Hi all,
I'm pretty much a noob here, though I'm trying to read and figure out what I've done wrong.
I was on v10c and had rooted my O2x using superoneclick, easy-peasy. Had SU going, and TiBackup. Backed up my files to Dropbox, decided to go ahead with the LG update, not realizing it would remove my root.
I had frozen a bunch of apps with TiBackup, and those seem to still be frozen, so that's all good. Everything is mostly working well, except I can only move some apps to SD, some just say it's full, even though there's 3gb free. Oh well, it seems to fix it if I un/reinstall, but I'm not so short of space that it's a big deal.
The annoying thing is that SU keeps popping up saying I'm out of date and of course I can't update it without root and I can no longer use TiBackup. I've tried using Superoneclick again but it thinks I'm still rooted. So I tried un-rooting it, but that didn't do anything as when I rebooted and went back in, Superoneclick still thinks I'm rooted.
Any ideas? Also, please explain it as though I'm dumb, cause for these purposes, I kinda am.
TIA
Oliver
btw, at the mo, I have no interest in custom ROMs or whatnot, just want to be able to backup & restore stuff.
I rebooted my computer, rebooted the phone, plugged it in and tried to un-root it again. This didn't get any popups, though I did get a 'FAILED' message at the bottom of the superoneclick message window, can't remember which operation. Nonetheless, I took it as a positive. Rebooted the phone again.
Now it's stuck in a reboot loop! Ffuuuuu.....!!!!
The battery is low, so I'm going to put it on the charger for a while and see if it decides it wants to boot later.
So for THIS problem, I've read that you should take out the sim and battery for a while and try booting it later, correct? If no go, then do a factory reset?
So if I DO a factory reset, what are the correct steps to root the device afterwards? I assume a factory reset just puts Android v2.2.2 back on but doesn't touch the firmware, so it'll stay at v10e, correct? I figure I'll just have to run Superoneclick once and then I should be good to go, right?
Thanks again,
Oliver
This mucking with my phone scares the bejeebus outta me - I always figure I'm gonna brick it. But it's worth it if I can disable the awful Car Home, F-Secure and the horrible FB/TWitter/Myspace crap that LG cripples the phone with.
Just factory reset phone and then root using superoneclick...if that doesnt work, load custom rom, topogigi would be nearest to stock

Okay, I tried to reset it by holding VOL- and then turning the phone on. It says 'S/W UPGRADE Please wait while upgrading' but it appears to be frozen there as it's been sitting on that screen (while plugged in to power) for about 20 minutes.
Any suggestions? Is it safe to pull the battery and try again? Should I have done VOL+ and HOME and then powered it on?
I'm starting to worry here.
I think our phone is unbrickable. I have even tryed to repartition it (failed) and I still managed to fix it. You can follow this guide for going back to stock and then you can upgrade to 10E with lg tool and then do the root. the guide is in greek and i translated it with google translate. How to return to the Stock Rom LG 2X
Caution: The perierchomena of internal sd will be erased.
Go here and download the Greece / Italy Firmware.
Download drivers and smartflash here.
Run the SmartFlashTool_P990.exe from PC
Close the phone, remove battery, connect the phone and hold down the Volume down (Here we should see a message "software update" and "COM port" in smartflash will be filled automatically after install the drivers if needed)
Select the "ROM Copy D / L"
Check that the "Normal Mode" is selected
Check that the "Erase CAL" is NOT selected
Press the button "browse" next to "AP Bin:" and choose the (BIN) file
Press the button "browse" next to "CP Bin:" and choose the (FLS) file
Press "Start" and wait to complete the flasharisma

These I have tried without any problems, but I have to say:
NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE Pathe ...
Thanks very much for that, orlox.
I did end up getting it working. I don't know what S/W upgrade was all about, but I decided to pull the battery and try a reset again. This time it worked, in no time flat.
Here's the weird thing.
I set it all up from scratch, and when I plugged it in to root it again, Superoneclick said it was already rooted, did I want to go ahead anyway. I said no, then downloaded Superuser - sure enough, rooted. WTF?
Weird, but I'm not going to argue. Everything's working and it's working well. I don't know what app it is, but the more I install, the slower it gets. Not awful slow, but noticeable. A "fresh" phone always feels so snappy. I don't do all that much, but I put on GO launcher, a bunch of apps. I only use 3 home screens. I have the GO FBwidget, APW Calendar, Typoclock and Fancy widget forecast (4x1). Then I've just got some app shortcuts and that's it. It's not laggy. Just..... not quite as snappy as it was before I installed everything. Perhaps I should just can all the widgets? But then wouldn't I just have an iphone?
Anyway, thanks to those who responded.
For those interested, it is still on v2.2.2 and v10e.
if you dont use a2dp bluetooth and fm radio go for cyanogenmod. Youll see a HUGE speed improvment
just go for v20e if in case its still slow, or even Cyanogen. As for me, same thing and same scenario happened, did a factory reset and that's it, its fixed. As for slow performance in v10e, removed most LG apps except SNS and App Adviser and its all good even on the stock LG Launcher

Ok, first of all I know it's been said not to mess with Framework. I read that too late =/
I was trying to install a status bar replacement, which overrides framework-res.apk. It sent it into reboot loop. I can get to recovery screen, but factory reset doesn't do anything of course.
I also can get to bootloader. It gives me the following:
===
Bootloader
29.01
Battery OK
OK to program
Transfer mode:
USB
===
It's connected through USB and bootloader recognizes that. My question - is there a way to push original framework-res.apk back to the phone or is it completely bricked?
I posted in an existing thread about this already, but figured I might have more luck with a new thread.
If you
Code:
adb devices
does it show up? I'm unfamiliar with this type of situation. =p
Oh sorry, forgot to mention that. adb devices doesn't show anything in either recovery nor bootloader.
When connecting through USB and starting bootloader, I can hear the sound of device found on my PC, but it doesn't get found and is listed as "S Flash OMAP3630 MI" with a ? mark in device manager.
Yikes, can't help you with the obvious then (just pushing framework-res.apk again).
Yeah, I was really hoping to somehow get in there with adb
As suggested in another thread, I tried applying .604 update, but it aborts when verifying current system with CityID.apk as a reason. I removed it along with other bloat from the phone.
Also when trying to remove app files I don't have on the phone from update.zip, it fails when verifying the update file.
hey its me again, take a look at this!
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/d...your-x-stuck-bootloop-you-want-look-here.html
Thanks for the link!
That guy got lucky cause it bricked after he put all the bloatware back on the phone lol. So he had all the default apps. Mine gets stuck when verifying my system and complains about CityID.apk missing. And as we figured out, your previous suggestion with removing files from the zip messes up its integrity.
So I went to a Verizon store and got a replacement ordered. I was afraid they'd start asking if I'd rooted it, but apparently the guy helping me didn't even know what that is He tried a factory reset and then just ordered a new phone.
Thanks for your suggestions, guys!
He may not of known that the x has been rooted yet lol. Or you can just find something small and miniscule to complain about on you phone to get a new one. When the dare first came out I had a new one at the end of every month just for the fun of it. And they where always replaced with a brand new phone. Did that for atleast 5 months before getting a cheap wm phone because they felt bad about all the hassles I had.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Did the same thing with mine, except my framework file is there, just renamed. I tried last night to figure out how to change the name back with adb but never could.
to the OP, how did you get to that Bootloader? The only thing I have been able to do is get into "Android System Recovery (2e)", which is done by holding Home while powering up the phone. If you hold Home, you'll get a screen with Android next to an exclamation point sign. At that screen you can press Search to open up the menu system, and then you have the ability to reboot, apply update.zip from microSD, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe cache partition.
I am trying to get into ADB so I can potentially work on this phone and fix it. At the moment I am boot looping like nobody's business
-EDIT-
Found the answer myself on this forum: "Hold down the power+vol down+camera button."
This works, but from what I can tell, it puts the phone into a basic USB flashing mode that is useful if you wanna reflash the ROM. At the moment there isn't anything available which could be flashed onto the phone (need to wait for an SFP file?), so I'm stuck waiting.
If/ when the 2.2 update leaks, I believe I can at least try to install that via MicroSD while in System Recovery Mode. I already unbricked my phone once by doing that, but then removed exactly the wrong APKs so now I cannot use that trick a second time
Yep, that was exactly my experience. If I didn't remove bloat apk's, I'd be able to apply .604 update, but...
And yeah, bootloader doesn't do much at this point since we have no way/no ROM's to load.
As far as I remember, Verizon have one month return policy, so I'd suggest just taking it to them. I had my replacement ordered with no questions asked. I just said I was installing an app and it rebooted and went into a loop.
Black screen of death. It's what I call it because that's all I get.
Here is a summary of what happened.
1) My Samsung Galaxy S started to get slower and slower. I decided to turn it off and back on (using
the power down button) to see if it would get any faster.
2) I would then only get the first start screen, then the graphic S screen after which it would go
blank (black screen of death). After about 2 min, if I pressed any keys, the two buttons on the bottom
would light up and stay on. If I pressed any one of them, it would go off and back on.
3) I could hold the power button and it would reboot.
So, that's were it was, here is what I have tried so far.
a) Check to see if I could get into download mode. Yep, that works.
b) Check to see if I could get into recovery mode. Yep, that works.
c) Hmmm, oh well, lets do a system wipe. Yep, can do that but it still would not boot up. I just get
to the graphic S screen and then the black screen of death.
d) Lets take the battery out. (over night) Nope, still black screen of death.
Based on the above, a flash should work right. Sorry, but I had a lag fix installed. Well no matter
what, I could not get the phone to boot so I guess I better try flashing anyway.
I've tried several images. Most of them get the error "your storage not prepared yet, please use UI me nu for format and reboot actions" OK, this is because of the lag fix. I then installed stzupy's image and that fixed the "your storage not prepared yet bla, bla bla. But still black screen of death.
I've tried flashing over and over, with pid 512, 513, 803. Nothing. I still come up the black screen of death.
So, can someone guide me in the right direction. I've done searches on this but everyone else seems to have had a different problem. Mostly doing a Factory Reset worked for them. I've done that over and over. After removing the battery, after flashing, before flashing. Nothing seems to get me past the black screen of death.
Thanks in advance for all and any help,
Jeff
p.s. Please don't reply with a message saying something like flash X's kernel. I need descriptive instructions such as flash with "this kernel" into CSC (or pda or modem) using XXX pid while checking repartion (or not). In other words, don't assume I know what I am doing. I don't.
there is now way you can save your apps installed but your sd card files will be there.
Only thing you can do is reflash my friend

Really don't care about my apps. (I have everything backed up onto my computer via Titanium Backup) But if you check my message above, I have reflashed until the cows come home. I still get the black screen of death.

Yes sir I believe you are toast indeed! Your internal SD card is probably toast. I believe you're a fine Canadian of course assuming you've got the Bell i9000m? A lot of us have had this and there's a poll on it actually. Mine just toasted out about 2 weeks ago, thankfully i've an awesome friend in Canada on the forum that has helped me out!
No matter what you flash or try to do, it will not mount the sdcard in there or let you format it manually. You'll have to send it back to BELL or Samsung.

Had the same problem today. Wanted to change from JPA to JPO so thought it best to do a factory reset, but when phone booted up again, it started, then the screen went black with the occasional vibration. Tried all the usual things, removing battery & waiting, wiping cache etc., but no luck. Then put it in download mode & installed JPA again, but same problem on bootup. Thought I had finally managed to brick my phone (horrible feeling). So I solved it this way :-
Installed JM8 using .512 pit with repartition ticked, hooray my phone booted up again. The long delay after the S logo & finally completing boot was nail biting to say the lease. Now everything is working great & I am in the process of installing JPO.
Hey guys
I managed to root my device with the first guide (oneclick) and uninstalled alot of LG crap, same time i uninstalled the LG launcer. - Today i got a problem with my device. I couldnt ring and hear people when i manged to get in contact.
I decided to factory reset the phone, but my problem is that i dont have any launcher now. When i do the hard reset thing (vol down + home and power on) i can get to the screen where i can type in pin code, but after that there is black screen cause there is no launcher. The search function dont work but the notification bar is working. so i cant get to the market and install. Mostly it just shows the LG logo when the phone is turned on and the touch screen is working cause it makes the click sound. But nothing else.
Does some one have an idea to how i can get a launcher installed ??
thanks in advance
Please use search function. This problem is already discussed here. You have to use ADB.

Hello my fren.. Did u in the 1st place had made backup or ur rom via nandroid before removing stuff from ur rom? If yes then its too bad.. But there is always an alternative..
1. Download a custom available here and place it in ur mmc card.
2. I presume that u have paulobrien 3.0.1.4 r1 - ClockworkMod Recovery for the LG Optimus 2X installed then flash it via clockwork.
3. Enjoy ur new fast phone!!
naah i did not backup.. thought i would never need it.. but i was wrong..
so here is what i did.
When the nortification bar was working i went into the musicplayer from there, in there i managed to get the search funtion in albums wich gave me the opportunity to search on the internet via the browser (wich i could not open or find cause no launcher ).
I went to 4shared from there and found a launcher but i could not install it because the installing from other source funtions was disabled. Fortunately it gave me the option so i could enable it and i did.. AND YEEEHA i manged to install a launcher and retsarted and it dos work !!!
Before when i pressed the home button it just restarted the phone i could do nothing ! only black screen with logo.. so i reset it and tried the above...
it seems that my phone is still rooted, cause i have the "superuser" thing but when i get time i will unroot it and sell this crap of a device and get back my old Nokia N8 again
Don't just root your phone without learning how to actually use the powers it gives you. If you remove anything from /system you will not be able to restore it with factory reset, because factory reset relies on what is in /system. But I guess you figured that out the hard way.
Learn to use ADB and nvflash, nvflash being the easiest based on the guides at 2x.modaco.com. ADB can get you out of most trouble by editing/replacing single files and nvflash will enable you to overwrite all partitions, i.e. with a stock ROM.
Everything you need is in these forums or in the wiki.
yea the hardway was more fun ;-) (actually not )
I was trying the ADB way, but my computer didn regonize the phone so it was difficult
Now i just need the stock apps and launcher so i can unroot it again
start off with this page:
http://android.modaco.com/content/l...rom-release-v10b-dated-1300166062-15-03-2011/
once you have restored the stock rom you can now delete the clockwork recovery by using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1021554
after that unroot in superoneclick and your all done.

What do you want for the phone - lol?
Funny how when ever some user messes up something - then its the device that is crap
Ehmm the deivce is crap... the sounds is terrible.. and the reason why i messed up was i had problems with the device. When i call some one they cant hear me and i cant hear them.. same with income.. but i can text msg.. and its not my carrier or other stuff.. it is the ceappy device ;-)
I'm a complete noob in dire need of help. I wanted to root my phone, and read the 3 procedures mentioned in the sticky thread. The 2nd one (nvflash) seemed very well explained and was sure to work with 2.3.4 so I decided to use that. As I was in my friend's house I used his pc and installed the drivers while my phone was connected in apx mode. Then I double clicked the "install internal xp" batch file which resulted in a black window with some texts, but seeing this my friend freaked out and closed the window before the process was finished. I told him he shouldn't have done that. I then disconnected the phone and switched it on. It seemed to switch on properly. So I then switched it off again and pressed and held the power and vol down switches to see if I got cwm. This showed LG screen for a few seconds and then the screen went off.
Now whatever I try to do I can only see the LG screen for a few seconds and then the screens goes off. No power on, no recovery, no nothing. And I can only attempt to even power on once, after the screen goes off I must remove the battery before the power button does anything again.
I tried to freshly nvflashing the recovery many times, but it made no difference. Does this mean my phone is bricked? Please tell me how I can solve this as I'm really worried.
NVFlashing the recovery again *should* have worked. So we first need to make sure you're trying to start CWM the correct way.
1) Unplug phone
2) Remove battery for 10 seconds.
3) Insert battery
4) Hold volume-down, do not let go, keep pressing it.
5) Press power button, keep it pressed.
If/when you get the second LG-logo, bluish halo, you can release both buttons, not before.
Nope, that was exactly what I was doing to access the recovery. I tried it again just now and it didn't work.
It just displayed the regular LG logo and then the screen went off. I'm not sure the phone completely shuts down 'cause if I keep it like that it gets quite hot and I can't use the power button again to try to power up. Only removing and re-inserting the battery gives me another attempt.
Is there any chance this is a hardware issue?
Hardly any chance this is hardware related if it was working before the first NVFlash.
Good, next step will be to NVFlash a complete stock ROM. You will unfortunately lose any data you might have on it, but that's the price to pay.
Go here, follow the instructions precisely, skip installation of apx-driver. Report back.

Ok, so I just download the 200mb file, connect in apx mode and double click flash.bat, right? And will this rom work regardless of country/region? I'm from India and was running stock 2.3.4 with v20* (can't remember the letter. God, I hate myself).

It works, yes, but is the original Froyo. This is just a way to get the phone up and running again.
Later you have a few choices. Either install CWM, then install you ROM of choice, or upgrade it to the latest for your region by using the LG Update tool.
EDIT. Oh, and btw, it is better to open a command-window and type the flash.bat command. If there are any errors you will still have them on-screen.
Thank you for all the help and support. I didn't get a chance to flash the rom till now (being on a vacation without a smartphone sucks). But I'll try it asap and report back.
So, how did it go?

I haven't flashed it yet. I've decided to do it after I return home. I'm at my friend's house for 2 more days.
Ok, bad news. I flashed the stock rom you linked. The process went pretty smoothly. After the window got closed and the lg logo on the phone was visible 2 times, I unplugged it and installed the battery. But switching it on wasn't fruitful. It just displayed the LG logo for a couple of seconds and then the screen went off (just like before, only faster). I tried repeating the whole process, even tried to nvflash cwm once again, but nothing happened.
So is it a hardware issue? My phone is no longer in warranty period, so a hardware problem would be really bad...

I don't know.
What would be helpful is to get a copy of the output you get when you NVFlash, it's simply the only way to verify that the flash process went ok. If you have an aborted flash it of course won't work, and may display the behaviour you describe.
EDIT: Btw, early on there were some ROMs which refused to boot properly unless the baseband was of an early variety as well.
If you feel confident the NVFlash has been successfull, smartflash an old baseband as well, see if it boots then.
Its hardly a hardware problem. As you dont have the warranty anymore, and the bootloader is probably corrupted, i would recommend a Jtag service.
Please, dont be afraid of hitting thanks

Now what's this "Jtag service"? (edit- I googled it and it seems to be a method of un-bricking stuff with specialized hardware or something, but I'm not sure I can have that done where I live)
Is there any way to fix the bootloader by myself?
@Trym- So, I should download a v10 baseband and flash it with this "smartflash" tool, right?

If it is you're only the second person in this forum to ever brick his phone. Anything's possible I guess. Some flash cells may have been damaged the first time the power was yanked. But then we should presumably get some verification errors during flashing.
Anyway, I'm at my wits end, and I really do hope you get it up and running, but I don't have anything more to contribute. Good luck.
Corrupted bootloader means that your cellphone simply don't know what to do when you hit the power button, due to the damage. As the cell phone can't turn, the pc can't recognize it. If your cell phone were a samsung, you could try to use a jig to have acesso to the download mode. But I don't know if it would work for a LG. You could try anyway.
And if you live at big city, usually it's common to have some jtag services.

Ok, so I took the phone to the service center today. The guys there said its battery terminals are messed up. They said replacement terminals are not easily available, but they'll try to find some. And of course I'll have to pay for it. I guess it's still better than using the phone as a paperweight.
What do you guys think?
Good luck I managed to mess up my phone like you too. I'm from India. But the difference was that I was covered by warranty. I managed to get a bunch of hardware replaced and was up and running again.
Hello xda forum!
My Gt-N7000 became ever more slow and could no longer update the apps due to a full memory. Finally got around to rooting the phone with the PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT9-ORA-5.08.5-signed (.zip) file using Odin. The plan was to use Superuser and System Tuner to get rid of all the bloatware.
Well, I'm quite the noob and just followed some guide online. The phone rooted (confrimed with root checker) but now displays a yellow warning triangle on start-up and sometimes hanged for no apparent reason.
I then proceeded to try cleaning the bloatware. Using Lite-ROM Creator I imported a "fish-literom" something to System Tuner but it never loaded. I believe it was probably meant for an earlier version of android. I can no longer check what version I have but I would guess XXLT5 on 4.3 jelly bean, something like that. Wished I had found this place earlier and read the warnings: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
But there I was, rooted and messed up, but with all the bloatware still around.
Three days ago I needed to switch the sim card after forgetting to pay my phone bill (again). With the new sim, the phone started up but froze a couple of seconds after presenting the desktop. I switched back to the old sim and it was the same story. I have now confirmed that the original sim is alive again, so it shouldn't block any widget loading data or similar upon starting. Still the same. The silly aquarium background loads and everything works for a couple of seconds, then it dies. To restart I need to remove the battery.
Reading on forums I understood one should to press volume down + power + main to enter some sort of Odin boot. It displays:
Product name: GT-N7000
Custom binary download: yes (1 counts)

"Downloading... Do not turn off target !!"
But after one hour of this I gave up and turned off the target anyways. I re-started the phone countless times now. I also tried to rush to menu - phone details to check my version details but the phone freezes too fast for me to finish the job.
Upon usb-ing to my PC I hear the new-device-sound but nothing ever shows up. It's like connecting a goddamn usb light or something.
I'm quite desperate, since I really can't afford a new phone and also have no clue what back-up program I used to save my life online. Some kind of app that backed up contacts and all, but who the f can remember which one?!
Did I kill my phone?
Is there anything I can do?
I'm ready to try just about anyhing and would be ever grateful for any advice!
Best regards,
Björn
head over to sammobile and download a stock firmware based on your country.
volume down + power + main will take to 'download mode' where, with using odin on a pc/laptop, you would
flash the firmware from sammobile. there's tons of tutorials and guides to learn how to flash back to stock. (youtube, even here on xda)
after successfully flashing, root again, and there is a post (i think in themes and apps) about which apps are safe to remove,
to debloat your phone.
