I have a i9000 16GB European version Galaxy S
The menu and back buttons stopped working after I flashed a custom rom. They light but they won't respond to touch at all. I have since went back to stock firmware but the issue persists. I have opened up the phone to see if any flex cables became lose, but the only flex cable there is for the home button (which is the only button that works btw). Can anybody help out? Thanks!
Try to:
1. Factory Reset;
2. Flash Stock ROM with re-partition.

Im pretty new to androids and I installed the Battery Icon Mod without realising that I could harm my phone. Now on reboot it gets passed the "S" screen but just sits there with a black screen and vibrates every 2 min.
Im a bit unsure what to do from here.
The details of my phone are:
Build#FROYO.DTJP5
BaseBand I9000DTJP3
PDA: TJP5
Phone: DTJP3
CSC OPSJP4
Build:2010.11
Austrailian, Optus Network.
I recently reverted from recovery 3e to 2e (no clockwork Recovery) and did the fix to enable the 3 button recovery (Im very glad I did this now!!). I also got root with z4root and have a full app and system backup on my sdcard with Titanium backup
I dont know too much about the details of flashing (Although I was learning as much as possible as I wanted to apply the z4mod with EXT2 lagfix).
What should I try first to minimise damage and get back to as stock as possible?
edit:
I should just add that I have gone to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913 and found what I believe to be my firmware I9000DTJP5|2.2|2010 November listed under USA, would this be the same? I have also downloaded the CSC file which dosent seem to include my version (Do i even need to flash this file??)
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the help but that didnt work
Went into the recovery and chose "wipe data/factory reset"
Still got black screen and intermittent vibrating. When I press the back button I also get vibration.
Do I need to flash? If so what files do I need to flash? Just the PDA?

Flash stock rom with odin. Search these forums for the stock optus rom or download 2.1 jg4 from samfirmware to get your phone up and running then flash jp5 again.

Hi I've got exactly the same problem as you and I recover it by re-flashing a stock filmware with Odin. You might want to follow this link on how to do it?Hope it helps!Cheers!

Thanks guys! I reflashed jg4 then updated with Kies to get froyo! I tried reflashing jp5 but it didnt have the optus apps, so I flashed back to jg4 then used Kies.
Thanks!
Hey guys.
I ruined my touch keys at my I9000 a month a go and I was so fraustrated.
This phone without the back key is so unusefull, and none had the fix for this.
Untill duckbill22 helped me in my discussion I opened to fix it, and there I saw lots that have this problem too..
Fixing:
1. Get your phone to download mode.
2. Download pit 512, and the I9000UGJH2 Rom.: [Pit isn't included]
Download: http://www.multiupload.com/ZNBT2RY5Y0 - Pass: samsung-firmwares.com
3. Flash it through odin [pda= I9000UGJH2-PDA-Kernel-Bootloader-CL490514-Low]
4. Go to dialer, *#*#2663#*#*
5. Touch key update.
6. HAVE FUN!.
I had the same problem...serves me right for pressing things I don't know. God only knows how I haven't bricked my phone yet...
I followed your directions, though I had a stock I9000UGJL2 rom that I used instead, with success.
Thanks for the tip!
sheitmar, does your touch keys activated alone?
I have this issue with my phone. Sometimes the menu or the back key activates it by it self and it's very frustrating. I'm sure I haven't pressed it, nor touched with the palm of the hand. In fact even if I leave the phone alone on the desk it may happen.
Do you think that using the method on the OP would fix this?
Back key randomly firing

I have this issue as well, had it when it firmware was stock but it went away, I've upgraded to Gingerbreak on my Galaxy Captivate and now it's back.
I can temporarily disable the keys by going into *#2663# and starting an update (which never finishes) and then hitting the home key. But then the next reboot the issue is back. And until I reboot I have no working back or menu keys.
Has anyone managed to fix the random firing issue?

Pull out battery, close Odin, put your Galaxy into download mode and open Odin again and try to flash once more.

Fix the dead soft keys! (it works i9000m)
hello you all after hours and hours of looking for a solution to fix the soft keys on canadian galaxy s vibrant i have come to an answer that works!!
if you did the touchscreen update in gingerbread.gkg3 and after that your soft keys died its easy to get them back up.
first thing you need to do is get odin and be able to use it.
second thing youll need to use is gt_i9000m_ugl2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1102881
once downloaded flash phone, pda and csc.
when youre done that reboot and let the 3e recovery do its stuff it might take some time.
boot into android and go to your dialer and type *#*#2663#*#* and press touck key fw update.
voila after this you should be able to get them to work.
if you need any assistance feel free to ask.
i spend days looking for a solution.
i dont know if it will work in any other i9000 devices as this is only for i9000m form bell.
Froyo
Every hosting of Froyo I can find has been subject to take down, or the domain is gone. If you still have Froyo, could you host it somewhere? Please let me know, my phone is little more then a brick without it.
So this is my own fault, and to say it simply, my phone was in a pool (small one) of water. Every single thing works fine, EXCEPT for the home button. (the center button)
I just flashed Darky's ROM 9.5 on, and nothing changed.
Haven't tried wiping yet, but just don't want to do that yet..
Any suggestions? I wanna know if the button still works or not. If its a hardware (permanent) problem, or a software... since entering recovery still works...
Thanks guys
If you flashed a rom then guess would be hardware . You could try factory reset . Darky rom = no warranty .

Hi guys,
Today I rooted my phone by following the procedure of Dr.Ketan to root the galaxy note. Everything went fine but for some reason some stuff went very wrong even if I didn't do anything that wasn't in the instructions. I'm now on stock gingerbread 2.3.5
First I got some forced closes (solved that with Factory Reset in CWM) and when I type with the samsung keyboard I get only "null null..." in textfield. But when I use Swype theres no problem.
My biggest problem is:
I have no longer a lockscreen! So when my phone goes to the black screen after 10 minutes I can't turn in back on. The two soft keys light up for a while just as they should but there's no waking up when I push the power button, and neither does it when I push the home key, which by the way gives me an black with green pixels coming up - screen.. When my screen times I can't wake it anymore and I have to reboot the phone by pressing the power key very long... this is so anyong because I can't use my phone just every 10 minutes
I'm desperate right now. Can't figure it out. What's the solution to this?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Download your stock firmware and flash using odin and re-root.
You can find link to stock firmwares and instructions in this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
(thanks to dr.ketan for this)
The "Null null" is a known issue.
You can get rid of it by flashing the CSC again I believe.
But your best bet given the problems you're having (as mentioned above) is to flash the Stock ROM back through via PC Odin and start again..
Reflash another version GB.
Re-wipe.
You will be fine.
Regarding NULL issue..open mobile odin, select cache and select the ROM you installed..
Null issue will be nullified.
Thanks guys! I flashed the rocket rom over the abyss kernel and it works now!
A friend asked me to repair her phone, it seems that some guy tried to carrier-unlock it and some other guy tried to flash a Firmware for other model. When the phone got back to her it was broken. So she gave a bricked phone to me and asked me to repair it.
Well the thing seems to be soft-bricked, it's stuck in a bootloop, it displays the samsung logo twice, turns off and then on again until batery's removed.
It won't go into recovery (HOME+POWER), but it works in DOWNLOAD mode.
I tried flashing the stock firmware for the phone (S-5830), I even tried with the version for my country and original carrier. It won't work, ODIN gets to flash all the files, then reboots the phone and It's in bootloop again! Tried some other firmwares, none works or goes into recovery.
Also tried flashing ClockWork Recovery via ODIN, no luck. It won't go into recovery for doing the wipes.
So right now I'm scratching my head. I'm noob with samsungs, I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or it's just that this phone is broken.
If this guy messed with the EFS file, that may be the reason it's in bootloop? Is there any solution?
EDIT: THE MODEL IS s5830 SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE! I USED THE RIGHT FIRMWARE!
PD: SORRY FOR MY POOR ENGLISH, I'M SPANISH. THE PHONE SSN IS S5830GSMH original carrier: ORANGE
Thanks you very much!!

I tried newest and oldest firmwares. I don't know what the latest version of Odin is, I tried 4,38. Still not working..
BTW I FOLLOWED EVERY SINGLE GUIDE I FOUND FOR UNBRICKING AND FLASHING, AND I CAN'T GET THE THING TO WORK.
Use Odin v4.42, install the drivers properly and flash the stock. After seeing the pass option in Odin, disconnect your phone from pc which will be stuck in a boot loop. Now, take off battery, put it back in, reboot into recovery ( power + home button, release power button when something appears on screen. ) & select factory reset option ( volume key to move up and down, home button to confirm and power button to go back to previous menu ). Now select reboot system now. Done !!
Hit thanks if I helped...!

NOPE. Tried with that Odin version, it finish flashing, PASS, reboots and the screen is flashing (doesn't show battery loading) until I unplug.
I remove the battery, put it back again, HOME+POWER but still in bootloop, it won't get into Recovery!!
It just flashes Samsung logo twice, reboot, flashes again, reboot... Stuck there, no recovery!! I already flashed this device dozens of times with different firmwares, Stock, Carrier locked, custom, etc... NONE ALLOWS ME TO GO INTO RECOVERY FOR THE WIPES
Go to the service centre, they'll fix the problem for you.
