Android Smart "Home" Phone from Archos - Off-topic

ARCHOS 3.5 Smart Home Phone ......... Link
I know it's not very mobile, but I thought some might be interested.

Not bad, but probably not available here :/ sadly.
Good finding man!

It's not available anywhere yet, I think it's supposed to be available sometime this month..........I think Archos is a French company, so You have a better chance than Me to get one.......

Only $150, not bad, as long as it has the market.

Not sure yet if it has the market......... I know a lot of their devices come with the appslib.

Looks interesting, hope it will have Google market access out of the box. Without it, it will not really be useful. Given that it is Archos and 2.2 Froyo, I doubt it. Will be hard to use things like "missed call to email" etc., without the market.
No google market icon in the slashgear video below. Touchscreen is FAR from perfect.
http://www.slashgear.com/archos-35-home-connect-smart-home-phone-hands-on-28161822/

if its decently powerful, it might make a good PDA for someone.
how good is this processor?

Well that's... interesting. I'm pretty sure that since it has the market, it'll be hard to put down and use as a HOME phone.
Even though I see no need for it, others might. So I hope it succeeds.

Paml Pre- Anyone got one?

Anybody get a pre? I've seen one really great review of it and one kind of crummy review, very curious about getting this phone for my wife. Any recommendations on a good site (the XDA-Dev's for PalmPre)?? Thanks!!
not sure, but i dont believe HTC is manufacturing the pre
XDA = HTC phones.
again, not sure, if it is manufactured by HTC there would probably already be a section on the forum devoted to the pre.
I have heard a lot of good things about the phone.
only 2 cons so far: small keyboard, and programs lag a little.
other then that, Its a great looking phone, with new innovative GUI
I don't think I would be able to use the small keyboard. I can barely use the one on the Treo Pro, and the one on the Centro is too small for me... and I have relatively small hands!
Yeah, I know there won't be a section here as it is most definitely NOT an HTC device, hence my posting in off-topic. I was jut wondering if anyone knew what the best Palm forum is.
I've heard from another member of the forums here who has one that there are some hardware probs with the phone, dead pixels and bad overheating problems. First run Blackstones had similar issues so we'll see if this doesn't get straightened out in the next shipment. I'm not too worried about the small keyboard as my wife has doll hands and long nails anyway ;-)
Best bet is Precentral.net
Its not nearly as robust as XDA in regards to the manipulating and hacking of the device (possibly cause its just brand new) but its probably the biggest Pre / WebOS focused message board at the moment.
Yep i have red this is a crap
A piece of crap... is the way that many people has referred about the new PALM Pre.. why? i dont know, but I think its not powerfull than other device from PALM or HTC, but, does this palm have WinMo? maybe this feature can make it a little stronger.
I saw a few videos and i cant remember about it, cause it doesnt matters to me... Palm doesnt matter for who is a HTC user, you know...
BTW that litle qwerty seems to be for a kid... they are very happy cause the edge of the device is soft... what an amazing development!!!!
Well let us know if anyone has a little toy like that.
There should be a Pre section on this site...I dont see why now. There's 2 for the Palm Treo's:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=321
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=466
I might be getting one after some of the initial updates and bugs are worked out. 2 of my friends have one and they seem to like it so far comparted to their HTC TP.

Makes sense...Thanks
I played around withh it for a bit an the keyboard is soft and hard, but maybe your wife's doll hands will be fine lol
The web browsing is great. And I like that it's slim. Other than that, I like my Pro. And I don't know of any other issues. though. Good luck!
I do have to say that the Pre UI is pretty sweet. I hope the Android team takes not and realizes that the built in apps can also look good. As noted a few posts back, the Pre does have a bit of lag when you launch new apps, but the card manager works great for switching once they are open.
I have to say that I love the hardware design of the thing. reminds me a lot of the HTC Touch Dual. I hope HTC brings back the Duals form factor in a new Android handset.
I played with one today at the Sprint store...
The keyboard is better than I expected, better than the Treo Pro, much better than the Centro...
There is a "slight" lag when opening applications, but it doesn't seem to be with all applications.
The card interface is really cool and works great!
I have a Pre, so I would know stuff:
The in-store Pre's are running demo software, so they will have more lag than the real model
There is no file explorer - This is a huge change from what were used to on Windows Mobile, lol, but you don't necessarily need it.
Multitasking is AMAZING! Nothing can match it. Using Turn-by-Turn GPS while streaming Pandora in the car is seamless and works just as you'd expect.
The app store, well, give it time!
EXCHANGE: If you're exchange server doesn't use a SSL connection, then you're screwed. Palm has to release an update before this will ever work. Trust me, there's no other solution.
Synergy - I wouldn't know how well this works because I can't connect my Exchange server, which pretty much defeats the purpose.
Overall, I'd say that for your wife, the Pre would be perfect. It's like an iPhone, but you can do wayy more. It's not Windows Mobile though, so don't expect a bunch of functionality. But this phone works perfectly for what you want it for. Everything just works the way you would expect, like how the phone wont lock the screen unless you put it in your pocket (brilliant!)
But watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9uNABNcCoY It's an Opera Mini vs Palm Pre browser comparison video. Opera Mini smokes the Pre, lol.
So I would say, get the Pre for your wife. Everything is soo seamless on the Pre and works so nicely. If you want to be an advanced user, then WinMo (or Android maybe) is for you.

I didn't know about the lock in the pocket things, that's really cool
My sever is SSL, so I'm fine there.
And, of course Opera Mini wins, the Pre is doing all the work itself...
HTC did make PALMpre...i remember when it was announce back in january...i have to say it is a very solid and good device and i love winmo phone, current xperia, touch pro, and HTC HD user. Palmpre WEBos impressed me i would pick one up when a gsm version release. I believe this device took whats good with winmo and iphone and combined it together very well and have lots of room to improve as well...one thing i notice about it that is bad is the battery...make sure you read up on the tweaks n so on so you can conserve battery but most people say it dies out very quickly i dunno if its the way they using it or not but i used a unit for 2 days and still have 50 percent battery...i say your wife would love this device and make a fan out of u

yeah, that will never work on the vogue. resistive touch screens can't do multitouch, they just average two points; many other reasons as well why we will never have multitouch on our devices.
I do love the new night mode in nav. buzz, i'm still undecided about. kinda cool though.
Buzz is pretty cool... just a toy though, I think it's more for kiddies
Is this 4.0 the one that was just updated in the marketplace? I'm guessing this version is for users outside of the US who cannot access it?

Another working apk that is great

In case anyone is a member of AppPla***.net (not sure if I can post the name here) Their apk works fine on the NC and you can download just like you can off the Android Market. Not sure why Android Market wont work on the NC, but this works fine. I have gotten 100's of apks there on my NC.
yes, it works fine.
for those opposed to stealing, just remember all the apps with a line through the price are pirated.
Has anyone verified is there were/are any malicious apps on that site/program.. I've been told some of the permissions on some of the apps were "questionable."

I think it's best we close this just now, before this moves into a full-blown warez discussion. Installing paid apps without paying them is not something this forum condones, nor tolerates the discussion of.
There is progress in using the proper Android market on the device.

It's really just a customized Autodesk Sketchbook that's modified to work with the K1 more efficiently.
I don't think it would help to pull it. If you really want though, I can send it your way to see if it works for you.

GIve the Corel Painter app a try. They have nice physical media effects.
Dabbler probably isn't going to be compatible with the Tegra Note or Samsung Note, since it is either reliant on the K1 SoC, or has software checks that prevent it from running on other SoCs.
I have clover paint https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fareast.CloverPaint&hl=en
It's so good that I asked the dev if the $20 tablet UI add-on would work with the tegra note, they said no, I got it anyway, and it works. I was only gonna get it to give the dev more money but not only does it work it's the best UI ever. The painting itself (if you read up on it you can see the praise but in short) is the bomb. I got the directstylus pro pack and am completely skipping over this gen of tablets I'm just sticking with my tegra note and clover paint and my next tablet purchase will actually be based on what the clover paint developers use I guess either when my note dies or when I want a bigger screen. I originally was 100% intent on gaming for android which is why I ended up with the tegra note, boy am I glad it had another use.
If you do use clover paint you gotta go into the stylus settings and at the bottom do the automatic pressure detection, just press down as light and as hard as you plan on, basically drag it around and practice your strokes until it's done. The one problem with it right now is it's the most advanced program ever made but there's no documentation, so for example I have the pro stylus so that's two tips, then I have a third stylus which is one of them round wire tips and each time I switch I do the auto pressure, but maybe one day there'll be stylus profiles it's really, really confusing, I think it's the language barrier, but holy moly macaroni if you like to art you better try it and you better actually get to know it before deciding you don't like it a good example is to take the oil brush and see how it mixes colors and smudges it and then you can cusotmize brushes to no end with stuff like smudging and mixing and outlining and I don't know if you're trying it yet but if you're not why aren't you go sjust go forget this post and just go

I'm pretty sure that Nvidia created Dabbler to only be used with the K1 processor. It was a way for them to show off how powerful it really is in a fun, neat way.
Pretty sure I heard that in a demo somewhere.

Sorry if starting a new thread isn't exactly appropriate. I wasn't certain what to search for, but I was wondering if there was a graphing calculator app that could run on our Nooks, similar to the stock calculator on CM11. That would be convenient for my Algebra work. Thanks!

If only WabbitEmu worked on 2.1. That would be almost perfect.
As for Algebra 2, it's an okay class when you have a good teacher... In my class, about ten people almost failed until they decided a D to a 0.5. And now this quarter that's not happening and alongside passing, we have to also make a 2.0 GPA to stay in the school (since it's a magnet school). Also, it's kinda funny how we keep running into each other today, wouldn't you agree?

Wow! That app is better than sliced bread
Back in the day I used to run the Virtual TI on my laptop to show students what I was talking about and to run various lab instruments for demo purposes. I don't imagine I could do that with this app but I bet it would run an isotope half-life simulation I wrote for the calculator. Gotta try and dig that up just for fun.

I don't have my Nook in front of me now, so I can't tell you version compatibility, but I got it on my phone. I have posted the *.apk here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ro0q5bwua4xyxkr/net.supware.tipro-1.apk?dl=0
For legal reasons, I can't include the ROM image of course, but you can find it elsewhere. It is suggested to pull it straight from a real calculator, but mine's an NSpire with an 84 keypad, which doesn't allow you to image the 84 ROM for some reason, and the images from TI's website don't work, so I'm at a loss with this app.

Kind of lost on the other stuff
So I got the chance to load Andie on my Nook (the version in my Dropbox works). Works like a charm! Attached are some pics. As far as obtaining a ROM goes, you can get WabbitEmu (on a newer device of course) and use that to compile a ROM (I think the 83 Plus is the newest that Andie supports). From there, extract it from /data/user/0/com.Revsoft.Wabbitemu/cache/ (the file should be named "calculator name.ROM) and copy it to the Nook's SD card (anywhere is fine as long as it's on the card).
