Can someone tell me what we will actually be able to download if bootloader remains looked? Can we flash certain types of Rom or mods? Or can we do nothing?

Should work the same as the S4 MF update that locked down the bootloader. You should be able to root but as for custom roms and CWM/TWRP we're out of luck.
Coming from a S4 running CM10.2 I'm not going to like using the standard rom but will get used to it I guess.
So even with the bootlegged locked we should be able to tour so we can use TB to backup and restore?

I have a locked MF3 firmware S4 and I'm running 3 different ROMs that are hot swappable thanks to Safestrap developed my Hashcode so even with a locked bootloader you can do something. Only thing is for now we are limited to internal storage for the ROM slots can't create them on external SD card but Hashcode has been working on that. Also we can only flash TW ROMs since we can't flash a custom kernel but that is also being worked on, I believe they want to be able flash a kernel with kexec. I have an AT&T S4 and currently swapping between an international Foxhound ROM, Google Play ROM, and well the stock ROM.

At this point I'd be happy with just root so I can use Titanium Backup.
Would be nice if we could get Loki.

Even tho I don't have any phone that has a bootloader. (i don't live in the USA Neither)
But if your Bootloader is locked you cannot Flash CWM or TWRP or flash custom roms (Because they need CWM or TWRP).
Sorry if I'm wrong. I don't have any phone with locked bootloader. Hope this helps.

Ditto... which is why I am returning my AT&T Note 3 less than 24 hrs after I purchased it.
My fault for not researching the bootlocker issue, but no way am I going to give up Titanium Backup. It has saved my tail more than once.
I'm also coming from an att S4. There has not been a bootloader unlock exploit but they do have some work around exploits like loki & safestrape. Loki is out bc they've already patched that so at this point I just hope we get root bc without that you don't have a fighting chance at custom roms

All I want to do is remove the AT&T bloat as well as the Samsung bloat. When I took my stock Note 2 and installed Cleanrom on it it felt like the phone got a cpu boost. Everything was smoother and faster.
With root, can we uninstall crap that is blocked from being removed while stock? I can live with a locked bootloader if I can just get as close to a stripped rom as possible. I'm pretty new to this stuff so forgive the newbie question.

That's cool. Haven't really needed it o this phone yet tho. The e4gt on the other hand, mobile Odin was practically a must and saved so much time.

Not to sound ignorant but what exactly is the benefits/features of having Odin on our phones?

I hear you. It was critical on the E4GT but don't really see the need on our phone. Cool that it still supports it though.

If you are already rooted, yes. I know this makes no sense. If you are no root originally, no. Mop needs root to work. Flash a non rooted tar and use the root feature, then at least with my e4gt, it would do it. Mop won't work stock. I haven't had the need yet to use it on the s4. If I did, I'd probably try flashing stock MDL, inject root, and install oudhs recovery all in one shot. Theoretically it should work.

Do you know where I can find stock MDL? When the OTA dwnlded to my phone I was so paranoid about losing and not being able to regain root that I avoided installing, and even uninstalled SamPushService at one point. Of course, since then a work a round's been developed, but now I can't access the dwnld even though it's indicated to be there. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Angie.
EDIT:Found it, about 2 threads down. Duh!

Ah yes, I have many a memory of flashing the EL29 kernel/recovery with Mobile Odin in order to flash a rom. It was so irritating having to re-flash recovery every time I wanted to flash a rom on that phone.

You can't flash ROMS on the ATT Note 3 yet. There is safe strap that is still in Alpha testing and is not yet 100% working. It however is not a true root and eats up a large amount of internal memory where the image file of the ROM is stored. There is a thread on Safestrap and how it works. Use it at your own risk. Outside of that it is IMPOSSIBLE to flash an ATT Note 3 right now..

The issue is that even with safe strap you can't flash any ROM. The ROM first has to be tailored to work with and around safe strap since it is not truly a ROM but a bootloader bypass and works a little differently. So until developers either jump on board and tweak ROMS to work with safestrap or they wait till the bootloader is unlocked, there are no ROMS right now to flash..

I said you could not flash them reliably and have them 100% functional. There is still testing being conducted on all the ROMS claimed to work and no one has confirmed 100% functionality with all apps and hardware. So they are still not certified reliable like a real flash would be..
If you have tested the three you have used 100% on both hardware and apps then you need to get in there and say so because they are looking for 100% proof of function confirmation..
Not going to argue semantics with you.
I will say that I have flashed to rom slots 1 thru 4 and the stock slot and restored backups to them all with no issues. And am currently running the ported xnote7 with no issues at all. So yes, roms can be installed to AT&T Note3 phones.

Have you been actively participating in the development of this phone? I've been doing this for years and I'll be honest. 99% of custom rooms do not run 100% perfect or functional. That being said, instead of telling everyone we can't flash ROMS. Why not tell them what we do have and let him decide if it is what He is looking for.

HAHA nice!!! yeah i put the xnote rom on last night so far no issues at all runs smooth and i love it!! just wish everything didnt take up a bunch of the internal memory but hey its a sweet rom so whatever
I am just going by all the "this does not work, or this fails, or my apps no longer load" and the list goes one of post in the SS thread right now.. For some it maybe stable but it seems the majority is having more problems then they had with stock.

Just to be clear, this is the forum for the S4 Active which is a different phone than the regular S4. That said, it really depends on which version of the S4 Active you have:
If you have the AT&T version (i537), then you can root, but you cannot install custom recovery due to a locked bootloader (stupid AT&T). You can still install custom ROMs using SafeStrap, but you are limited to TouchWiz based ROMs.
If you have the International version (i9295), then you can root and install custom recovery (the bootloader is unlocked), so you can pretty much install whatever you want.
I hope this helps, check out the Development section of this forum for more information.

Is there any roms released for the Galaxy s5 att? I just installed the safestrap recovery. I was hoping to flash cyanogenmod to my phone if they have a compatible rom released for my phone. And i was also wandering if i could install a rom made for the verizon phone or lets say the international version to my phone? Or does the rom have to be made specifically for the att galaxy s5? Thank you.

Ok thanks, I have a few questions though. I installed safestrap, but isn't the bootloader still locked? Or did installing safestrap unlock it? And if so, can I flash a ROM directly from safestrap? Or do I have to use a computer? I thought my device is s-on since I never changed that lol. This is my first Samsung device, sorry for all of the questions.

Yes Your Bootloader is locked
No SafeStrap did not unlock it
Yes You can flash a ROM from SafeStrap (similar to flashing any other rom)
(make sure you choose install recovery from the app first)
just reboot to recovery (through the safestrap application backup your existing rom
and flash your shinny new custom rom.

Can you do a nandroid backup of everything on your phone with safestrap?
And we can install safestrap on AT&T no problem right?
Safestrap is just a way to get a custom recovery installed. Safestrap adds a menu to the boot up process that allows you to boot into twrp recovery. You can do anything you want there, except flash kernels.
