[Q] HD Dock Power Supply - too sensitive? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I noticed that the powersupply (AC plug) for my HD dock is very sensitive. If it is not plugged in to an outlet just right, the phone does not go into "dock mode" and it doesn't charge. If you wiggle the transformer a bit, you can get it to work.
I think it is all because of the fact that the plugs fold into the transformer which makes them sensitive.
I am bringing it back to verizon for a replacement.
Does anyone else have this problem with their HD dock?

I have this dock and I do not have that problem since I bought it.

Update: I exchanged the dock at the Verizon store and this one works fine

Docks

Hi
Ever since I started with Android I have heard about car and desk docks. Never had one, but I thought it was quite simple: a cradle with built in charger connection.
I then saw some "car home" apps which claimed to activate when in a car dock. So how does the phone know? What's in the dock?
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
The dock contains a tiny magnet and the phone "reads" the polarity of this magnet. On this link you can see how to build your own media dock.
Cheers
I had seen that, but with the sound off and didn't read the text. D'Oh!
That's easy enough! Now I just need a magnet to test it...
ok, freaky coincidence here... girlfriend bought me a car shaped manicure set at christmas. putting that against the back of my defy puts it in car dock mode

Motorola Car Dock

Is anyone using the Moto Car Dock? I was looking at getting one for my wife but after reading a few reviews I'm a little confused about something. I see it comes with a 3.5mm cable but do you have to use it? One reviewer said when the phone was in the dock they could not get any sound out of the built in speaker. That doesn't sound right to me but I was hoping someone could confirm or deny that bit of info.
Thanks,
Kurt
I just got my Moto Navigation Dock yesterday and am loving it. I can confirm that the dock itself does not change your audio output. It is the special usb/audio cable that changes that. If you use a normal USB cable instead of the hybrid one, the speaker on the Droid 4 still sounds.
I just went out to my car and tried this with my Droid 2 charger and the Droid 4 dock.
Also, beware because the Verizon branded Navigation Dock kit does not include any USB cable or vehicle charger. The Motorola branded one does include the hybrid cable and the dual port vehicle charger.
On a side note, my only disappointment with the dock is that the clip at the top is engaged the screen is secured from flipping open. This is unlike all the previous Moto Droid chargers, which all allowed access to the physical keyboard while docked.
If you have any other questions or want me to try out any combinations, let me know!
Thanks for the reply. What you said about the cable makes sense. That's exactly the information I needed.
Thank You.
Kurt
Can you use the camera with this dock, or is it obscured by the plastic?

Any docks with pogo pin support?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm probably going to wait for this http://www.gear4.com/android/
or if something interesting comes out that uses the pogo pins, but I haven't seen anything yet.
found this one...

Hard to believe no one has a simple landscape charging dock that uses the pogo pins yet, haven't even seen a pre-order announcement.
It probably won't be landscape for the pogo pins seeing as they are quite low down they could fit in a vertical dock. Also seeing as the home screen is vertical I don't see how an official landscape dock would come out.

Be warned, there are reports that this dock has the microUSB port rotated the wrong way so the Nexus 7 would have to be inserted facing backwards.
Am I correct in assuming that a dock is no use except as a paperweight if I'm not willing to remove Nexi™ from his little house?
And yes I'm serious. My toothbrush can charge without actually involving sockety things.
and now i'm starting to wonder why the hell any of my devices have pogo pins, i never find any reasonably dock that uses them for my gnex or the n7....

Its been reported Asus are producing a dock where it sits horizontally for movie watching. The pins are for that.

Nothing a new launcher doesn't fix as far as landscape for the home screen, Also I would think for watching movies, listening to music, etc. having it docked and charging would be a good thing and landscape is no problem.
With the pogo pins, they should be able to put two charging points, one for vertical and one for horizontal without any plugs sticking out and in the way.

The desk mode on the nexus works nicely in landscape with the stock launcher. Drop it in the dock and enjoy your nice new desk clock with multimedia functions
I wonder if they will eventually allow the stock launcher to use landscape fully? (without the need for third parties or dpi fiddles)
Anybody find any more docks?

I've seen plenty of regular micro usb docks and ones with speakers too
philips had some I saw at bestbuy a year ago or so
so keep in mind there are plenty of non pogo options out right now that would support your other micro usb devices too
All I'm looking for is a charging dock stand so it can be used as a clock. I like the one on gadgets4geeks a lot but it's pretty expensive to ship to the USA.

Today at work ive been playing around with one of the Kensington K33239 docks connected through USB-OTG. All ports seem to work except the audio and parallel ports. i managed to get the serial port working with the help of "Slick USB 2 Serial Terminal" as the only real reason i would need a serial port is for works router. works great, except that its only a docking station solution and does not charge the nexus 7 at the same time.

Anyone using Qi wireless?

Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has attempted to use Qi wireless with the G Flex. I had the Palm touchstone for my GS3 and fell in love with it. With the Flex I am figuring it is a bit more complicated as there is not simply a dedicated hookup on the back of the device that made the Palm mod possible on the S3, as well as most Qi enabling devices out there connect into the microusb port, which may not be as simple as it could be given the curved back and oddity that is the microusb 3.0 standard connector.
So has anyone given it a shot and have some recommendations?
I didn't feel the need to since the battery last me all day on one charge even with somewhat heavy use.

I'm running this on a Qi wireless charger now. Works quite well except you can't get enough juice out of the Qi receivers on the market. They only go up to 750 mA which means it takes a long time to charge. But I like the convenience.

Do you need a special case for wireless charging? I thought it didn't support the Qi wireless charger. Is it a new feature in 4.4.2?

Good question. Qi wireless charging is a hardware limited option. So you have to add a Qi wireless receiver. You can find numerous universal Qi micro usb "A" on Amazon or eBay. The receiver plugs right into the charging port you have and the receiver is either secured to the back of the phone (it's a really thin, like a thick piece of paper almost). Since there is no removable cover this is the only option. Now if you don't have a case or have a slim one, it probably wouldn't look good. I have mine tucked under a Trident case (in between the phone the case), the Aegis I believe. So you don't even notice it.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Man this is a old post. lol I think I charged the Flex like I do my Note 4. I'll put it on the wireless charger when I sleep and maybe when I take a shower or eating. With the Note 4 it has quick charge so I use the cable if I need some quick juice.
Any word when the Flex 2 is coming out?

Says coming soon here.
I got one, it arrived today. Just in case mine breaks. And it's JUST the dock. As in no plug or charging cable comes with it. Not a "major" thing, but usually charging docks come with a plug and cable.
Just a heads up for anyone planning to get one.

I am using a rubber band to hold the charger and watch together.
I've been using a ponytail band
I use a clothes pin to hold mine into the charging dock. I had a chat session with Samsung support and they basically said that if the dock was "damaged" that it was not covered under warranty. Their version of damaged meant that the tab was missing. What a bunch of crap. Spineless to not stand behind their product.

Mine's been broken for a couple of months now ;-;
The charging dock availability must've been very short-lived. Play Store doesn't sell it anymore ("The Samsung Gear Live Charging Dock is no longer available for purchase."), and hasn't for as long as I'd been looking for it.
I hold it together now with a 1-inch binder clip that's been sprung-out to reduce its tension. It works quite well, since I have a different strap (the strap's two "rivets" fell out shortly after I started wearing it, rendering it un-repairable).
Just before that happened, though, I noticed that the dock contacts were eroding, pitting, falling apart... and sure enough, now it's gotten to the point where they're all broken down to some degree, one is totally gone, and it only charges when the dock rests in a certain position.
So that's three failures:
- the band (cheap-ass rivets holding the metal buckle onto the plastic strap)
- the charging dock (when that dies, you have no more watch... sooo...)
- the charging dock contacts (when THOSE die, you're definitely screwed)
Seriously, WTF Samsung?
I purchased an additional one on ebay... I think for around $20.00 I keep a separate set of chargers for all my devices in my toiletry bag for travel, so I went ahead and bought a charger for the watch as well. I've used it several times when traveling and no issues so far.
