Hey people, must i lose all the apps and contacts i have when installing a custom rom?,and if yes,is there a way to backup apps and reinstall them,
thanks
When you update the ROM there is no need to do a full wipe (unless the dev says so) but when you are changing ROMs it's highly recommended to do a full wipe in order to avoid bugs. To backup your apps, you can use Titanium Backup from the market, it's the most popular one. For contacts, there is an option to export them in the SD card (and/or SIM card) and import them back after you change ROMs. Search the market for message backup-ers (Is that even a word????) so you don't loose them too. That's pretty much it.

Im updating from Froyobread to GingerDX,does that count as an "update"
i dont really care for the contacts , i have them on another sim,
but i have most of my apps on sd,they will get deleted right?
i will use titanium backup program to backup them, then flash gingerdx,
thats an update aight?
Thanks
No that's not an update. Update is like going from FB v021 to FB v022
You are changing ROMs so, yes, backup your apps with TBackup and re-transfer them to the SD card.
And please press the Thanks button instead of saying it
Use Titanium Backup or similir to save your apps+settings.
Export contact or just sync it to Google.
Then after you load new rom you just restore all.
You can always try NOT do full-wipe, but it can not work (I got boot loop).

Hi all,
I am currently using Webstar's Ultimate ROM v7.2 but have decided to switch to Darky's latest.
I plan to do a full wipe during the installation.
I have downloaded titanium backup from the Market, and paid for the full version. But I don’t know how to use it!
I’ve just told it to do a batch backup of all user apps and data.
When I install the wipe ROM I will of course be wanting to restore EVERYTHING.
Will titanium be able to do this? Will it restore all my apps/ games/ games scores [angry birds/ grave defence Etc]?
Will it restore all my SMS/ Emails?
Will it restore my desktop wallpaper/ widgets/ launcher pro settings?
Finally when I come to do the restore, do I select the RUN – restore missing apps + all system data?
Thank you all in advance
Matt
Sometimes i have noticed that if you backup system data and restore it on another rom it can cause some issues (FC's Unresponsiveness, Apps not working) so its always best to do a wipe version... you can backup Apps + App data but i never backup system data if im moving ROM. but thats upto you...
and as for your sms/ wallpapers/ homescreen arrangement it will not save them.. but some launchers have the option to backup the homescreen so check that first... anything on your internal sd card. back up to your PC.

I agree with azzledazzle.
Use titanium backup to restore your apps and save data but i would use it for much else than that.
When you wipe your phone it will ask you to input your email account anyway on the first boot up So all your email will be back,
You will lose your sms though...
If you use gmail sync all your contact to your gmail account so they will all be put back on your phone autimatically on the first boot.
Hope that helps a bit.

+1 this is the best method. your emails will stay intact, as for a few sms there not worth keeping (unless they are dirty sms from a dirty woman) lol
So I made backup to my Sd card with MyBackupPro.
It havent save the default programs, that have been pre-installed to my SGS.
If i ll flash, will i lose the apps like market, and theese stuff?

Attention!!!
If you use Titanium Backup dont do a mass restore (all file at once) while it dont will put it onto SD card! the apps and the phone memory will be full and some error etc.
restor oance a time the apps. and move it manualy to SD card.

No its no necessary..it'l b a lengthy process so do some apps at once like 20.. no error ever occured to me..
in titanium backup setting there is a option which let you choose if you want to install apps in sdcard, phone memory or android way
choose android way then TB will install some apps in phone memory and some apps in sdcard so need to restore app individually
also TB is better than nandroid backup and never ever restore system data with TB
use titanium backup (i recommend pro version)to backup all user apps...then u flash new rom.....then u run restore missing apps with data...not anything else...
I tried yesterday to restore 30 apps from batch and fail.
Apps was backuped form stock rom.
TB dosent remember to restore the apps here it was? exemple cut the rope is sd up but puts it on phone?
I'am refering that what should be on sd to restor to sd what no no.
I use Titanium Backup Pro. Restore and run batch until notify Batch verification finished 0 error found. But not found restore files anywhere. Does I missing some step?
I always restore around 80apps at once and never had any problem..

Yes its possible.
Simply install titanium backup or Mybackup application from the market. The pro versions are better at a small fee
Then from the current ROM back up all the apps you want. this back up is stored in the SD card and so wount be affected by Flashing a custom ROM.
Now flash the desired ROM and again install either of the applications you used to backup the apps from the market. i.e if you used titanium backup to back up your apps, then install titanium back up from the market.
then select restore option to restore your applications!
Hope this helps.
yeah, try Titanium Backup.
Tqvm for suggestion. Then, what is different compare to CWM backup? Which better?

I tried restoring when I went from Blazer ROM to CM10 but it just gave me errors and force closes. Is there a specific way in TB to restore in a different ROM or do you basically have to start off with a clean slate?
Hi guys.
I want to try a custom rom.
When i had my legend i used to flash it without backup, i had my stock andoid and besides that i didn't have any apps that needed backup, i only wanted to keep my files (photos/music).
Now, on my note, i have a lot more.
I want to make a total backup, including all of the progress in my games, my whatsapp history and such.
Does a cwm backup do all this? I mean i haven't moved any of my apps to my sdcard, but i can imagine it has some system things on there?
Because i also want to do a full whipe, at the moment i dont know what files are being used and wich not (both internal and sd card storage)
Also, i want a way to copy all of my apps (including whatsapp history and game progress) to my new rom. Will something like titanium backup do trick?
And a final question, when rooting with exploit method (link) it doen't install an other kernel. I've read it isn't save to whipe on stock kernel. I also know with every rom there is an built-in kernel. But, if i'm right i have to whipe before installing the rom. Do i have to install an save kernel for the whiping? And wich kernel would you guys reccomend?
Thanx
First of all its good that you have read that it's not safe to wipe on stock ics kernel.
You have not told us your current rom. If you are rooted install, philz or hydracore kernel which is safe. Yes you will need to wipe before flashing a different rom. And a backup made in CWM will backup everything. And TB can be used to restore data of user apps likes games and all. But it does not do a good job restoring system apps like contacts and messages logs etc. Use super backup for that.
change a new Rom with the best performance means:
full wipe (cashe,data,preload,system)
also not restore app (at least app data) from titanium backup.
so, install all app again and make setup for all
guys, how do you this? I have already xxlsz a mounth installed, everything is working, but I know, new rom could be better.
otherwise I am tired of restoring...
sometimes I am thinking I could be happy with a iphone so simply

Have you been downloading all of your apps every time you flash a new ROM ?
You can restore user apps and data.
Just don't restore any system app/data
Got it?
for me the RomCustomizer by ficeto is great app for restoring, backuping, uninstalling apps, and I never restore any data. If the app which I use have option to save/restore settings I do that (and this kind of data is usualy saved on internal sd) same thing is for gps navigation programs (maps are always saved on internal sd)
so after flashing new rom, first thing is installing rom customzer, then restoring user and also some system apps (I do backup of some system apps which is updated, it saves my time from updating via playstore)
and thats it, new rom is set up in about 30min
this way I dont have any problems with any rom and any app I used
hope it helped to someone
till now I just have restored some user app+data from titanium, some download again from market. never restore system app or data.
once I have deleted my internal card and download all app again cuz some people had problem with performance of that rom and this want recommend. also I wanted a bit clean my phone.
ok, now I am confuse. it's safe restore user data or better just save data if the app has this in option and then restore?
thanks guys.

Both are safe. The latter method requires you to individually restore data while in the former you can batch restore data. Which one you want to use is up to you.
so for the best performance of a new ROM is NOT nesesary format internal card and NOT restore app+data ?
Make ROM CUSTOMIZER backup of app with or without data? (I didnt find this option like in Titanium Backup).
