[Q] Email App Not Auto Syncing - LG Thrill 4G

My email app is set to check the server every 15 minutes for messages but it is not doing it. The only way I can get email is if I manually push the sync button. What gives? Also, when I reply to an email, every word is capitalized and it's annoying. It's Like I Am Typing Like This. Is this phone a joke?

Do you have background data turned on? How about auto sync? What email app are you using? Stock rom?
Sent from my Thrill 4G using Tapatalk

Stock ROM. Phone is only a few days old. Auto Sync is on. Background Data is on. Using the program just called "EMAIL" that was on the phone. I think there is something else going on too. When the phone is idle, and charging with the supplied cord and plug, it takes 8+ hours to charge from 5% to full.

The capitalizing problem is an issue with Swype Keyboard. Doesn't happen with other keyboards, only Swype in the stock email program.

Could maybe a task manager or app manager be killing the email service?

Is there any way to fix the Swype capitalizing problem in the stock email program? I've tried SlideIt and a couple other keyboards.

G1 kind of controlling itself

After i reset my phone this morning my apps seem to keep starting themselves up draining my battery down with me not using. after 2 hours i was down to 85% from full battery with using my phone for anything. It seemed like every app that used the internet or ran in the background would start up. I had to keep cutting them off every 5 minutes through the advanced task manager. The apps that would start are: ak notepad, alarm clock, browser, email, fbook, gmail, handcent, k-9, lock 2.0, market, and messaging. i understand why the email and gmail would open up but all the others that i could remember werent even used after the first time i noticed it would happen.
Any body know why my phone would do this?
well, lock 2.0 should be running because it is your lock screen and should be able to pop up as soon as you wake the phone, email and gmail are obvious, fbook is checking facebook for updates and such most likely through browser, if i remember correctly k-9 is an email client(correct me if i'm wrong) so that should be obvious too. market may be checking for updates and alarm clock might be running if you have an alarm set. i don't know what handcent is so i have no idea why it would be running, but 15% in 2 hours doesn't seem too bad i get about 5 hours out of a full battery, i would love to have the 15% in 2 hours as that would be much better than me current battery life. i may or may not be correct in my survey of what is going on with your phone but it seems logical in my mind.
Yea i thought that myself but it still seems like som eof the apps should close afterwards. Handcent is another type of sms client which i had used all the time for my texting. But even if i didnt use an app like messaging, calendar, and camera(are the other ones i forgot to post) shouldnt be running without me opening them up or an alarm or message downloading. which is not the case with some of them. unless apps running in the back should start when i cut it on?
Why don't you remove stock email if you have K-9? You can also replace AK notepad with something that doesn't autostart. Same thing for messaging programs. Voice Dialer can be removed if you don't use it. This is 4 programs already that you wouldn't have to worry about
There is nothing wrong. I was paranoid about this too before, I uninstalled task manager and my worries are gone haha. I didn't feel my G1 was getting bogged down speedy wise or anything. (hint hint, try the new SetCPU tool, its great and free for XDA users!)

Facebook Notifications not working? Possible real Fix...

Hello.
I was having trouble with the facebook notifications not working in 1.5.2.
I tried to uninstall/install the app
Clear cache
Installed 1.5.0
Re-flash ROM
etc etc etc...
And nothing worked.
I logged with a friends Facebook account in my Captivate and Push notifications were working !!
I re-logged to with my account and notifications still not working, so WTF?
So I started to mess around with the Facebook settings, privacy etc, and nothing helped to receive push notifications...
Until I deactivated my account and re-activated, and now I have notifications back! Is like a hidden setting in facebook that tells if push notifications are enable/disable, and after re-activating my account in some way is restores it, no idea but is working now...
If you have this problem, give it a try!
To deactivate: Account->Account Settings->Deactivate Account
To Activate: just log in.
Best Regards
Trying it now ... I've tried everything else... hope this works ...
EDIT: HOLY MONKEYS BATMAN IT WORKED! I'VE HAD MY DINC FOR 7 MONTHS NOW, WITH PROBABLY 12 DIFFERENT ROMS, AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS EVER EVER WORKED! Thankyou!
Details:
I just flashed the newest version of Magnolia with Clockwork 3.x. Clean slate wipe (other than sd).
I deleted the old version of fb that came with the rom (just from the app list in settings), cleared all data from that....DID NOT set up facebook for HTC Sense when doing original setup of phone right after reflash.....
Logged onto FB from my pc, deactivated, waited until I got the email, then logged in again.
DL latest FB from the market and set it up, asked someone to comment on a status, and voila, fb started notifying me EVERY TIME someone did, not just every 30 mins like the settings show...
YAYAYAYAY!! I'm so happy now! I'm gonna pass the word along.
Thank you!
Did it work for you?
Yes - see above edited post!
Or just log in to fb, register phone and check boxes to receive SMS alerts. Faster than the 1 hour intervals.

My notifications are popping up in real-time. The only thing that goes once hourly is messages or friend requests, as far as I can tell. I'm watching my facebook on my computer and my phone alerts me nearly at the same moment my pc does.
umm... ??
deactivate my facebook account? message posted day before april fools day...
something doesnt add up
You can do that without deleting your profile. I hear of people deactivating it everytime they log off for privacy concerns. When deactivated you dont show up on any of your friends pages or searches. Just log on to reactivate, you'll get an email welcoming you back.
you dont loose anything?
Nope. Not that I know of. Check out cnn story. http://articles.cnn.com/2010-11-12/...ngs-new-facebook-facebook-accounts?_s=PM:TECH

ClockworkMod DesktopSMS: Sending and receiving texts from your XOOM (and desktop)

DesktopSMS forwards all your incoming SMS on your *Android Phone* to your Gmail to GTalk.
You can then reply to the chat request or email, and the response will be sent back from your phone as a text message. This is very similar to Google Voice, except you won't need a new number or anything annoying like that!
http://app.net/desktopsms
Installation:
1) Install DesktopSMS on your ANDROID PHONE. (Not onto your XOOM)
2) Login to Desktop SMS on your ANDROID ****PHONE****.
3) Install a Chat client like Google Talk (which may already be on your XOOM) onto your XOOM or desktop PC.
4) Receive a text. Watch as your text gets converted to an email and google chat message
5) Respond!
So, once again, this app is only installed on your phone. Then just install your favorite IM client on your desktop and tablet, and the rest will work magically!
You do not need to install this on both your phone and tablet like other apps. You do not need to be on the same network like other apps. This all works by magic (my servers).
Let me know what you think. This is in a free beta right now, so be prepared for some bugs! I'd love to hear your feedback.
Wrote you a PM
well, I don't have a smart phone so thats a problem.
I, like many others, have ditched their smartphomes and activated their xooms. I now only have a dummy phone. I didn't see a need in paying for two data plans because I ws rarey using my phone. Now I use it to talk and text.... even though I wish it was only to talk.
I am waiting for the day that I can SMS on my Xoom using my current phone number. Guess I'll jabe to keep waiting. lol
Works awesome...just had a conversation with myself, through gtalk. Hahaha havnt tried it with my xoom yet. But im pretty sure it will work just fine. Very good job
It looks great but I cannot seem to get it to work yet, Mr. Koush. I have it signed it with push notifications successfully on my gmail account on my OG Droid. I can do the test message from within the app and it pops up on my phone like always, but other than that it does nothing on my Xoom, or on anything else for that matter. It seems almost like the push notifications are not even being sent out.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I had the default messaging app totally disabled, as I am using Handcent SMS as a complete replacement to the default one. I would like to use Handcent SMS instead of the default one. I know its beta and I cannot wait for updates!

I had that same "issue" so thanks for posting the solution. User error as usual
Is there a way to make the contact name show up or will we need to add these email addresses to our contacts? Thanks and awesome job!

It looks like after you receive your first text from that person after you accepted the "chat invite" on your Gtalk account it syncs up with your current contact list automatically. It shows the phone number on the left side of the screen under your gmail account, but in the chat window it shows that contacts name in parenthesis.
This ofcourse is for if you are using the Xoom with Gtalk, such as myself. I haven't tried anything else yet.
Could it be that the contacts NAME will be in the gtalk LIST instead of phonenumber ?
OK, being a bit thick here.
I'm using GoSMS Pro, but as far as I know, the default messaging app is still active, just without any notifications... does this make a difference?
Not currently receiving any notifications in email or g-talk... :/

*edit* update took care of it, never mind.
@Koush
I am having an issue getting the app to try it out. When I tell the system to send me a link, it does, but it sends me a link for the link request page again. It does not send me a link to the actual app.
EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Shouldn't browse until I had my coffee.

Is it possible that your push servers are blocked in China?
I can correctly Login with Google Account, but get an error on 'registering with push server....' (takes long and eventually times out)
Error message: "Login failed. Please check your password. If the error persists, please send a log to the developer"
here is a log... maybe it helps analyze why i can't connect with the push servers...
Ok, it's just updated, and when I go to send a test SMS, it brings up
The application GoSMS was found installed. If you do not recieve a text message, please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings.

So that's cool, then I send the test. GoSMS then pops up the text, as it always does.
However, it still doesn't appear to be sending me an email.
When it says "please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings", does it mean the default Messaging app?
I've tested by disabling the taskbar notification for GoSMS and re-enabling it for the default Messaging app, but even then, there is no sound nor visual cue that an SMS has arrived... is this why it's not working? Has GoSMS broken my default messaging app?

3rd Party Applications - SMS incoming timestamp delay

I've scoured the forums for an answer but all of these seemed to be pointing to the actual stock SMS app or another like Handcent.
What I'm talking about is that on third party applications that send SMS data to a server, the timestamp (apparently for all motorola phones) is delayed on applications such as:
DeskSMS
Web Desktop
LazyDroid
I'm experiencing this problem. Although on texting applications on the phone the timestamp is correct, on these third party applications that send information to my computer the time is around 4-5 hours behind.
Any theories/fixes? I have a feeling the normal time fix app won't work for this...
It's a known problem for all text messaging functions (phone and tied to PC). It has to do with how the date codes are stored in the text message database (which all SMS programs use). If you use SMS Backup and Restore to backup, then view your messages, all your received would be a few hours older.
On the phone, Go SMS works just fine (probably reads and writes to the database itself, instead of going through Motorola's crappy SMS programming). Dunno about the PC end. Although if you use LazyDroid and GO SMS at the same time, you'll get two copies of the same message: correct and old dated. Not the best workaround, but it's something.
Technically speaking, the Motorola coding (with Stock and apparently Handcent use to interface with the database) causes the date to be written as if your local current time IS the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT 0). When another program reads the code without using the Motorola programming, it tries to convert the
"GMT" to your time zone. So for me on the East Coast of the US, I'm on GMT-5. Add a difference of 1 for Daylights savings time in the US, and my messages are 4 hours old.
I don't have any issues. I get texts basically instantly from chrome to phone as well with the stock messaging services.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
i'm going to bump this because I have a weird issue.
i use GO SMS Pro and wanted to use Light Flow to control the LED on the device. When you disable GO SMS native notification settings and uncheck the 'block other notifications' it allows the Light Flow controls to work, but I see the issue where all the received timestamps are 5 hours behind (I'm in the eastern time zone). However, if i do check the 'block other notifications' it works fine, but Light Flow blocks all use of the LED for text messaging. Kind of annoying since I don't see how Light Flow can reveal this bug, but after uninstalling the issue goes away.

I'd assume you do not use your phone on Verizon. Anyways - there is an app on the market called SMS Time Fix. I think it can solve your issue without having to replace standard SMS client.
I was using go sms for like 14 hrs. Deleted it, tho. It was nice to theme it but for some reason it kept reverting my theme to the default and or would revert some aspects of it while keeping others.
Ill just wait for a rom, I don't really have that big of an issue with the stock app.

Not sure if you're on a Droid3, but my SMS Time Fix doesn't work all the time on my Bell XT860 (running on Rogers). How has your experience been? Most of the time it gets the right timestamp, but sometimes it doesn't. Is there any way I can tell if the task manager is killing the app or...?

I am indeed using Bell XT860 on Rogers. SMS timestamp fix works fine for me. Without it installed messages are stamped with GMT time.
Beside installing it you need to open it, set it active (it is disabled by default) and choose method to correct time (adjustment method) - select top one - Time zone.

how does stamina mode work?

Looking to get some insight into stamina mode. If i enable it will i still recieve all my notifications? i see it says it shuts off data when screen is off. So do i need to add like hangouts to the ignore list? will i still get regular SMS and MMS messages? Someone explain it to me like im 5 please
Stamina mode restricts data connection when the screen off. For sms, it doesnt need an internet connection so it will pass through.
Turn on stamina mode and add exception to some apps you need notification through when you're not using your phone. In my case, it's only whatsapp that has been excluded.

if I add all my apps that give push notifications (e-mail, social media, transit, etc), does it essentially defeat the purpose of using stamina?

Stamina and Gmail
Is anyone successfully using Stamina mode with extended standby and having Gmail whitelisted?
I get no notification from Gmail and the problem seems to be that while my phone receives the push notification from Google that new mail is available it just queues the update for my Gmail account. I assume this from looking at the sync settings for my Google account where it shows a reload or refresh icon beside the Gmail entry.
But after unlocking the phone the synchronization does not happen. I even waited for several hours but nothing happens. I wonder for what the phone is waiting until is starts the sync. Manually syncing in that situation immediately shows the new mail.
Currently I ended up turning off the extended standby and only using the lowered hardware performance from Stamina mode. Its a pity because WhatsApp and Hangouts notifications don't have this problem.
So i used this and only whitelisted hangouts, turned on the stamina clock and i feel like i get better battery with it turned off, i did not see any increase in using it, am i doing something wrong?
