I downloaded juice defenfer and started the setup and enable the experimentally tablet feature and I saw my battery move only 5% since last night I am still testing it out with reboots and downloading but I see a major deference....
From what it says it disables the celluar broadcast for people with the tablet plans which is apparently the cause of the battery drain on most tablets because its running when you doing need it...check it out

Yeah, I have been using Ultimate Juice (about 4 bucks) for quite some time now. They program is good, generally, with a couple of bugs of course. Now I managed to find its stable state...
I am just living the xtra battery life

I used this on my elocity A7 (rip). Using Juice now and seeing a subtle difference. An added battery saver is Screen Filter. It can darken the screen past lowest setting, makes reading in the dark hella better.
Thing is, how does this effect incoming video calls or even voice calls if you have sipdroid? Doesnt it turn off the radio till you turn it back on?

^^This. I'm all for extended battery life, but not at the expense of (for some of us) core functionality.
Also, can you choose which radios to use? As in, no cellular, 2G, or 3G and 4G only when web surfing, 2G only when playing a movie, 3G only when texting, etc.?
It can be customized (free) but probably not to the extent of picking what service uses what radio. best to email the dev and ask. There are free, pro (.99) and ult(3.99) versions. I also turn on airplane mode w/ wifi on when not using 3G. That makes a difference too

I have a problem with cell standby killing my battery. Its the single highest.used thing that is draining my battery (its over 30% and only other thing in that ballpark is the display) . The only mods I have added to stock is droidjunks power toggles. It seems like every time I change something on the bar up top with this phone, my cell standby becomes a serious battery killer.
Is there any reason for or solution to this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

are you between 3g 4g wifi i know when i toggle between wifi 4/3g it uses a lot of consumption just scaning for newworks etc.. and you might have power saver enabled so as soon as you turn your "off" it disables data and then you turn it back on it enables it sometimes it more harm than good... sorry i can't help more..
Download juice defender from the market and play with that a little... Auto toggles data when you want it too (screen off, etc.) Makes my battery last at least 50% longer.
I'm not messing with juice defender. I don't like apps that shut off data as a power.saving method.
My problem isn't typical as I've seen other users screenshots showing what is draining their battery and it's never over 30%. I didn't have the issue until I messed with the notification bar. Just curious to exactly what caused the issue and if anything can be done about it. I don't keep wifi, Bluetooth, or GPS on unless I am currently using it.

Sorry but juice defender doesn't work for me. I use too much data and too frequently to have it being shut off on me. I have professional email accounts that sync every 15 minutes. That's not the cause of the issue as I've been doing that far longer than I've had the issue.

Yes. I'm going to try turning off 4g and see if that helps. That could be the problem because I just got 4g at my house a month ago.
Im more curious to exactly what happens in cell standby that would cause battery drain?

Cell standby is actually all of the power used by the cell radio, if I am reading this right.

I believe so to. Im pretty sure its the 4g sucking my battery down. The first several months I had this phone, they didn't have 4g at my house yet.

Just so you know Juice Defender has a setting which will turn your data on at an interval set by you and for a time set by you to sync even with screen off.
It's not like it just cuts the data because it feels like it. Juice defender works perfectly for me and has been one of the best apps I have purchased.
But to me it seems to most likely be that your 4g is on ALL the time.
With 1d 11h 6m 45s on battery, I get 9% for Cell standby, hell Facebook almost uses more battery than it (this is also a 3G only area).
i think radio is consuming the power.

I do know that, but I can't control when my email comes and need to receive it as soon as possible. For this reason, I can't have data even being shut off in predefined intervals.
I've currently turned off 4g to see if things improve. Unless your streaming videos or downloading larger files, 4g doesn't seem necessary for the majority of things.

Juice defender also has a whitelist feature so you can pick what apps will always have a data connection. So if your email account syncs every 15 mins then it will continue without interruption.
I've found that the cell standby happens when I'm in a fringe or low coverage area

Lately I'm having the same problem. standby accounts for 41% of my battery drain. I'm draining at about 10% / hr with very light usage. Smoke let's stay in touch!

Hi to everyone. I forgat to turn my wifi off during my working hours. In the nd of my shift, i check my battery and it was proximately %5 left and even i didnt use the phone during my shift. it was %50 or something before starting. Does wifi still work even on the sleeping mode?
Thanks guys
no it stays on unless you set up the power saving mode i use custom settings so that wifi etc will turn off at 40% battery
wi-fi is a big battery drainer. Always have it off if you don't need it. Same with gps, data, and auto-sync for various accounts
Try using juice defender. I think the free version always you to enable wifi control (after your phone goes into sleep mode it should turn off the wifi until you wake it up)

juice defender is in itself a battery drainer. don't use those "battery saver" apps. they're all bs. just get in a habit of turning off connections manually when you don't need them.
Are you aware of the setting: wifi settings/advanced/wifi sleep policy and set it to sleep when screen turns off?

Thanks I didn't know about that setting, but my question is once wifi turns off mobile data kicks in. Which drains battery more? Wifi or mobile data?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
They both drain battery equally as much. Mobile data shouldn't kick in unless you have it toggled on.

Use Green Power to automatically disable wifi and data when the phone goes into stand by. There are lots of settings like enabling wifi at certain intervals to sync email/whatsapp/other push services.
On GB for me it's the difference between losing 25% battery overnight without it and losing only 3% when it's enabled and that's with sync every hour.
It seems that on any ICS rom wifi doesn't use any juice even when enabled in standby. Because of the kernel bug in the leaks I'm now on the official CM9 rom and after almost 9 hours with wifi turned on I only lost 4%, on every other ICS rom I tried I get the same results.

I tried juice defender ultimate but connection was on and off and time to time it took ridiculous amount of time to get the connection back :/ also I don't know why with juice defender I noticed sluggish performance phone, after uninstalling everything was much more snappy.
I have wifi on all the time and I only lose about 2-3% over night on stock, I guess it's fine the way it is for me without using all those battery "saver" apps.

I disagree. I definitely get power savings with JD compared to without it. Auto-disabling WiFi saved loads of power for a start, and my overnight drain has gone from 3-5%, to approx 1% with JD running. I'm not saying all batt saver apps are worth using, but JD works for me.
Its a lot easier to have a well-behaved app that DOESN'T use a lot of power itself manage your connection toggling rather than having to remember to do it yourself.

Wrong. WiFi uses more power. Its a separate transmitter being driven by the battery, whereas as mobile data will use the existing transmitter (phone) that's already on, but obviously drive it a little harder than if it was all off.
I spent a few hours looking through other threads, but nothing seemed to quite fit my scenario.
Stock droid 4 with the latest over the air update.
I use the phone very sparingly during the day, and my battery drains very quickly...
Usually take off the charger around 8am and battery is below 20% by 2pm.
My usage is usually one or two 5 minute calls, and probably 10mins of facebook.
Is there a good smart action I could try?
I had one that turned off the 4g while the screen was off, but it made sending picture messages unbearable...
My battery use indicator blames screen, then OS, then facebook....
I feel as if it's not reporting the culprit correctly...
Any help is much appreciated.

I've had similar issues, not sure what I did to cause them. When I first got the phone, 16hrs+ with what I would consider moderate usage was normal. I've flashed AOKP and the battery life is back to normal (on track for 15hrs today), but the stock rom is a disaster.
I'll let you know what I turn up (if anything), but I have a feeling I'll probably be wiping everything out since I actually like the stock ROM (plus no hw accel in ICS).
Edit: Also, how did you have a smart action turn 4G on/off? I was under the impression we can't control that at all, except via system menu. Is a downside to VZW's 4G...
I believe that was actually via the app Juicedefender.
even with it on i was still only getting about 8 hours...
I am semi interested in rooting/flashing a rom etc, but my last experience there was a disaster(thanks to a ****ty droid eris)
I disabled all widgets except for facebook, being that it's the only one I use...
The only non essential apps running all the time are battery circle, and facebook(widget i guess?)
I'm now charged to 100%, gonna see where these changes take me.
What are your settings as far as Brightness, Haptic Feedback, Screen Timeout, Vibration (Incoming Message/Call or End Call). Also, I recommend just using the FB app instead of the widget as I notice most of the widgets draw power even when the screen is off.
I am currently running Eclipse 1.3.7 w/ xrjxMod, Brightness all the way down, all vibration and haptic feedback is off. Since I am rooted I also used ROM Toolbox to adjust my scan interval to the minimum. I have the screen timeout to the max, but I always turn it off manually after use. I am constantly on either FB, XDA, txt messages or the occasional game/Netflix use and with the exception of watching a full episode or movie on Netflix, I am averaging about 6 to 8 hours on a full charge.
My battery is now sitting at 46%.
Since my last post I used the phone for 18mins of phone calls and nothing else.
The breakdown is 46% voice, 23% android OS, 12% display, 9% phone idle, 8% cell standby...
The brightness is as low as possible, haptic feedback is off, phone is set to vibrate(thats the only way I get calls)
All three location settings are on....Should I turn them all off? I dont know which are important...
I agree with azreal. Check your setting. Haptic feedback sucks up juice and unless you like it is more of an annoyance imo. There is an option for it in language and keyboard as well as in the screen menu for your soft keys.
Do you have your gmail setup to constantly sync? If its not needed un-check it in you accounts menu.
Are you leaving wifi on when your not in range of a remebered router?
If you are not in a strong 4g area set it to cdma only in your wifi and networks menu.
My opinion of apps to extend battery life is a negative one. Its an app that always runs to make things stop running???? Some work ok but most do not.
If all else fails I would suggest the eclipse rom for the d4. As long as you are safestrapped and follow directions properly you can't go wrong. In the case of a bootloop shut the phone off and reboot and you will come back to the recovery screen to try it again or go back to stock. Its nearly foolproof.
You may also want to do a battery stat wipe if your still having issues. Just discharge your phone completly, then fully charge wipe stats and completly discharge again then fully charge once more, and see if you notice a difference.
I get around 15-16hrs on stock and up to 22hrs on eclipse (varies with usage) by following these few things.

I would hazard a guess that having 4G on all the time is one of the main culprits. I leave 4G off unless I am browsing the web, forums, or something else where the extra speed is nice. I use the 4G Toggle widget from the market to turn 4G on and off. I always turn it off before hitting the power button to turn off the screen. No need for it to be sucking juice when I'm not actively using my phone.

I just installed the toggle switch, I'm gonna give it a go.
To turn off the gmail sync go to accounts click on you tap the account. Then uncheck the sync box.
When you want to check your email go to the gmail app hit the menu and sync. Takes about 30 seconds extra but saves some battery.

I'm always skeptical when people blame gmail sync or 4G on battery issues. When the phone was new on stock, and on ICS now, I have three gmail accounts, a yahoo account, and one Exchange account all syncing in the background + 4G on 24/7 and getting around 16hrs of battery life. This was the case for weeks. Then I started having trouble with Verizon's Backup Manager, did a factory reset, and now stock battery life is ~ 8hrs, with 4G OFF
I'm thinking at the very least, there is an issue with the stock battery information panel. My feeling is it hides battery use by the stock bloatware...

I agree that there is probably more to it than just 4G or syncing. Especially where people are getting only 8 hours or so battery life. I personally have noticed definite battery savings with 4G toggled off when not in use though. I can usually still go most of the day even with it toggled on all day but with 4G off, except when I actually need it, I usually get to bed with 30% - 40% battery left as opposed to 10% - 20% left with 4G on all day.
Sent from my DROID4 using XDA
I would also turn all 3 locations off. No need to run the gps when not using navigation. I keep my 4G on as I use it frequently but I am going to try the toggle as well for the extra savings on battery when not netflixing/browsing.

Yep. I'm also having big issues with my Droid 4 battery. First I thought it was the firewall. But even after uninstalling the app, the drainage is absurd. The battery drains so fast, the phone gets warm.
I don't know where to look. I read something about logcat in another thread but could't find it anymore.
My Droid 4 can work about 5 hours on one battery charge. No gps, no 4g and no wifi. If I turn on wifi, it lasts about 8 hours, so I'm suspecting that some process loops when in non WIFI mode.
If you're out of options try using an app called watchdog. It let's you see if there is an app that's draining your battery unusually fast.
Thanks for the tip. But what whatchdog should I use? There are many apps called watchdog

Watchdog task manager lite (free version).
I tried that this morning. Still poor battery life on stock, but watchdog doesn't flag anything. Very weird
Oh well, I would definitely recommend AOKP for anybody having battery problems.
For me today: 4 hours 55 minutes since unplug, 80% left.
Screen time on: 50 minutes (!)
That being said, I do keep my screen on pretty low. Still, you can tell I've been using it...
Watchdog couldn't help me but. My data monitor showed that motorola.services was generating a lot of data the past few days (800+ MB :O ) and responsible for the battery drainage. I blocked it with droidwall. It's better now, but sometimes it still pops up and generates data despite the fact it's blocked.
So glad that I have an unlimited internet plan or else I was really screwed
So I know there's a thread in the general forum for the Edge (all versions) but I figured with so many different variants, some have 4g, some don't etc., we could round up people's battery life on the Verizon version of the phone. I am running Clean Rom and these are the best stats I've had... greenify non essential apps, no gps unless i need it, wifi probably half the day, screen auto brightness, bluetooth always on connected to a moto 360. IDK how some people get 6, 7, or 8 hours of SOT but I have only gotten to 4 once... since running Clean Rom is seems to gradually getting better.. before Clean Rom I was struggling to get 3/3.5...

I wanna know too
I put my phone on the charger last night when it was at 80% after being on battery for 12 hours!
Right now I'm down to 92% after 2 hours, but 30 minutes of that was Waze screen on and I'm in a terrible service area.
I've found that the stock power saving mode is very powerful, I just can't stand the framerate drop. I'm sure the battery savings would be fine if they could change the framerate back to normal. Speaking of which, is there any possible way to edit a configuration to change only the framerate for power savings mode?
Mine sleeps like a champ. I had about 20 hours off charger yesterday with a little over 2 hours SOT and was at about 47%. I was pretty surprised by that to be honest.

Thank you dude!! I did just the items above in bold and it has helped immensely. Here it is 11:50PM and it just started beeping low battery about 10 minutes ago.
I was lucky to make it to 6:30 PM before.
So I downloaded an app Called Google Connectivity Services.
Strangely this seems to put my radio to sleep, which it was not doing before.
Can anyone confirm this?
I've been running cleanROM for quite some time now and it seems that my battery is getting worse and worse. I'm lucky if I can get 8 hours out of my phone with not a lot of use. For example I'm down to 82% battery and I've been off charge for 37 minutes. That is absurd amount of drain. The biggest offender always seems to be cell standby. I've tried the enabling advanced calling but it doesn't seem to have helped. Looking at trying a different rom or maybe just doing a wipe and reinstall of cleanRom. Anyone have any suggestions?

Does disabling ANT services mess with wifi calling? That's the only reason I wouldn't want to turn it off if so.
The battery life on my phone has been straight up terrible, so I'm always looking for new ideas before getting fed up and getting a 6P.
Charged to 100% last night. Took it off charger at 3AM, never touched the phone til morning, and at 930AM, it was at 75%. 6% of that, the highest percentage, was due to "Android OS".
Meh.
Mine was terrible enough to bring me to these forums to see what was up. I wiped the cache and that fixed it. I'm back to 15-17 hours (4G and Bluetooth on, WiFi off)
