4.13_ICS-EN-DESIRE HD.
Using Google Navigation, I get a GPS lock on straight away but after about 5 minutes, it just keeps searching for GPS. Is there a way of installing the stock GPS Radio only?

Can't get GPS to lock at all

so here's the story. I've never been able to get a GPS lock with my captivate. I didn't try the GPS when I was originally on stock so i'm not sure if it ever worked. I'm currently on cm7 and when I turn GPS on and go to maps or GPS test the GPS icon comes up in the status bar but just continuously blinks.I've flashed back to stock with Odin and got nothing while on stock either. it won't find even a single satellite. I've tried a dozen different modems to no avail and a bunch of GPS fixes and GPS aids. Has anyone had a similar problem? I've looked high and low for a fix for this thing. Got any ideas i'm up for trying anything right about now.

You shouldn't have a problem with a phone that new. I believe any phones built or refurbished after last November have working GPS. I'd recommend flashing back to stock and hitting an AT&T device center.

Even, though I've had my phone replaced over this summer I've still had horrible gps with most roms. But from this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16306082#post16306082 , I've had absolutely fantastic results. It's extremely simple too. Just copy and past in /system/etc and replace the original gps.conf that's there. Try this first. Hope it helps

Does it work on I897 roms or just I9000 ports?
I don't think it matters. I've used it with both. All have the same gps.conf file

[Q] Sky Go on ICS?

Basically,
Sky Go came out today and it says that the Galaxy is is supported. But, when I try to load it up, it says your device is not supported and I take it that it's saying that because I've got AOKP ICS on there.
Would anyone know a way of fixing this?
Thankssss

The resolution is fine after a minute or so.
Current problem appears to be that no other channel other than Sky news works, possibly because it is non encrypted.
Possible issue caused by rooted phones not being supported but that is a little unclear as people with unrooted phones are also experiencing the same issues, ie, the app is sticking at the buffering screen and shows no pictures.
Apart from that, its fantastic
I see there is a discussion going on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22781731
They talk about apps that temporarily revoke root access to the phone to trick the Sky Go app into thinking you have a stock ROM. Sounds like too much effort for one app tbh, but I thought I'd share in case you hadn't seen it!
