2nd-init and CWM/Custom Recovery - Motorola Droid Bionic

I see all of this talk about CWM and ROM Manager, and Custom Recovery, and now a Custom ROM. But since our bootloader is locked, are these loaded through 2nd-init?
Searched around, couldn't seem to find the answer I was looking for.
Thank You.

No, search harder.

Help with Moto Droid.

Hello this is my first time here and this is very different than the xperia play section. Well my friend has a moto droid and.I would like to know how to.root it and unlock the bootloader. Also what is the fastest and most stable rom? Thank you for your time

...first off, wrong section. This should be in Q&A.
Second off following any of the below advice is at your own risk (mainly because this is 100% from memory and I can remember things wrong sometimes ). Before you trust what I tell you I recommend reading the Q&A section, as I assure you you're not the first person to ask how to root the first android phone to be offered by Americas largest carrier.
The OG Droid doesn't require anything to unlock the boot loader, its not locked.
Since its on such an outdated version of android pretty much any generic one click root tool should work to get root. Try super one click or the like. From there you should be able to use rom manager to flash a current recovery. Then just put one of the fine roms from these here development forums on the SD card and have fun.

Can someone post a guide or someting about how to make the phone faster? anyway want rom do u recommend?
Do a search on here, there have been plenty of threads, also check out droid forums, they have stuff too. That's how I learned a lot just reading. Once you've rooted its easy. A good app to check out since you're rooted is rom manager, set cpu, titanium backup, wireless tether, file manager. Always make a nandroid backup before flashing a rom or kernel( provides overclock)

you can download rsd lite and flash the clockworkmod recovery spf. It won't root your phone, but it will give you a recovery(which is better). Now just install your custom rom. I recommend cyanogenmod 7 or steel droid for stability and speed, their also pre-rooted, maybe find a Overclocked kernel if you want INSANE speeds...
Cyanogenmod 7 for droid 1: http://oss.reflected.net/stable/update-cm-7.1.0-Droid-signed.zip
Google Apps: http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
Steel Droid 10.5(I REALLY RECOMMEND this is what I USE, it's also overclocked to 1ghz) http://bravo.d-h.st/PfV?key=1340527851
SN:Google apps not needed with steel droid.
If you need more help here's a guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Droid_2:_Full_Update_Guide
Hope this helps you friend... There may come a time when you have to do all the research yourself... if so remember, Google's your friend too!!!:good:

Flashing Rom problem.

Hello. I have an HTC Vivid. I did the Hansoon all in in one root kit with no trouble but then when I put a custom Rom on my sd card and tried to flash it, it gets stuck at the boot screen.
My question is do I have to be S-off in order to flash New Roms? Because I am having trouble reading these guides. I don't fully understand without a video of some sort.
I rooted my Inspire without a problem and had that for quite some time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
You don't have to be s-off to flash ROMs, but if you're s-on you will need to fastboot flash the kernel when you flash the ROM to get it to work right. That's all s-off really does. Allows kernels to be flashed in recovery.
There are plenty of tutorials out there for everything to do with flashing this stuff. Search around and do a whole lot of reading.

Now when you say fast boot the kernel you mean flash it from the boot loader screen? I will try and read more. Inspire we're not this hard. One program got s-off and rooted. Vivid too many different steps.

Yes. and one program simplified it so much that people who had no business modifying their phone drove attn1 almost to insanity. This way, you have to read, and read some more. And actually understand what you're doing.
I loved attn1's tool, it was AMAZING! I just felt so bad for the support he had to give...
Well I figured it out and got the Pac man Rom on my Vivid. This thing runs smooth. I'm so happy to have figured this out.
Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

[Q] How do I update a rooted device without stock recovery?

I rooted the phone and replaced the stock recovery a while ago. I keep getting these damn notifications to upgrade, I know it doesn work with a modified recover. It's beginning to annoy me.
What would be the easiest way to upgrade the HTC one?

Where can I find the prerooted stock roms?
I'm not quite ready for a custom ROM. I've been following the progress of a couple though. It always seems like there is never a final version to custom ROMS and usually a couple useful features are sometimes missing.

Same forum you find the custom ROMS in.
And even with stock ROMs there's never a final version, hence you wanting to update the device. Read, learn, get your feet wet.
Otherwise, just reflash stock recovery and let it update when there's an update.

Thanks, I've been to the deep end and back. Been lurking since thread one. You see I've been around a long time and don't post very often. I browsed through all 9 pages of the htc One android development threads but didn't find it. I did a couple of searches and didn't find it, I posted in the questions hoping to get links for reference and well because that what it is there for.
Edit: I looked again and found it. Thanks again for your help.

Should work the same as the S4 MF update that locked down the bootloader. You should be able to root but as for custom roms and CWM/TWRP we're out of luck.
Coming from a S4 running CM10.2 I'm not going to like using the standard rom but will get used to it I guess.
So even with the bootlegged locked we should be able to tour so we can use TB to backup and restore?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk 4
I have a locked MF3 firmware S4 and I'm running 3 different ROMs that are hot swappable thanks to Safestrap developed my Hashcode so even with a locked bootloader you can do something. Only thing is for now we are limited to internal storage for the ROM slots can't create them on external SD card but Hashcode has been working on that. Also we can only flash TW ROMs since we can't flash a custom kernel but that is also being worked on, I believe they want to be able flash a kernel with kexec. I have an AT&T S4 and currently swapping between an international Foxhound ROM, Google Play ROM, and well the stock ROM.

At this point I'd be happy with just root so I can use Titanium Backup.
Would be nice if we could get Loki.

Even tho I don't have any phone that has a bootloader. (i don't live in the USA Neither)
But if your Bootloader is locked you cannot Flash CWM or TWRP or flash custom roms (Because they need CWM or TWRP).
Sorry if I'm wrong. I don't have any phone with locked bootloader. Hope this helps.

Ditto... which is why I am returning my AT&T Note 3 less than 24 hrs after I purchased it.
My fault for not researching the bootlocker issue, but no way am I going to give up Titanium Backup. It has saved my tail more than once.
I'm also coming from an att S4. There has not been a bootloader unlock exploit but they do have some work around exploits like loki & safestrape. Loki is out bc they've already patched that so at this point I just hope we get root bc without that you don't have a fighting chance at custom roms
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
All I want to do is remove the AT&T bloat as well as the Samsung bloat. When I took my stock Note 2 and installed Cleanrom on it it felt like the phone got a cpu boost. Everything was smoother and faster.
With root, can we uninstall crap that is blocked from being removed while stock? I can live with a locked bootloader if I can just get as close to a stripped rom as possible. I'm pretty new to this stuff so forgive the newbie question.

How do I flash a custom recovery?

I'm stock rooted 12b and I can't seem to find where there are instructions on how to get on a custom recovery. Please look me to it! Preferably cwm, but I'll take twrp as well. Thanks a bunch and I'm very sorry. I did search and I fear I just missed it.

very easily done just get freegee "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee_free" this will unlock bootloader, and install either cwm or twrp. from there you can update either with their own apps "goo manager for twrp and rom manager for cwm"
Find the twrp.img and flash via adb. 2.6.3.3 or 2.7.0.0
on the move..
Ended up using Flahify. Found it in another thread. Thanks everyone for your help though. Mods feel free to lock this.
