[Q] Are there any "One-Click" Rooting methods for the Hero? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A friend wants to root his Sprint Hero after seeing what I was able to do with my EVO. Is there a "one-click" method out there? All I see are methods where you have to actually type commands, etc..
Any help would be great. Thanks!

There are plenty. I use super one click personally, but you need android sdk installed. Not a bad thing seeing as how you'll eventually need adb for something.

use this for hero root.

Universal Androot did not work with Sprint's newest update for me. It does work with .6 or .7 update though.

Which update are you referring to? Not up to speed on the Hero.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Help, please...

Greetings. First off, respect to the devs, they do great work...
Secondly...my hero's pri is 170. The newer version is 220. Ive been going from stock to fresh 2.1.2, trying different radios and such.
I want to update the pri but cant seem to find a way to do it w/out losing root. I dont so much care about the root as i do not having the useless sprint apps on there. I was gonna install the .6 update then the older .5 version to see if the pri would stick-or even update.
Is there a way i can update the pri? Has the .6 version been rooted by the genius devs?
Id appreciate any positive feedback/advice/solutions. Thank you.

There is a rooted .6 version already in this section. It has superuser, busybox, and a2sd already. Check it out
It seemed to me that i didnt meet requirements to run that specific rom. It also had some stuff i wasnt so interested in.
I hate to be this guy, but you should post this in the Q&A section....
PS, there is no such thing as "not meeting min. requirements" If you have a cdma hero, every rom in this section will work for you.
Also, if there is something in a rom you don't want, you can always remove it.
my 2 cents.

you should run the RUU in my rooting guide under the second post. It WILL clear your data, but your PRI should be updated, then use my guide to root, and install another custom ROM.
Im not clear what to download from your links in your sig. I dont see a ruu listed. Or the root instructions that i have to use after i run the ruu. Please elaborate. Thank you

[Q] root latest sprint update 2.31.651.7?

has it been done? because the Fresh Kitchen isnt recognizing it as an official sprint rom and is not rooting
I don't think so. There are sense roms built with it, though. You may need to kick back to .5 and root, then flash the .7 rom.

I even flashed with the latest 2.31.651.7 RUU found at, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804692, and then rooted.

Don't even need that. Pretty sure there is a non sprint root thread on the dev or apps board.

[Q] Best way to root? I'm Having lots of trouble

I have updated to the latest version that HTC/Sprint provided for the Hero in terms of software which is radio version 2.42.01.04.27 and firmware 2.1-update1. I'm having a really hard time rooting as I have tried unrevoked but no matter what i did it would not show hboot usb on the bootloader screen, I tried Super One click and it wouldnt mount and that wouldn't work.
Can anyone point me to anything else i can try or use so that I can please root my phone and install my rom of choosing?
Thanks
This worked just fine for me

Where do you download the android sdk? Does it have to be any specific version? And one last question, does it work on 2.42.01.04.27?

That's a radio version if I'm not mistaken, but if you read the thread, you will see it works with up to the newest version.
just z4root it works everytime.
1. Dont listen to him z4root doesnt always work, didnt work on Samsung Vibrant
2. Depends on phone model, i had to use SuperOneClick root, and on my Motorola Cliq XT i had to use the "rageagainstthecage" method and one my Huawei Ideos U8150 i used z4root, again just depends on phone model

Im not that experienced and wasnt able to follow the first root method suggested with the SDK and all of that. I tried superoneclick but it always gets stuck when mounting. Where can i find z4root?

but for the question at hand, when trying to root a cdma hero it "always" works
hence why the question was asked here and not in Android General forum

help with rooting 2.3.4

So i got a replacement phone yesterday and it came with 2.3.4 on it. I tried to use unrevoked but it said failed cuz my firmware is to new. How do i root this? do i need to downgrade to 2.2? if so can someone tell me how. is it just a simple ruu flash?
Wrong section.
If you're S-ON then you're screwed, if you're S-OFF then you can root.
Edit: Searching yields results lol... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269550

Yeah, and they can do that. The DInc wasn't released as a rooted phone, that's where the likes of Unrevoked/AlphaRev come in. They'll have to update their methods for the DInc, and I'm guessing that'll be with their tool named Revolutionary.
You may not be able to use the 2.2 RUU to get back to 2.2 stock. You can try it, but that may screw up your replacement too...? Unrevoked/AlphaRev have been working on the newer phones that've been released lately, so the time table for anything from them is unknown, if they even update to root the DInc 2.3 at all.
