anyone canmake a rom or custom browser that can invert colours for amoled screen
like white text on black background...
that will be a massive battery saver for amoled
If you have a rooted phone, you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281738
Black background for Opera Mobile Android Amoled Screen battery saver
this was posted by a nokia user,to put a black background white text on Opera Mobile for symbian,(Amoled Screen)battery saver
allaboutsymbian . com/forum /showthread. php?t=99801
An Android phone cannot access this file,so download Opera for Windows and follow the instructions to get the contrastwb .css file(go to opera folder /styles,find contrastwb.css) ,paste it to your phones storage
follow the instructions to use this as your white over black colors (.css file)
(open android opera mobile, type in address bar opera:config, type in Local css, click change, locate the contrastwb file in the file explorer, save changes
id guess it could be edited,to get efficient text colors day/night time
id guess a lot it makes a big difference, you also need barely any light to read in the dark, because of the bright coloured text, screen filter is a great app, especially winter months

Good Morning,
I've just tried to skin my whole phone with metro/wp7. So far I managed to skin pretty much everything but the Messaging App and Active Sync background. It should be black like the background when composing a message.
Here the screen-shots of both (changing the font is no problem, thanks to UItweek):
Screenshot 1 and 2 in the attachment
And thats the way the "composing a message" windows looks like and the inbox should look as well:
Screenshot 3 in the attachment
Thanks for the help
PS: My ROM is Energy.BLACKSTONE.23678.Sense2.5.Cookie.DinikGlass.Aug.18.
Looks great! Good Job!
What would the threaded messages window look like , like pic 2 or 3?
I really like the threaded messages window so I'll post it too. It looks like it should with black background...
Any ideas?
how to change the threaded messages window background color?
That was pretty simple. Either you use UItweak http://www.freewareppc.com/download/utilities/uitweaker.shtml or look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=603905 if you want a picture as background.
The problem: Both won't change the Inbox window background and that's what I want.
i download the ui tweaker but having dificulties on which options to change outlook/sms thread background color, can you point me? thanks
that's exactly my problem, i can't change the inbox background just the background for viewing and typing messages.
If you want to change the "viewing and typing" background just go to "SysColor Changer". Change there the color to black (I don't know which one exactly you have to change for this effect. I changed pretty much every background to black and the font to a light blue. With white font you won't be able to see the text in the inbox window)
In the attachment you'll find my sys file. I tried to style my phone a bit wp7/metro like. just rename it to blue-black.sys (xda won't let me upload a *.sys file) and import it.
thanks, i'll play a little with it
if you have a solution for my problem, plz post it
Is there anyone with a solution or is it posted in the wrong section?
I think its better to close this thread now. Maybe there is simply no answer to that question.
OP, did you ever figure out how to change the background?
I have a theme that has the text input section black, but the chat log section is grey. I want to change the background to black but I can't figure out how.
Can someone please tell me how I can edit a .tsk file to make a black background for threaded sms? I've been searching everywhere and I can find which specific edit I need to make to change the background SMS window colour. Also the font colour for that window will need to be changed to white.
I'm trying to edit this theme I have attached.
Here is a screen shot of how it looks now. and the other screen shot is roughly how I want it to look (with black background).

Hi bobzero
I'm sorry but I never worked out how to get this done. I have skinned the "message writing window" by using UITweak. Maybe yours is not skinned because I've used an Energy ROM and there HTC Messaging is disabled.
At the moment I'm using Sense again with a very good looking X-mas theme. Maybe after Christmas I'll "return" to WP7.
The pocket outlook and contacts background is definied by the "gradient" color values under the registry
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Color]
There are four keys named 15, 16, 36, 37 which are the alternating left to right gradient colours. You could set all of them to a single value to get a solid background color.
I find these through a Japanese customisation software called "PocketHand"

Ok so been hard at work making a nice blue theme. 90% done and looking real nice. Dug alot of xml files and change alot of major system text colors, still got few more to find. Some screen shots are located here:
http://www.tigerznet.com/xoom
Things to notice
Icons are standard blue
The shadows and outlines are blue
Big clocks are standard blue/dark blue
Major system texts light blue
Descriptions a turquoise color
Running on hammerhead but suggested to use morays battery icons.
This is based on wifi model, still gotta dig up the 3g models.
Disabled text/buttons/icons still gray, left these as is for sakes of easily seeing they disabled.
Thing up coming:
Removal of Redundant battery level in quick panel.
Notification text still gray/white
Apps word still white (did change xml didnt work some reason)
Adjust icons for 3g models.
Any other suggestions from you.
Let me know what you think and any suggestions welcomed.
looks good so far
So i have been trying to get a black background that is truly black.
everything i have tried has left a slight hue on the background. back 2 black is not supported or i would have tried that.
is there any way to get background to remain off completely and only light the pixels for the icons, clock, notification etc etc. i notice the info bar at the top is darker than my black background and no matter what i cant get the background to go completely black.
my reasoning is if i make the icons into line art, and keep as much of the screen off wherever i can i can stretch battery life even further. it worked wonders on my gs2. But having a slightly glowing background ruins all that.
I'm not sure whether it's supported, but you can try making a monochrome bitmap-file (.bmp) in MsPaint. At least you are sure this way that the black is truly black.
Have you tried using different launchers? Are you sure the hue is not just your icons giving some 'bleeding'?
thanks, i will give that a try.
its the same with go launcher and touchwiz. its actually magnified on the lockscreen showing lots of banding.
Try this pic. I use it on mine and looks black

My first Note did this so I sent it back. My new one does not do it.
still no luck, apps with black backgrounds look fine.
i tried an all black bitmap and that didnt work either.
is there any way to turn background off and just leave it blank? would that give me a pure black background?
like i said i dont think its a hardware problem since the app backgrounds look deep black unlike the wallpaper. i did see something about the note only being 16 bit and that was causing weird display issues due to scaling or something, blah blah.
its using 24bits
thats right, the note is 24 bit and the os operates in 16 bit currently, right? either way i need to find a way to fix it.
I used a plain black GIF. Works fine for the home screen background, but on lock screen it has barely noticeable dark gray lines in it until you touch it and the unlock symbol appears.
here is the one i made
this black is one color 24 bit png on my note it is completely black at any brightness. let me know if it works. 800 x 1280 black correct dpi blackground
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?gcufvpft3yawf6p
or download "no wallpaper" from the market - simple app that just adds a wallpaper that is totally black. Works a treat.
Try an app called COLOURS by Tim Clark
Hi to all.
I cant find a solution to my problem and maybe someone can help me.
I have found some wallpapers for our Note in the right resolution (800x1280) to use these in my lockscreen.
The problem is that when i choose a wallpaper with lot of black color and choose it as lockscreen wallpaper i can see some horizontal lines on it.
If i choose the same image as phone wallpaper everything is ok.
Where is the problem?
Thank you all.
I have the exact same issue. Horizontal lines on lock screen, but looks fine everywhere else. I don't have the solution, but maybe I can help you out a bit.
I did some searching, it turns out that there's some sort of software bug that doesn't allow black images to be truly black but rather very dark grey. The thread is somewhere in this forum.
Also the native lock screen resolution is actually smaller than the screen resolution because of the notification bar. Per this forum: http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/37268-lockscreen-resolution-compression-issues-false-info.html
Also when you set an image to be the lock screen, it seems the picture is re-scalled and saved again (in another directory), which means compressed again.
Android phones usually don't display images in 24 or 32 bit color but rather 16 bit color, which means color banding. More on that information somewhere in this thread also.
My suggestion is:
1. Find out the native lock screen resolution. I'm also searching for the figure.
2. Edit your photo, change it to that resolution, and make sure the black areas of that image are truly digitally black (000000), and save it as an uncompressed image.
Maybe the horizontal lines are because the image is being re-scalled, re compressed, and the image being displayed at 16 bit color with a "true black but" is resulting in horizontal lines.
The solution is this. I'm using it and black is perfect.

Not bad idea at all...I have used widgetlocker in my previous phones but somehow i had some little problems like small lugs or battery draining.
I dont know if in the latest version is fixed.
But ill try cause i love black lockscreen in our huge super screen...
edit:Not working properly for me cause i have lower destiny...
Ah, what a shame! But WL does work, so if you ever go back to the stock density i highly recommend you using it.
Magick locker is free so you can test that, get a theme and customize wallpaper, set any black image and its fine. so its samsung lockscreen software bug
One simple solution, use wallpaper wizardrii!!
It solved all my wallpaper problems!
Wicked app & highly recommended. Link - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.twistedapps.wallpaperwizardrii&hl=en
Functions of wallpaper wizardrii:
Wallpaper Wizardrii, "Changing the way you set wallpaper" ™.
Twisted Apps just bought an Asus Transformer to make WW work for tablets. We have a beta so if you want to try it e-mail.
Set your own images, Portrait, Landscape, and Crop; all with No Scroll or Scroll. Check out set Exact or Crop Exact! Set images from WW, file browser, or Android's Gallery (Share as). Check Home App compatibility with No Scroll option (only).
Currently I'm using dolphin browser but there isn't an option for me to switch the background colour become black and the words become white.
Is ties a way to do that? or maybe anyone can suggest another browser that can FM that.
Thanks a lot
If you have a rooted phone, you can try my thread: Web Browser With Black Background (Invert Colors / Night Mode) Through Proxy Filter
Without root, you can use a custom User CSS for Opera Mobile: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326434
And apparently ICS has an inverted browser option (it's been in CyanogenMod for some time): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24886232&postcount=27
I found that UC Browser was the only free one which had a standard built in nightmode function.
I use it browser when i'm in need of night-mode browsing
inverted brwoser
where to find the root folder so i can make a folder data/opt. thanks!
In the advanced options of "display" in cm11 there is an option to invert the colors... white gets black and vice versa. However, this way colored images look totally distorted, of course...
