WAAAY better then aHome and what aHome is SUPPOSE to be like.
Email from the DEV.
To all aHome users,
Thank you once again for purchasing our product.
As most of you may know, mAPPn has recently established a partnership with T-Mobile, a prominent telecommunications company based in the United States. As per our partnership with T-Mobile, we have now released FreshFace, a home-shell customization application based on aHome and designed exclusively for T-Mobile's new Google Phone, the MyTouch 3G.
As mentioned above, FreshFace is sponsored and co-published by T-Mobile and is free to download. As a result of this partnership and restructured application, the aHome Lite version (the free version of aHome) will no longer be published. The aHome paid edition, however, will be kept on the market and we will continue to develop more features for this application.
To further clarify this issue, we feel it is necessary to differentiate between both FreshFace and aHome. Firstly, FreshFace for T-Mobile has a better User Interface design than aHome, however aHome can work on both G1 as well as MyTouch 3G. In addition, it is important to note that some features that are available on aHome are not available on FreshFace for T-Mobile. We understand that this may be troublesome for T-Mobile's G1 users, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
Let us reassure you once again, however, that the aHome full-version users need not worry about having to download the new Freshface, as the aHome full-version will still continue to be available within the Android Market as well as function normally on the new mobile devices.
Once again, we thank you for your patience and we shall continue updating aHome as promised. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely yours,
mAPPn Inc.

Uhh yea? I tried it it works. IT WORKS for the G1 too.
Cool Cool Thanks!
Was hoping it would be a little more visually appealing like Hero. Not necessarily as high tech... but some of the widgets and themes look pretty basic.
However, it was just released so I won't be too critical. It shows promise.
im using it now, i am very pleased with it. WAY better than aHome even though its probably of the same platform lol. it seems to be much more stable. I love all the widget options. the movie times widget is so great!

Dang. Well it was on the market for the few hours. But now it seems as it has been pulled. Anyone (if it's within proper legalities of course) pull the apk before they took it down?

I'll try to get some when I get back if no one else already did....
But it looks just like a themed Android desktop with 5 screens. Im pretty sure most of the themes you can download from their repository are also available in the market.
did this just get removed from the market?

anyone have the apk?
I'd post the APK, but since they took it down (for a reason I'm sure) I'm not sure how cool the mods would be with it here and I dont feel like gettin a ban today.
it should be fine cause its a free application.

How's the performance with this? Does it run "on top of" normal home or instead of like Launcher.apk/Rosie.apk?
So when I first got the captivate I was disappointed that my buddy with the incredible could side-load apps and I could not... So what did I do? I rooted it and enabled side-loading... now that was over a month or more ago and I have yet to install one non-market app... What are you guys using for apps that are not on the market?
MiKandi, for the gay porn.
Seriously though, I don't think most people sideload non-market apps, or at least I haven't really found anything worthwhile outside of the market, especially since the captivate comes with Swype pre-installed. I've sideloaded some beta software that isn't found in the market, like firefox mobile, and some other stuff that disappeared from the market after my 2.2 upgrade (new york times mobile), but none of them are must-have apps. Most of the sideloading I do is just to test my own programs, since the sdk's simulator runs slow on my computer. It's nice to have the option though, even if you don't currently need it.
Also, if I remember right, some game companies don't sell their stuff on the market, like assassin's creed and whatnot. I'd imagine you'd have to be able to install non-market apps to install those.

I'm more likely to buy an app if I can try it first, but let's just ignore the grey area in favor of your simplistic, black and white worldview. Piracy bad!

err, your logic is entirely flawed just fyi. if you knew anything about the android market, you'd know you have up to 24 hours after purchasing an app to refund and uninstall it. so you saying "I search for apps so I can try them before I purchase them" is, at best, ridiculously misinformed.
do the right thing and buy the app, if it isn't to your liking, refund it. on any other platform, where this process doesn't exist, I'd give you a break. but android specifically has this setup to avoid exactly what you're saying you do.
edit: should add that the main benefit of enabling sideloading for me is restoring apps through titanium backup after reflashing my phone.

Please highlight the sentence where I said anything close to "I pirate apps." I'll wait...
Seriously, you're putting words in my mouth. But for the sake of argument, I'll add that sometimes 24 hours just isn't enough time to determine whether an expensive app like Doggcatcher (a $7 podcast app) is the best available option. I need time to see how it works in different situations, ie how well it streams while I'm at work vs my house, bluetooth vs line-out, how it reacts to different roms, etc. I was forced to take a gamble and buy the app without testing it in every situation I encounter.
If you read my actual statement rather than simply making up your own, you'd see that all I was saying is that there's a gray area. It's more complicated than piracy bad, riaa good.

Tunee music. But I think I saw in the market now. I used it for a couple songs then thought to myself "self this can't be legal" downloading almost any song you can think of to your phone for free... "self, maybe the record companies made tunee music so they can get richer off poor people that download music for free"
So I do NOT want to be like the lady that downloaded 24 songs and now has to pay something like 1.5 million dollars now. So bye bye it went. I dont have a spare 1.5 mill
But it is a cool app. I originally had to.sideload it. Got it from tuneemusic.net Again I think I saw it.in the market.now.
EDIT:Yep.it is the market now. Just searched for it but DIDNT download

When I was on WM6.1 I was using .lit files and Microsoft Reader. At least it remembered what page I am on.
Now I use WordPlayer app to read ePub format. www.Baen.com remembers what books you ever got and I can always re-download those in ePub format. WordPlayer will also "talk" to Calibre Library (Free & runs on your "big" computer). Calibre will convert any format eBook to any format. Calibre will also act as a Reader on your desktop. You will eventually move all eBooks into it.
I end up using WordPlayer setup with a black screen (less power) and white letters. Dim or brightning as needed.
Understand that by giving away the first books in a series (or older books) by their top Authors, Baen is like a Drug Dealer giving you a Free Taste!

I've prepared a version of PSA with live scanning from video... the focusing could be tweeked a little bit, but it works very well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaD33QtOeqA
I've forgotten to switch the ui culture to english so the app in the video is german, but it is availiable in all marketplace supported languages too.
Please feel free to comment...
Update to version 2.0:
The new version (will hit the marketplace in a few days) supports live tile notifications for observed products and will notify you over the psa icon on your homescreen about new offers for watched products.
I've been trying this app since your first version as it was something I was looking forward to having. It has, since then made leaps and bounds and works very well. I've just updated to the latest version, but the video mode isn't there? When will you be updating the marketplace version?
Thanks, James.

Hello James,
the version with live scanning from the video will be ready tomorrow (I've included the possibility to activate the flashlight to scan under bad light conditions and have tweeked my barcode detection algorythm a little bit).
but... using the camera api is not "legal", so I dont't know if this version will pass the marketplace certification. If it will not I, will upload this version in the moment MS takes down the restictitions on the camera api.
This is a nice work with live scan.
Is it possible to include the QR barcode scan? If it does, it will be amazing.
Thanks
Just stumbled upon this app and had to buy it right away, makes a very nice change to see a working barcode scanner app for wp7 and one which also caters for the european market and not usa!
Keep up the excellent work.
Thanks for the nice app. Just bought it. Hope the live scanning features gets approved!

At the moment QR-codes are not planned to implement, becaus "Personal Shopping Assist" was designed to optimize your real world shopping experience. And EAN/UPC-barcodes are the world wide most used barcode types for product ids. And every new barcode type makes the scanning a little bit slower.
Are QR codes used for product id's? if yes can you make an example?
Thanks for your help
QR code scan is a must.
Looks nice, can't wait to use!

looks nice, but why aren't you using http://developer.android.com/reference/android/accounts/AccountManager.html ?
Asking for login/pass with internet permissions will be suspicious to many users, especially when it's unnecessary for what you're doing.

Looks nice, though as ZanshinG1 pointed out, Account Manager would be a much better way of using the Google account.

Better than Newsr? How does it compare?
I quite like the look of this, but I'm really loathe to buy a Reader app when it's only a matter of time until Google themselves release one that's optimized for tablets. I haven't bought Newsr for the same reason.
If you release an ad supported version then I'd jump all over it.
We just released version 1.1 with integrated credentials support - enjoy!
Again, thanks for the input

Maybe we will release an ad version. But we would rather not bloat the interface with ads. I dont think google will release a good reader app for tablets, the browser one is no good and the one for phones isnt really great either in my opinion. Thats why we thought of doing one that looks the way we want for our selves..

As it works now, the news wont get marked as read. When you sync it purges the news and downloads new news. So you can decide, tell us how you want it and we will make it work like that.
Newsr is a small investment and very good. Actively developed. Even if Google releases its own Reader app that you prefer, you will have gotten your money's worth. What I really want is a scrollable Reader widget which allows me to select which feed or label I want in the widget.
I like the look of this Honey Reader. When it sorts out the login Account Manager issue, I'll give it a whirl. Price is fair, too. I think people forget they can still do 15 minute try and return for no cost if they want. It's important that we support a development community for Droid if we want it to become as robust as Apple's.
Edit: just realized the account manager issue is resolved. Off to try this now.

You will have those apps on any phone you use as long as you use the same Microsoft account that purchased them. On a new phone it will say "Buy", but after you click it, the marketplace recognizes that you've already purchased the apps and will allow you to download them.
Or just log in to windowsphone.com, look at your purchased list of apps and reinstall whatever you want from the browser. They'll be sent to your phone automatically.
One thing to be aware of though: it seems that 20 or so XBox Live Games have compatibility issues with WP8 and are therefore currently not available on WP8 if you look for them in the store. Some of the Devs are working on adapting their Games but as far as WPCentral found out not all of them.
But in general: yes, the purchases are tied to your Microsoft Account (Live ID) and will therefore be available on your new device as well.
