[Q] Revolt and Root - LG Revolution

sorry for a dumb question, but I'm coming from Eris-land where custom ROMs required root.
Does Revolt require root ? or just boot with vol-down ?

You need root to flash custom roms on any device, you can find pretty detailed info and instructions on how to root the Revo in the Development section... The only stupid questions are the ones blah bla blah...

VS910 4G [Revolt 1.5]

If you have trouble rooting after the downgrade to V4, download superoneclick root version 1.7 which has the rageagainsthecage exploit that you can use to root. The newer versions do not have this exploit, because it causes antivirus software flags. However the most recent version was unable to root my phone after the downgrade.
Make sure you disable ALL antivirus software, and run the superoneclick program as administrator

Good call, I completely forgot to mention the downgrade and superoneclick... I used 1.7 to root with hardly any trouble, I had to run it twice because it tends to hang halfway through the first attempt (i had the same problem before the update) but I got root the second time around with no issues.
[Don't forget to calibrate your battery, not doing this seems to be the cause of a lot of warranty replacements lately.]

Thanks for the advice...
Downgraded, rooted, cwm'd, calibrated and now Revolt-ing !
Greeeat people here !

You'll love it!! Revolt is awesome. Granted...I only had the phone for two hours before it was rooted/CWM/Revolt...but it only took that long to get sick of the stock interface.

Wildfire root access?

Do any current methods allow the wildfire to be rooted yet?
I can confirm the bootloader is 0.80
MOD EDIT (AUG-17 2010):
[GPL] 1-Click Soft Root
User MartinEve has managed to get a temporary software-only root solution that will allow you to run some applications that require SU.
I am thinking of getting one for my daughter and was wondering the same thing but from the fact there is only a general forum and not one for Android development I suspect that it is not possible to root.

Well, indeed I read this thread as well but having some doubt as it was mentioned that the method should work for bootloader version of 0.80 or below and ROM version 1.14.xxx.x or below.
My wildfire came with software number of 1.15.707.1
Is it okay to try that tutorial ?
"meaning we have RW..." What does that mean?
Shouldn't you make a backup of the original ROM before doing any root stuff? I'm reading this article saying you can't at this time, so I guess it's better to wait - or what?
i found a copy of the original ROM at
shipped-romsdotcom/shipped/Buzz/
so if anything goes wrong while rooting it, isnt it possible just to restore the ROM using this?
You can always check your phone's ROM and bootloader versions by starting it with the optical trackpad key held down. just dont mess with anything there and select reboot using the volume keys
@brokenworm - the method given at gadgetdna is what paul originally uploaded at modaco

[Q] Best way to root? I'm Having lots of trouble

I have updated to the latest version that HTC/Sprint provided for the Hero in terms of software which is radio version 2.42.01.04.27 and firmware 2.1-update1. I'm having a really hard time rooting as I have tried unrevoked but no matter what i did it would not show hboot usb on the bootloader screen, I tried Super One click and it wouldnt mount and that wouldn't work.
Can anyone point me to anything else i can try or use so that I can please root my phone and install my rom of choosing?
Thanks

just z4root it works everytime.
1. Dont listen to him z4root doesnt always work, didnt work on Samsung Vibrant
2. Depends on phone model, i had to use SuperOneClick root, and on my Motorola Cliq XT i had to use the "rageagainstthecage" method and one my Huawei Ideos U8150 i used z4root, again just depends on phone model

You shouldn't reset anything before you begin. This method will create a backup of your stock system using SafeStrap. You can always return to your original setup using SafeStrap. Just reverse the toggle setting for Safe system (step 21). The wipe in step 22 is all you'll need.
I'd recommend reading a little about how SafeStrap works if you're feeling uncertain. There's a link to the Safestrap website in the "Credits" section of the OP.

I'm using [H]on3yScr3am: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10340-tpax-hon3yscr3am/ (Props to MasturMynd).
I'm not sure its technically built for 901, but its working fine for me and looks awesome. Basic steps to installing are 1)Download .zip to SD-card 2)Backup (step 20 in OP) 3)Install .zip in Safestrap (steps 23 and 24 in OP). Wipe shouldn't be necessary for this theme, it is built into the script.
Always backup before you do anything.
Other themes ("Tpax") for Kin3tix are here: http://rootzwiki.com/forum/264-th3oryrom/
When I get some time I'll break this down further and add to OP.

When it comes to the .901 file, the file reads Blur_Verzion.5.5.893.XT875.Verizon.en.US.zip
The file name makes it look like the one pre .901. Can you confirm the file is correct and just named wrong? With MegaUpload gone, I'm not sure the MediaFire link is correct. I'm looking for another source for .901, but in case I don't find it....

Motorola names their updates based on the filesystem they are REPLACING. So yes, this is correct. I did my homework before I wrote this up, promise
Thank you. I appreciate that. Seemed odd, but was thinking that exact thing. Running a backup with Bootstrap first, then will install this and move on to test out some ROM's.
Has anyone made progress with unlocking the bootloader? I just got the Bionic a few weeks ago. Sure isn't like the Xoom when it comes to customization.
I just wanted to thank you for the excellent guide. I'm now running the ROM w/ the HON3YSCR3AM mod. It's really cool. Apparently there's been some issues between the dev's who made some of this though.
I really hate that there is so little out there for the Bionic. Hoping the bootloader can be unlocked so we can see some real developments come about. I like Moto phone's, but will avoid anything with a locked bootloader in the future.
I followed the steps verbatim. I could have sworn that last night I was on 901 and now it shows me on. 893. Should I run the update again or what should I do? Eclipse is running.
I also am getting the default tether or mobile hotspot notification when I run wifi tether... Is there a fix for this?
I also usually run the application Klink by faveset and since the root it will not recognize my phone when I hook up the usb.
Any ideas.

Just explained in the several post above you but since you missed it. You are on 901 but for some reason when you flash a 901 compatible rom it'll say 893 in phone info. But if you had just did the update and boot up your phone before flashing a rom it would've verified you are actually on 901. Weird I know. I did this this morning cause I was worried too that I wasn't on 901.
Perfect thanks!

I don't think many people are going to try and look for a new root method. Its been stated a thousand times on here how to RETAIN root. If you didn't follow those directions then you're not gonna find much sympathy.
BTW, is there a way to go back to ICS from JB 2nd leak ?

None of the Root methods for the D415 aren't working

I recently got this phone repaired from LG and I just got it back, only problem is that I can't root this device no thanks to that recent system update used to fixed my phone. I tried towelroot that obviously didn't work, so I tried purpledrake that didn't work when the phone went to recovery All I saw was a blank black image that's it, and up top of that my Google play music app keeps silently closing out especially when I turn the screen off, can't really play too many games especially Asphalt airborne it force closes, and when I try to move my apps to the SD card most of the time it doesn't even work........ Please help with this!! Please I'm losing my mind over this man.
Same
Im having the same problem! It sucks butt!!
Waiting for a new method, i've tried all known ones with no luck, towelroot, towelpieroot, root master, stump root, z4, purpledrake, weak sauce and so on, no luck seems all known exploits have been patched, the only thing you can do at the moment is downgrade to d41510c the root like always, would do it my self as there were no major changes in the update but waiting to get access to a pc.
Edit: sorry the only method i mention i haven't tried is purpledrake as you need a pc for it but so far eveyone has said it doesn't work.

The only method at the moment is use the lg flash tool and downgrade to d41510c then root with towelroot as usual, on d41510e currently there is no method, the whole update was an exploit fix and pretty much thats all it did for us was fix any known exploits we use. I've been following threads for other devices because they have bounties for an exploit and root method but they're still working at it, alot of the samsung devices got locked up as well. A major change in android L which they got was major exploit fixes, pretty sure that where this whole lg update idea cane from, just we didnt get android 5.0.
Same goes for nexus devices which got the update first, currently they have to root by flashing a modified kernel. I follow the verizon note 4 thread, they have a bounty for an exploit and root method, hope it may help us. Chances are it may not though.
Also nexus and some note 4s use the cf-auto-root method which auto matically flashes and roots for them, that method is device spacific to file needed to download to use it, and requires a pc.

Yes works for t-mobile, have t-mobile my s elf but no cant upgrade again, until some one releases a rooted version of v0e have to stay on v10c. Heres a method to get knock code while still on v10c. That is really the only change between the to besides the root patch fixes.
They have released the source for d410 so hopefully we should be looking at a lollipop upgrade for d415 some time in the future, hoping sooner than later. Till then i wouldnt worry about the upgrade to v10e.

I don't really understand what this Knock is for... I would love to understand more.
Why shouldn't I just use the KDZ file posted above and flash it with the lg tool and then root it with towelroot?!
Please elaborate!
Thanks so much!!
For every post you're gaining a thankyou

Depend which kdz, uf you use the v10e kdz you cant root. Have to use the v10c kdz to root. Knock on code is a new lock screen method implemented in the v10e update, its not necessary just a mod put together for people who want it while staying on v10c so they can root. It alot like tap to wake you use a series of taps, 4 to 8 in a square box thats devided into 4 sections, i prefer it because unlike other lock screen methods you can use it while screen is off like double tap and it just opens to yur home screen. I alsi think its more secure than some other methods.

ME TOO! I'm such a noob, i don't even know if i know how to do a post, but i just downgraded to "10c" and rooted with towelroot and it was very simple. worked like a charm. hmmm what next? unlock the bootloader? install twrp?
thanks to all for the info!
If your bootloader is not already unlocked (which is the case for the L90s with the most recent update apparently), after rooting, follow the information found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-l90/general/guide-unlock-bootloader-t-mobile-l90-t2836457
Make sure you follow the steps explicitly.

Why do you need a unlocked bootloader? I didn't install TWRP because I just wanted some modifications.... but I'm sure there's twrp for this device!
Enjoy!!
The only real reason to unlock the bootloader and install cwm or twrp is to have a full backup...just in case. Also, for when they start making more ROMs for this device.

Oops, i didn't mean to post that yet. i was just getting started. i don't know what i did but, since i rooted, my Messaging app will not open. it flashes on the screen and immediately closes. a toast notification says "unfortunately messaging has stopped" or something.
PLUS, the update is already sweatin' me to install update. I'm gonna follow that link to get the update killer on here. Thanks a million
