[Q] Best way to root? I'm Having lots of trouble - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have updated to the latest version that HTC/Sprint provided for the Hero in terms of software which is radio version 2.42.01.04.27 and firmware 2.1-update1. I'm having a really hard time rooting as I have tried unrevoked but no matter what i did it would not show hboot usb on the bootloader screen, I tried Super One click and it wouldnt mount and that wouldn't work.
Can anyone point me to anything else i can try or use so that I can please root my phone and install my rom of choosing?
Thanks

This worked just fine for me

Where do you download the android sdk? Does it have to be any specific version? And one last question, does it work on 2.42.01.04.27?

That's a radio version if I'm not mistaken, but if you read the thread, you will see it works with up to the newest version.

just z4root it works everytime.

1. Dont listen to him z4root doesnt always work, didnt work on Samsung Vibrant
2. Depends on phone model, i had to use SuperOneClick root, and on my Motorola Cliq XT i had to use the "rageagainstthecage" method and one my Huawei Ideos U8150 i used z4root, again just depends on phone model

Im not that experienced and wasnt able to follow the first root method suggested with the SDK and all of that. I tried superoneclick but it always gets stuck when mounting. Where can i find z4root?

but for the question at hand, when trying to root a cdma hero it "always" works
hence why the question was asked here and not in Android General forum

You need to put the file on your SD card, and install it from there using a file explorer or app installer.

[Q] Are there any "One-Click" Rooting methods for the Hero?

A friend wants to root his Sprint Hero after seeing what I was able to do with my EVO. Is there a "one-click" method out there? All I see are methods where you have to actually type commands, etc..
Any help would be great. Thanks!
There are plenty. I use super one click personally, but you need android sdk installed. Not a bad thing seeing as how you'll eventually need adb for something.
use this for hero root.

You need root to flash custom roms on any device, you can find pretty detailed info and instructions on how to root the Revo in the Development section... The only stupid questions are the ones blah bla blah...

If you have trouble rooting after the downgrade to V4, download superoneclick root version 1.7 which has the rageagainsthecage exploit that you can use to root. The newer versions do not have this exploit, because it causes antivirus software flags. However the most recent version was unable to root my phone after the downgrade.
Make sure you disable ALL antivirus software, and run the superoneclick program as administrator

Good call, I completely forgot to mention the downgrade and superoneclick... I used 1.7 to root with hardly any trouble, I had to run it twice because it tends to hang halfway through the first attempt (i had the same problem before the update) but I got root the second time around with no issues.
[Don't forget to calibrate your battery, not doing this seems to be the cause of a lot of warranty replacements lately.]

Thanks for the advice...
Downgraded, rooted, cwm'd, calibrated and now Revolt-ing !
Greeeat people here !
You'll love it!! Revolt is awesome. Granted...I only had the phone for two hours before it was rooted/CWM/Revolt...but it only took that long to get sick of the stock interface.

Hey everyone I'm new to HTC one, got a couple questions

I am gonna root this later this week when I have spare time. I wad wondering what's the best time available and any useful mods or something that may be required or anything I should stay away from. I'm use to the Samsung galaxy from s2, s3, and s4 so this phone is like a whole new world for me lol.
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I don't know what you mean by "best time available"
You should stay away from roms and kernels from the International HTC One board (Includes T-Mobile, At&t, Verizon), unless your 100% sure that it supports Sprint.
Do not wipe Internal Data in your custom recovery (kinda obvious but some people still manage to do it.)
that's pretty much it for the don'ts I think...
I would recommend the latest TWRP recovery, ViperOne 3.2 RC2 (even though it might have a few bugs, it has mods up the butt and it's my personal favorite rom.)
And lastly, RUU's are your best friend when your having huge problems with your One or just want to go back to stock; Its sorta like Odin :good:
P.S. Even though its not required, I would recommend achieving S-Off while there is still a working method.
Lol sorry on the good time part.. I meant best roms. phone autocorrects me all the time. Only had the phone for about 10 hours now so I doesn't know my typing. I ended up having the iPhone 5 for like 2 months.. needed something new. I remember using RUU on HTC eco shift but that was a long time ago lol. Thank you for the info
Sent from my HTCONE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
this is why these BEST threads are frowned upon, I actually prefer philz cwm recovery and would say steer away from viperone because of the bugs. ecliptic one is literally flawless. see everybody has a preference. best advise is to read everything you can handle and find something that has the feature YOU desire. definitely get s-off, no custom kernels, and as previous post stated keep ur flashing to sprint threads only. there are a few roms in international thread, just read carefully and confirm sprint support! Bigdaddy619 is a wealth of knowledge, check out his faq's thread at the top of q&a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277892
I like to test out multiple roms. Their wad a viper Rom on another device I didn't care for. I used mik or something like that

I've been rocking the Google play edition Rom by team nocturnal and I love it. Very stable.
Learn and become familiar with how to root, flash, etc and most importantly RUU.
And most importantly read read read... I try to make it a habit to read posts for like an hour or so before doing anything to my phones even tho I've been doing this since the HTC hero days.

If you're on the latest HBOOT, which is 1.55 I bellieve, then use rumrunner http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496687. I dont think revone has been updated in a while
I used rumrunner to s-off my device with hboot 1.55. Also check out team d3rp SuperBLUE Rom , it's my favorite so far and I've flashed almost all the others.

Awesome thank you guys for the help. im going to try rumrunner now.
edit: ok I managed to get adb working on my win8 but I think I need constant internet connection. I was using WiFi tether because my work doesnt supply WiFi which is bogus for Wal-Mart.....
ok so Rumrunner is not working. ive redownloaded it on 2 PC's and it ends up saying i need to download a updated package on rumrunner. any tips would be awesome.
I think you need adb and fastboot working. And one windows 8.1 had had problems getting the duvets for those working. I'm not sure if there is a fix or workaround for it add I am still on windows 7. But that might help with your tracking down the problem.

Also, you might need android SDK
