I followed this and everything seems to going well except for the part where I want the update.zip to run. What am I missing..at what screen do you press alt+s to run the update.zip? Did I maybe not put the update.zip on the root of the sd card properly because all I did was download cyanogens latest stable release and renamed it update.zip and put it on the root? Please help me out guys!
nvm...I just can't read directions properly.
think before asking....think before asking.....think before asking
Ok I think I got that drilled in my head now..lol
okay...
Before you do ANY OF THIS know that this is NOT all that needs to be done to uses CM'S ROM. Just a few answers.
Always follow all the directions...
That being said...
1.When you are running Windows just rename it "update" not "update.zip"
Windows adds the ".zip" already.
2.After placing update on the root of sd turn off your phone.
3.On your phone you have a home button and a power button. Hold them both at the same time until it boots up and goes past G1 screen and into recovery or a triangle.
4. To apply update open keyboard and press alt+s.
Hi all,
I've got a Samsung Galaxy S I9000, but I don't have the stock Live Wallpapers.
Now I wanna install/do this:
"First place SamsungLWP.zip on the root of your SDcard (plug your phone into your computer and transfer the samsungLWP.zip to your phone's sdcard)
1. Go into rom manager and reboot into recovery
2. scroll down to install zip from sd card and press the power button
3. scroll down choose zip from SD card again hit power button
4. highlight signed SamsungLWPs.zip
5. Hit power button
6. Go back until you get to the reboot option I think back twice Reboot phone
7. go to personalize in setting options select htc wallpapers select live wallpapers and pick one to enjoy one"
I can't do the 2nd step, because there is no choice to select 'install zip from sd card'.
Can anybody help me?
I've got the stock rom (Froyo) and the phone is rooted.
Help would be appreciated

nobody?, I really need this now
did you fetch cwm?
The instructions assume you have CWM recovery (or a similar tool) on your phone.
In order to install programs in this manner you have to get CWM recovery. (search for rom manager in market and flash cwm (it's the first option from the top),
then again, I'm assuming you're getting this since you're still on 3e (the recovery most galaxy s phones come with). What I'd like you to do is get your phone into recovery mode and tell me what the very first line on the top says.
Hi,
The first line says: 'Android system recovery <3e>'
theres your problem you need recovery 2e
search for CWM in either update.zip or Flashable Odin version like cf-root.
if you get the update.zip version you need to put it on the root of your internal sd card, boot into recovery and select apply:update.zip you will need to do this twice... then CWM will appear and let you flash unsigned zip files.
if you use odin version just flash it in download mode and when you next boot you will have 2e recovery.
I just fixed it, I did put the 'data/app' folder onto my phone, and installed it, and it worked.
Thx everyone
There's your problem
You currently do not have the option to install (most) zip files from recovery. If you do want this option it is very possible and not too complicated(although this might void warranty) please read the forum guide on how to get CWM (clockworkmod)
I'm having a similar problem, but azzledazzle's suggestion left me a little baffled. I've got rom manager installed, Clockworkmod flashed and all that good stuff, but I'm still not able to install new roms. Now, I'm just about to try recovery mode, and...
Yes, 3e.
But how do I find a 2e thingie? Imagine I'm a gigantic moron who can put things in folders, but that's about it. I apologise for the pathetic help request, but if there's anyone...
Any help guys?thanks
Also having problems installing from sd

Basically I want to flash paranoid android on my atrix hd. There are some bugs like gps and camcorder not working. Theres a fix for the gps but I can't understand it. I need someone to help me with that fix, and explain how to install it. I'm on stock jellybean 4.1.1. I haven't rooted nor have I unlocked my bootloader. I've head of recoveries like safe strap but I have no idea what they are nor how they work. So my main request is for someone to help me decipher the following page for a gps fix as most of the things on that page are too complicated for me. Then, hopefully I'll be able to flash this onto it. Any help is appreciated, and thanks in advance.
Thread in question : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293070
As of right now, there is no fix for the GPS or camcorder. If you flash an XT925 (Razr HD) ROM, you should have working GPS. That is, if you really need GPS, because the only time it doesn't work is when WiFi is off (if WiFi is on, but not connected to a network it still works fine). And we do not need Safestrap anymore, since we now have unlocked bootloaders.
To root your phone, unlock your bootloader, and flash a custom recovery:
REMEMBER THAT BY DOING THIS YOU WILL BE VOIDING YOUR WARRANTY WITH MOTOROLA
Plug your phone into your PC.
To root and unlock your bootloader, you'll need to download Myth Tools from here.
Download the V1.2 from either Dev-Host or Google Docs, it doesn't matter.
Extract the .zip using 7zip or WinRAR or a similar program.
Now go here and download from the first link (Dev-Host again).
Copy the cwm.img that you downloaded from the second link into "Myth Tools - AHD\tools" (you just extracted this is bullet #2) and overwrite the existing one.
Open the file named "MythTools_Launcher.exe", read the warning, type Y, then press enter. The launcher will close, open it again with the same file.
Press 1, then enter twice. Then click install. (If the launcher ever closes, just re-open it. If the command prompt stays open and issues a bunch of confusing commands, don't touch it, just wait.)
Press 6, then enter, and a browser window will open. Click "Download for Windows" (I'm assuming you're using Windows), then install it as you install any program.
Press 4, then enter twice. THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY YOU MAY HAVE It will now root your phone, providing you, and apps that you allow, with full root access to your phone's filesystem. Don't touch it until it's done. Once the command prompt window closes or returns to the menu, continue this "guide."
Press 5, then enter twice. THIS WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY YOU MAY HAVE It will now unlock your bootloader, allowing you to flash a custom recovery, such as ClockworkMod (CWM), as well as custom ROMs through that custom recovery.
Congratulations, you have now rooted your phone, and unlocked your bootloader!
Back in the menu, press 3, then enter, then 1, and enter again. This will flash ClockworkMod recovery onto your phone (the absolute latest version that was built specifically for our device by mattlgroff, which we downloaded and overwrote earlier)
Congratulations, you now have ClockworkMod installed on your phone. Power your device completely down, then hold the power button and both volume buttons to boot into the custom recovery. If it brings you to a black screen with white text, (vol. down scrolls, vol. up selects) go down to "Recovery" and press volume up.
To flash another ROM (Paranoid Android in this case):
THIS IS ASSUMING YOU HAVE AN EXTERNAL SD CARD AVAILABLE AND CAN WRITE TO IT FROM YOUR PC, if you do not, let me know and I can type up new instructions.
Download the ROM and GAPPS from step 3 of this post. DO NOT EXTRACT THESE Once they have finished downloading (be sure your browser or download manager did not receive an error while downloading), move them from your PC to your external SD card.
Boot into your custom recovery, which we flashed above. In CWM (the screen the with grey background and Android Batman in the background) volume up/down both scroll and power selects, all menus loop from top to bottom and bottom to top.
Scroll down to "backup and restore" then select "backup to external sdcard". It will backup all your personal data to your sdcard to be restored to later if need be.
Scroll to "wipe data/factory reset" and select it. Scroll to "Yes -- delete all user data" and select it, any "No" option will go back. (yes, this is tedious, but you will have to do this anytime you want to format, wipe, or flash anything).
You can now select "mounts and storage".
Scroll to "format /system" and select it. Scroll to "Yes - Format" and select it.
Now back in the "mounts and storage" screen, scroll down to "mount /system" and select it.
Now comes the fun part. Scroll to "+++++Go Back+++++" then "install zip from sdcard".
Select "choose zip from external sdcard" and navigate to the location where you moved the ROM and GAPPS zips to.
Select "pa_qinara-3.56-26MAY2013-185039.zip" the "Yes - ________". (the line is just me being lazy and tired)
You're now back at the main menu or the "choose zip from external sdcard" menu (if you're not in this menu, go to it). Navigate back to where the files are and select "pa_gapps-full-4.2-20130524-signed.zip" then "Yes - ________". (just me being tired again)
Now you're almost done. If you're not at the main menu, select "+++++Go Back+++++" until you are.
Select "wipe cache partition" then "Yes - ________". (still tired)
Back at the main menu, select "advanced" then "wipe dalvik cache" then "Yes - _______" (you don't get how tired I am) Now select "+++++Go Back+++++"
Now you're done flashing Paranoid Android! Select "reboot system now" and you're good to go.
Good luck, and enjoy Paranoid Android!
If you don't have an external SD card, let me know and I'll write up instructions for you. Whether you need it or not, I may add it tomorrow after school, it's getting kinda late and I'm really tired.
If I made any mistakes, please let me know!
OK I am a noob just got my first android device in April . You can download and install clock word mod ROM manager from the play store . You have to root your phone first . I have tried every ROM for the HD and I go back to clean ROM everytime , it is 4.1.2 and everything works . You don't need to unlock your boot loader to install safe strap and flash ROMs but you do have to root .

How are you going to give directions for safestrap and cwm.. Lol
But to op unlock your bootloader and install cwm then flash an xt925 rom and the gps will work.. Unfortunately no blue tooth audio or camcorder though. Only way those will work is with a 4.1 based rom.

I wasn't giving instructions for both just letting him know that safe strap will work without having to unlock the bootloader . Sorry if it seemed other wise .

ROMs with custom kernels such as CM, AOKP, and AOSPA will not work with Safestrap, and tru3gam3r wants to run AOSPA.

My bad I should have been more clear . If you want a ROM that has everything working then you can use safe strap and use one of the 4.1 ROMs without having to unlock the boot loader . Like I said I'm a noob sorry.
Since this is a noob thread.
I do want to say that you should always have a fully working nandroid backup that you created with clockwork mod. This way, if you are in a situation that you need that working rom you can always recover very quickly.(within maybe 5 mins)
I typically keep a "stock" nandroid backup on the external SD card for those times when I can't deal with any bugs and just need things to work...
In most threads, it always says in all caps to make your backup before flashing. This is important for these types of scenarios...as well as many other reasons...

Yeah, I had a stock nandroid, but it was from our old CWM that had weird dates/times so I was like "I have no idea what any of these are (I had around 7) and I don't feel like restoring each one, so I'll just delete them all. That sounds good." Luckily I haven't need to use it yet.
Hi there.
I thought i'd try and get the 4.4 update for my Xperia SP as it was lagging a lot and causing me a lot of headache. So spent most of the day trying to figure out how to download CyanogenMod.. and i've got up to Now send the package you want to apply to the device with "adb sideload <filename>... I don't even know how to do that as I'm not techy at all
Was i supposed to send the package to the sd card before doing all this process? I wiped the data rom thing but had backed it up onto SD card before doing that. I restored it so I could try and move the package from the computer to my SD card but my phone just stays on a black screen
Have I broken my phone? Someone please help me as frustrated is an understatement right now. Not to mention crying like a little baby.....
Thanks in advance.
You must connect your sd card to pc through recovery or sd adaptor ( if your phone isn't booting), and extract kernel (boot.img) from the rom zip to your pc and flash the kernel (boot.img) with flashtool on fastboot mode, then enter on recovery and flash the rom zip

Your phone is broken. Now you can throw it away and hope for the best.
Okay I was kidding!
To get your phone back, you may need to at least know how to use a Flashtool. But don't worry I'll point out one by one.. I recommend viewing this post on a desktop browser, as Tapatalk does not show nested [ hide ] correctly.
The prerequisites are a Williams Kernel v7 (Direct DL link) and Flashtool and a custom ROM's .zip of your choice.
Put the custom ROM zip into your SD card by any means possible. Or you may use a OTG cable to connect to a flash drive.
Install flashtool
Execute the drivers installer located within "drivers" folder inside Flashtool's install directory (default C:\Flashtool\drivers)
Tick "flashmode drivers", "fastboot drivers" and lastly scroll down a little bit, find "Common drivers for Viskan board" and tick that as well. Finish the installation
Open flashtool. Make sure you ran it as an administrator to avoid conflicts.
Hit the lightning icon
Choose fastboot mode
Hit "Select kernel to flash"
Navigate to and select the downloaded kernel earlier. You may unable to see your kernel. Please change the file type from "*.sin" to "*.elf".
Continue. This will ask you to connect your XSP in fastboot mode. To do so, make sure your phone is turned off completely, hold volume rocker up and connect it to your computer. Once the LED bar lights blue, you may release the volume rocker.
Flashing process will run. It is important not to interrupt the process!
Once complete, remove the cable from your phone and turn it on.
Hit volume up when the lights blink to get into CWM recovery
From another guide:
3) Flashing the custom ROM
You can navigate in CWM by using the volume and power keys or by swiping the screen up, right, down, left.
NOTE: Please understand methods are vary for different ROMs. Please prioritise steps provided in a custom ROM thread. This guide however, can be regarded as a "logic" for you to flash such custom ROM.
Wipe everything you can.
WARNING: Please be careful to not wipe the /boot.
go to "Mounts and storage"
Format /system
Format /data
Format /cache
Go back to main menu
Get into "Advanced" > "Clear Dalvik Cache" (this is quite optional)
Go back to main menu
Attempt "Wipe data/factory reset"
Flash the custom ROM zip you've downloaded.
Go to "Install zip"
Choose "Choose zip from /storage/sdcard1" (I am assuming you've put the zip into your SD card)
Navigate to the zip you've copied, and select it
Choose "yes"
Flash gapps. The flashing process is similar to how you flashed the custom ROM zip based on the steps above.
Reboot the phone
You now have your preferred custom ROM installed! Congratulations! Set up your phone as usual now.
Restore your applications backup if you wish to have your apps back.
Your steps end here.
