So you guys have had the HD7 for a while now. I know it has bugs at the moment. Its to be expected as the OS is still new.
But would you buy it if you knew what you knew now?
Yes, most certainly. Loving WP7 completely. In terms of hardware, the size of the screen is the deal maker for me. But a surprisingly nice addition is the kick stand, which is both effective, useful and invokes an 'oooh that's cool' from people I show the phone to.
I did buy it, then I returned it.
And got an Omnia 7.

Absolutley I would, yes, there are are few niggles but this is version 1 of the software and a brand new device FFS. Apple are STILL having problems withe the iphone 4 even now (alarms cannot deal with move to GMT from BST for example). With WP7 you are buying into one of the most promising new mobile phone OS's of recent times IMHO, with the HD7 in particular, you are getting a cool big screen device from a company that has built up a good name for itself in the industry. I currently own the HTC Desire and the HTC HD7. I will be keeping the Desire only until the Kindle app and HTML5/ Flash land for WP7, then that will go on Ebay.
My only fear is that because MS decided to launch without one or two features (Flash/ CutnPaste and turn by turn Nav) it will get hammered by the critics in the tech press and be stillborn. This would be a tragedy - the more competition there is in the smartphone space the better for the consumer.
I also hope the handset manufacturers give it the attention it deserves, recent reports on build quality issues with the HTC Trophy do not bode well

Ive had mine a day and love it. Was running andoird on my HD2 previously and loved that. But I love the HD7 more. Ye the app market isnt as large as the other major two OS but I can live with that and times will change.
I had an iphone last year and once you get over the intiial hysteria of having millions of useless apps to download and amuse yourself with its not so important.
Ive not had any bugs with the HD7 yet. What issues have people come across.
My only gripe is that Im stuck with crappy Vodafone until 2012

Sure, I loved it in the first 2 days but these 4 main reasons cropped up:
1. The phone would crash/lockup, it did this about 6 times in the week I had it.
2.The hard buttons (on/off, volume, camera) had NO click to them, they were completely soft, so I ended up pressing them all the time by accident, I launched the camera so many times when just holding the phone.
3.The case I was sold with it from the O2 store actually marked the back of it. ( a Leather one with a strap you pull to get it out, don't buy it)
4. I had huge doubts about the overall quality of the device, I really really don't think it would last for 18 months.
I understand 1 (possibly) and 3 were not the fault of the actual device but after issues 2 and 4 cropped up I just decided to return it and got a Omnia 7 instead.
So far for me the Omnia 7 is much better, seems much more higher build quality and its made from metal, the buttons have a nice satisfying click to them, and the screen is just gorgeous, aswell as it being much faster at loading apps and games.
The only reason I took the HD7 over the Omnia 7 in the first place was the double storage but that's not worth the trade off for me.

Having bought an iPhone when they first came out and then giving it to one of our engineers within a week (he thought all his birthdays had come at once!) as deemed useless for true functionality compared with WM6. And then enjoyed my Touch HD I was in eager anticipation of the HD7.

I have been using email on my mobiles for years and have to say that the HD7 is by far the most brilliant device for actually 'doing business' on the move - big & bright and cool to use
Edit: Forgot to mention - the Office Hub is a 'killer': Was at a presentation yesterday with 2min before I stood up and realised I needed info from a spreadsheet which I thought was on my HD7 (but wasn't) - it took me 30secs to get it! - try doing that with an Android or iPhone...

The only issue I have so far is the battery life but I've only done a couple of charges so hopefully that will improve.
It's early days for me but at the moment I am happier than I thought I would be. I'm trying Zune pass at the moment and really liking it. Maybe I didn't need the 16GB after all.
I though about the Omnia 7 but didn't want another 18/24 month contract and the PAYG prices being thrown around were a lot more expensive. Plus, I couldn't actually find anyone selling it on PAYG!
Had it for a bit now, had a few bugs happen, but I would not change it for any other phone out there.
Omnia 7 is a 100% no go for me because of the 8gb memory, I only have about 500meg left on my HD7 and will be ugrading to 32gb asap.
Im still not convinced in AMOLED screens, the colours never look right to me and the edges arnt smooth (looking at my sisters and aunts desires) The look stunning, but they dont look real if that makes sence? I would have loved to have an SLCD in it though. But to be honest the HD7 screen looks fantastic because I have the backlight on 100% all the time.
Battery life isnt that bad, it could be better, but it IS better than my HD2's was.
Biggest niggle is bluetooth audio streaming of music doesnt seem to be as high as quality as my HD2s theres everso slight distortion on high notes. Not that noticable, but enough to niggle me.
Once the updates start to roll out its going to be an incredible device.
Im wondering if an update will be rolled out when the US launch happens? why else would it be delayed? or at least im hoping the promised 60 xbox live that were supposed to be available at launch will be availble at the american launch.
Overall best phone I have ever used, the user experiance is fantastic, its just so nice to use every day, and that completely overruls any niggles I have had, which no doubt will be sorted very soon.
Had mine unlocked for 24h now and just learning the OS but what i'm seeing is fantastic! I've come from a HD2 where as soon as i got it i flashed a custom rom then ran adroid on it for ages but now i could never go back even after 24h!!!
there are a few niggles, coming from android where you had settings for everything there does seem to be a real lack of options just the basics to to get you through, i also cant see how to add a picture to a contact who isnt on my facebook?????
i agree with whats been posted before, this OS has the potential to be the best one out there it just needs to grow.
I've had mine for 2 weeks now and love it! Yes some things are missing and there are a few bugs in the OS, but I'm willing to persiverre because what it does give it does really well.
I had an HD2 with Energy's custome roms for a year now and I am so over HTC Sense (I used earlier versions on my Diamond and Orbit too)and now the "new" HTC apps looks very dated amongst the WP7 Metro apps.
Email, something I could not really get working very well on my HD2, runs like a dream on WP7 and I'm turning into a sick email junkie (help!).
As for the screen, everyone keeps knocking this phone in favour of the Samsung, but in reality, the screen on the HD7 is better than the HD2 and can hold it's own. Might not look as good next to a Samsung, but who cares? Are you going to hold an HD7 and Samsung next to each other 24/7? No? Then you won't notice the difference.
Is the email better on the WP7 than Android. The email on Android drove me up the wall with its bugs and weird behaviour. I have seen a few people on this thread mention positively the email so I am hopeful.
Yes, without a doubt, sure it has a few bugs that Microsoft can fix, but these will not stop me loving this device, never going back to an iPhone again, I'll be sticking to Windows Phone or Android devices from here on in, I had the 3GS then the iPhone 4 and now it's on Ebay as I got bored with it

You can pinch and zoom with HTML email which is fantastically useful, and keeps the email as the sender intended. From my understanding (Neowin WP7 vs Android Communication Comparison) Android doesn't do this.

The main problems I had with Android was that I often had issues setting up POP email accounts on it. Also could behave oddly when picking up messages, I used to get phantom messages or it would not pick them up correctly or in some cases at all.
oh yes i would, though tbh i would of sold my fish tank and got it on payg and unlocked it as o2 contract prices are so steep and the coverage i not as good as tmobile (not sure if this is the same everywhere but around where i live its the case). I will be honest if it wasn't for the fact all other devices are only 8gb i would not have gone for the hd7 but rather the omnia but there is no way i can live with 8gb. The only annoying thing is that when i'm playing games i sometimes touch the search button esp if i have the phone plugged in at the time due to the way i then have to hold it, but if you press back it goes right back to where you left off.
in conclusion it was not my phone of choice but my hand was forced by the internal storage but i am glad it was, the omnia is no better and my second choice mozart seems cheap and to smiler to my old desire. I love the size of the phone i was worried when i first saw it but the shape is like nothing i have ever seen and make it slip into the pocket easier then my old desire and yet i get all that screen.

I say wait and see if Microsoft takes actions against these HD2 users... Though, I have to say my HD7 feels nicer in my hand than my HD2 did, love both devices though
If you have the disposable income or want to sell your HD2 I would say go for it. I kept my HD2. I love the possibilities that come from it and the potential that still awaits it. Currently it is bringing joy into my wife's life while I'm using the HD7.
I do think the hardware is slightly improved on the HD7: kickstand, screen, capacative buttons, and general appearance is "classier." But the HD2 will always be the hacker / tinkerer's dream phone.
Its all personal preference, but I personally have 0 regrets from adding the HD7 into my starting lineup.
The kick stand is surprisingly a lot more useful than I anticipated. Having a 10 hour flight in a few days so I look foward to using it even more.
If you can afford an hd7 (its pretty cheap for a smart phone) id go for it.
I'd keep your hd2 so you can run android on it. I'm pipe dreaming I can load android on the hd7 one day.

The capacitive soft keys are great EXCEPT... they are extremely easy to press accidentally. Countless times I've been watching a movie or playing a game and hit one of the buttons. It's fairly annoying.
I have a Samsung Vibrant that I am tired of, and I would like to know if you would truly recommend this phone?
I want to know a few things.
1. Is there any lag?
2. How is the GPS, is it like the GPS on Android?
3. Does every game cost money or are there some good free ones?
4. What would you rate the Battery life?
The disadvantage is mainly the battery, but fortunately some rom updates fix it just a little, but you still need daily charging.
There's virtually no lag in apps or in system.
GPS is fine, but there is a lack of full-scale nav apps. but you have free apps that are nearly as good
most good games cost something but yes there are good free ones too. also most paid ones offer a trial version or free with ads. either way gaming is actually great on wp7
if you get the phone for free/cheap on contract or however you will, i recommend you do so. but of course you can always wait a little longer and get upcoming ones, though i would absolutely recommend you get a wp7 phone

1. I love the Big Screen for browsing
2. Facebook and Twitter apps are as good as Android ( but FB dosen't have chat yet)
3. GPS is good but still no navigation for Maps
4. I love the Email intergration simply brilliant ( yahoo, gmail, live mail ) you can have em all
5. Good for Music Sync and Game play
6. Within 5 sec you can shoot a photo and upload it to face book with camera button and share facility
7. can wipe / detect phone through Live Services for free if lost
Only niggles I have is
It does need a really good update which is coming one just this month and one big one later on
I have had problem with apps getting stuck and you have to reboot phone all the time
( although I guess its an app problem)
Camera is not the best but is ok but there are better out there
and Yeah the ringtone sound is really rubbish. you can hardly hear them and there is no facility to put custom ringtone yet
But videos and music are fine..

I'd like to chime in that there are 100 stock ringtones and I hear them all just fine. I understand that this is a common complaint, and people point to software issues, but I think half of it is not realizing what your ringer volume is. I've seen people say it's "all the way up to 10" not realizing that's the in-call volume. 30 is the ringer volume.
Maybe I'm just lucky. My ringer is fine.

No - The lack of apps compared to the Android is just crazy.
There is extremely limited options for customization.
As far as performance, it is quite fast.
I had all 3 so far, Vibrant, HD7 and now a HD2.
The HD7 is cool in it's own way. But, the aftermarket software is just not there - Yet.
I still recommend the HD2 to anyone, but it is personal preferance. The HD2 is full of issues just like the other 2.
...you're comparing android apps, which have been out 2+ years, with wp7 apps, which has been out a couple months...?
Wait for more months as more fart apps are to come. then, it will level android and ios market.
I know one app that wp7 has that both android and IOS wants real bad.... Netflix !

I can say with out a doubt that for me leaving my samsung captivate JUNK (and android since G1) I couldnt be happier. I left windows for android because well i didnt like all the lag and crap. I just got this HD7 friday morning fugured i would give it a try and boy howdy im in love lol. Windows did do a great job compared to older versions and yes they still need some updates but its a new OS. If you get this phone you will be happy for there really is no lag. if apps is a biggy for you just know they are on there way just give it some time.
You will notice a difference in screen quality. Although I prefer the larger screen of the HD7/HD2, the Vibrant looks much nicer in terms of color and motion. Otherwise I'd pretty much agree with the other comments above.
Build quality is questionable, but so is the Vibrant's IMO.

Been thinking about getting a hd7 for a while, went into o2 today, compared my hd2 with it and I was amazed just how plasticy ****e the hd7 is, volume buttons felt awful weak, the test phone in the shop was scratched on the bezel. Couldn't test the screen, but guess this is the same as the hd2.
Starting to have second thoughts about getting one now, how are your hd7's holding up?

Lol mine is in the shop...it came with an impossible to press camera button.
Kind of regretting swapping my HD2, but I needed a fully functional, guaranteed OS (other than WinMo 6.5), so I went with WP7. (I'm not saying the ROMs are bad, but I need guaranteed stability at the moment)
I paid about $250 for the HD7...so basically $50 after swapping the HD2. I definitely wouldn't recommend spending much more...not that great of an upgrade.
if you want something to work for you as a phone right out of the box this is what u want....
if you want to customize every single thing then not..
i have been using it for past 5 months now and no regrets.. do not lag, very smooth, great GUI... only dont like the battery drain but its 4.3 inch screen...

HD2 is a step up in build quality. Metal battery cover, no loose volume rockers..
Having had my HD7 for about 4 months now, I have zero scratches on it. All buttons function normally. Screen looks great. Even nothing wrong with the plastic battery cover (which I've found more and more HTC's use (EVO))
So to whereas the build quality is less than that of an HD2, it's fine. I have no protection of any type on mine, and slide it in and out of pockets every day, even jeans. I'm careful that these pockets are clean though.
Yep! Take the plunge! The HD7 is a beast.
I came from a Touch Pro2 and, before that, Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. I love the new OS compared to Windows Mobile 6.5 although custom ROMs was an addicting trend.
I listen to music a lot and the phone sounds great to me, and even better after downloading Sound Enhancer. The Zune backgrounds are nice! The album art and font are big. It's a breeze to search music, too! You can open YouTube, Slacker, TuneIn and other apps from Zune.
Battery life was a problem but I turned off some features to increase life. Plus I got that new radio ROM from Ansar. I noticed a difference there, too. I hope NoDo helps out some.
People talk about apps all the time. Android has more apps (true!) but my friends say they never use a third of the apps there. The number is there for bragging rights, I guess. On iPhone, you have an XBox Live app. Hell, Xbox Live is part of your phone! No need to download a Facebook app when Facebook integration comes with the phone. Myspace, too. There's a Twitter integration forthcoming even.
Windows Live account is the new equivalent to Windows Mobile Device Center. All your contacts, uploaded photos, and Office documents are saved there. You can login to all your email accounts in one spot. It's just convenient.
Lastly, the screen......beautiful and, not to mention, huge! Again, AMOLED and Super LCD screens are for bragging rights. I watch music videos and NETFLIX on the phone and they look great. Surf with no problem.

and say that I really liked WP7

1. Is the gunmetal/chrome/shiny band around the device metal? It looks like the plastic on my galaxy s in the pictures, but a bunch of reviewers have said that it's metal.

My first suggestion is to make sure if any the feature currently missing from WP& matter to you such as the MMS Video feature. IMHO, WP7 is the best cell OS I've used. It's very fast & does what it can do very well. GPS is much faster than it was on my old TP2. Been a while since I played with Android to compare the GPS on it. What I mean is it locates you very fast. On my TP2, it'd take a few mins just to find a satellite. Keep in mind in order to get GPS, I had to unlock my device & load a patched Navigon Select XAP & load my maps for the USA. As for the hardware, it is very nice IMO. The only metal on it though is the kick stand & a small piece on the back below the battery door.
I plan on keeping my galaxy s until I've made a decision. I can sell one or the other. (My friend offered me his HD7 for $200 which seems like a good price judging by what I'm seeing on ebay and craigslist)
From what I can tell, it has everything that I need.
Another question that I'd like to add is how is wifi support on the os? I currently have no data plan and run only on wifi. This has worked well for me as my school has free wifi in most places.
WiFi works great for me & doesn't seem to effect battery life as badly as it did on my old TP2. I keep it on WiFi when ever I'm at home.

WP7 is very solid, but it's not as developed as Android. As the above post suggests, you should review the feature-set and make sure there aren't any critical absences.
I don't quite agree on the build quality. Having used an iPhone 3G, a Nexus One, and an HD2, the HD7 falls short IMO. It has an attractive design, no doubt, but the materials/execution feel somewhat cheap in comparison. My HD7 for example has a rattly battery door and originally had terrible buttons. HTC fixed the camera button, but the other three are a bit squishy feeling. If you buy the phone, make sure you check the buttons!
$200 is a pretty solid price IMO. I bought one with the button quality problems (mint otherwise) for $250, and I thought that was a really good price.
Having said all that, I'm not sure if it's your best bet with regard to the Wifi. As far as I know (and I could be TOTALLY wrong), the Wifi shuts off when the screen turns off, and there is no way to change this behavior. Don't think you'll get notifications with no data plan. I recently switched from a Vibrant (and I also don't have a data plan), and it was/is somewhat of a problem. Again though, there might be a way to control the Wifi standby.

Wait, that chrome on the sides is plastic covered with paint? It feels much more solid that the plastic bezel on the Vibrant though.
i've had 6 android devices in the past and i traded my android for the HD7 and i am very pleased with that decision.
Wp7 is so fast and smooth! its just beautiful and i love the metro ui. my mom has the galaxy s 4g and android just feels so stale and dated compared to how beautiful and smooth wp7 is. yea its not as developed but the things this phone does is genius! people, photos, music & video hubs are all genius and has nice things that i would truly miss if i ever switched to another OS. you find lil things that you think are genius lol. like for me ima HUGE picture freak and the fact i can go directly into picture taking while the screen is off is genius for me plus the camera software is the easiest i have used plus its fast.
wp7 is the most original os and i love it! i dont have to worry about force closes or downloaded utilities too keep my phone running at peak performance. the type of apps i dowloaded on android are completely different now. i download fun stuff and not utilities. i was a power user with android flashing the latest roms and re setting up my phone every week or so and now i dont have to worry about that.
your gmail account syncs flawless with wp7 as if its a android phone lol, and im talking contacts, calender, and email and top it all off its push email!
the data on the works fast. i had the g2 and mytouch 4g but things seem to load faster on the HD7.
i really like the OS an im very satisfied with it! i cant wait to see whats in store for the future on the OS. people truly dont give it enough credit
Long story short..
Have a T-mo HD2 with android, overall satisfied other than lack of a keyboard. Last week, leaving work, someone's unattended child bumped my arm and knocked my phone out of my had. Making it fall on to the asphault screen first, cracking the screen. Overall, still functions and thankfully I had a screen protector on it.
Right now I am using my backup TytnII.
I have insurance on the phone, have started the claim but they want 130$ and since the HD2 is no longer in production the phoned they are offering is a T-mo HD7.
SO my question is it worth it? for the phone? Resale, and get something else? What is the phone worth if I choose to sell it? Any/all constructive input appreciated. Thanks.
Fix your HD2 or get them to buy you a refurbished one HD7 is not worth it, made move from HD2 to 7 and regretted it since. HD2 can run WP7 if you want.

As for HD2 being better than HD7, no way... I had WP7 on HD2 and most was fine but web browsing was tedious with no proper screen drivers... The HD7 is much better than HD2 the HD2 overheated a lot, the HD7 never overheats... And the HD2 got a distorted part of the screen, I imagine from the overheating...
If you don't like WP7 the get the HD7 and sell it for a desire...

The HD2 with WM6.5 Pro was decent. HD2 with android was very decent. Was my first non-physical keyboard phone, mostly because it was cheap. Thought about trying out WP7 on the HD2, but do not have as much time as I used to anymore.
The idea of getting the phone and selling it sounds like a good idea.
I have bids on a few phones on ebay right now, have some time left so not holding my breath.
If I can get something more towards what I really do want then I will figure out what to do with the HD2, whether be selling it, using til it breaks, or attempting to fix it myself.
Have only used one, but as far as devices out now, the G2 seems to be the best suited for what I want. I am not set on Android, but physical keyboard and 4g speeds not sure there is anything better for the time being.
If you want WP7 get the HD7 (bad battery life though ) or even better get the Nokia Lumia
Otherwise Just stick with your HD2 as I have seen it got ported with Android Icecream Sandwich
If you don't dual-boot your HD2 then go with the HD7. Pick up the 1350mah Anker battery and the battery life problem will be solved. WP7 on the HD7 is great. The phone feels quality too.
If you run android on the HD2, I would still get the HD7 and either sell or trade it.
Sorry my HD2 never overheated, did not have dostorted screen as well. It was perfect much better built then HD7. HD2 felt like a solid brick and it proved itself as such. The same usage of HD7 over barely a year (had HD2 for 2 years) makes is squick, screen moves in corners, headphone socket is loose and ready to go, power button is collapsing and using that touch screen in light rain proves almost impossible unlike on HD2. BTW my HD2 was also through that time a GPS on a motorcycle so if it was raining it was operating in extreme moisture. HD7 goes crazy in same conditions and everything clicks on screen, you dim the screen and it comes on, music stops and starts many problems. Today in light rain I could not listen to music as screen was coming on and slightly moist pocket was making everything click.
Also HD2 is identical to HD7 in spec in more then 90%. Same CPU, US HD2 had more memory, same GPU, same screen size and I actually believe same screen.
Seen WP7 running on HD2 and did not see almost any performance differences. The one's that were there were mostly due to very slow SD card used in HD2.
I live in UK and had screen fixed in one of the shops on Tottenham Court Road.

The HD2 build is definitely better, but I'd prefer an HD7 since it's actually made to run WP7.
Dual booting is neat, but I'd rather have a device that runs one OS very well than two with serious problems. I love the HD2, but I'd never consider it reliable enough to be a daily driver.

For me HD7 was a mistake, build quality is bad, it adds nothing over HD2 and I for one will be happy to pass it on O am afraid it will be 50GBP at best.
Next for me is Titan or move to Android as all WP7 phones feels cheap.

Sold my hd2:-( got an hd7 liked it hated it sold it. Back cover keept falling off and its a lil big in my pocket (bad if u bmx) but other then that I did kinda like wp7 really snappy and quick

I've had my HD7 for the same amount of time as I did my HD2 and the HD7 is flawless... The HD2 in the same time showed many more scars and screen problems...
As for back cover, I quite like the flimsy plastic for a couple of reason... Getting it on and off is simple and replacing it is under $10 on ebay...
As for the HD7 adding nothing to the HD2... Well, a pinch to zoom that works properly and the kickstand were the winners for me...
OP should take an HD7 for a spin... Our opinions are opinionated...

Whew, I am just glad it wasn't your own fault for your phone breaking. Stupid unattended children.
For now I'd ask for an Android option. My HD7 is unusable with the disappearing keyboard fault that Microsoft has ignored for MONTHS. Steer clear!!

I just got the HD7 recently from my organization, I am using it over my SGS 2. Probably because it's fresh, but I like the system in general, although I deplore lack of some standard apps I use in Android. I don't feel the need to tweak that, change this, flash here and there. In terms of hardware and built, it does not compary to SGS2, but it's a good phone as far as the system and usability goes.

Pinch to zoom another useless gimmick that apple will sue HTC or MS for. How is it any better/quicker then double tapping a screen in old Opera for WM6.5?

Update, I found a great deal on a T-mo HTC G2/Desire Z with accessories. So, at least for now WP7 is not in my future.
