For some reason, I have tried to flash a different rom on my Milestone and now it's not working properly anymore. Most of the apps malfunction, especially the ICS Launcher. Whenever I want to start the Market, it crashes ICS (reporting: "The application Ice Cream Sandwich 2.4 (process mobile.SyndicateApps.ICS) has stopped unexpectedly please try again"); nothing installs from the Market in the android browser; I can't back up my data from the previous ROM (due to not being able to install the specific application for that task from the market), I can't sync with google (says "Unable to open connection to server"), music player always stops when I multitask, and as a cherry on top, now I can't access recovery mode. Whenever I try to do that it quickly flashes two images, first the one with the exclamation mark in triangle, then the scond I can't identify, then the phone simply shuts off. What should I do now? The patching and update went just fine. The changelog of the CyanogenMOD says "iceandfire-v3.2-Milestone", but I'm not sure of the version of the mod itself. What can I do to work around this issue or where could I have gone wrong? The rom works very well and I was surprised of the features it's offers and the speed of it compared to the stock ROM of the phone, but it's just the above problems that makes the phone almost unusable.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I followed this video and installed the ROM that was suggested in the video comments here: v=63FVDF_V5PI (add youtube.com/watch? in front)
The only thing is that in the video the guy mentions Android 2.3.3 and my phone reports 2.3.5 instead.

Try wiping the cache for the Market, change the language of the phone something like English(Canada) and try again. If that doesn't work, do a full wipe and flash again.
Sent from my Milestone using xda premium
I tried switching the language from British to Canadian to American and then ultimately to German (which was automatically set to the first time I booted on the custom rom, I live in Germany) and that didn't budge it. I can't clear the market's cache since it doesn't show up in the apps. How could I wipe the phone and re-flash if I can't even get to the recovery panel? (please fully read the thread)
I've read somewhere that I need to flash Google Apps in order to Google's services to work (like Sync and the Market for example), and I am able to do that with ClockworkMod, but the only problem is that whenever I try to flash ClockworkMOD recovery and to boot to flash Google Apps in turn, I hit myself again with the recovery panel not being accessible.

The Market app is under Applications > All. It will be there just above Market Updater.
My bad, I haven't made myself clear last time, I've looked in the "All" tab before, but it's not there. But now that I look all that resembles closely is "Market Apps Installer", and has the same icon as CyanogenMod and when I enter it's panel, I only have the option to move the app to the SD card. Still, what should I do with the recovery panel issue? It's the issue that stops me from fixing things.
*bump* Anyone?

For some reason my Nexus One running FRF85B is unable to install or uninstall any apk's. It just hangs at the installing... or uninstalling... respectively. Has anyone else ever seen that?
Installing has always been really darn quick. Now it just appears to be hanging.
EDIT: Adding new symptom: "Manage Applications" shows the apps installed , but their space is forever listed as "Computing...". It's like the manage applications service is just hosed.
Randy
I have seen that as well. I would have to exit (back or home) then when I got back to the applications screen again it wouldn't have to load at all.
Same here, AT&T Nexus One using FRF85B.
The weird thing is, the app(s) actually DO uninstall or install correctly, just that the Market page shows it's not, and hangs at it.
When I force stop the market, then relaunch and check my downloads, they're now reset to the correct info.
Well I'm glad it is not just me. Thinking it was a bad ROM I reinstalled (with complete wipe) Modaco's ROM, then stock Froyo, etc.
Problem went away when I just said screw it and installed CM 5.0.8.
The only problem that persists now is the server error going to the downloads tab of the market. I can't seem to lick that one even though apps download and install fine from the market.
On a side note CM5.0.8 still is snappier than Froyo. I'm salivating at the thought of CM6.
If anyone is also getting persistent errors with the market downloads tab, please chime in. I find it suspicious that I'm having this problem regardless of which ROM is installed.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
No matter what I do I still get the server error in the Android Market application when I go to the downloads tab.
I've re-flashed the Froyo Radio and tried both CM 5.0.8 and Froyo.
I don't see others complaining about this so I have to imagine there's something wrong on my end. I just don't know how to diagnose it. Does anyone have any ideas? At All?

I did see that in the CM 5.0.8 ROM, but Froyo is a complete no-go. I've reflashed the radio, and have been using Modaco's ROM because it is the only one I know of that is just a rooted update I can flash with Amon-RA's recovery, but still no luck.
This is scary.
UPDATE
I went all the way back to Stock, Unrooted 2.1 from January, and still get the server error in the downloads page of the Market app. So for giggles, I wiped, created a new gmail account, and lo and behold, everything works. I could download apps, and they showed up in the download tab as installed.
That pretty much puts an end to thinking it's an app/ROM/radio problem, I think.
I then wiped again, went through initial setup with my primary Google account and I'm back to server errors on the downloads tab.
I guess maybe it really IS a server error. Don't know what I can do about it, except gripe...but at least I can stop scratching my head over what ROM/Radio is installed.
After several days of experimenting, the fact is that on any Froyo rom, whether it's stock or rooted, google's or cyanogen's, wiped or not wiped, new gmail account or existing gmail account, what I'm seeing is that, even if I wipe, go into Android and DO NOT enter a google account, going straight to settings | Manage Applications | running applications, shows "Computing..." forever.
Now, if I do a full wipe, it doesn't know anything about my account, right? And the cache, and all that are all wiped. So, what could possibly cause the infinite "Computing..." in the apps?
Does anyone know?
It happened to me as well last night. I was installing an apk (updating over an older version), and it showed "Installing...." forever. No hardware button gave me any response and I eventually had to reboot the machine by pressing the 3 buttons (luckily this worked. I really hate the thought of pulling the battery out...). After the reboot I tried again and it installed without a problem.
I m on a stock Nexus One FRF91, never hv an issue b4 that latest system update. Looks like it is bringing more issues to me...
what 3 buttons reboot the phone?
The same thing is happening to me. When trying to install any market app, it just hangs at "installing. I have to reboot the phone to get it to stop doing it.
Every once in a while, about 1 out of 15 times, I can get an app to install correctly and quickly, but all the other times it hangs.
It started happening when going to froyo. I have tried several different froyo mods and the same thing happens on all of them. When I nandroid back to 2.1 it is fine.
It happens to me with the Rodriguezstyle mod, the Kang-O_rama mod and the evil n-one shot Noir mod.
In order to fix this issue. You MUST do the following steps:
1. Wipe the SD card.
2. Wipe ext partition (if there)
3. Delete spareparts if you have it ANYWHERE on the system
4. Reboot the system into recovery
5. Wipe all cache's
Tada! Fixed!
This fixed it for me on Kang-O-Rama.
I belive the problem is when moving ROMs and the new app2SD feature stores files on the SD. When moving ROM's, it try's to scan them but fails. Something is stuck in a loop and wont stop .
When taking out the SD card, it ALL works flawlessly (give it a go if you need to install some apps to help)

Press the trackball, volume down and the power button all at the same time.
If you have root then the app quick boot is a one click solution.
When I was or do have a stalling at the install. I clear the market data and this works for me. I also try to keep the cache clear.
I have a Galaxy S I9000M, just came back from repair at the Montreal Repair Depot.
Had some trouble unlocking it to run on Fido network, but finally got that working using Helroz's unlock tool (so, phone is rooted) and unlocked).
Used it for a little while (about an hour) installed a couple of apps, and now, suddenly, I cannot install apps from the Android Market. When I try to install, the app goes through the process of downloading, but then it does nothing. I get no error message, no notice of install failing, the app download indicator disappears from my notification area, and the app is not installed.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
Any idea of a fix? I have powered off/on, no change. I would prefer to avoid having to factory reset, but will do so if absolutely necessary.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Having the same exact problem here...
same issue
Same thing is happening to me as well. It started after I rooted my phone using super one click root.
I also used super one click root on my phone, but the if that's the cause of the problem, then it doesn't cause it right away. I was able to install several apps after rooting, then suddenly I couldn't install anything.
I have read that for some people, unmounting the SD card will work. i had an external SD card installed, but i had that in before I downloaded apps that installed properly. For me, unmounting (and removing) the external SD card did not have any effect on my problem.
For what it's worth, I'm not running any special ROm or anything - just standard Froyo 2.2 (JL2) as released by Samsung for the Bell I9000M (I didn't upgrade, it shipped back from repair with JL2 installed).

let the market update the new version of maps and itll work. its workin now for me.
How can I force Maps to update?
Just some info guys: it seems to be a known issue. Checked the help in the main Market page: http://market.android.com/support/bin/static.py?page=known_issues.cs .
It's under download and installation issues. Please report it if you're having the same problem so they can fix it faster.
Ok the problem seems to be fixed by downloading/updating the Google Maps app. If it still doesn't work make sure to:
-clear data on the market app
-restart your phone
-update Google map and let it install fully
Galaxyluv, can you tell me how to force Maps to update itself? I cannot find any option to make it update

I am not really sure, mine showed that it needed an update. Maybe you can try to uninstall/install Google Map again and make sure to clear data on the market application FIRST.
After clearing my Market cache, and uninstalling market updates, market re-updated itself, and I can now install apps again (who knows fo how long, though). Hopefully, it will stay and i will stay happy.
Under Manage Applications I can't uninstall Market Updater for the above solution.
Any help?
im haviing the same issue guys, i have put a post up with same sort of problems

gonna try this now cheers
Sorry could I get some clarification on the suggestion jayisgod posted? Cos Im obviously missing something here.
I personally force stopped the market App, cleared the data in Manage Applications (btw the Cache button is grayed out) and then restarted the Market app (Agreed on the terms blah blah) and still get the same issue.
Btw in Manage Applications -> All I can see a Market Updater package but I can't delete it or force stop it (both options are grayed out).
Thanks
PS: I am using Darky's Rom V9.1 if that makes any difference

i found the same happened to me, i even tried moving from darkys to ultimate and still same problem, please help us tech genious people
I'm currently on Bell gt-i9000m, and I upgraded to 2.3.3 using odin and XXJVB/JVK
I started experiencing problems with my apps, installing from Market, as well as Applanet(yes I know that app is not legal as such, but I used it to see if Market was the problem) however it happens o matter if I use Market, or install .apk files
Every time Install the app, say Boat Browser (I have tried over 20 different apps), the app works perfectly, until I reboot. I have tried powering off, and plain reboot, but every time the reboot finalizes, in the app drawer shows the icon grey'd out and with a little SD symbol at the top corner. Now I know what you are thinking, after I installed apps, I have also tried moving from SD to Internal, and back, but still same outcome.
I read in another thread that it's the buggy TW launcher, so I used Market, as well as Applanet to install a new launcher, ADW shows under applications list as com.something and it will to let me move.
I am not on a stock rom, however I have tried SimplyHoney, Juwe, and GingerReal. I LOVE SimplyHoney, the blue aura and the way everything looks, I love it. The only reason I found it is because GingerReal my apps disappeared as well.
I have also tried formatting My Internal SD, and External SD, same result.
I have also tried researching the methods on the threads already active, but nothing relevant is available.
So, no matter what App I install, how it's installed, I cannot get my apps to stay installed.
Please HELP! Thanks!
-Dave Husk
That used to happen to me!
Are you sure you converted your filesystem to rfs before flashing new roms?
Have you tried going back to stock and the flash a custom rom?
Is all apps disappear after a reboot, or it is just a few apps?
no just select few new ones i download, even the gmail disappeared, but now it stays, its so weird!
Have u try factory reset? I used to have that problem too but factory reset fixed it.
It happened with me also. For me, uninstalling adw launcher worked. Now I m usinf go launcher and no problem on reboots.
Sounds like a filesystem problem. I had this when I messed up ext4 conversion a couple of times. Flash a fresh rom and lagfix (if you want to) before installing anything.
Greetings all, I've been running 1.1 for a while with root while I waited for CM7 to get Bluetooth working. I had misplaced my nook charger and stopped watching threads due to real life, but now I've found it and had some time to get caught up on things.
I took the NC back to factory and upgraded to 1.2 without issues. Rooted using MN (using the currently latest version of MN, which is like 4.5.25 or something similar). Was able to root without issues, and started reinstalling all my apps. I'm not quite ready to get CM7 on there as I want a good backup of stock so I don't have to mess with dual booting and so that I can read using the native app rather than downloading the nook reader from the market.
Anyways, after I installed everything, I put CWM back on via rom manager, then rebooted it and immediately got bootlooped. Had to use cwm to wipe data and cache to get out of it.
So I started working my way through installing a few apps from the market at a time and eventually narrowed it down to being Adobe Air.
So after I got back in again, I started checking around in the OS and I noticed that AIR comes preinstalled (I checked the updater-script and it does not install air nor flash, but yet both are installed by default). I realized this after I saw that the option for AIR in the market is actually update instead of install, while the application list when I search for AIR shows free instead of update available.
Anyways, I'm about to see what happens after I use root uninstaller to remove it and then install it solely from the market, but I'm just curious if anyone else has encountered this? I have no problem updating gmail or maps from the market even though those are installed in system as well.
Thanks in advance
Edit: Removing AIR and flash did not cause bootloop upon reboot which is good news. No bootloop after installing AIR from market once I removed the default one.. Strange indeed. Must be an issue with checking the new one against the stock one's dalvik-cache entry. I installed a modified flash from the thunderbolt forums so I can get hulu in-browser on here, which works but the video is pretty horribly choppy, probably because I have it on Hi Def.. I'll try low def later.
I had 1.1 and then also went back to stock and upgrade to 1.2 than manual nooter 4.6.16 and was working to get my IMDB to stop force closing and getting Netflix to stop playing at highspeed. Happend to stumble upon flash 10.3 in the market and it asked for upgrade, so I did so and when to rebook NC. Well it now is stuck in a loop even after clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache AND reloading manualnooter 4.6.16. It'll load up to the oscilating color Color dev logo but then restarts loading and gets stuck every time at Nook Co (only partially loads the O). Do I need to go back to stock, AGAIN, and reload the Manual nooter 4.6.16?
Clear data, in addition to cache and dalvik.
You mean in mounts do a "format data" or do you mean clear data/restore to factory?

I'm experiencing lots of issues with Cyanogenmod
First of all: Market
Market was downloaded from here: http://wiki.cyanogen...amsung_Galaxy_S
At first run, market was saying there is not enough space for the application, I went to manage applications menu and I saw that there was no internal storage at all.
I thought it was very weird and wiped everything including devihak cache then another issue appeared (previous issue was not resolved).
Settings were not being saved after each reboot.
In each boot I was asked to go through the android market setup wizard and everytime I had to add my account.
After all these issues, I reflashed Cyanogen including the market.
My internal storage gets recognized, android market account settings are saved but everytime I try to download an app, market force closes just right after when you go to the app's page.
This message appears
"The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly.
Please try again".
It's really driving me nuts.
Secondly:
No KIES support.
Yeah, I can't restore my contacts from Kies
Any suggestions?
I really like this Custom ROM.
It's the best I have tried so far but I'm experiencing issues with market, kies mode and makes want to go back to stock firmware
I really want to keep this ROM because it also has Bluetooth support for Sixaxis and WiiMote controllers as I have heard.
Off-topic:
I guess I may end up using stock firmware again.
Is it possible to install bluetooth protocols to support Sixaxis controllers (PS3) and WiiMotes on stock?
Thanks a lot.

Do you have many apps installed?
About the kies trouble, it will never work with cm7, since your phone isn't a Samsung anymore. Cm7 is built from aosp so none of the framework dependencies that Samsung apps needs are present.

Market in CM7 has this known and well reported issue. The solution is really simple too. Just change your phone's language to English (United States). Worked for me.
No Kies with CM7. As people already told you, this isn't another samsung based rom. Nothing from samsung is included here so no software will work either. That includes kies. btw, kies is hardly a reason not to use cyanogen, personal opinion. You can do perfectly without.
Now, back to restoring your contacts, didn't you have an account on google associated with your phone before? if you did, more than likely your phone had all your contats, calendar, etc sent and backed up to your account. Only thing you need now is associate it again and they'll be sync'd back without you even noticing
If not, well, flash back a stock rom, restore from kies, associate a google account, have it syncronize contacts, flash CM and follow the rest of what i said above. That's how it's supposed to happen.
Read something for the wii controls, never tried it though. I honestly can't find a purpose for controling my phone (or game even) with a wii remote
Or use active sync.
