[Q] root Nexus one without power button? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, guys,
the power button of my Nexus one was broken. I am thinking to root it and install customed ROM. it is currently running stock ROM, and it is unlocked.
I read a lot, but I still have a question: can I root it and install customed ROM without power button?
I asked, because i am not sure if i have to use power button to enter recovery, for example, to Boot into Amon_Ra's Recovery.
thanks
JD

I saw the application, Fix Broken Button. does it work well?
thanks,

If you're referring to the bootloader being unlock than you can use fastboot
to install a custom recovery I think.

You can boot into recovery via adb:
adb reboot recovery

thanks for the reply.
which ROM supports using trackball as power button?

CM7 has trackball wake and trackball unlock.
There is NO ROM that will power on the device with trackball.

How to perform fastboot oem unlock WITHOUT POWER BUTTON

Here is a problem,
My POWER BUTTON NOT FUNCTION AT ALL.
Phone is absolutely naked, Bootloader Locked, Not Rooted and STOCK FR91 Rom.
Can any one tell me HOW TO PERFORM FASTBOOT OEM UNLOCK without POWER BUTTON.
I could reboot to FASTBOOT USB mode. I could select YES with Volume UP/DOWN keys, BUT I COULD NOT CONFIRM THIS ACTION WITH POWER BUTTON.
Does any one knows how to unlock without confirmation, maybe additional command?
Since your phone is not rooted neither bootloader unlocked, so I would suggest you to contact HTC to repair your power button, if it is possible.
Also, if you just want to root - you can manage without unlocking the bootloader now. In your case it might be better solution.

Contact HTC is not a solution, because it is not so easy in my Country (Belarus) and I have removed "VOID" sticker, I was trying to fix button, but have failed.
Also I'm using Universal Androot to get root access.
If you have root - you don't need to unlock the bootloader.
Without the power button you can't unlock, but as long as you're still on FRF91, then flash_image is a good substitute.

Does flash_image for G1 is suitable for Nexus one.
As I could understand, it allows me directly to write *.img to specified area from the device shell. Am I right?
Yes, you're right.
You don't flash CM6 or any other ROM by fastboot. You flash them in recovery. And you flash recovery either by fastboot or by flash_image.
The guides are in Nexus One Wiki. Go there, "Recovery", "using flash_image".
Thank you.
Finally I have installed CM 6.0 ROM using flash_image method.
But I have question, should I completely remove this files : /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p? Or I could restore them after recovery flashing?
Recovery - No Power Button Confirmation - I'm loving it.
Rom - adhoc, trackball wake and so on - I'm testing it.
yes, completely remove them.

do you can give step by step how to make it works, i have the same problem with lock bootloader and power button broke and currently bootloop
Another reason someone might want to do this. I have a Asus Zenwatch that needs to be flashed due to a bad update. Unfortunately the power button is located on the back. To hook the watch up to the computer to issue the "fastboot oem unlock" command I need the phone to be on the charging cradle. To hit the power button I need to pull the device off the cradle. It turns itself off the moment it's off the cradle.
I just ordered a cheap cradle that I can drill through to create a hole to access the power button, but a method of triggering this without needing to confirm on the phone / watch is needed.

You would be best to start at the wiki. Depending on whether you are running a custom recovery, custom ROM, stock ROM, Android version etc the information we can give to help will differ. The wiki has pretty much every answer we can help with

[Q] How to install a custom rom without volume keys

Hey guys,
I have recently broken my incredible S screen and sent it to get fixed, when I got it back from my carrier (OPTUS) they reflashed their rom onto it and for some reason or another the volume up key doesn't press in.
Because of this I can't reinstall CWM to flash the roms I want.
I was wondering is it possible to flash a rom without using the up volume key?
NOTE: All I want to install is CM7.2 or ICS 4.04 Farewell edition.
Thank you all,
If you need to only flash a Rom, I would use 4ext. It's touch screen.
I need to reroot my phone and reinstall CWM - without the volume up key
have you uncheck fastboot?under power settings

You don't need to use volume keys to root your phone or gain superuser access. So once you do that boot into your phone as normal and download the 4ext app and install 4ext touch from within the app. When you go into bootloader you'll just have to press the volume down key to get to recovery.
Sent from my Incredible S using xda premium

you can try flashing another rom via odin, i've faced the same issue before when i removed certain apks in custom roms before flashing.
else boot into recovery mode and see if your home button can function when you make the selections.

Stock Recovery !
The G-Note has a stock recovery function as well. Just turn off your phone and hold the volume-up + Home + Power to enter into recovery. if this is successful then your home button functionality is good.

Installing custom rom, on galaxy s gt-i9000, with a busted power button

Hi there i am relatively new to android modding and rooting etc. I recently tried to install Cyanogenmod to my phone and I succeeded, but the next day my phone began to restart itself, turns out that the power button is broken. We tried to repair it but ended up burning down the processors internal i/o (latch or whatever structure it has) with a faulty multimeter . Now i have to turn on my phone with a dock cable (with 1kohm res) which wakes up the phone, i can access the Download mode by plugging in the dock, and pressing home+down, but the recovery needs the power button signal too.
I can access the recovery by using adb commands, but i need to boot in. If i install a new recovery like CWM, i am stuck in a bootloop and i don't know if i can use the adb commands. Is there any other way to get into recovery mode, besides home+power+up, or adb commands?
Can i install CM onto the phone under these circumstances?
Thanks for any help given!
Not sure how you are going to select options in recovery as you need the power button unless you have Touch Recovery or TWRP recovery. Anyway use this app to boot to recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423071

Well if i install a new recovery mod like clockworkmod then i'll be in one. That is why it is necessary to reboot in it so i can install the ROM.
Rather get your power button replaced.
