I received, despite my best efforts, a system update this weekend.
AFAIK, before the update I was able to individually turn off sync services. For example, I disable sync to google contacts and calendar.
I have a syncml server at my office, and I set up my users with smartphones to sync to that using synthesis. I have found that when both google and syncml services are active my users (and me) get duplicate contact and calendar entries.
I am pretty sure that I had that turned off on my droid 3 before the update.
So I was surprised to find that the little toggles in the individual services under my google account were no longer there, and google services were happily syncing away. I suddenly found myself with three times the contacts I had on Friday night.
Has anyone else seen this change?

Hi,
My wife has a motorola milestone and since yesterday the events she has on her google calendar are no longer showing up. If she sets up a new event on the cellphone it stays there and they are even copied to the google calendar, but the ones from the google calendar do not show up at all. I've already went to settings, accounts and made sure her google account was checked as well as auto-synch. I've also forced synching and even though it finished synching properly the google events still don't show up. I don't have a milestone so my knowledge is limited to the general android platform.
Any thoughts?
I did some tests:
- I've created an event ON the phone and forced synching and it did show up on the google calendar on my laptop.
- I've created an event ON my laptopss' google calendar and forced synching on the phone and it did show up on the phones' calendar.
The older events and events that repeat no longer show up on the phone although they are still on google calendar.
Any thoughts?
As many of us know, the google calendar sync process can be huge headache that results in battery drain in the form of the ambiguous "Android OS." Interestingly, even if we choose to manually sync entries, there is no option within the calendar for "visible, not sync." Thus we are forced to keep sync running if we want to see calendar entries. Terrible design. I tried a few third party calendar apps but when you sync them, the stock calendar syncs as well and shows up as "synced, visible" once again. I would like to have my data visible and sync when I please. Seems like this should be easy to do. Perhaps this option hasn't been important for CM7 on other devices because those using phones rather than tablets have access to data transfers almost always, whereas we have to rely on WIFI to sync. How have others worked around this issue? Is there a way to submit a CM7 request for future builds?
In the meantime, you can try ShutUp Battery Saver to schedule syncing. Makes the automatic syncing alot more bearable.

See my response to your request in the CM7 general thread. I use Calengoo and turn off autosync and use "Synker" to set up a manual calendar sync widget.
Thanks for the ideas, guys. I'm not really concerned about having auto-sync. I'm happy to sync manually. I did purchase calengoo and this seems to be a nice alternative to the stock calendar. It has a manual sync feature built into the primary menu. I set it up so that it pulls calendar info from the Google calendar directly rather than going through the Android interface (which I disabled). When I set up an appointment, the sync button is right there to manually integrate the data with the Google server. Works great and hopefully there will be no more headaches with the syncing and battery drain.
Also, the popup reminders in calengoo are really great to have. The reminder on a homescreen rather than the status bar is cool.
You are right. I didn't know what capabilities Calengoo even had. I too completely disabled my Android calendar and set Calengoo up for google calendar only. Turned off completely the google android calendar sync. The sync button on the menu makes it so I don't have to use "Synker" either. You can even set Calengoo to sync on a schedule you set manually if you want.
I even went so far add to "freeze" the google calendar and calendar storage apps with Titanium Backup so that they do not load or run. So far no issues for having done that.

I thought about doing that, too, but I finally stopped freezing apps as a last attempt to improve battery life because some unidentified frozen app was indirectly related to the failure of the device to suspend properly. With no frozen apps (I just hide them with launcherpro so I don't have to think about them!), wifi enabled and set to off with screen off, and the crappy stock calendar turned off, I'm at 23 hours on battery, with 3 1/2 hours display time, and 46% battery left. This is much more acceptable.
I've read some news about google ditching support for WP. Now last news I've found on google were from beginning of January, and there was nothing that answered my questions.
Coming from Android, google integration is something I take for granted (gmail, contacts, calendar, tasks... you name it)
I'm asking you, WP8 users:
- What's the situation with gmail? How can you check gmail?
- Are there notifications, or do you need to 'refresh' manually?
- Are notifications on time (push) or are they checked periodically?
- Can you sync WP calendar with google calendar?
- is there anyone who knows exactly how google sync works on Android and WP, and write down differences?
I'm looking at HTC 8S and desire x for my partner but I know nothing about WP whatsoever (except that it's pretty, very much locked and closed, and some news about google removing support). I know there's no native gmail app.
I've tried searching the forums, but search has been 'temporarily down' for quite some time now.
Thanks!
ps: I know there's a thread that compares mentioned phones exactly, I've read it. I'm just curious about google sync.
Google anounced that they would cut support for new connections using Exchange ActiveSync at the end of January. Devices set up to sync with GMail before then will continue to work like before. In Mid-January that date got pushed back to July. So until July you can setup ActiveSync and keep using it after that.
It is likely that Microsoft will issue an update for WP8 before then enabling CalDAV and CardDAV-support although there are no guarantees. We also don't know wether they will add IMAP-idle to allow for GMail-Push-Mail or if you will be limited to mail checking in set intervals (this is currently already possible as an alternative to Exchange ActiveSync).
We'll have to wait how that plays out but for now nothing has changed yet.
As for your other question: Contacts, Calendars and Mails sync - Tasks to my knowledge don't.
When I got the HTC One the other day, I was using Google Calendar as the default calendar so I thought once I synced the calendar on the HTC One with the Google calendar I would have everything but that doesn't seem to be the case. Also have Pocket Informant calendar installed and that has the same problem. Events for last month and this month and some recurring birthdays are there and also the current month but nothing else. Is there a way to get previous events reloaded in? The events are the main thing. They are all on the Google calendar when I look at the web page.
Tried installing Calengoo, another calendar program, and told it to sync to Google calendar and it syncs everything going back several years. But in the native calendar that comes with the HTC One and PI I only get the current month and recurring dates like birthdays.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling PI. Oddly enough when I uninstalled it the phone rebooted. When I reinstalled it everything was gone. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
I notice too that HTC Sync is turned off and there's no option to turn it on again. Don't know if this is related.
______________
settings>account>gmail account> check if calendar is checked
Yes, it's checked. This may be a tough one.
mhhh then try to remove that account and re-add it
You may have meant remove the mail account. There's no calendar account. Since HTC Sync seemed to be messed up, I removed that, but there doesn't seem to be anywhere to add it back. Now it's gone and there's no account add under accounts and sync. Can't find it in the play store either.
I like feature to get my phone in silent mode when in the meeting, which is automated in P10! But...
...I have a version of VTR-L09C432B113 and I'm facing a problem with calendar app. After few days of use, I believe my calendar DB get corrupted somehow as it works fine until then. I did clear cache and deleted account corporate calendar associated to it which did fix the problem (Google calendar events worked fine!). However, I face similar problem just after two days later (Now both google and corporate calendars are not visible anymore), plus app gets crashing. I also have a google calendar sync activated to the google account and I have read that other Huawei phones have had a different kind of problems with it. I also tried to install google calendar after 2nd-time problem occurred as a tryout and it seems that google app get crashing as well => which leads my assumption that problem is in the object where calendar events are stored or so.
Questions:
1) Could I just delete this calendar object (common for both apps?) which has meeting/event info in w/out re-creating account every 2 days&Clearing data? If yes, where it´s located and how could I do it?
2) is this known issue in Huawei P10 or other new models?
3) Do you know if "automatic silence"- feature in phone work with google calendar?
Thanks for info!
