How do you run a factory rom backup of everything? Without downloading some stupid app, or is there even a way. I am rooted and have clockwork mod, but I am just interested in how to do this?
Well usually we perform a nandroid backup but we can't flash cwm on the thrill yet though so the only thing I know of that we can do is flashing Cwm through Advanced and restore to the original rom/stock rom.

Hey guys,
I've been using nandroid since my magic days. With my magic, I've had no problems whatsoever always wiping and doing a restore of my old nandroid backups. However, it does not seem to be the case with my captivate for some reasons.
Here are a few methods I've tried:
1) Factory wipe/data reset using clockwork recovery and restore nandroid (which I did with my magic.. not sure why they don't work)
2) Flash to 2.1 stock and do nandroid restore.
3) Flash to the ROM after a wipe that I want to restore to then do nandroid restore.
All three methods allow me to complete nandroid restore but upon reboot it's just non-stop FC city.
Can anyone guide me? Thank you
Nothing to see here, move along.
Thanks bud you are sooo helpful.

I am not sure but do you only have one backup you are trying to use? Could be an issue with backup. Is three any lag fix in the equation? It sucks but if three worst of it is you can flash the rom but not restore your apps then I guess consider your self lucky

Yep. I disable my lagfixes before doing restores. To be honest it's not that big of a hassle since I can just use tibu pro and do one click restore for apps and restore my settings as well. And nandroid takes so much longer on captivate than magic D: Still it would be nice to always go back..

Okay so I'm kinda lost on how to do nandroid. After I wipe do I flash the ROM i want then do the nandroid or do I just wipe and do the nandroid?
Nandroid backs up your phone. I'd do a nandroid before wiping. Then I'd wipe and flash new roms and such. After you get yer new rom set up, I'd suggest making a nandroid backup of that as well.

Wipe the current install and restore the nandroid backup you want to return to.

Have you tried bart or switchrom from the recovery console?
If all else fails Titanium Backup on market can save apps and setting and restore from a clean install, tis better than nowt lol
Hey, I used to run Overcome 4.1 on my SGT. I tried an ICS rom for a few days (this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697589), but I am not satisfied. Question: Can I go back to Overcome by simply restoring my last android backup or do I have to restock and then flash Overcome like the first time I did it?
Thanks!
Yes, backup your internal sd first. you need to get back to non mtd by restocking with pit.
Then you need to install overcome rom.
Then restore.
Having said that..... all my overcome nandroid restore causes non stop FC everywhere.
I had to restore from Titanium Backup instead after fresh overcome.

Do a nandroid & then restock to ext partition and then flash overcome. As priyana said, use titanium backup to restore nandroid, as you cannot restore directly via cwm
So I flashed CM11 on my dads phone, first taking a backup of the rooted stock that was on there. Now when I restore the backup (after full wipe) It freezes and crashes all the time!. It seems as soon as I touch the phone it stops responding to my touch. However the phone still makes the bubble/water sounds when i hit menu key. Please, please help since this is my dads phone.
Samsung TW based roms stock some apps in the /preload partition so did you use Philz recovery to make nandroid backup and check include preload (located in restore and backup => misc nandroid settings )?
if not then your backup is incomplete and flashing stock rom via odin3 is the best way to revert back.

Ah, my backup doesn't include preload. If I reverted to stock via Odin, would I still be able to restore just data?

After flashing using Odin, rooting using Philz kernel to get cwm, you can do an advanced restore of just data. It might not restore 100% data but should restore enough.
PS. Preload is only used if you had JB earlier.
