Is it just me or is the lack of Froyo turning some people on this forum into total dicks? The flaming, ASCII text, FFS comments, etc. Is it past your bed time? Is it you're taking your home or job stress out on other people? Grow up and be considerate of people once in a while.
I spent a year on the Incite forum; it wasn't as bad. Then I spent 6 months on the Pure forum and still didn't see this type of abuse. I read the whole congition forum before jumping and didn't see it this bad. It's just here in the general section. Something about this forum, phone or android is making its users very sour!
People ask for help or fire off questions without due process. Deal with it! Some people search better than others and some people don't empower themselves at all and just fire off questions before letting them sink in. I've been doing tech support for over a decade and know people come in all types. That's why we have Call in, KB's, Forums, Email, WebEx, etc... For modifying your phone or voiding your warranty; we have forums so accept everyone as they come. You stop posting your dumb ass comments and it will filter into the older pages. A simple already posted or subtle link to something already posted is more than sufficient.
It's just you.

It's just you. The forum has been very helpful to me.
People flame you if you ask something stupid or obvious. "Deal with it!!"
Edit: Added quotations.
Just you.
If you search from the top level of the captivate forums it searches all sub forums. Your the one with all the exclamation points. If you work in a tech support field, you should really have thicker skin then you are demonstrating.
Moved to Q&A.
Also toning the language down in the first post a tad wouldn't hurt. You can get the same point across without being quite so confrontational.
People can be dicks about it..but they have every right to be when one someone asked a question that has been asked 20 times already, sometimes just 1 or 2 post back from where the question is asked. I understand people get in a hurry..don't read the instructions..the dog ate their homework..but come-on..

+1 For It's Just You.
Every forum has factions that are smart asses or outright asses.
For the most part this forum is great and extremely helpful and i don't see any different tenor here than any other forum i have frequented.
+ a majority of people here have already been running froyo for sometime....so there is no lack.
+1 for its just u. I found this forum very helpful.
Edit: I never so far had to wait for even a couple hours before someone answered any question/request I posted here..
Wow.... That's all I'm saying...

All I ever read on androidforums are people crying about when Froyo is released. ATT this, Samsung that, no Froyo cryyyyyy. And then none of them will flash a leaked Froyo build. It's like they are all so excited for the OTA to come full of AT&T apps which they'll just try and remove anyway.
It must be me.

To be fair, I do expect the official build to fix a lot of bugs we're having with the leaked roms, so I can see why people would be waiting for the official release. There's a whole thread in the general section about froyo problems, most of which haven't been resolved in the custom roms.

lol... even still, i feel ya though.
When I first got my captivate I stumbled onto some Evo forums and thought that some of the conversations where quite a bit nastier than here. I was very pleased and thankful that I didn't have to deal with that while trying to decipher the unwritten language that seems to be somewhat unique to each Android device (which, IMO makes it hard to search for items with unfamiliar concepts or procedures and why we have people asking the same questions over and over... you know, besides just being lazy).
But I definitely don't think that's not as true anymore. It won't stop my addiction to reading, learning, and flashing new roms and kernels though!
hey guys is there any root/roms for this device yet? ive tried searching and havent come up with anything... it all seems to be for the AT&T vivid...
The Raider x710a is the HTC Vivid, at least that's what it says under my battery cover.
Does the Rogers device have the same code?
Root's always been available for Canadian Raiders as your bootloader was unlocked much earlier than ours. custom ROMs are interchangeable by region.
well its actually a bell one, same device but i tried loading the ics official RUU from AT&T and it was a no go?
set sail for fail, another day, another newb
just newb with this device, if you check my threads i use to cook roms for the magic...so stfu

Learn the art of posting on XDA. This should be in general.
You asked for root and ROMs. For you, this has been available for what feels like centuries. Just looking at the dev board would have gotten your answer.
Now you're talking about ICS RUU, which is neither of those. Searching anywhere would have immediately told you that you need an OTA with the new HBOOT and the Canadian carriers have not released that yet!
Ai ya yai, it's no surprise that PG left.
ok so its rooted, and if im corrected there is no ics available to flash?
Yes.

A lot of it flew out the window when PG left. There were so many people who kept asking the same questions over and over, who didn't search nor follow instructions, then proceeding to come here and whine about why their phone/ROM didn't work. PG got fed up. It's part of why the development here is so weak.
This posed question really is no different. I can provide decent responses to good questions and demonstrated competence, but it's immensely tedious to try to respond to the same questions over and over when the answer is readily plastered all over the place.
It was common understanding in the old Captivate forum that one is to search before posting, then post their question. For some reason, the problem wasn't nearly as pronounced there, and all places in which it appeared was in the General section. I feel like the convoluted (by comparison) HTC setup is causing a lot of angst among those new to this, but the information to do things properly is still present on the forums as much as it was before. All people must do is read thoroughly and follow directions. Nobody is responsible for your device except you, so it's your fault if you brick your $500+ phone.

I can understand the intolerance for whiners, but he wasn't whining. I know the history of PG and the reasons he left.
The quick quips telling someone to search really aren't helpful. Maybe they did and it was confusing or they didn't find the answer.
For that matter, if searching is always the response at XDA, we don't need XDA since all of the same answers are available on other websites and can be Googled.
The Internet is free and we can act however we wish. My wish is for a more helpful, less critical culture.

Same questions everywhere i look
I have been using xda for years, i never post, i do this out of respect for the devs and people who have legit questions in the tread but since i just got my HTC raider last week (i have a G-Nexus as my main device) i started to Rom and ROot this device and i have seen so much anger on these threads, brothers i have the same hate for mundane and stupid questions that can be answered by control -F-, or the search button at the top, i have found a answer to every problem i have had for almost 3 years worth of androids (G1,DEXT,DesireZ,GalaxySVibrant,MOTOAtrix,Xt860,samsung note, galaxy nexus) Just for the love of god please use the search functions that we have at our disposal so that we dont loose DEV's like PG and we continue to make these phones better than they are
lets stand up for justice in the forums
Lets stand up for clean forums
LETS STAND UP FOR SOME BLOODY ICE CREAM SANDVICH

I'm not talking about this isolated instance. I'm saying in general. OP didn't whine, but his second question posted a very simple and very common question whose answer is found all over the shop.
Every thread I've read ever since joining XDA has a clear instruction set. Never found any problems, and any unclear bits was usually cleaned up within at most a day. Especially for things that are guided/intuitive like RUU updating or CWM flashing. Anything deviating from that has always had clear and express instructions.
I agree with you on the searching front. It's just that by consequence, XDA is a pinnacle for Android development information and Google's search is not localized to the forum (though it can be forced), nor are all its threads indexed with the latest information on the latest issues, unlike the forum search and its ability to parse posts as they are made. Likewise, most of the information here cannot be found elsewhere unless heavily publicised.
My wish is for XDA's culture to have more autonomy and less incompetence. XDA is more of an instruction manual when it comes to knowing the ins, outs and modifications that you can do to your device.
Anyway, let's end this before it erupts. I am now abandoning this thread.
For those of you that have been around these parts for a while, you may remember the State of Development updates that good ol' Gsleon3 used to update us with. These came for us at a time when development for the Vivid seemed to be at a standstill, and for those of you that were here, you remember why. For those of you who don't, let me catch you up a little (and I apologize for the bad feelings that this may drum up, but I don't want anything to get out of control again). So grab a beer and a snack, this may be a long one
It was about April, and development for the Holiday was still in its infancy. There were a few good ROMs being released, and generally, it was a good place to be. Then accusations of stealing other's work, accusations of corrupt moderators, and all around child-like behavior started, and it became the downfall of the Holiday forum at XDA. ROM threads started closing. Then came the bickering. Then the Devs left. Then the users began to play the blame game, and the "let me try to whine my way to what I want" game. All the best devs left and opened up shop in their own little corners of the internet (and I can't blame them one bit), and development for the device was no longer centralized. There were/are still AWESOME ROMs available for this device, just not on XDA. This always made me a little sad. As painful of a place as XDA (or any internet forum for that matter) can be at times, there's sooooo much good information crammed into one site that it has always been my one-stop shop, but that wasn't true any longer. I settled in, I found a home, but I kept a close eye on what else was happening across the interweb's Holiday community. I liked to keep my eye on one project specifically, synergy's CM10 project, because who wouldn't want JellyBean, right?
Now, a little more information for those of you who weren't around.. The original CM10 thread was opened at another site in July, where the project started. Syn put a lot of time and effort into it, but in the end, found it to be not worth his time to continue on a project he didn't see possible to ever be finished (mainly due to the ATT in-call mic issue and video issues), and again, who can blame him? He abandoned the project at the beginning of August. This is where mg picked the project up, and continued it with a few fixes himself, before somehow we caught the attention of h8rift. h8 has been awesome - cleaning up our trees, getting things in their proper home, and powering through anything that gets in his way It's so great to have him around.
Myself, up until October, had only ever had experience with things like making boot animations, icons, editing .xmls in .apks, and some slight .smali edits. Thanks to mg's excellent guide and a crapton of Googling, I learned out how to compile/build cm from source. Then I thought, "I wonder if I could do the same for other JB flavors?" So guess what? I tried, and it worked. Every single question I had along the way (with the exception of a few Ubuntu and git specific questions), were answered by a thread here at XDA. Cool, right?
I am very excited to see new ROMage out for this device...as I'm sure anyone who was here through the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012" would agree, I was pretty sure what we had was all we were ever going to see. Which again, would have been OK, cause there are some great ROMs out there, but I've never been the kind of dude to settle in on the same ROM for too long - that's why I came to XDA in the first place. Now as I'm sure everyone can see, through collaboration, this project is making HUGE progress! I cannot thank mg and h8 enough for keeping it going. This brings me to my last point...
I encourage everyone to participate, and offer suggestions, and share information - that is, after all, what a developer's forum should be about. The wealth of knowledge that's available at XDA is out of this world, but sometimes hiding deep within the threads, filled by off-topic chatter and users who have way to huge a sense of entitlement. Please always keep in mind that the things you're getting here are free. Hours upon hours upon hours of work go into these projects, just to be shared for very little asked in return. Wait, we ask for something in return? Yes - READ, SEARCH, and SEARCH AGAIN before posting. Like I said, there's already a wealth of knowledge here that's incomparable to other Android forums on the web, but yes, sometimes it can be trying to find that information. But it's not impossible. Also - keep an eye on the issues list. There are bugs. There will probably always be bugs. And as long as there are, they will continue to be squished to the best of our ability (though h8's ability is far beyond mine, so let's especially be nice to him )
In closing - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this place become what it was before. So far I feel like the atmosphere around here has been a lot better, but I know how easy it can be for it to slip back to where it was. So be respectful, don't ask for ETAs, and be thankful for what we have - cause what we now have is a TON more options that we had before.
I remember the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012"... it was ugly, didn't even want to visit the site half the time. But things are looking up and I'm glad I didn't return my vivid thirty days after the release date like so many did.

Well said homeslice. Although I haven't been as active in my participation I got the Vivid on day 1 and am really happy to see development where it is today. There were many points I thought the device was basically dead and time and time again it was revived with new life. Hopefully the few left can make sure not to repeat drama mistakes of the past.
And great job on going from a reader to a developer, very well done.
Why is my xda premium app only let me reply/post on certain sections of forums and not development??:banghead:

Sorry but we don't approve of the use of our work by non-team members and do not condone the porting of any of our roms to other devices for various reasons. One of those reasons is these roms will never meet the same level of quality and support our users have become accustomed to as such, these roms will never be allowed on xda and will also be refused Venom Hub access.

That's exactly what I want but there is a language barrier, instead of releasing could you try to make it legit here with your team? Please I know there are really good developers and they can find how to make it legit is all I ask I do not want to make an issue out of trying to help others with this device, this device is capable of running this Rom flawless just like the one x or rezound which in fact is is the same device but cdma could you help us or assign this port to one of your team members?
Or if none of you has the vivid let a vivid developer take care of it please we have really good developers here to!!

Let's just drop it. The villec2 should get its jellybean sense+ update soon, and maybe we can port it. Or maybe we can get the Koreans to share their secret. In the meantime, it appears to be elsewhere, so get it there if you must

So, the options are:
1. We remove all of our tweaks from the framework files of a kanged port of one of our roms so that you can use it as a base
2. You find a Korean translator to ask the one who got data working how he did it.
Let's not start more xda drama the vivid forum has already been thru this. Either find someone who speaks Korean to ask to translate or have them remove all of their tweaks like they ask. The vivid has come to far now to start drama over a sense 4 ROM

I'm not been sarcastic please help the vivid users to get a sense 4 Rom up and running if you can remove your framework from it that would be awesome to use it as a base I know you and your team are great developers I'm using your viper Rom on my wifes phone and I am really impressed with what you guys have done, I never wanted to start a war here or elsewhere all I want to do is give the sense 4 option to vivid owners like me!! You don't understand the work effort in removing our tweaks from the framework so you'll need to follow up with the Koreans.
And I honestly hope we don't see any more links to this kang roms, either here or on rootzwiki.

What the hell is going on in this forum? I've never seen a forum with so many posts for other devices. If there are any mods out there, would you be so kind to clean this place up a little.
from my Tranquil Rezound
I've been wondering the same thing. I realize XDA is a huge forum, but there are MANY Mods (so it seems). I find it hard to believe that these threads have been out of place for this long. I don't like to sound like I'm being rude, but there are threads that have been here for day after day and there's a list of mods at the top that look over this part of the forum. I know people have lives and all but I'd think that a mod would see things like "Xperia 8" "Zte v970m" and "monetize free desktop applications" and knew that something was wrong. o.o

I'm sure we have been wondering that...
From my Count there are 20 threads that have nothing to do with the one and were posted all for other devices. Thats quite ridiculous. I think its time that I unsubscribe from the Question and troubleshooting forum for the HTC One. Its quite a waste of time. Too many posts for devices and problems I don't really care about.
Instead of instantly saying "wrong forum", you might try asking what steps did they take to get to this post. Just a thought.

I can understand maybe the odd noob getting confused and posting in here related to a "One series" phone....but posting in here for a "sammy" phone? WTF....even a noob couldn't be that dumb....could they?:silly:
Deffo agree that the place could do with a big clean up though.:good:
I am sure there were people who were really confused and made mistake posting other devices' question here.
BUT! This should not happen so frequently like this! People are noob in solving their phone's problem but are not so blind that they can't see the forum title!
So I believe this is organized activity that aims to mess up our htc one q&a section. They actually achieved their goal, see people are not subscribing to this section few posts above.
This is very sad, not trying to point finger to anyone/any company behind this, but if you consider xda forum is so powerful now those company's marketing people could easily use this place to promote their product, or on the other hand, prevent people from accessing valuable information by distracting them, then in the end, make them lose interest or potentially delay their decision of buying the forum related product.
We are all clever enough to figure out, if my theory is true, who is more likely behind this and so afraid of HTC's new flag ship One!
I think what we should do is, keep sticking to this forum, and post more related topics actively to show our support to our beloved device. We need this q&a section and it is down to us in the end to keep it active!
actually, I found it quite amusing, every time I come here, there were new posts asking unrelated questions, and this actually makes me come here more often.
Also, I would like to point out, we should NEVER answer those unrelated question but only point out they are posted at the wrong place, and only the first one or two people doing that will be enough. We want those threads die out quickly not keep remerging at the top!!!
Please help all of us keep this place as it should be! And keep calm and carry on.
Reported all the threads which should not be here to the mods so hopefully they will pop along and do a quick tidy up for us.
How does one become a mod anyways? Because I've never seen any of the mods for these forums, I'd rather see one of us (that is seen on the ONE forums frequently) to become a mod that way at least we have someone who will see all these post about different devices.

They used to take applications, not anymore
We have plenty on mods, they just won't really moderate this forum until the device is released

So where are the mods?
We are here of course. I alone have moved 15 threads today to the right forums, and I must admit that I also haven't seen so many ill-placed posts anywhere yet. Maybe the One-Forum is like a magnet, lol. Or it really is some deliberate action.
Those threads are taken care of if reported or if seen by coincidence. But we don't open every thread in Q&A. And at least the ones I have moved today were not recognizable as misplaced from the thread title. Or would you see from "Never worked" that the poster meant his SGS3?
So I close this now.
It seems there has been some kind of technical issue, which meant threads ended up in this forum, without actually having been posted in this forum.
I'm so greatful for the knowledge and resourses I gave found on XDA.
But one thing I have noticed as of late is the latest ROMs and even some of the mods that are being posted. Do not seem to be ready to be posted.
I can only speak for myself when I say that I couldn't just go out tomorrow and replace my $500 phone.
I know that most developers have full time jobs and families and lives aside from developing ROMs.
I see all too often stuff being posted for download that doesn't seem to be stable.
I for one have learned to read every page as sort a defense mechanism. But what about the inexperienced rooter or modder? I realize its not the developers fault if he bricks his phone. But I feel as a developer it is his responsibility to help protect us from such things to post quality links.
I'm definitely not trying to bash anyone.
Only recognizing a pattern of things I've seen as of late.

Thanks for your feedback OP, and since you notice items...I noticed this....why not take up Development yourself and keep in mind no one is making you or any others flash/tweak/modd devices.
