Will official OTA updates work on my rooted IncS? Also, before I rooted my phone, I took a backup with CWM. If I restore to that backup, will the root be undone?
Final dumb question of the day, Can I unroot and set S-ON to my phone again? If needed?

Hey all,
So I rooted my phone about a week ago and got rid of all the garbage htc/at&t bloat. The rom itself is factory but I'm running a different kernel. Would doing an OTA update to 1.29 brick the phone or cause any other issues?
Avoid it? Flash a 1.29 rom from in here?
Thanks

It will be ok if you just unlocked the phone. But once you apply the OTA then more then likely you will have to root your phone again.
If you removed HTC and ATT stock apps, you won't be able to use the OTA update as it checks for those items. You would also need to flash stock kernel back.
Hope you backed those items up or have a full nandroid of it before rooting.
If you restore those items so that you can use the OTA update, you also most likely lose root and have to root after.
I believe bootloader status remains untouched though.

I currently have a AT&T HTC One (m7). I have my phone rooted and my recovery flashed with TeamWin. I'm still on Jellybean and haven't upgraded. I'm confused what direction I should take. I want to update to the official Kitkat image for AT&T and have my recovery flashed still with teamwin and rooted. I currently have S-ON.
Here's a few questions that I tried finding answers for in old thread post, though I'm just confusing myself more.
Should I take S-Off? Since I'm still on Jellybean and I hear it's easier... can I revert back to my phone looking stock if I do this?
If so how do I do it on Jellybean?
How would I revert back to stock, S-On, stock recovery, no root from Kitkat, S-off, rooted, flashed recovery?
Can I upgrade from Jellybean, with flashed recovery and root to Kitkat without losing all my data? How would I do this?
Thanks for any support you can provide with any of these questions. I've been trying to answering them though the more I read the more confused with a direction I should take. Thanks for your time read thru this, if you need me to explain anything further please let me know.
Yes Do SOFF now, if you can.
Then all you need is stock recovery and stock ATT JB system. IF you have modified the system/removed pre-installed apps, you may run into issues with OTA.
Best case scenario will be to SOFF and then move to US DEV, this will remove ATT bloat, while Keeping the sense. Ofcourse more work.
Hey guys, I just finished downgrading from Lollipop .6 back to 4.4.4 on the Pure Edition (US) and upgrading to 22.21.11. I couldn't update to .11 from .6. I have a some questions now that my whole process is complete...
1 - Is their a way to root the Pure Edition that would allow me to take future OTAs without needing to downgrade next time? If so, I am wanting to root my phone again, where is the safer root method? I used CF-Auto Root when I rooted back in November.
2- Or is the downgrade/upgrade always going to be necessary on Lollipop on the Moto X (2014)?
3- Can one make an unrooted custom recovery nandroid image by booting to the custom recovery from adb? If so, what is the procedure? I would like to make a nandroid of my phone before I root it, so I can have that custom image to flash back to if I need to update Lollipop the same way again.
Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate it! Merry Christmas!
I have a s-off stock rooted M8 that is running the same version of kitkat that it had when I got it in 2014. I've been thinking about updating it to marshmallow but I have a few questions first. If I'm reading things correctly I can upgrade through the ruu off of HTCs website and I'll keep s-off but I'll lose root and the bootloader will be relocked.. Am I reading that right? If that'ss the case, since I'm s-off is there a way to reinstall twrp and flash supersu without using the unlocking tool on the dev website? And yes, I know I can flash a custom rom that's already rooted but I happen to like the htc stock software.
If I'm rooted on 4.4.4 can I just go to about phone and update it from there and lose root? Or do I have to flash a 6 rom?
I've sort of come to the conclusion that I'd rather have an updated phone than root access at this point. But I'm not sure if I want to start from scratch and re-download all my apps and configure all the settings again.
You will probably need to unroot first. If you are using a rooted stock Rom, you might be able to then update ota. Chances are you will need to reset and wipe at some point though. I'm in the same boat, I want the MM features. However, I will not give up root. I will wait for a custom MM Rom with root or just stick with lollipop and root.
