That is assuming you know the right number to begin with. If you bought from Dell their site will have the tag number, I think.

I've never had an issue with restoring back to stock WiFi ROM. I recommend that you compare your Service Tag under the About in Settings and then comparing it to your Service Tag number printed on the inside of the flap where you can access the port to the SD Card. If it matches then this is a non-issue. Did you compare the two? This is a first that I've heard of with this issue. I just put stock back on my Streak to prepare for Dell's OTA update to Honeycomb and I had no issues.
could some with a u.k wifi version get the glunb number youll find it in build.prop in system/
thanks

You can find the "Stock ROM" here in the forums, simply do a search. Or you can try what rickwyatt posted to fix your service tag.
I too have the same issue with the Service Tag changing. It is because I followed the instructions from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14303822#post14303822 using solidsnakes files. I think it must be because p23.img is included which has the tag in it.
To resolve this, how do I edit & flash just the p23.img. I tried it but it killed my streak, am reflashing now.
I did it with a hex editor then reflashed the hole rom
That worked, now I just need to figure out how to change the GLUNB as it doesn't appear to be one of the c"standard" ones as mentioned elsewhere on this site. It is GLUNB1A133830
No need to change

You don't need to do that. I just updated my Wifi version without changes. Go to the below link which is my post on what you need to do. It's really simple to upgrade.

Editing p23.img for Service Tag AND PPID
This worked for me on the US WIFI model. For those of you needing to edit p23.img to change the service tag, if you look a little further up in the prior entries before the service tag you will find the PPID number which can also be found on the inside of the cover for the SD card. This is like the device serial number or something along those lines. Anyway, I edited both the Service Tag number and the PPID to my own from the SD card lid and was able to connect to Netflix and stream without issues even though I could not find the mac address to edit it. I hope this helps those of you that cant stream Netflix after the nvflash of Froyo 2.2.2 with the files posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252840 Maybe what Netflix sees as duplicates is not the mac address but the PPID.

I'm currently on Cog 2.2 B7 and have been having some wifi issues. A little reading has me thinking maybe it's the Android ID. I'd like to find out what the original is or how the whole ID thing works in general.
I understand when I bought my phone it had an ID set. Is this actually tied to the phone? As in, if I revert to stock firmware will I have the original ID back? Is there any way to generate that ID without flashing back to stock?
I know how to change it just not sure how to find the original.
Thanks!
EDIT: It appears this is being answered in another thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810967
If you flash to stock, the original ID will be back. So far there isn't a way to generate the original with any other rom other than stock.
Someone also told me that if you had an older Nandroid backup file of your 2.1 setup, you could use Notepad++ to view the datadata.img file and find it there buy doing a search for "android_id".
I flashed back to stock and then wrote it down to change via Terminal Emulator. However I also learned that once you make a TiBu of a 2.2 setup, if you had changed your ID number to be the correct one, it will restore it back, so you don't have to keep changing it.
android id has absolutely nothing to do with wifi.
That said, it well be good knowledge for you to know how to do it. Unfortunately, flashing back to a stock rom is the only way to get it, unless you have a nandroid back up from when you were running stock. Somewhere posted in mass of the cog thread someone posted a method for extracting you id right from the back up. If I find that post again I'll post a link to it here.
I was having issues with wifi as well after flashing to cog 2.2 beta 7.
The fix that worked for me was giving my captivate a static IP.
Go into advanced settings in wifi and enter these for static IP.
IP: 192.168.2.4
Gateway: 192.168.2.1
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
dns 1: 192.168.2.1
dns 2: blank
before doing this I couldn't connect to my home wifi at all. Now it connects just fine.

I had a backup from cwm, so tried this method. However, there are many different values, not sure which ones correct. some are all capital alphabets, some just numbers. Anyone know how to read it correctly?
Try using unyaffs to get it off your old datadata.img:
I outline how here.

That's my problem, too. I only see some strange symbols. I opened the save file with a text editor and a hex editor but with the same result.
So what do I have to edit in the save file

[Q] Why Do I get this error "The Parameter is incorrect." Trying to Write to my Phone
I have a brand new Samsung Captivate from Rogers.
I have updated it to 2.2 using kies.
I then did the one click root.
Now when I connect it to my computer I get "The Parameter is incorrect." every time I try to copy a file or make a new directory.
I have formatted the memory from the phone and I can then copy files or make folders temporarily. Until the phone decides that it wants to throw the error again.
I can also run a check disk from my computer with “Automatically Fix system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" check. This will also fix the problem temporarily.
So how do I fix the permanently?
This is my first post so please don't flame me to bad.
Thanks in advance.
looks like something wrong in your computer. try to reinstall the usb drivers and switch to another computer to see if it still happens.
I have tried it on my desktop, my laptop and my work desktop.
The problem always reappears.
I am using the driver from the Wiki.
Windows ?????
Windows 7 x64
Parameter is incorrect error:
You need to make sure your drives (SD) are/is formated with FAT32.
This will allow maximum file size of 4Gb.
I have formated fat32 and it has just started getting the error again.
I found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-907854.html
this is what is happening to me.
Has anyone found a fix?
i had this issue with stock 2.2 rogers.
one time i was able to fix by right clicking the phone in my computer> properties> tools > scan for errors. Found some.
it was also deleting files/songs that i put on the internal sd.
returned the phone. no problem since, but have also been using custom roms since.
This is weird. I had the same problem on an old version of di11igafs rom. It was related to the file vold.fstab which deals with mounting storage. I find it odd that this is happening o a sock rom. If any of you feel so inclined upload your vold.fstab and ill have a look.

Did you return the phone ti rogers?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using XDA App
If you use root explorer or ASTRO (which is free) to navigate to the root directory of your phone, look for the folder named 'etc' inside that folder should be 2 VOLD files. make a copy of these.
PS: MAKE SURE NOT TO MOVE THEM!!! xD (or delete O: )
So I just got off the phone with samsung and they told me to return the phone to rogers because rogers website is giving the wrong firmware.
Now I do not know if this is true but I would like to fix the problem.
They also said that I can not put the correct 2.2 on as kies will see the wrong 2.2 and not install the correct one.
So now I guess I have no choice
I have attached both of the vold files for you to look at.
I hope someone can come up with a fix as Rogers does not want to change the phone. They are waiting on a fix from Samsung and Samsung says there is no fix coming and that I need to change the phone.
Is there a way to go back to 2.1 Rogers?

use odin 1.7 with
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19201431/SGH-I896_UXJI2StockRogers2.1.zip
to get back to 2.1 rogers. use the PIT file and RE-Partition. i have been flashing phoenix roms with no problem.
i only had those error problems with stock 2.2 after updating, but to be honest only had the phone less than 1 week between 2.1> 2.2>custom> returned to store. the second phone was on phoenix within 2 hours of getting it.
I am hoping that someone with an Ativ S can download the "DiagnosticTool_Sprint" from the Windows Phone store and upload it here. It is available if you set "oemId=htc" in fiddler. I think there are some hidden pages we can use to interop unlock HTC.
Link:
"DiagnosticTool_Sprint" for Windows Phone http://www.windowsphone.com/s?appid=e69a2877-59b8-43ed-898d-554fbc4b8b2b
Thanks!
To be clear, you are asking that somebody download this HTC app to their phone and install it, then use the MTP full file system access to extract the binaries for reverse engineering? Sounds like a plan, if I could persuade my phone to do the full file system access thing right now I would (away from home, on my Surface RT right now).

Hi
first to download this app we need someone with a sprint device to grab correct url using fiddler.
like this one:
Code:
http://marketplaceedgeservice....................os=8.0.10512.0&cc=us&lang=en-us&hw=268473858&moid=sfr-fr/
this way we can have correct hw & moid value & install on any device...
@GoodDayToDie yup. that is what I am asking for. Based on what @thals1992 saw when he was playing with this on his 8XT is that depending on what dial codes you put in, the same app loads with different pages.
@xboxmod the only thing that needs to be changed to enable downloading from the store is the oemId. It needs to be HTC. I was able to download it to my T-Mobile Branded 8x (which Sprint doesn't even sell) with no issues. (it's moID is "null" for some reason on my phone after applying GDR3 and hard resetting)

@GoodDayToDie @xboxmod Apparently there is a capability called <!--Capability Name="ID_CAP_NVREADWRITE" /-->. Too bad it's commented out in their manifest :/ I wonder what it does? (besides the obvious, based on the name)

Copy and paste your current settings here.
Alternative boot in your recovery and use adb pull to get this file.
