In a terse exchange with the New York Times, Melinda Gates, wife of billionaire tech playboy William Gates, says she's all but banned Apple products from the Garden of Eden—er, her household.
It's a show of solidarity with her husband, the former head of Microsoft, who famously banned all Apple products from his company's campus when he presided there in his spartan Microsoft Office-equipped office back in 2005.
Business Insider has graciously excerpted the Apple-related answers from the interview, all of which are short enough to feel right at home in a Twitter feed:

I feel sorry for my neice, her dad's an apple fanboy so she'll never get to experience decent equipment unless she comes to visit me.

Well i wouldn't say they were missing out because, i dont have anything apple in my house. Iam happy with google and microsoft.

I do the same thing though... no one is allowed to borrow or sync music with my computers unless they have a Zune or something besides an ipod. I don't help my friends with macbooks, iphones or any other apple products they have. They made fun of me when I got a zune so they can rot in hell! haha

Yeah, so we're having a son in about 3 weeks and I agree with this style of parenting.
No Apple products in my household.
I'm not raising a family that buys easy at an overpriced rate rather than works to learn easy, gaining essential knowledge on the way.
Stupid people spending stupid money is why we just had this recession in the first place.
No gimmicks in this house.
No tyrants either.

From what I have heard on some news sites on the internet, Steve jobs only has weeks to live. It is about his cancer which is eventualy killing him. I don't like him at all but if it is true, I do find it sad to hear. I would never wish this on anyone.

Heck, the off-topic Mafia's Cook has no problem with this topic, so what's the big deal? It is semi-relevant, because love him or hate him, he started the REAL touchscreen trend. I'd imagine that Android would be using full physical keypads instead of touchscreen if it wasn't for iPhail, despite the general opinion of its usefulness.
Anyway, the rumour that Mr Jobs is dying is unconfirmable, as the original source is National Enquirer, which is a tabloid magazine. And the doctor who said he's dying based his opinion on pictures of Steve Jobs. Pictures.
Make of it what you will.

There's all kinds of wild speculation flying around out there right now. The list of people who actually know what's the case is likely very small.
What really gets me though is the sheer hatred and malicious ill-wishing I've seen going on out there about Mr. Jobs. I think there a lot of jealous, personally insecure folk out there, and that's actually pretty sad. I mean, by way of example, I hate Microsoft and strongly dislike the attitude and actions of Bill Gates, but you won't find me wishing death upon the man, or anything of the sort on his family or friends.
It's clear that we have a lot of dangerous, irrational people out there, and this makes me sad.

I have been keeping an eye on news sites and stuff now for 48hrs and I still not convinced. If Steve was really going to die, I think it would be all over the news by now.
Although, that being said, he is a very ill man and if he were to pass away soon I would not be surprised.
Personally i don't like apple and I don't like Steve jobs like I said at the beginning of this thread but he still is a human being and I hope it is not true.

It's probably a rumor unless you believe that 2 "prominent" cancer doctors saying that Steve Jobs has weeks left to live by, if you can believe it,
looking at photos of his ass from his jeans.

I'm just curious as to how good Android would have been without the iPhone as a big fat target to shoot for. Apple would be no where near as influential or profitable, imho, without Jobs at the helm. Granted, he may piss on his customers opinions, i.e. antennagate, yer holdin' it wrong!, but the fact remains that if Apple wasn't pushing out quality products the whole community would be lesser for it.

Because rather than win back market share by improving their product, they've chosen to stiffle competition by using lawyers.
My question would be "how could you have any respect for apple in the first place?" considering what an awful company they are and how badly they treat their customers (as a company, not as customer facing staff).
In 1994 Steve Jobs closed down all philanthropic activities at apple to save money. Now they have "more money than the US gov" those activities still haven't been restarted.
People slate Bill Gates and microsoft, but they forget the Gates foundation gives more money to help aids victims in the developing world than the rest of the world combined.

Yup. He might be a pr1ck when it comes to business, but he pr1cks around well.
Steve Jobs used his money and resources to save his own life, and only AFTER experiencing the hell that was cancer did he even have the inkling to give a little to the community.
Gates, for all the evil that he started in Micro$oft, is planning to give away HALF of his worth. He's pushing for education and technology that will change the world, and I am almost ready to forgive him, and then somebody pointed out Windows Vista.
ADDENDUM: ROTFL, OT is really OT, I forgot to even mention the OP in my first post!

Quite the opposite, i reckon they're still not used enough. Of course it's become easier to do online but people are still reserved and reticent to be polite to strangers. Natural reaction i guess. Perhaps the fact that people are being polite online may carry over to real life eventually?
Personally i've always found myself being awkward in real life social situations and heartfelt stuff just makes it worse. Gotta be drunk for that stuff! No such problem saying Thanks, please, sorry etc on here though.

The ones here are 4 (boy) and 5 (girl) and boy does she think she's the boss! My landlord is the most patient people person i've ever known, and is far too kind to be a disciplinarian, (he took me in after all), but she takes every advantage of the fact.

Apple will be fine. Tim Cook is an outstanding CEO. And is the only one who could replace the amazing Steve Jobs. Currently the Apple stock is doing good, even though a great man left us.
