Hi,
I read everything i could find and I still can't get anything to work properly on the phone.
Is there even a milestone wiki so i know which version my phone is?
I got the open recovery thing to work once, but i can't get it to work again, it keeps saying I have a cache error. what do i do?
also, when I install app2card, it totally ruins my phone, is that app meant for my phone?
I tried to install app2sd, but it keeps saying busy box permission failed something.
I got my phone thru ebay, how can i check the region?
I just know I have an unbranded milestone.
I google all these questions and nothing helpful comes up.
Can somone please tell me how to get into recover again?
Do i need to reflash it?
I only got into it once and installed the zip.
but when i try to run the zip again, i get an error.
If you have nandroid file in your sdcard, you can copy and paste (anything that is important to you) to your PC.
1. Take out your sdcard and pluck it to your PC if your Milestone cannot switch ON
2. Format your sdcard via PC
3. Extract G.O.T OpenRecovery v2.00 or Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3 to the root of
your sdcard. (you'll see OpenRecovery folder and update.zip) Put the sdcard to your
Milestone and enter bootloader.(Press and hold volume up+camera key & power ON)
4. Open RSDlite and connect to your Milestone. Flash sbf to your Milestone, stock ROM
or 2.2.1 G.O.T beta version
Guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696845
5. Your Milestone will be switch ON after flashing sbf is done. Turn it OFF and enter
into recovery. Press X button and power ON. Once you see the triangle and '!',
press volume up and camera key.
6. You'll see Recovery 2e, all letters in blue, select update and the rest is your choice.
You can nandroid backup if your Milestone works as before and restore your previous nandroid that you copy to your PC.
Yes i did that the first time and it worked.
but how can i get into it again to make a backup?
thanks
You mean you still can't get into the recovery mode after formatting your sdcard? Even with the button combination:
PRESS AND HOLD 'X' AND POWER ON THE PHONE, LET GO ONLY AFTER YOU SEE THE TRIANGLE AND '!' MARK ???
I get to the triangle.
and it get to the recover menu. but when i press install the zip again.
an error message pops up.
do i need to redo step 3 and 4 everytime i want to go into recovery menu?
what open recovery u r using? GOT or androidiani?
if its GOT then try switchin to androidiani to check if the problem presist, vice versa.
report back here if there is any improvement.
one more question:
when u enter the bootloader menu (pressing the up dpad and power key) wat bootloader version it states there?
Thanks
I'll try it out tonight been a bit busy this week.
does Flash sbf do anything to my system?
for example, will i need to reflash my current rom after doing Flash sbf?
I know for the x10 mini pro, after doing update.zip i will need to reflash the rom.
is it the same for milestone?
I still can't get it to work.
here are my steps.
My phone is already rooted.
and I already flashed the Recovery-Only SBF when i installed the new rom. (do i need to redo this step? Maybe I'm using an outdated version?)
Can someone link me to the file if there is a better one, all the links are dead.
I am using this version: vulnerable_recovery_only_RAMDLD90_78
I downloaded this:
http://groupoften.wordpress.com/2010/10/22/new-g-o-t-openrecovery-v2-01-launched/
I put the files on the root of my SD:
OpenRecovery
OpenRecovery-CFG (do i need this?)
update.zip
I press the Up dpad and power, I get the triangle thing.
I press the install.zip and still cache error?
E:can't open /ache/recovery/command
I don't get what the readme in the GOT is telling me to do.
it says:
create a folder in /OpenRecovery/recoveries ( for example "My_OR_MOD" i don't use space in folder name, to avoid problems)
does that mean I make a copy of the "openrecovery" folder and put it back inside the "openrecovery" folder? that means every thing will be duplicated? is this correct?
thanks
I would try the androidiani, but i can not find the english guide.
Edit:
just tried androidiani, and I'm still getting E:can't open /ache/recovery/command
Hope someone can help me here...I already rooted my CDMA HTC Hero and was in process of installing the CM6 zip file from my sd card through ClockworkMod Recovery...After rebooting, It just shows the HTC screen and it just sits there. I took the battery out and reset back to the original...I am running 2.15 update and a build of 2.32.651.2...This is my first time rooting/modifying a phone...Thanks

How long did it just sit there? Starting up a new ROM the first time sometimes takes a few minutes or more. It it's not rebooting itself, let it sit and load.
maybe

more info is needed to help you. What steps did you take EXACTLY? get long winded. Like what root method, what recovery, what wipe process, what flash process, etc.
Okay...I used Z4Mod and went with a permanent root (seemed to be successful)...I grabbed the free version of ROM manager from the mkt place...I then flashed Clockwork Recovery in ROM Mgr...Finally, I selected "Install ROM from SD Card." A prompt showed up and I selected "Backup Existing ROM" and "Wipe Data and Cache." After checking OK, it rebooted and froze on the HTC screen for 15+ minutes two times. I have two zip files on my sd card: "update-cm-6.1.0-RC1-Heroc-signed.zip" and "gapps-mdpi-20101213-signed.zip" This is as far as I could get...thanks!
Well when you chose to backup existing rom that was good. When you chose to wipe data that was bad. Now your phone can't boot into anything because you wiped all of your data. But you were smart and made a backup. A general rule of thumb at least IMO
Is only wipe data if your flashing a new rom or having trouble with an exiting one. With that being said. Just boot into recovery by
Holding home and power until you see your recovery
Then look for an option that says install update zip from sd or update from sd. I don't use clockwork mod but I'm sure its something to that effect. Then choose install from sd or what ever the option was. Then you should see your two rom zips on your sd choose which one to install, let it finish and reboot. Being a fresh install it might take a minute. Or if you want to go back to your factory rom just look for an option that says restore and choose your backup you made when you used rom manger. Hope this helps good luck.

Instead of installing from ROM Manager, select the option to Reboot Into Recovery.
From there, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset, then select Wipe Cache Partition, then go into Advanced and select Wipe Dalvich Cache.
Once those steps are complete, go back to the main menu and select Install zip from SD Card, then select Choose zip from SD Card. Find the CM zip and select it.
Once it completes, select Install zip from SD card again, find the gapps zip and select it.
Go back to the main menu again, and select Reboot now.
That's an old build of 6.1 anyway, grab the "stable" release instead.
Thanks for all of your assistance. Where can I find a current, stable 6.1 download file? I will replace it on my sd card before going forward.
Also, how do I get to the boot/recovery screen? When I choose recovery, it freezes with the HTC screen...I have success getting the phone back to original when I select fastUSBboot, or something similar to that...
Trying powering off, then press and hold the Home button while you press and release (don't hold) the Power button.
If that doesn't work, try pressing the volume up button while pressing the Power button.
Turn off the phone and hold volume down and power. A white screen will appear from there press the home button. It will take a good 15 to 20 seconds to get into recovery. Are you waiting long enough???
Or power off phone and hold power and home untill it boots into your recovery remember it takes a few seconds 10 to 15 seconds
Yea its me Again With the

I selected the home key to get into recovery...after 10+ minutes of showing the HTC screen, I think there is something wrong. This goes back to the same issue when I originally attempted to install the CM ROM - it was supposed to reboot into recovery but instead restarted into a frozen HTC screen. What ele can I do? Can I just go back to original and try all over again? I had to take the battery out and reset the device...
After Fastbooting, I lost network access and can't get into the marketplace...When I go into ROM manager to restore the backup, it just sits and looks like it is working on it...How long should this take? Is 10 min too long?
So your able to boot into your rom right.??? So just go to rom manger and choose flash alternate recovery. Place a different recovery on your sd and flash it. Or just flash the clockwork recovery. Basically I think you need to get into recovery first.
Yea its me Again With the
Modified Hero-
I think you're right as far as getting into recovery being the key...Since my network is down, I had to try "Flash Alternative Recovery," but it showed "An error occurred while flashing your recovery" ...Is there another alternative to getting a new recovery installed?
My network connection just started working...I had to uncheck and recheck the connect to network...Clockwork recovery finally worked and I was able to install 6.0 and the Google apps...Thanks for all of your help! I do have one additional question - How do I set up my apps to store on the sd card instead of the internal memory? Thanks again
I'm having a similar issue as OP.
This is my first time trying to load CM7 on my Hero CDMA. I rooted my phone successfully and then installed Amon_Ra's Recovery (v1.6.2) and wiped the data/Dalvik-cache and then flashed CM7 and Google Apps. Everything seemed to install without problem.
However, when I reboot the device it doesn't get past the initial "HTC" screen.
I then attempted to use adb to look at the logs but when I boot into recovery mode and enable USB mode, the computer doesn't recognize an HTC device/serial:
c:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
000000000000 recovery
and trying to access the logs or run shell commands through adb fails.
It's been stuck on the "HTC" logo for 10 minutes; I'm not sure if I just need to wait it out or if something has gone awry. Did I just brick my phone or can this be salvaged?
I managed to flash whatever I had backed up from nandroid, but it's incredibly unstable. Took several resets and almost an hour stuck on the "HTC" splash screen before booting. I have missed calls and can make them, which is a good sign, but I'm repeatedly hit with an error "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.".
I can't post pastebin links since I'm new, but I have dumps of logcat and /proc/last_kmsg.
At this point I'd be happy to either get CM working OR revert back to a stable stock ROM.
How did you root ???
Also what's your baseband/ radio ??
Also what hboot are you currently on ??

I needed to have a phone so I took it back to Sprint and they were able to do a factory reset. So while I'm glad it's not bricked, I'd prefer to have a better ROM on here.
I rooted using the following set of commands:
adb push asroot2 /data/local/
adb shell
chmod 0755 /data/local/asroot2
/data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/bin
cat sh > su
chmod 4755 su
Firmware version 1.5
Baseband version: 1.04.01.09.21
Kernel version: 2.6.27-533ce29d [email protected]
Build number: 1.56.651.2 CL85027 release-keys
Software version: 1.56.651.2
Hardware version: 0002
I'm not sure how to find out the hboot version.
When you first rooted or before did you make a backup/nandroid ?? Also after you rooted did you flash a recovery ??

hey
ive got an x1 and i tried to boot into android using clockworkmod, i made 3 ext 2 partitions everything i did was fine, but when i open haret.exe the phone reboots! and goes to normal winmo 6.1! please does anyone know how to solve this issue, i did set everything primary did place neopeek folder on root of the sd, verified everything 30x . so later on i tought lets try winmo 6.5, but when i try and flash hardspl/ the 826 rom the phone gets into bootloader mode and says loadingand freezes on loading for like 4hours until i take out the battery, is my phone bricked or something? i need android on my 1 please help!!
run Haret, wait a minute .. there will be a command "press the volume down" on your screen and immediately press "volume down" and then install cwm mode
thats the problem if i run haret it auto-reboots
in the npk instal forder.. run the haret.. and its will instal android in ext2... then the phone will reboot.. after reboot.. go to sd card and press the haret on the root sd card.. and wait for it.. then ur android will run.. try the squivail version.. its lite n fast android..
i have had this problem it actually happens somewhat frequent
all i do is open npkboot folder and wait 10 sec then run haret.
it still might reboot just try again
i have gotten 4 reboots in a row before it went through to run android normally..
this is only if you have finished and booted into android using cwm
if you havent then do what the other gentlemen said and wait till penguin disappears and press volume down to run cw recovery

The easiest way would be to open the "Terminal" (if not installed -> this is what you're looking for) and type 'su'.
If the su binary exists and works you're most likely rooted.
The build string of 2.1.1.A.0.6 means you got the genuine Sony Ericsson Android 2.1 series ROM.
Android 2.1 ("Eclair") - 2.1.x
Android 2.2 ("Froyo") - 2.2.x
Android 2.3 ("Gingerbread") - 2.3.x
Finally, yes you need to install a custom ROM in order to run Android 2.2 (i.e. FroyoPro 2.4 by lrakkarl) or Android 2.3 (i.e. GingerDX by doixanh)
ok i downloaded it and type su nothing happened han i tryed with 'su' nothing happened...

Type su and press enter (the button bottom and right in the keyboard) the $ icon will turn to # if you are rooted and it will tell sth like "access denied" if you are not.
If you have superuser and you haven't downloaded from market you are rooted.
If you want to know how to install a custom rom just use the search button and you will find a lot of threads!

No, I was talking about these ROMs (at the time of writing) here:
FroyoPro v2.4 by lrakkarl
GingerDX v022 by doixanh (Recommended)
Note about GingerDX Downloads:
The download links in doixanh's post are dead at the moment. Click the Link in my signature for GingerDX downloads ... but read on first.
Now, as for xRecovery:
To make it easy for you. Click the link in my signature and hop into the "Recoveries" folder. Download the "xRecovery_Installer_v0.1.apk", copy it onto the SD card of your phone (connect in USB-Storage mode and copy the file).
By using a File Manager like Root Browser Lite you then install the APK from your SD card.
One it has been installed you will find the "xRecovery Installer" icon in the list of apps - tap it, follow instructions to install xRecovery.
Once you installed xRecovery continue like this ...
Download GingerDX v013 AND GingerDX v022 as well as the ModulesStockKernel AddOn (you find everything in my MediaFire folder).
Copy all three files onto your SD card.
Once the files are copied ...
Reboot the phone and keep on pressing the "BACK" button once the "Sony Ericsson" logo shows up to get into xRecovery.
In there you select to flash a custom zip, navigate to the GingerDX v013 ZIP on your SD card and flash it.
Once that ROM has been flashed reboot.
Once the "Sony Ericsson" logo shows up again keep on tapping onto the screen to get into ClockworkMod recovery (do NOT boot up yet)!
In there you do almost the same as before ...
Select to flash a custom zip, navigate to the GingerDX v022 ZIP on your SD card and flash it.
Once the flash has been done you select to flash a custom ZIP again and flash the ModulesStockKernel ZIP.
Once that is done you select "Full Wipe (Factory Reset)" and then you are free to reboot into GingerDX v022.
In case of questions, post.

Everytime I've used SuperOneClick its has installed busybox as part of the rooting process. Just try rooting your phone again and put the output from the log in this thread if you're still having issues. This is normally a very straight forward process.

i removed busybox(from market)from my phone and rerooted ,succesfull but than i went to terminal emulator and type su ......no #!!!!!!!
I am going to reroot one more time if a failed i am going to factory data erase!
I'd say re-root your phone with SuperOneClick again. Once you believe that it is rooted, go to the market and search for an app with "root" in its name (e.g. something like "root memory manager" - Or any program that states root access is needed). Install the app and then load it up, it should then popup asking to allow superuser acsess, click "Allow" - The App should load as intended.... This means your phone IS roooted! (Click yes on the popup to allow root access too the app, job done!)
ok i am going to try that but now i must go!
seems like you have to reroot it.
pay attention to the installation of busybox:
if this dont fix your problem then as you said do a full wipe and try again!
@mario1024
The xRecovery Installer (the APK I recommended to you) installs everything you need - the xRecovery Installer will put busybox, chargemon and xrecovery.tar into the system ... you, of course, need to have root.
If you have problems rooting with SuperOneClick ...
Download Flashtool v0.2.9.1 (again, see the link in my Sig and hop into the "Flashtool" folder).
Boot your phone, enable USB-Debugging, connect to phone to the computer in "Charging mode".
- Start Flashtool
- Press the "Root" button
A automatic reboot will follow!
Once the phone rebooted...
Connect in "Charging mode" again.
- Press the "Ask root perm" button and look at your phone.
You will get a popup from Superuser to grant su permissions.
Confirm the request!
- Now click the "xRecovery" button to inject xRecovery into your phone.
Done - rooted and xRecovery in one go.

No, there's no alternative to xRecovery.
EDIT: Not entirely true ... there's the x8toolbox by puppet13th that's able to inject Dual Recovery (xRecovery AND ClockworkMod recovery) - though you need root for x8toolbox to do its job.
Anyhow, since you are trying for quite a few attempts now: To be on the safe side, as the thing that happened was not the intended outcome, try to restore back to plain Stock ROM and re-try from there.
Using a clean Stock ROM may lead to what we want without troubles.

Now continue with flashing a custom ROM ...
I already put the steps on how to flash GingerDX in a two-step process into a previous post.
Hi
Okay. My Xperia Z is rooted and I'm trying to flash the soft mod keys zip which I have installed on the SD Card. I have the correct soft key mod files for my device. I've also got that CWM application on as well......now, I open up CWM and go for the "install from SD card " option, it finds the zip file, I then press the "reboot and Install" button on the next screen, the device reboots and when it restarts nothing has changed.....
Obviously I am doing something wrong and as I'm really rather limited in my skills in this flashing lark then I'd really appreciate some guidance...please don't point me to a generic "how to flash" thread as I've read about 6,000 in the last few days and none have helped!!
Thanks
You install, then reboot.
