Hi,
Maybe i am a bit ignorant, but i don't understand why for every rom there's a different kernel. It's not possible to have a universal one?
I'm using Gingercruzt 7.4 but there isn't a kernel for this rom... what am i supose to do?
You dont need other kernel for gc except stock one.....so dont do anythig just enjoy in GC...

Just as it for ROMs. Its better for users to have more choices. And for GC there isnt supported custom kernel ( maybe it will work with LDX or FXP kernel. Not sure). As thoose all custom kernels are still in early stages of development SE stock kernel is still good.
EDIT: @dsaklein you were faster ( so hard to type on X8)

Yes it is sometimes....

Yes i know that GC don't need a custom kernel, i just thought it was better to have only one CK, that's all.
Yes it would, but there wont be such forums like this....

I just want to ask if there is an existing Froyo ROM which works well with a Custom Kernel?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
You can find any froyo rom and any custom kernel. It should work. You must try to know what's your most suitable..

No, they can't work together. Devs were saying something about kernels using Gingerbread Ram-disk and that they only work on Gingerbread ROMs.
take a Costum Kernel that doesn't has a Gingerbread Ramdisk, then delete all your modules from your rom and test it
Ohh. Thanks for the feedback. I don't have nuff knowledge about this stuffs.

hi guys
This is a noob question but which one is better?what is the reason that developers try to release their ROMs 4 stock kernels when they are custom ones out there?

Custom kernels can give you better performances and more options then Stock kernel. However, there are some phones that cant have their bootloader unlocked so they have to stick to stock kernel ( phone produced after 29th week of 2011 cant unlock bootloader).

As said by him , Custom ROM + Kernel give you a big boost in performance. If you can't unlock your bootloader go with GingerDX(the only one good for stock kernel)
if you can unlock go for GingerDX + Alfs kernel , by far the best in performance.

They still make roms for stock to support those who can't unlock their bootloader. For me, custom kernels are better, with only one problem: it drains a little bit more batt than the stock, but a boost in performance.
I use nAa-11 kernal, it have more updates then the others and a good performance. In nAa roms you have to use it, because the wifi is built in the kernel and not in the rom.
I hope it helped. Sorry my bad english
It the thanks if I helped
Tnx buddies
No currently i'm using nAa 11... i was just confused about this custom & stock stuff

Got many custom rom at forum.
Which custom is better, good batery life and performent?
I am newbie...
Custom for sure, because it improves performance of your phone. And also does other stuff but i think you will not understand.
I think primeHD and GingerDX are good for stock kernel

Helloo Everybody..
I will be really grateful if someone found a solution to my problem...
I know that this is not a support site, but a developers world, but after searching and googling, i couldnt help my self.
Mods can close and delete this thread if they want.
My question is that if I flash a Gingerbread kernel(nAa or Alfs) on ECLAIR 2.1...wont it create problems..such as force closing or rebooting sort of problems??
Secondly I read SpydeX thread of unlocking bootloader..i got all the tools ready, but the thread doesnt mentions anything about entering into recovery via kernel on ECLAIR 2.1... the guide just tells that after flashing entr into recovery and flash the rom.
I tried this trick on my friends X8, but no success..
Thanxx in advance
If you flash a custom kernel at the eclair while you have locked bootloader, you will have bootloop(it wont boot, but you can easily fix it),if you have unlocked your bootloader it will be fine
As for your second question, you unlock your bootloader, you flash the kernel(which contain cwm),you enter recovery(cwm),and you flash the rom.

No he's got it wrong.
1. You can't flash custom kernels on a locked rom flashtool won't allow it.
2. Flashing a custom kernel on stock 2.1 will cause it to bootloop, what you'd normally do is enter recovery and flash a rom that works with the kernel.

No,users have reported that custom kernels work with stock rom(I remember very clear a user who used naa kernel with stock rom)
Maybe older versions...
If I'm wrong then I apologize

Hello people how are you? I have a question for you. Ok maybe not a question but a request? Ok lets get to the thing. Ive tried many custom roms and i kinda dont like them so i went back on a stock rom. The only problem is thay i want to overclock stock rom but i cant find the right kenel. I found some outdated post on xda and downloaded godell's kernel and it seems to work perfectly expect the games wont work. The screen just go black and thats it. So im asking is there anyone that can help me out fix this issue? Ive tried downclocking and changing governors but it didnt help. If anyone coukd provide me with some kernel and/or stock rom that supports that kernel i would be really gratefull. Here are some of the information about my current rom
Baseband version S5570XWKT6
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKTN
Android version 2.3.6
Best regards and thanks in future

Ah then its ok
But if u wanna try other kernel, try using doc_cheilvenerdi's internal memory hack, there are also oc kernels and u get this possibility to have more internal mem as nice side effect

I actually want oc kernel for european 2.3.5 but its hard do find so im fine with this xD

Rightly said ! Every user and phone is different .Try a combination of a few ROMs and kernels. you should be able to find one in some time ...
