This is probably stupid question but.... I rooted my hero today and flashed a Rom to it, do I need to flash a kernel? If so then whaT is the best kernel to use? Thanks in advance.

The stock kernel is fine unless you want to overclock. If you want to Overclock you want ToastCFC's godmode kernel.
Thanks man I really appreciate it. Is the speed noticeBly better when overclocking? and I'm running damages 2.09.1, what should I overclock to for best performance? I'm sorry for being such a newb

Hi,
Maybe i am a bit ignorant, but i don't understand why for every rom there's a different kernel. It's not possible to have a universal one?
I'm using Gingercruzt 7.4 but there isn't a kernel for this rom... what am i supose to do?
You dont need other kernel for gc except stock one.....so dont do anythig just enjoy in GC...

Just as it for ROMs. Its better for users to have more choices. And for GC there isnt supported custom kernel ( maybe it will work with LDX or FXP kernel. Not sure). As thoose all custom kernels are still in early stages of development SE stock kernel is still good.
EDIT: @dsaklein you were faster ( so hard to type on X8)

Yes it is sometimes....

Yes i know that GC don't need a custom kernel, i just thought it was better to have only one CK, that's all.
Yes it would, but there wont be such forums like this....

This is only Myths about that.
Real dual touch for synaptic devices.
Higher max CPU overclock frequency.
Sim unlock your phone
GPU overclock.
Unlocked bootloader allows us flash updated kernels.
And new *fully working* kernel allow do everything
Here you might need to take a look at this:

Hi XZ users.I want to know that how can i overclock my Z and increase my Cpu? (to 2ghz) Please answer my question

in General in Android, I think you have to change your Kernel so that it support Overclocking, it doesn't mean you have to flash the whole ROM, there might be Kernel support "stock ROM" for Xperia Z that also have overclock functions.
Not too sure if you have to unlock your bootloader or not though, you need to do some research on the Kernel first.
Hope it helps
No you do not need to unlock bootloader.
